Congratulation!! Your husband really did a fantastic job on your reward!! You deserve it and sweet that he realizes it too!! Big fan!! You make me smile!
Congratulations Karen!! How nice of your husband to make you something special to commemorate the event.
He's a keeper
That tip for using 2" strips of fp to stabilize long bias stretchy edges to add the border is GOLD
Thank you!!!
Glad to share. I use it often and you can use the same strips over and over again
I love it too, but did you actually say to stitch 1/4" from the edge of the paper, after already trimming the quilt top 1/4" from the edge of the paper?
Congratulations on reaching 400K subscribers. The plaque your husband made is much nicer than the official UA-cam ones. That was a really sweet thing he did for you.
The love and support from hubby far outweighs anything YT will ever give you ❤❤ congratulations!
Thank you so much!!
our quilting group at church makes 'comfort quilts' with scriptures in some of the blocks... in word i insert a text box and size it to what i need for the block... pick a font and type out the scripture... print...using a light box... lay the printed scripture on the light box and tape it down... iron freezer paper on the back of the block you want the scripture on. the tape that on top... fabric up.. freezer paper stabilized the fabric...we use pigma graphic pens (archival ink) 1.0 is a good size tip for tracing. none of us can print or write that well... so tracing the scripture onto the fabric... it looks professional... peel the paper off...we set the ink with a hot iron... and sew into the quilt... wish i could post a pic... but you should try it...we use black...but i think that have other colors...sharpies are not as perennate as you think... have fun
I remember when we were kids we put beautiful fall maple leaves between two pieces of waxed paper and ironed them. We could keep them for years!
Funny, I was thinking about that while making the video. Those beautiful colours. And the waxed paper made them so shiny
Mom would do that with our rare four leaf clover finds!
I have a red leaf I pressed in a book in 1968!
Congratulations Karen! Wow! 400,000 Subscribers! What an accomplishment! Kudos to your husband for making you a 400K plaque!
Thank you very much
Oh my gosh, I just bought some water soluble tear away, which works great, but this method is genius. I bought a whole 12" thick role of freezer paper along time ago and only use it for applique. I see this will really be helpful. Thank you and congratulations, 400K. Think of all the people you've helped, you've worked hard to make so many of us better at what we love.
Freezer paper was one of the star quilting supplies back in the early 1990s before we had so much bespoke kit for quilting. I used it for all of these things back then. I think I still have that roll. I started quilting again 2 years ago after a 25+ year hiatus (and have actually just about completed my UFOs from back then-two on their way to longarmer, one has two sides of hand sewing binding left, and two more completely done!)
I still have my roll from back then 😅 I tend to forget about it until I need I spot it & decide to use it more often
👏👏👏
I think I’ll b e on my first roll of freezer paper for the rest of my life!
Freezer paper on HEXIES!!!!! O MY. I've wanted to make a hexie quilt but balked at the card backs and the extra stitching. Freezer paper to the rescue. Much more do-able now )))))
You will get a stiffer hexi template if you iron 2-3 layers of FP together. All layers paper side up. Easier to remove, too!!
Thank you so much Karen for all of the wonderful thing I have learned from you. The latest item is the use of freezer paper. I used it when sewing borders on a quilt and it made it so much easier and no WAVES. 400,000 subscribers is so great.
Thank you
Now that makes more sense. Freezer paper gets rid of the multiple bits of paper )))) Just ONE piece that comes off really nice and clean. )) I can handle that. The big star is inspiring !! Your hubby is a keeper. Make sure he gets plenty of treats. ))) Clapping cheering and confetti for your 400 000 subscribers YAYYYYY )))) We all know how THAT happened )))
Thank you
Congratulations Karen. What a nice gift from your husband! And, very well done!
Congratulations Karen on your accomplishment. Clever hubby making your keepsake.
Clever ideas with freezer paper. Not something I usually keep on hand but must look for some.👏♥️🇦🇺
Hi Karen, I am so happy about you reaching 400I subscribers, I have known about how talented you are, and your great ability to teach. It is so nice to know how good your husband is as well.
Thank you so much! 🤗🤗🤗
Congratulations Karen. Doesn't surprise me. The content of your videos has been priceless to me. Thank you 🎉
Thank you so much!
Oh my goodness! I've used freezer paper for the last 40 years for my garment sewing, I ironed my very thin tissue like clothing patterns onto this paper to make my patterns thicker and last much much longer. You are the first sewist I have seen on YT that has shown this hack. Thank you very much for sharing the many ways one can use this very useful paper! Congratulations on your 400K!
I also have been using FP for making tissue paper pieces more substantial.
Karen, I love and trust you so much, when I saw this video come up, I went bought a roll before I even watched the video. Congratulations on your goal reached!! On to half a million!!
Wow, this video has so much valuable info and tips!! Thank you so much. ❤️ that award your husband made you is amazing. Congratulations 🎉👏👏👏
Congratulations! Your husband’s sign is great!
Congratulations! I am so happy for you and want to tell you again how happy I am that I found you and your videos. They are always full of great ideas and instructions. Thank you for all your hard work and great videos!! ❤
Besides quilts and bags, i also sew little girls dresses. I fuse the tissue paper patterns to freezer paper, then trace the size i need onto pattern paper. I never cut the tissue pattern and can make several sizes from 1 pattern
Another good tip. Thanks for sharing
FANtastic! and I love your blouse.
400K Wow. You deserve this. I use it for some projects even free-motion quilting. Now I have even more uses for it. I do also use it for the freezer
Congratulations on 400,000 subscribers. The plaque your husband made for you speaks volumes. God bless you both. 😊
Love the idea of stabilizing the bias edge of a quilt …brilliant!!
Huzzah! Karen, Congratulations 🎉💖🍀
What a nice guy, quite the AWARD!
THANK YOU for sharing this with us! I am starting to use Freezer paper and am excited to learn all these new (to me) applications. YOU certainly explain and demonstrate very well, you are so helpful.
I wish I could go on your trip with you, such an adventure!
Thank you again, bless you.😊❤❤🧵🪡✂️🦓Liz
Mind blown! I love the border stabilization tip!
Tip: For copying, card stock works even better than ordinary paper.
Great tip. Thank you
It probably makes the fabric stiffer for more even distribution of ink.
Be sure to use an INK-JET PRINTER!!! Toner will not attach itself to fabric.
I'd forgotten about how handy freezer paper is for sewing and quilting. My great-grandmother used to use it in her "Baltimore" applique quilts. Also, I want to thank you for the video you did long ago about the Panasonic cordless iron. It made replacing my cordless iron after a sudden failure of it far easier than I imagined.
I felt the same way when I started using my cordless iron. It makes it so much easier to
❤ ❤ Kudos to a marvelous tutor who shares her vast knowledge so lovingly to willing students.
Love the hack for the labels! I used to buy expensive fabric sheets made for printers. Freezer paper is such a great quilting tool 🙂
Thank you Karen!!! Why didn't I think of using freezer paper for foundation paper piecing!!? (Maybe because I avoid foundation paper piecing... so I haven't worked at it! 😅) Anyway, nice explanation about freezer, parchment and waxed paper. So many folks are confused about the difference! As always NICE JOB! And congrats on 400K!! ❤🥰
Thank you 😊
As you were discussing other uses of freezer paper, I am working on a floral appliqué using freezer paper on the wrong side of my fabric. I usually needle turn and use forceps to remove the paper when I’m close to finishing that motif.
sounds pretty
congratz on 400K.
Congratulations Karen! What a great milestone! I have no doubt that your number of Subscribers will continue to climb!
Congratulation on your continued growth. It was fun to listen to a friend who just discovered you, a kid in a candy store! On freezer paper, if you want it thicker, you can iron sheets together [help if you iron them first before layering], also for longer strips, just over lap them, iron and you have a longer strip. Also, you can iron cut outs to a quilt top and then quilt around them, no markings on the top.
Great tips that’s for sharing them
Congrats on 400K! That million mark will be here before you know it!
I couldn’t appliqué without it! I cut my FP patterns on my Silhouette Cameo. I also use it for my infrequent FP piecing - what a joy to be free of tearing paper!
Congratulations 🎊 most of the video's on FPP I've seen, the paper is sewn to materials. This looks much better.
It’s amazing what freezer paper can do for Quilting projects? Thank you for the refresher.
You are so welcome!
I found a box of deli paper and it goes thru the printer wonderfully and it tears clean!! Love it more than freezer paper!
I noticed that Amazon has more brands available then there did before
Another great group of lessons on freezer paper, I especially like the idea of printing labels on to fabric. I did hand write and embroider my first couple of quilts but that soon went by the way. I confess I have been lazy the last 5 or so years, I have made about a dozen quilts for charity and thought a label didn’t matter on them, but I need to rethink that attitude now 😊😊
😊😊❤❤Congratulations 🎉🎉 Awesome award that your husband made for you. Thanks for all the freezer paper tips. 😊😊❤❤ As always love your videos. 😊😊
A couple other thoughts for freezer paper. If you have a sublimation printer, you can fuse a sheer polyester interfacing/ embroidery stabilizer to freezer paper and run it through your printer to print foundation pieces. Heat set the ink to make it permanent. Sew on the lines and trim like you would with foundation paper piecing. The stabilizer is left in your final piece without adding significant thickness. And it stabilizes all your biases. The best part is you can see the lines from both sides for fabric placement.
Next, you can fuse tissue patterns to the plastic side of freezer paper. Iron the patterns first to remove wrinkles, then fuse. It's fairly permanent and strengthens the patterns for reuse.
Finally, you can fuse multiple layers of freezer paper together, plastic side of one to paper side of the next, to make stiffer template pieces. Works nicely for applique or other template uses.
Thanks for sharing. Great tips
A❤️👍👍👍❤️👋👋👋❤️ Congratulations on over 400,000 and for such a thoughtful hubby.
Brilliant!! Wonderful idea to get those edges stabilized. Thank you for your work Karen.
I saved this video to view again. Thanks for all this valuable info.
Keep on keeping on!
Glad it was helpful!
I get it finally! This video has been so helpful. I’m addicted to the precision of the economy block now. making an Ispy quilt for my little 3 YO niece. Thanks again!
Good to see you Cat. I have just started my own 2.5 economy block quilt. I figure it will take me 10 years to make
I see your point! I’m making the 5” block I think. Goal - 120. Done - 33😂
You have to buy this by the metre in quilt shops in Australia. Not sold in shops. My husband bought me a big roll while in the USA. Lucky me.
We Canadians stock up when we go to the states as well
I got a roll of Reynolds here in Australia, but it was many years ago so can't remember where unfortunately. Mind you, I think this roll might last a lifetime 😅
If you do a Google search you will find many of the smaller fabric outlets sell freezer paper by the box. Spotlight seems to be the only one selling it by the metre. The price varies a lot but I think I paid about $20 for mine and it will certainly outlive me!
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts I finally found freezer paper locally in Calgary at Save-On Foods.
I am in Australia and have never had to buy freezer paper by the metre. Hobbysew sell it by the roll. Am working on a Dear Jane quilt and found it very good for FPP the very small pieces - I punch holes along the seam lines with my sewing machine needle (minus any thread) then sew directly along the lines, the paper is then quite easy to tear away. Love your channel Karen
If you don't need a whole roll of paper, ask the butcher at the meat counter to tear off some from their packaging area. If you need a lot of paper, the food service markets carry jumbo rolls of it.
Congratulations on your milestone! I’ve been working with freezer paper for years but learned some new techniques from you. Thank you for all your hard work to put these awesome tutorials together.
I love your channel and congratulate your success in reaching so many subscribers! I know that not every method appeals to everyone, but this video validates my aversion to paper piecing...too much patience required!!! 🤷🏼♀️😊
It is very fiddling
Thanks for sharing all the ways to use freezer paper
I love the sign your husband made for very sweet❣️❣️❣️❣️
Absolutely Amazing
Brilliant idea for bias, would never ever have thought of it. Thank you for the freezer paper ideas.
Wow! I didn't know I could use Freezer Paper in so many ways. Thank you.
Thank you so much Karen, I really really enjoyed watching you show us all about using freezer paper,, in our sewing projects. This has been very very helpful and useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Foam hand soap reduces water use. I used it in the preschool room because it rinses quickly and completely from little hands.
Congratulations, Karen 🎉,
Thanks for the refresher course on freezer paper . Great tutorial.. ❤🇨🇦
Congratulations on reaching 400,000! I hand write my labels because I don't have an ink jet printer. Freezer paper as a stabilizer works well for this as well. Iron the paper onto the back, write on the front, peel away the paper, iron to heat-seal the ink, and you're good to go.
👍
Thanks.
I needed more ideas on how to use freezer paper. My husband bought me a huge roll of it at Aldi. I don’t think I’ll use it all before I die.
It’s also good to draw patterns onto
Use it for your meats to freeze. Need masking tape to close.
I use to cover foods in the crockpot. Holds moisture in
Congrats on 400K Karen!💥💥🍋🎉🎉🎉🎉💕💕
Such a sweet act of respect by your husband💕🧵
Wow this is gonna be a timesaver thank you so much
Love the use of Freezer paper with Label making ❤
Thank you for sharing
Congrats on 400K, soon to be 500K, I'm sure!! (And kudos to your DH for making that beautiful plaque. ;-)
Congratulations on 400,000 ❤
I have used freezer paper to make shapes with felt for several years when I make children's books with fabric, learning other things I can use it for is great, thank you for your videos
🤗🤗
Congrats Karen, you deserve it. Love your channel.
This is a brilliant technique, thanks Karen!! Congratulations 🥳 on 400,000 Subscribers on UA-cam. That’s amazing!😻
Thank you Karen. I have always wondered about freezer paper methods. Congrats for 400k.
You are so welcome!
I cut the Reynolds roll of Freezer paper to 8.5x11 sheets and let them sit flat under a weight for a few days. They go through my printer with no issues. I love FPP with freezer paper!
Fantastic news on your 400,00 achievement. I use the pre-cut sheets whenever I am doing paper piecing. Using that method has made paper piecing so freeing
Thank you 😊
Congratulations on 400000 subscribers! I absolutely love your channel. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
I use freezer paper for templates! Works great!
Thank you
Thank you for the instruction for stabilizing bias edges. My jellyroll French braid quilt gave me fits trying to put sashes between the braids. I can fix it now!!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow .. thanks Karen... There's sooo many great 'tips&tricks'... I've always shied away from fpp. I will revisit your video time n time again ... Many thanks and congrats on 400k.
I use FP for needle turn applique but the FP is on TOP. This gives me a sharp edge to turn against AND the bright white is helpful for aging vision.
Smart
400,000 is fabulous. Congratulations. I LOVED this video. So many tips. Now to save it for when I am ready for each tip. I "sew" appreciate your videos. Thanks
I use long strip stencils of freezer paper to guide the quilt stitching.
400k yay!! Congratulations and wishing you many more to follow 🎉🎉🎉
400,000 - great job!! You give such cheerful & plain instructions and I really enjoy your videos. Blessings from Texas! 😊☕️💗🇨🇱
I never would have thought of using freezer paper....AWESOME!
I just bought some for my Dresden Plates.
You know, I love bold colors and certainly am drawn to certain colors. The thing I love most about quilting is the variety of colors, moods and themes you can create and get out of your head, moving to great additions to projects rather than limiting yourself. Some of my best times are created when I have a shared concept with a person I am making the quilt for! 😊
I love your star you made ❤
That you
Freezer paper is a big part of wool embroidery which so many quilters also do.
Good to know. I have a Sue Spargo kit to start later this year
Congratulations, love watching you. All the tips and tricks. Thank you
Thanks so much!
A true omg. Something you did enabled me to finally understand the paper piecing process. THANK YOU! 🤯
Woot 400k, CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Congrats on 400K subscribers! Well earned and I love the award your husband crafted.
For turned edge appliqué, I recently experimented with parchment paper. It is transparent enough the easily trace the exact design shape. A glue pen works great to hold the folded edges in place for stitching. Before I finish the stitching, I lift the fabric and the entire parchment form easily releases and pops out. Then I stitch down the last section. Usually I choose a gentle curve or straight away rather than a point or sharpe turn as the spot to release the form. The light weight parchment may require a gentler treatment while gluing the edge, but there is no longer a need to cut into the back of the background fabric to remove the freezer paper. I believe this will extend the life of the quilt.
Great ideas. I knew songs of this but your explanations are great
It used to be that freezer paper was as common as hens teeth. Last time I was in the market for it, I had to order it on line and it came from Germany via England and cost 3X as much. That being said "freezer paper never lies". I still have some, but now I mostly use a light-weight interfacing. You can draw on it, see through it and leave it in.
Thank you!
Congratulations Karen!
Yay ! I have 3 rolls; I need to use it.
Thank you for this video
