Hell yeah, the hidden Caleb intro is back!
There’s an intro??
Felt good to be back 😄
Yes! Hide and seek!!!!!
I thought the intro style was familiar and nostalgic, realized what he was doing, and then I was looking at the engine and thinking "he's behind it, isn't he?" and I was ready to see him leap out from the right side.
So he crawls out from the left side XD
Now we just need the random tools as a mic😂😂
The fact that the video ended exactly how it began is one of the reasons Caleb’s videos are the highest quality content out there 👌🏼
Haha thank you ❤ I try my best to make content I’m proud of!
that's testimony of how solid the UZ lineup is, you gave it hell in V1 and it was still in mint condition. I'm pumped to see that bad boy growling again 👌
Yeah it never once had an issue, even being revved to 7.5k and overheating and everything! Amazing motors
One of the most iconic engines in the industry. My personal favorite for sure.
If you rotate the crank so that the camshafts line up with the "T" mark instead of the TDC mark, the cams won't shift when taking the belt off. This works on both the 1UZ as well as the 2UZ you have in the sequoia!
Oooohhhh very interesting
@@_Gingium_ yeah for some reason nobody tells you this but it saved me so much time changing the belt in my Tundra
@Jack Rosen if you haven't already. Check out Kelvin from CarTune New Zealand. He is the absolute peak of uz gurus. He is very helpful and his videos are incredibly detailed.
9:12 local man discovers leverage
🤣
You should have sanded back the paint on the alternator where it mount to the engine, youll have a insulated ground and the alternator will struggle to power all the drifting goodness
Out of all of the car/fabrication channels on UA-cam yours are the most pleasing to watch. Great content.
That is an honor, thank you!
The outro of the video being the intro is one of the most kino cinema things I’ve seen on UA-cam. Congrats 🎉
Caleb's welding is already top-tier at such a young age. He's going to be making some beautiful pieces in years to come.
Plasma cutting protip: add a lead in and lead out to prevent the little gouge at the piercing cut. This was a super satisfying video, really like the progress so far!
The quality of your videos is seriously off the charts mate, it's awesome to watch.
Thank you!
@@_Gingium_ Ofcourse :)
Love any 1uz content
Caleb! Those oval ports next to the supercharger outlet are silencer ports! Fill them with weld or plate them off and there's a significant increase in whine sound! There is no performance change having these ports open or closed, just a change in sound.
Man it’s crazy how far you have came I’ve been silently watching your channel grow since the beginning. This version of the drift truck is epic! Me being a Toyota fanboy I’ve been hooked on this build since the beginning. The 1uz is one of the most underrated engines out there Hella reliable and solid power. Ready to see this thing ripping.
the blacked out engine is so sick. coming from a guy who's only worn black the last 7 years haha
Australian here. That intercooler/supercharger manifold looks great. I had a 1UZ non vvti myself, would have loved to get it supercharged - I now have a 1JZ vvti.
Friend of mine love to do demolition derbies which trashes cars but he painting everything white under the hood. The engine bay, the engine itself so he can see leaks and issues. At first I was like black is the only color but after seeing it and how nice oil leaks show up it is really nice and when I do my next build I'm going white on the underside.
That frag out gag would've been a perfect lead in to the episode before the flash bang gingium opening 😅
Gingium, you are the sole reason i bought a LS400, the beautiful sounds of the drift truck V1 made me want one
So happy to see another one of these builds. I myself using nearly this same kit, but for an early non vvti 1UZ. This will be in my 93 Lexus SC400.
Very nice choice. Good luck to you!
Next level quality of content recently. Can't help but watch every video from beginning to end.
I just LOVE 1UZ content!
Here in Germany the 1UZ is nearly unknown.
Keeps me dreaming about supercharging my SC400, but I guess, it doesn't fit under the Bonnet...
It should fit, will be close, but should fit
The m90 should fit if I'm not mistaken but if not then a procharger would be perfect
You're living my dream...... I sold my 98' LS400 because I couldnt afford the dream build. There will be another LS400 in the future, no stress.
29:50 When you said "On the back" for some reason I expected you were going for a transaxle somehow and thought you are a crazy fabricator.
Then I actually remembered you are a crazy fabricator. Love your work Caleb.
Much love for the uz1! I worked on the one that had distributor cap and ignition rotors in the cam gears. I absolutely hated working on it! But when it was was running right (majority of the time it lived) it was smooth like butter and scewed my vision of how motors should run. You couldn't tell if it was running or not because of its smoothness and it wasn't a slouch when you hammered the throttle. I miss that ls400
unironically some of the best car content on all of youtube. the fab work and builds are next level, keep up the amazing editing and videos, yall are doing great work
This is EXACTLY what I was waiting for. Got a 78 hilux and a 95 sc400 and a dream
Hidden Caleb for the intro and it ended up just being that longest loop in history. Absolutely stellar work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You should get a vaper blasting cabinet like Sreten from m539 restorations
M539 Restorations is my favorite car channel. Gingium is next, then LegitStreetCars
They're like $20k starting for those damn things, it's crazy. Makes parts unreal looking, but hot damn even the used ones are hella expensive.
So happy to see this happening, I remember when you first got the truck Caleb and I’m so happy that I’m finally seeing it.
Love that black crackle finish. It's a look that's timeless and always looks good.
Loving the MCM cap, and the signed Superhonk poster on the shelf. Got me one of them too
I'm surprised you didn't do rods and pistons while you had it apart.
That is QUITE a bit more work and expense to just "do it while you're there" lol. We'll rock the stock motor for a season and then build it next winter!
It's toyota 1uz its good
@@PennerFab The motor is cheap enough to start over again with a new used motor if it does pop.
i feel like his focus for this build is getting the chassis dialled with some power adder. For the upcoming winter, maybe he intends on taking the powers to the next level.
@@_Gingium_ I got ya i figured that was next step in the winter lol
Seeing all the slag from the welds fall into the intake ports 😮
10:15 If those are SS screws into aluminum threads, you are going to have a bad time if you ever have to remove them. Awesome build!!!
Yes, the threads need either Duralac or Tefgel on them to ease removal at a later date.
I"ve found contact adhesive on both surfaces works really well for holding gaskets in place, also prevents the risk of excess silicone ending up in oilpumps or valves.
This engine looks so sick now. Engine disassembly and reassembly videos are some of my favorite on UA-cam
Bro your music choice has always been so gasss for your videos man, its like I click off and hear a mix of fire beats and you talkin about the process then i can click back in for great cinematography
This was one of the top things I wanted to do to my LS400. Definitely worth the wait for this video.
I recently tore down a 1MZ for my camry. It was interesting watching you tear down that 1UZ and seeing how similar they are.
That 1UZ looks gorgeous! Can't wait to see that truck rippin again
Yeah man the beauty of the 90s and 2000s toyotas and most Japanese cars was the similarities in their other engines.
Best automotive channel on UA-cam.
" It is always a pleasure to look at your work. Greetings from Germany."
The little ford svt logo on the supercharger looks clean 👌 it's the little details that make it pop
Trash
You put the spark plug tube seals in upside down. The beveled part goes towards the tube to make it easy to install. There ya go lol. Can't wait to hear the rev limiter on that thing. Gotta love that part
Bro. Those red or blue nylon abrasive brush wheel drill attachment and some simple green gets super clean for paint prep.
Can't wait to hear this monster!
You need a blasting cabinet
brings me back to old old old setup from the rally miata
please turn the timing belt twice after installing it. wouldn't be the first one to blow an engine because the timing belt set itself wrong after going a full 4 stroke rotation.
I was a mechanic for nearly a decade and I second that. Did a belt on an older Camry?I think. Great car other than the engine vibrating it self to death cause it was a tooth off
8 to 1 exhaust on that thing would sound crazy😍
If you haven’t done it yet I believe the Fisch racing bell housing comes with an oem gasket. Just did a swap for my 13b
I hope that starter is doing good, cuz that was a good moment for rebuild
They are very very resilient and long lasting. But yeah I would have thought about replacing or rebuilding it. He should be fine though. It's a 1uz after all haha
absolutely incredible. by far the best thing ive watched this month. i dream for the days of having enough knowledge and contacts to do this stuff!
hey Caleb, im working on getting my own machine/engine/auto shop up and running again, would love to do some work with you in the future. I've been building race cars for nearly 4 years now, performance for ~6-7, and just working on cars in general since 2006. toyota and fords are my specialty, however if it has an engine, its right up my alley
Man when I said I was screaming watching you put those seals on backwards 😂😭😭😂 glad you caught it 😎🤌🏿
One side of the valve train looks better than the other because of the PCV. One side pulls fresh air in the valve train (that's the clean side), vents through the crankcase while picking up unburned fuel vapors and venting out the opposite side valve train (the dirty side) and finally into the intake manifold.
It looks like you put the spark plug seal ins backwards to what the old ones came out... Don't feel bad it happens to the best of us 😅
You know your stuff, it’s without a doubt a piece of art. I hope one day I can reach that level of skills
Honestly this is super helpful as I was about to do the exact same mod to my 96 LS 400
You should get a vaperblaster or hydroblaster for cleaning. Shaves a lot of time and (pielen) in Dutch 😜
i love you for this bro. finally a 1uz build
Love your attention to detail like painting the the raised timing marks
those headers sound amazing when they are flipped around. I haven't ran them the intended way
Always love seeing uz’s being worked on, great motors
I’m still amazed at that phone app that can take measurements for things like spacers and gaskets. What is this wizardry?
29:15 You need your own powder coat equipment so you can get it done properly. 👌
Thanks for the video, always a pleasure to watch.
Caleb young Man,...you're good, you are a top-best fabricator. All the best from the Old Man from the Netherlands. I like your work.
Yess! I'd love to stuff a 1uz in a Miata NA. I think it's only been done once.
Its definitely not a common swap but I know it's been done quite a bit Ive seen it personally at least 4 times
Check out NightRide I believe they are called. Some euro boys doing cool shit. Man guy has a slammed NA? I think with a uz swap
satisfying very satisfying video. the plasma cutter fab parts are an amazing touch.
you will need two small rollers around the blower pully belt to reduce slip and slop of the belt
Gosh dang that is a sick engine. Can't wait for dyno day.
Also you def need to just get a powder coating gun and a small oven. :D
You guys really need a powder coating setup! Maybe give the cheapo Harbor Freight one a shot?
Need to get you one of those fancy dry ice vaporblast machines!
Glad to see i'm not the only one that clicks the torque wrench once then half a dozen times again after that just to be *sure*.
Double tap for certainty
It turned out sweet, super stoked to hear it run
Love the old hidden intros
You need a bead blaster and small powder coat oven in your shop so you can use Eastwoods powder coat. Perhaps they will sponsor you? Also remember heat is your Enemy!!! Use JETHOT Coatings!!! Also Never paint anything in the engine compartment Black!!! Stage 8 Locking Header Bolts are Great to use as well!
Cleaning the oil pump pick would be prudent at this point if you have not done so already. Good video, great attention to detail
Hope you included the tensioner half way, with the new belt length! Excellent vid again Caleb.
the 1uz lookin real sexy with the black and silver theme
Wow the engine is looking great! Can't wait to hear it with the supercharger.
The t on the marks is the timing marks. It prevents the cams from jumping…
I can't believe I watched you go from putting a lip on molly to doing this level of building cars. Also, ending the video the way it started was absolutely amazing, 300iq content creator mindset XD
I LOVE the intro/outro thing. Hell yeah
So freaking stoked for this build!
Mmmm yesss, boost all the UZ's
The intro & outro though 🤣🤣🤣
26:57 wow, you are using centimeters :O =]
great build, love the truck !
One side of the engine (under valve cover) probably looks better than the other side, because of the distribution of PCV vapor more on one side than the other.
Double x or h pipe on this setup would probably sound so wicked
Double??? I’ve never heard that done before
Corsa makes a double xpipe for the s550 mustangs, sounds really good imo and people also do it on the e34 540i’s and that sounds great as well
I never thought I'd see one of these supercharged. Now it's called a 1UZ-FSE V8
...wait what? People have been supercharging these for decades?
I was originally disappointed when you went with a blower because the NA just sounded so GOOD!! BUT having now seen the motor come together I have to admit I'm getting pretty excited!!!
Superchargers don't fuck up the exhaust note like turbos. Superchargers are perfect for v8s if you want to keep the sound intact
@@REAPER3fitty exhaust note sure, but it definitely changes the induction sound, and I love n/a intake noises!
I wasn’t expecting a 1UZ rebuild tbh anyways loving the build man keep up with the good work! ❤
Just want I would want to drop in my Land Cruiser 100....nice work!
2uz would be better
@@REAPER3fitty yep spot on. The 2UZ is in the LCs and not the 1UZ. Thanks.
I haven't watched car UA-cam in a long time and I did not realize that that was Caleb
Quite therapeutic to watch.
Hey Caleb, stumbled across a video on the RX-7 and ended up binging every video on your channel after that. I love your content man, and you're improving it every week. I'm subbed on my personal UA-cam and my work UA-cam just so I can support you more, and I never miss an upload. Keep doing what you're doing.
Damn imma comment again but I miss hanging out with you and Kurt, my ankle being broke has stopped me from doing a lot but I’m walking now so I’m tryna come to the shop and hopefully let you check out my 90’ 240 wagon get a “stock” vs stock comparison
your content lately has has me dying to see more!
love the all shit you do bud!
