    I’m 20 minutes in and it just keeps getting better! You’ve got a great Dad. 🤗 I love Dad technical terms like ‘swirly deals’! I love how he simplified everything! He explained it beautifully! That’s how my grandfather taught me to do this type of scaling. ❤ And to think basic measuring like this was how the Egyptians made the pyramids.

    I bet your dad could figure out how to mark out the Baptist fan quilting lines too, *hint hint.* it seems everything nowadays requires having to buy a template. You and your dad could start a series on how to quilt w/o having to buy expensive templates, I know I’d watch. Your dad’s idea on how to mark out spirals was ingenious, I could figure out what and how he was doing this and will be able to use his idea on my own quilts. Thx dad for this invaluable info. It’s obvious you and your dad have a wonderful relationship, all of us should be as lucky. ❤

      Just multiply the diameter of the dowel by 3.14 or 22/7 to get the distance between lines of the spiral. This is a dowel and a piece of string acting as an analog computer! Use paper and pencil - cheaper than fabric and marker.

    So nice to see you work calmly patiently and skillfully. I joke that if I had 3 minutes more of patience, I might have accomplished great things. The circular design is very cool as is the means to draw it. Watch out for the markers that fade before you finish a project. And see what it says about ironing in case it will set or erase the marks.

    Awww, your dad is so nice! And smart! I just might consider doing spirals for my next quilt! Just wanted to give a little hint, when you post the definition of diameter at 5 minutes, what you’re actually saying is radius. Radius is from the center to the outside. Diameter is twice that, all the way across the circle from one side to the other. It obviously did not matter though because your quilt turned out gorgeous!

    I am absolutely going to try this! I’ve been wanting to do a spiral but been afraid that the rings would be wonky. Thanks!

    I've found that Crayola washable markers, sold in a box with multiple colors, are much cheaper than quilter's markers, and work just as well. Test them on a scrap and run through your washing machine to be sure.

      I’m gonna have to get a pack and try them! I’ve had a couple of people say that’s what they use! That would be awesome too you have multiple color options 😍

    General multi-pastel chalk pencils are supposed to be great for marking a quilt. They disappear with water but don't rub off while you're quilting. I think I got this from Coriander Quilts. Amazon has them.

      @StitchObsessed  29 днів тому

      Oh that makes total sense that just regular chalk would work! Thank you for the heads up! 👏🏻💖

    You have given me the greatest of ideas 💡 I plan to do this too. How big was the dowel stick?

    • @StitchObsessed
      @StitchObsessed  28 днів тому

      Yay! That’s awesome! We used a 1/4” dowel rod, and my rings are about 1 1/2” apart!

    The design and colors are very pleasing. Will you free motion quilt it? It would be pretty to hand quilt with big stitches too. If you use a walking foot and spin the quilt, will it pucker? That's what happened to my last quilt as I spun it to machine quilt around each square I had to take it all out and quilt the sashing and tie the squares.

    • @StitchObsessed
      @StitchObsessed  29 днів тому

      I am planning on doing free motion quilting! If I had more time, I would LOVE to hand quilt it. I glue basted which holds the layers together really well, so I think if I were to use a walking foot, it wouldn’t pucker.

    Was there anything put on the end of the dowel to prevent slippage?

    • @StitchObsessed
      @StitchObsessed  26 днів тому

    When sewing circles with a walking foot, guess how much of your project is sewing on the bias. ALL OF IT. This begins to distort your quilt. Use caution, ask me how I know😢.
