It is nice to see someone younger quilt. I can't say if I have seen anyone under 50 or possibly 60 at a large quilt guild I attend. But it is a VERY busy Guild with many events, workshops, retreats, show and tell, etc.
Yes!! I was a quilter in my 20’s, strange for sure none of my friends even knew how to sew lol, I was a granny before my time now I’m a real granny and just getting back into quilting again ❤
That was the goal! I think it’s important for teachers to be transparent and not act like they know everything and never make mistakes lol that’s just silly! So glad you liked the tutorial, Morgan! Thanks so much for watching💖
Thank you, I learned a lot from this. Some times i use garden gloves with dots, some of the time i use body scrubbers from the dollar store. They have soft silicone bristles with suction cup handles that fit between the fingers of my hands. They're cool for my hands, and grip gently, and a good price 😉
I'm so glad that you showed how to do this in "real time", that you took your time and didn't rush or speed the film up. I think that when people do that, they give the impression that it's quicker than it really is. I appreciate that you took the time to take the time to film this. Thank you, Miriam.
That's BEAUTIFUL!! I love spiral quilting... I've done several spiral quilts, but I've always used my walking foot for the entire thing. You way, doing free motion first, is how I plan to do my next.
Wow, it was so exciting to see your spiral quilting come to life!!! Congratulations on successfully realising your vision, especially after the rocky start. Your persistence was inspirational ❤
Stitch obsessed , I think I am now Miriam obsessed! You are smart, fearless and a natural communicator. You are totally unafraid of giving it a go. I look forward to seeing more content from you.
You’re spirals will be a game changer for me! I love it and it looks fabulous. I was very happy to see another Coats & Clark quilter exists. I thought it was only me. Now, I don’t have to hide it. I can be loud & proud about it! I mostly use variegated because it’s so beautiful. I can’t wait to do the spirals that way. Thank you for this video.
Oh yeah there’s lots of us closeted coats and Clark quilters 😂😂 I’m trying to be an vocal as I can be about it, because I genuinely love their thread and really dislike the snobbery surrounding thread 🧵 🤦🏻♀️
I also love those 1200 yard coats and clark spools of thread. The variegated are lovely. I find them on sale and grab neutrals and a a pretty variegated when able.
The quilt looks so good. I love the spirals. Love how the intertwining of the spirals makes a pattern of diamonds. Your videoing is excellent. When you zoom in on the quilt you can definitely see all the detail. Your lighting is good too. No dark areas during the video. I learned so much from the glueing the sandwich and sewing the spirals. Thanks for your teaching ability.
Your quilt is totally fabulous - I love the spiral quilting because it's such a great contrast to the squareness of your design. A good result altogether. I shall try this technique. Thanks so much.
That is a gorgeous quilt! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I am not comfortable at all about free motion quilting and appreciated your commentary. Thanks alot!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching! 💖 FMQ definitely takes practice, but it’s a lot of fun and very rewarding when you get a project completed! 🥰
I'm not very imaginitive or creative, and it never occurred to me that quilting could be done with mega-spirals. Yours are AWESOME!!! Thank you for sharing your creativity with us all and blowing my mind a bit. Your quilt is beautiful!!!
Yeah you said the magic words “ coats & Clark” are number 1 in my book & my sewing machines! Did you know my first Kenmore will not sew any other thread but coats & Clark ! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this thread, if & when you use the correct thread ! There’s quilting thread , top thread for making buttonholes!
First time for me, too. I'm 70+ & told my hubby I just love seeing the younger quilters. I'm going to watch the 2 videos you linked, & see if it's something I think one of my granddaughters would enjoy. She's not a quilter...---YET, lol I know she'd enjoy your style, your personality. Great teacher, btw 💜 Your quilt is so awesome. Reminded me of an Irish chain. I'd enjoy doing (HAVING!) that patterned quilt 🤪 for personal reasons😢. Thx, Miriam. You're a jewel (& your Dad must be, too).
My solution to avoid moving the whole quilt is to quilt an enlarged Baptist fan design on each side resulting in overlapping the fan resulting in diamond patterns in the area they overlap. This helps to eliminate shoulder stress. This is using a walking foot so is essentially straight line quilting. Thanks for all your hints.
Miriam.....HOLY MACKERAL. SIMPLY SUPERB. You are somethin else. Just wow i can see the quilting BETTER on the front. But i love the pattern before quilting. Thats one helluva beautiful quilt and after the quilting it is STUNNING
The wind actually made it easier to see your beautiful stitching. You are talented, positive and encouraging. I am very tempted to try this on the baby quilt I am working on.
I practice by taking a page out of a coloring book and using it to sew through( with no thread) just to practice staying on a line and getting the spacing even. Curves and changes in direction mean changing pedal pressure or hand speed. I fight eye lashes on the reverse side. Let me know if you have a fix for that. I think it’s just practice on eye ,hand , and foot coordination .
Thai is the most beautiful quilting I’ve ever seen! I don’t know if I will ever try it, but you do make it look a little less scary than I expected it would be. Congratulations on designing a beautiful quilt project! You are amazing!
I love your videos. Your quilting looks wonderful. I took a free hand quilting class. My teacher stood behind me and hit me on the head and said breath. I just held my breath while stitching. Never got the hang free motion quilting, back to hand quilting or straight line quilting. Then.. My first quilt was a king size log cabin for my parents 25th wedding anniversary, next month would have been their 74th anniversary. I was in high school and wanted it to be a surprise so it was all done in my bedroom. Unlike you I tied the quilt. When my Dad passed I took my inheritance and bought a long arm with computer. I feel my folks would have wanted me enjoy finishing my quilts in a timely manner.
That is SO beautiful. You gave me an idea to do multiple overlapping cirles (like a bunch of bubbles blowing in the wind) so the larger circumference would be more easy to handle.
Your so real. You make me laugh. It's beautiful. The breeze help show it off. Congrats. Yes I would try the quilting on a table runner square. Something a bit smaller. Thanks
Fascinating watching and learning. Now I need to go back and watch your glue basting and how you and your Dad made the spirals. Trust me to start at the end😫😫👏👏👏👏👌👌❤
MIRIAM!!! That is SO COOL!!! I am writing this at the first completed big spiral. WOW!!! 🤩 The wind is helping! LOL. Yes!! It is gorgeous!! And sometimes when something goes wrong or becomes a huge challenge or undertaking, it’s good to walk away and come back fresh! 🥰. I will have to go back and rewatch you and your Dad, and how y’all came up with making the spirals! Love the barn!! ❤
Yay! Thank you so much! It turned out even better than I expected!!! And it was so much fun to work with my dad on one of my projects! 🥰 well worth the effort!
It turned out great! When the sunlight hit the quilt, you could really see the pattern. You're fun to watch. It's like sitting around having a chat. Thanks!
Love the quilting on this and might try this. I have never actually marked with a blue pen so a bit nervous but I might try on a quilt top I never had a plan for. Thanks for the inspiration.
I totally understand being nervous to mark a quilt! I only ever use the Dritz mark b gone blue ink because I KNOW it washes out lol 😂 I hope it give it a try! It’s so much fun!
Miriam, i think I have watched this video at least 10 times and i need to tell you how much i love how you quited it. I would like to try to do this. I'm going to think on this some more.😊
ooh its beautiful love the quilting and I want to try it. Still practicing on my free motion. Just found your videos and as a 60yo GiGi is makes my heart happy to see the younger generation sewing. Plus I dont feel so bad with my mistakes cause you share yours with us. Thank you so much. OO I also have only used Coats n Clarks thread, never had a problem.
This is adorable. I am currently working on some baby gifts. I finished a knitted blanket with a knitting machine that I recently bought and I am learning how to use. I finished the crib quilt and free motion quilted it. I’m still learning. But my next project is a circular play-mat. I was thinking of quilting it with stripes, but now I am thinking a spiral would be better! If I do, I will send you a picture. Thank you for the inspiration and the how to.
I like Coats & Clark as well. I've been quilting for many years, and quilting has become expensive for sure. To cut down on expense. I tried Coats & Clark years ago, and I was happily surprised! I just found your Utube site; yippee, instruction on quilting the quilt. And, I love this spiral design; I'll definitely be trying it. Many Thanks, I'm looking forward to more videos, from a crazy-loving quilter in Sacramento, Lindsay 💕
I think that's spectacular. I'd love to try that spiral affect. I have no idea what I'm doing, and all I have is an old Singer and hand sewing. But it's on my To-Do list. 😂
Fantastic job on the quilting and love the pattern of the blocks! You did such a good job on the quilt. Have to watch the video on how it was marked to figure out if I could do it. Thanks for sharing!
Love the pattern, colors, and quilting. I’ve never had a lot of confidence with free motion quilting so thanks for the tips. Makes me want to try again.
CONGRATS. The quilt pattern, quilting design, and quilting look great! Instead of people sending their quilts out for quilting, they could send to your dad for marking. (Or, my brain was envisioning your dad selling a 60" x 74" templates 😊.) I know you spray basted, but still...you constantly turned the quilt then did circles crossing the quilting in a different direction and still no puckers. I bet free motion quilting and holding your hands just right were a key. A+ on the quilting.
What a fantastic tutorial. I really love this pattern and may have to con a friend into helping with the lines. Your dad really was a rockstar helping figure out the best way to accomplish. Thank you for sharing!
Ha! I love the Coats and Clark thread! I use it for piecing as well. Super cost effective and literally no one knows what thread you used in a finished project. 👍🏻
Miriam, your quilt and quilting is absolutely beautiful! I’m so glad I found your channel! I am new to free motion and I found your video to be very encouraging! I will definitely try spiral quilting. I am going to go back and watch your marking video. Thank you!!
You had me at spiral quilting! I dont know why, but I've never seen your videos before. I have subscribed and will share with my stitching sisters. That spiral is sooooo cooolll! ❤ i cant wait to binge more of your videos!
I just happened upon your UA-cam channel and your circle quilting. I love it. Always looking for new ideas and definitely going to try this. Thank you for sharing this. Excited to try it.😊

Oh that’s a great idea! 💖💖💖
Great Idea!
Yes, I agree with you about coats and Clark thread. I have used it for years and it is still my go too thread choice. My grandmother used it also.
Yes! I’m glad I’m not alone! 👏🏻💖
I like it, but my Pfaff doesn’t like it at all. Way too linty for her.
