What your demo was is big stitch quilting. It is my favorite method, I also use the older method, but prefer BS. I also include embroidery in my BS quilts, so it scratches both itches.. Hoorah a new member of the big stitch community. Great video, thank you!

This is gonna be an EPIC creative space!

I make doll clothes and gift them along with an American Girl doll and accessories at Christmas time. Definitely wouldn’t be necessary to use designer fabric but like you said, it feels better and the quality is better. I use the designer fabric just because I want to but only gift the clothes because it is doubtful that anyone would be willing to pay the worth of the clothes. I started with quilting and bought designer fabrics because I had so much time invested; why go cheaper on the fabric?

i just spent 125h on a custom and originally quoted for 90h but left a budget line open for actual material and labor costs. thankfully the client was very encouraging to take my time and now i just gotta wait for that last invoice to be approved. bated breath and not doing it this way next time!

After several years of keeping books to aid in pricing my quilts, I finally came up with totaling cost of material, thread, batting & etc and multiplying by 3 to come up with reasonable price. Sometimes there are special things such as curved edges, hexie edges that require added effort that need to be addressed. As to quality of JoAnns fabric....there are several grades of fabric in their store, so you need to be aware of that and study carefully when shopping. I have purchased good quality fabrics there, but their "knock off" fabrics are tricky. My customers tend to choose by color and not quality. I find it is a matter of education of your craft. You are right in being up front with the budget at the onset, both theirs and yours. Thanks for your ideas and thoughts.

Several years ago, i was asked to make a kid's dress for her mom's second wedding. Mom purchased all items. Because the child was not a typical child size, i had to do a mock top and bodice. I also had to go to their place for her to try it on, on more than 1 occasion. When all was said and done, she paid me $25 for the dress. Needless to say, i don't do that anymore. People have no idea. They want everything for nothing, even after buying everything. The unfortunate things was she didn't ask me how much, nor did i specify how much. But it was a time consuming dress.

I think you mean a guillotine , that’s as near as I can think for paper cutting. Thanks for today.if you wanted a finished 3inch piece does the extra allow a 1/4 inch stitching edge. I agree with the quilting. Most of the ones to date I have done as really large ones. The longbarmnwuilter does work out expensive to be doing as well , as all the time.

When we lived in our RV, we had a building like that(12×12 with high loft roof) and we kept a lot of our goodies in, and I had a lot of my sewing crafts in it! Congratulations! You're gonna have a ball with that.❤

I used to do things like custom weaving and handspinning. One of my popular custom things was spinning yarn from a beloved pet's fur. I always asked what they expected to use it for. When someone wanted to make a sweater from their dog's combed /shed fur, I would point out that 1) animal fur is HEAVY, it does not have the hollow core like sheep's wool. 2) it was unlikely that their animal could EVER shed enough for a whole sweater. A grocery bag-full of shed fur looks like a lot but only weighs an ounce or two. To give them a realistic idea, I ask them to weigh their favorite wool sweater. I would suggest they plan a knitting project that incorporates a stripe of Fifi's fur. This would give them a satisfactory reality check without disparaging Fifi's memory.

Timeless Treasures is one of the best fabrics i have ever seen. After going with my wife diana on a shop-hop of 38 shops in North Florida, the shop in St.Augustine,Fl. Had the best selection and quality of fabrics!! It was a husband and wife operation in a small plaza in town. We are from Tampa 😊 we miss RAINBOWS END in Dunedin,Fl. The largest store we have ever been to is Hancock's of Paducah,KY. We also have the "Traveler Companion" a guide(a directory of Quilt shops across America in print!! 😊

I know that you are talking about quilts, but can this method be used for doing Christmas tree skirts, table runners, or placemats. I use spray adhesive to hold things together, and i do not necessarily like the spray they make my hoops sticky and hard to clean.
