Quite expensive to run. There's plenty of space for more solar panels. Just get more battery capacity. A large power station would be a good investment instead of spending money on diesel

Hardly stress free! Always lots to do. Do you have to take your toilet to a pump out? Navigate frozen muddy paths to get to the roads in Winter? Worry about who’s on the tow path late at night? And yes, there are some strange people on the canal; at some point most people mooring on the towpath suffer vandalism. I love the canal, but let’s not get too carried away with some romantic idealism. And Winter on the canal can be hard graft! Fine if you’re in the safety of a marina, with electric link up and water - but that’s expensive, and so are residential moorings - with or without link ups.

What a great canal boat you built, Jen, she is gorgeous!! I've lived on a 43 ft. Viking aft cabin for 13 years now, and it's amazing how little you need to live aboard. Good on ya Jen, for discovering this lifestyle!!
Everything is gorgeous. When we lived in England, we spent as much time as possible renting longboats. There's such a beautiful camaraderie on the rivers. I adored it. You've designed and built the perfect vessel. That you enjoy it is so obvious.
She's a lovely person and her boat is gorgeous! Good for her. I think I'd have had underfloor heating if that was an option. I know from mates who've lived on boats for periods they can get very cold in winter!
With such a big roof space you could have a gutter to collect rainwater, pass it through a simple filter and use it for the washing machine. Maybe a small everhot heater for your bedroom too. We have one, its great. Lovely boat.
My narrowboat build lists includes a heating coil around the chimney of the stove that would pump water around underfloor heating. Heat the entire boat with the stove.
Amazing boat. She did a really nice job designing the inside. She seems like a very happy, bubbly person, so clearly the boat suits her purposes very well. So I'm hoping she manages to come up with a solution to help warm that master bedroom, I'm sure there's a practical solution that'll work.
They wouldn’t give her a mortgage, so she’s like “Ok watch this. I’ll spend all the money you didn’t want from me (probably 1/3 of what they would have taken from her in fees, principal, etc) and own my own home in less than a year.”

This is great& they get dressed round the fire, as I did as a child in the 60’s, not all central heated & spoilt as kids are today. What a great experience for kids to grow up in& no telly!! ❤️🙏
Ice on the inside of the windows. That takes me back. What a delightful lady. I wonder what will happen when the children get a little older. Their bedrooms seem a trifle small for teenagers.
That’s a nice cosy and comfortable looking home. It was a breath of fresh air with this lovely lady telling us all about her boat and showing us around it.

Came across your channel totally by accident and love the tour of your house boat! You have so much personality and seem so happy!Always wanted to go to England as my grandmother was born in Yorkshire!
Jen is super organised which is perfect for living on a boat, I lived on a boat for a few years and was ready for a house as my husband is not an organised neat person...What a beautiful home she has made. Gorgeous kitchen and bathroom! Her bedroom with the door outside is gorgeous.
That boat is huge, she has made it into a beautiful home. I’m sure her kids love the lifestyle, I seen on Instagram where her boy and her where exploring having a wonderful time.
Fantastic boat! I would suggest attaching a water tank to the burner which is hooked up to the radiators, that way the boat will get some heat when the burner is going. It probably won't be a huge amount of heat but it would certainly keep the chill off in the winter.
Really beautiful boat - it's extra width gives so much more space, but at the expense of being more limited as to where it can travel.....swings and roundabouts. The owner has tough feet too!
I absolutely Love this!!! I’ve always wanted to live on a boat but never did and if I had This is exactly what I would’ve wanted!! Amazing home 😉❤️ 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Such a sweet lady! And cute little feet, scampering around on the boat. Her kids should be very proud and excited to grow up in this home. They are definitely living the good life!❤❤❤
This is my 34th year living on a boat. I would venture that this lady didn't build it in such a short period of time, but paid others to do the work to her design. The lack of adequate heating in her bed cabin shows this. All around a very good job visually and a good balance of family/workspace.
@@worldsend69 to claim another's skills as your own because you had a means of exchange to do so is unfortunately the way of the world. I would be interested to know if she gave the station and lofting plans to the hull builder.
Wow, I think you have done an amazing job in such a short space of time. Quite eye opening living the boat life. Obviously limited lifestyle to some degree but avoids the rat race. It's a great environment to raise you're kids in, I take my hat off to you Jen x
Its looks very nice. There is a huge amount of space on the roof and those solar panels are tiny. A few much bigger ones would likely mean that she wouldn't need to run the engine during winter as much. I wonder how well the boat was insulated as well - maybe better insulation would result in a more comfortable space for a larger amount of the year.
@@redwolfexr Diesel heaters are expensive to run though, and depending on mooring location, diesel may well not be accessible very easily. Solar panels are a great idea, although vandalism on the towpaths is unfortunately always an issue…

Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful boat. I have lived aboard a semi trad narrowboat for fourteen years , but feel I'm getting too old now, finding things hard work. A fantastic job you are doing Jen.
Yes, there comes a time. Sadly I’m off the canal. Miss it every day. But hard work.
This is great& they get dressed round the fire, as I did as a child in the 60’s, not all central heated & spoilt as kids are today. What a great experience for kids to grow up in& no telly!! ❤️🙏
That is all just sooo lovely. Much better than tiny house. Lovely kitchen/sitting room- and travel up and down canals. Excellent!!
As long as you like shaking all the time. Especially during flooding time
Lol. nope not for me. Everyone is different.
She can’t travel on a lot of the canal network as it’s not a conventional narrow boat. Too wide.
wow the boat is so loverly the way its fitted out ..and so well planned ..respect to the young lady for doing what most people would be scared to do..
What a beautiful Package!
Except it's too cold in the winter. Better heating system required
This place is awesome! I love it, the layout, bathroom, kitchen, decks, tons of space, the floors are super cool, and she’s so capable, sunny, and creative. She’s smart , practical, and used her money wisely. I’m sure it’s worth way more now than when she bought it. ❤️😊. Go girl!
So spacious and beautifully built! I love everything about it! ❤
Came across your channel totally by accident and love the tour of your house boat! You have so much personality and seem so happy!Always wanted to go to England as my grandmother was born in Yorkshire!
This is a well kitted out boat! Very homely... I could live in a boat like this... great job lady !
Beautiful boat, I would be tempted to put a second wood burner in the main bedroom if they're space 😊
heat up easy
Jen is super organised which is perfect for living on a boat, I lived on a boat for a few years and was ready for a house as my husband is not an organised neat person...What a beautiful home she has made. Gorgeous kitchen and bathroom! Her bedroom with the door outside is gorgeous.
That boat is huge, she has made it into a beautiful home. I’m sure her kids love the lifestyle, I seen on Instagram where her boy and her where exploring having a wonderful time.
She might consider a few fans for the top of the wood/coal stove to circulate the heat aft. Great build-out on that floating palace.
My first time seeing these boats. What an amazing way to live life.. just amazing ❤
Fantastic boat! I would suggest attaching a water tank to the burner which is hooked up to the radiators, that way the boat will get some heat when the burner is going. It probably won't be a huge amount of heat but it would certainly keep the chill off in the winter.
what a refreshing happy soul,,, she is beautifully happy and very healthy, and her smile says a thousand words
What an extraordinary young lady, I have nothing but admiration for her.
They are definitely living the good life!❤❤❤
Wow its really nice. Well done to her and her family 😊
What a gorgeous, lovely woman. A beautiful space you have made for you and your children. You have amazed me.
Awww, Jen comes across as a fun charming person! Boat is lovely too. :)
Cinderella toilet the best
Lol perhaps all the toilet matter turns to sparkle dust
I've subscribed what a breath of fresh air at last someone positive about life I wish you all the best in your adventures
Wow, thats the biggest house boat I've ever seen. I love her style and energy. Thanks
This home is absolutely so lovely.
yes
What a lovely boat and a lovely lady as well.
It was a joy to watch her explain and explore her lifestyle.
You are absolutely amazing to start with and what you have created is simply brilliant. It comes across how happy and content you are. Great!
This boat is gorgeous. I absolutely love it. I would have a fan near the stove to blow warm air to my bedroom. :)
Just put the fan on top of the stove.
Beautiful home!
She is absolutely adorable, I could listen to her all day every day 😊😊😊❤❤❤does Jen have any more posts???
This is my 34th year living on a boat. I would venture that this lady didn't build it in such a short period of time, but paid others to do the work to her design. The lack of adequate heating in her bed cabin shows this.
All around a very good job visually and a good balance of family/workspace.
@@worldsend69 to claim another's skills as your own because you had a means of exchange to do so is unfortunately the way of the world. The company that built the hull was quick to point out they did so. As I stated, the part she did was very good and it achieved her overall goal. I would be interested to know if she gave the station and lofting plans to the hull builder.
Very smart lady to arrange her life this way.
Hello Connie I'm impressed with your comment, What part of the world are you from?.. Costachel.
I wonder how well the boat was insulated as well - maybe better insulation would result in a more comfortable space for a larger amount of the year.
yeah, more panels and a blower assisted diesel heater are called for here.
@@redwolfexr Diesel heaters are expensive to run though, and depending on mooring location, diesel may well not be accessible very easily. Solar panels are a great idea, although vandalism on the towpaths is unfortunately always an issue…
@@Chanel95-d6u depends on your definition of expensive. Diesel is much cheaper than propane for pure heating. More importantly you heat the smallest area you can. Even a blanket wall holds in a ton of heat.
@@redwolfexr Yes, have used a blanket wall - it’s amazing how much difference blankets or thick curtains can make. I can’t comment on the propane/ diesel options as I haven’t looked into propane, except for hot water and cooking.Theres always something more to learn…
