FIVE PUPPY TRAINING GAMES for LOOSE LEASH WALKING:
    • Puppy Training: FIVE g...
ADVANCED LOOSE LEASH WALKING: • Dog Training Tutorial:...
(The next step after working your way through this tutorial)
This puppy training tutorial will show you how to teach your dog to stop pulling on walks. It's important to first develop a strong foundation before taking this behavior around distractions. Most puppies are not ready to start going on long walks when they first come home and the exercises demonstrated in this video are essential first steps that you can start from day one! The techniques shown here will also help develop a positive relationship with the puppy. Training a dog to behave on a loose leash is necessary but most people fail because they jump ahead without taking time to work on the basics. Subscribe to our channel for everything you need to know about training your dog and updates about future videos on how to take this skill to the next level!

As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

I HAVE TO SAY THIS- and I hate to compare but...
You are soooooooo much better than that other youtuber/dog trainer Zak George.
I've tried watching a lot of his videos and never really got anything out of it/was more confused than before bc I felt like their was no real solution when he was demonstrating. You do it so CLEARLY.
    THANK YOU.

I’ve been having awful walks with my puppy recently, he’s 6 months old and pulls so bad. I’ve taught him ‘heel’ but he will stick to my leg full attention until I give him a treat and then lunges off again.
This video made me realise I’ve jumped into just training him a strict heel instead of loose leash, back to the basics for us!

This was so helpful! I have a 3 month old Golden Retriever who was starting to get into a pulling habit and our walks started to be unpleasant. Understanding his motivation for pulling has been a game changer, as I can extrapolate that behavior to different situations. And this exercise was so easy for me to do and so easy for him to understand, I was able to have a wonderful loose leash walk close to home on that same day! We’re now working with distractions and having great success!

All I can say is THANK YOU!!!! My 5 month old puppy was starting to pull/ tug on the leash and I wanted to nip that in the butt. After watching your video, I practiced with my pup for 20 minutes following the progression you laid out. I used some pieces of deli turkey meat as an extra enticing and reinforcing reward. 😋 My pup caught on very quickly and I was able to progress to working on loose leash walking outside. He has already made SUCH an improvement, and our walk was so much more enjoyable! I am learning that it is more powerful and beneficial to reinforce the positive behaviors than condemn the negatives. Thanks again!! 🙏🏼

@@kaykaykailah2404 it is good, you have to use training that fits the dog. Some dogs do not care for treats at all and couldn't care less, some dogs are EXTREMELY motivated by food, there is no one size fits all training for dogs, cats, even people. Assertive training is effective... with the right dog, to be a good trainer means that you use methods that best suit what you're training.

This is so good I did training at PetSmart and my dog is super good but they heavily recommended an easy walk and didn't really address leash pulling other than don't go when the dogs pulling, and I've also heard tugging the leash as a negative enforcer, but this is kind of revolutionary my dog doesn't have an issue but I'd like it to be perfect and this is great!!

@Training Positive good video. This is the way I pretty much tried to teach my Ruby. She would do great at home, but once we would go outside for a walk treats and toys were completely useless to get her to pay attention and not tug. I finally had to try something different. Since all Ruby wants to do is go go go go I just simply stopped till she stopped pulling, but as soon as she stopped pulling I would say YES and start moving right away. I basically replaced a treat with moving forward. Now she does pretty good. Its funny though when I stop she will usually let out a big ol sigh as if to say darn it lol. I will be doing more dog teaching videos on my channel as well. How we all can work together and make each other better dog teachers.

Very sweet puppy. I wish I had watched this when mine was a pup. My GSD walks great on a loose leash except when distracted. People playing ball or dogs he wants to play with, a couple of times he has even taken a football off the kids and brought it back to me. Watched the videos on distractions and I am going to put these into practice. Funnily in dog training, he will perform and not care about the other dogs there. I think I have let him play with too many dogs at the park and reinforced his want to play in that environment.

my psychology professor, who's actually a behavioral psychologist has used your videos before, so I think that's a good indicator of your abilities of training haha. I have a 15 week old kangal puppy, he's extremely intelligent and unfortunately strong haha. Constantly worrying that I'm messing him up, even though the vet says I'm doing everything perfectly. There are some behaviors that still worry me, I know he's 15 weeks but he still bites a lot and gets very frustrated, also he is now 46.5 lbs, my blue heeler border collie mix is 45 lbs and I think my mix is afraid of him. My mix is 5 years old and won't play with my puppy anymore, meanwhile the 9 year old dog that we rescued from a puppy mill who was used as a breeder loves to play with my pup. I also don't know what to do with my puppy at home. I train with him and take him out, but that is between 30 mins to an hour. He's still very crazy so letting him stay out is not very possible, we also have him on a nice nap schedule where he naps for two hours and stays up for an hour etc. Not sure if I need to tweak that now since he's almost 16 weeks.

Tried stopping until she stopped these attributes but it actually took more than 15 minutes for her to be calm. Then continued on walking, she was pulling again, turned and walked the other way, this went on turning and turning for around 10 minutes, then I just got fed up and took her home from the park (which was empty and entering twilight at this point!). I am patient but this has been going on for 2 months, we have had her for 3 months is wearing me down

Best advice is to keep calm and not respond to the whining. Do not make a car ride a "big deal". Always keep calm. Dogs whine because they get anxious. So just be the example and stay calm. Provide treats and toys to distract them. Just like kids...

Thank you for this really great video! I wanted to ask: do you still walk your puppy outside in parallel of this training? If yes, how does it work?

Can you do a video on the merits of tether training for housebreaking puppies?

This was very helpful. My puppy pulls and everyone just kept telling me to stop or walk backwards which was just not working (he looks at me confused). My puppy is a German Shepherd husky mix(aka large dog), so pulling on the leash would be trouble once he gets bigger.

Is leash pressure something you would start with immediately (after having taught meaning of the marker words)?
