      I buy vidalia onions from A&M farms in Georgia. I was shocked that seedlings are planted by hand and several months later are harvested and replanted in another field until mature. That’s mileage that you won’t find in carrots or potatoes. They have a videography started on this years crop on UA-cam if anyone is interested. It will not deter me from watching Molly’s vids tho, way more entertaining.

You have a great personality, the smiles are great. Also- not sure if I mentioned it before, but I think you cut off your maple sap collecting way too early- I’ve gotten more sap here in Freeport Maine since you stopped collecting than I got in the first half of the season. I’ve been collecting all of March, and the storm on Thursday this week may even kickoff another round!

Because of the monetization of UA-cam channels there is a real potential to make a descent income from it. Mornin Miss Moll! At what temp do you keep the potatoes during storage, and what would the difference be if you used last years potatoes for this year's crop versus buying seed potatoes? 😊

    • @BellsFarming
      @BellsFarming  2 місяці тому

      Hey! Well they stay around 38-44 between the old side and the newer storage building. We try and empty the old side first. That will heat up quicker with the warm weather. In order to plant your own potatoes for seed, technically you have to grow “seed” we have done it in the past. But they gave found that this is easier, and we get to sell more of the crop we grow.

    molly you do know that those tiny potatoes are sold as gourmet potatoes at walmart right? just saying.. and evrytimei go there they for some unknow reason are almost sold out every time.. so you might want to look into that. now me i know big potatoes come from small ones.. but i am guessing your average walmart shopper does not know that. and then say they are the creamiest of the potatoes too so just a few words and WOW they are being sold.... by the truck loads... funny too in walmart chickens?... they no longer have feet they have paws according to walmart. chicken paws who knew. But thanks for the video i learn more and more about potatoes and how they are commercially brought from farm to my table awesome. Wish y grandmother was alive to today to see this operation.. she would be wowed for sure. Before it was just cut a potato and the piece had a couple with eyes on it dig a hole, plant, water, and when they grew up and died back we harvested them.

      Yeah we do keep them for 10 months. The potato storage building explained video talk about how the storage building works. It’s mostly temperature, humidity, dark, airflow, and sprout inhibitor applies after they are washed.

    Happy Belated Easter... Has anyone dumped a full tote bag of potatoes while in the process of moving them from one location to another?

    • @BellsFarming
      @BellsFarming  2 місяці тому

      They have never called from the forks, but there has been a few times that someone doesn’t tie the bottoms where the shoot is. You don’t know it until you lift it off the pallet. That makes a little mess. But they know how to fix it with light to many potatoes hitting the floor. I think there have been tote bags and tip over though.

    Molly, about three videos back you were deep frying some potatoes and you used a device I’ve seen before but usually are very old establishments too slice up the potato, that will be so handy for the boys and I, is that an item you would ever sell are of your shop to customers or is it something that if I knew anything about cooking I wouldn’t know where to look for it and what to ask for?

    • @BellsFarming
      @BellsFarming  2 місяці тому +1

      Haha we wouldn’t sell them. They are fry cutter made for a restaurant kitchen. You should be able to find one online. This one needs to be bolted to the wall or counter top. I’m sure there are smaller versions available you don’t have to mount :)

    • @BellsFarming
      @BellsFarming  2 місяці тому

      So I will usually just break the sprouts off and use them as normal. If the potato is really soft then I’ll pitch them. But I tend to be less picky about how hard a potato is. They are still good if they have eyes and are a little less firm.

      Yeah I guess. Our newtec grader only has 4 outlet lanes. So sometime we have to just put a size range into the bag that are not graded well because all of the lanes are busy. Sometime we have a lane we can dedicate to just green potatoes and junk. Looking back now, it would have been nice to order a 5th lane on the machine for the junk. Possible we can add onto it some day.

      We have in the past. Couple of reasons. We are able to sell everything we grow for the most part, we get the new genetics/ generations of seed, and we get to support another farm when we buy seed:)
