I use mine professionally here in Utah. I do landscape but it's fantastic for street photography too. It's a steal. And super underrated.
This is THE BEST travel DSLR ever made, and even better than many mirrorless. I own an EOS R and a 5Dsr, but for travel I still reach for the 6D that I bought in 2012.

Yes, clients are unlikely to know anything about camera gear, so when they see a big camera setup, they tend to feel like it’s more professional
Nice video well done, I am a professional working photographer in Los Angeles and I use the 6D all the time for magazines catalogs posters etc. its always been helping me make a living in photography my advice to anybody is keep your overheads down clients really don’t know what kind of equipment you use!

The 6D is one of those seriously underrated cameras. The IQ is amazing. It outperforms the 5D MKIII. I agree, it’s not for sports or fast moving wildlife. For landscapes and portraits it is awesome. At this price point it is miles better than any of the newer rebels and even the higher end APC sensor cameras, except for video. This is not a video camera. It is a great cheap option. Even though I have the R, I can’t bring myself to sell the 6D. It’s just that good at what it does well!

well said, and for night photography is awesome, and it can do 1280*720 60fps which is very fantastic shooting video outdoors.
Whenever someone says a camera is not for sports or fast moving things, I'm reminded that once upon a time 4fps was the peak for a film SLR with a motor drive attached, and that was manually focussing (admittedly with a split prism in the viewfinder - those should come back!). They didn't just not take photos of sport back then. If it was good enough then, it's fine for me.
I have two canon 6d with Sigma 50mm 1.4 art and Sigma 24-35mm f2 art that I used for weddings from 2014 up to date. I can't find reasons to upgrade since I've been used to shot manually. As long as it is competitive and my clients are happy, then no point selling it and upgrade to the latest.
I am not sure if still use 6D. Is there is any focusing issue with Sigma 50mm f1.4? I am think of having one. Thanks in advance.

I just bought a used 6D for under $400 in 2024 and I’m digging it! It’s my first full frame. So glad I got it. Images are very nice.
Very helpful, especially since I just got my first full frame camera, a 6D. In fact I bought 3 Canon cameras from a self proclaimed media technician. Each came with Canon branded bags, lenses, batteries, chargers and extras. The other cameras are [like new] Rebel T6 and a Rebel T6i all for $1000. Everything was obviously well cared for, showing little if any use. Prior to this purchase I own a Canon 70D. Thanks for the review and what I can expect to use this camera for.
@@JustinMyersPhoto Mostly studio stuff, items we sell on the internet. However, I want to expand into other areas, outdoors, landscapes, skies, birds, foliage and maybe some macro stuff too. I'm still on a learning curve, I have many irons in the fire.....

Hey Justin! I'm looking to upgrade from my 1200D to a second hand 6D however I do realise it comes with certain barriers such as the non flip screen and autofocus. Would you recommend me purchasing it as I am getting it close to 640$? I tend to shoot food and portraits a lot and want to completely dive into freelancing at this point and need a steady cam that I could rely on atleast for the next 2-3 years. Additionally, is the 6D very different from the 6D Mark ii or the 80D? I love the 80D but want to settle in only for a long lasting full frame cam and the 6D Mark ii is a bit above my current budget, however I wouldn't mind upgrading on to it if it will serve me well! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

My last full frame camera was film EOS Elan 7 so .... Yes it has been a while.
I couldn't be happier. My 28-105 EF lens fitted like a glove.
Today I added Sigma 150-600. Can't wait till Spring comes ....

I consider myself a serious hobbyist and been using it for a couple of years with a 16-35 f4L and 28-300 f3.5-5.6L and have done published work with it. I don't do sports or video.
@@JustinMyersPhoto I like to shoot sreet but get very little opportunity. I mostly shoot friends and family events, some travel, decaying buildings and unique buildings and indusytry such as farming, construction and factories.
Bought a 6d 4 months ago with 151k shutter for 53000 pkr, 350$ and its amazing.
same thing here, 300euro december 2021 , 150k shutter . still working good

I have used 6D to shoot basketball games. Just like old sports photographers, you make up with it with skills. I decide my markers and focus there and just shoot when the players are there. I may have less pictures than the other guy but I have got the picture that I want anyway.

@@JustinMyersPhoto nature or wildlife, but I’m a beginner. I really haven’t find a specific type. I want to capture photos that speaks to the life energy in people when they see the images. Something that brings them to the present moment. No sure if that makes scene

Just snagged one with under 10k shutter count a cheapie "all around" lens and a Flash for about $600. Upgrading from a Rebel sl1. Mostly Landscape Photography and pics of my kids etc.

do you think it will be good enought for streets. im not a pro. I like to do streets and portraits and I really want a cannon dslr and these have been comming out for 2nd hand for really cheep so im considering it
If you need better autofocus and don't mind worse (but still good) image quality maybe look at an 80d
Im about to buy one tomorrow upgrading from a 1200D ill get it with a sigma 50mm f1.4. Is this a good choice?
@@JustinMyersPhoto HEy it will be around 1000 Euros with 4 batteries for the 6D a flash a self timer the 6D and the sigma lens. I mostly shoot landscape portrait and objects. Thanks for the reply
Bought 5D Mark III and 6D both total for ~RM3500 or $790. I like both of them and I am planning to do photography professionally, an upgrade from my previous rebel apsc camera :D
Wow, that sounds like a good price for a really great set of cameras. I love the 5D III as well. One of my all time favorite DSLRs.
What kind of photography do you typically shoot?
@@JustinMyersPhoto I shoot landscape and potraits mostly. Now, I’m trying to learn wedding photography. I love the 6D high iso performance and the joystick on the 5D even though both of them are old cameras. All these mirrorless cameras are causing the DSLR market price to drop, well except the 5D IV, its still expensive.
I have a 200d and looking to get one of these to try that full frame action, a lot of the pics i see look amazing o the 6d with decent lenses, id keep the 200d for video.
@@JustinMyersPhoto I have been slowly trying to build my portfolio by doing the videography for my workplace, property walkthroughs, talking head's etc and shooting portraits as a side gig to just gain experience and keep learning light etc. I work in IT as a day job but trying to slowly make it so I can do what I really enjoy. Slow process but I'm giving it a good go.
@@JustinMyersPhoto still learning at the moment, i love doing portraits hence the possible jump to a FF, I enjoy the property work as I have the freedom to get the footage I need whilst working on my own and I enjoy the editing process. Not glamourous but it's fun. Just enjoying the exploration of it all.
Just to update this, I got a 6d (eBay used only 5k shutter count!) And it was a great choice! Love it!
Well, I'm "that guy" using a 6D "for sports." Not by choice ... but it's what I have available. Part of the problem with a limited AF system is that none of the settings are great. It only tracks subjects if all are selected, and yet only the center is worth a damn for moving subjects. So you might as well just use the center AF point and crop later.
That said, for my kid's indoor tennis gig the other day I was using ƒ/2.8 and either 1/640 or 1/800 I needed ISO 5000 or higher there. If I got "greedy" with depth of field (ƒ/4) then iSO shot to 10000 or 12800. My biggest problem wasn't the gear, but decent shooting angles. But I got a selection of interesting keepers nonetheless. The EF 200mm ƒ/2.8 II is a great lens.
Even better, the 6D can store 2 focus point selections, one each for horizontal or vertical if you want. I'm going to try center for horizontal and an "upper" one (right-most, if viewed from horizontal) for tennis serves next time. Just turn the camera and the other AF is selected automagically. I'll bet money I can nail focus on the face that way if I'm positioned well.
The 1Dx is starting to show up around $1K ... I briefly considered the 7D MkII but as good as it is, at this point I'm going to retain all the low-light performance I can when I next move up to better AF of some kind. Unless ... I get a bonus from work this year, then I might just get an R6.

@@JustinMyersPhoto To be honest i've been into it for over 10 years now but it's mainly indoor car shows, motorsport events etc. I really want to try and get a car shoot planned so I can focus on the background etc and i'm in control of the photo. I used to use a sigma 18-50 f2.8/10-20mm sigma/70-200. I now have a 24-105m L F4 / 70-200 L. Recently started a youtube channel for it as well :D Wanted the full frame as it should be better for the indoor car shows with less noise :)
Confused me with it focuses right but it takes a long time. That means it's having a hard time focusing?

Justin Myers thanks for your answer! I’m using the 700D and I want to get in to full frame photography on a budget, but if the focus is worse than a 700D I’ll up my budget a bit and get the 5D mk3 (I realised that my 700D is not modern day anymore... time flies....)

This is a great review. I recently bought a really nice 6D body with a 50mm lens for $300, lol. Fortunately I only take stills. It's a brilliant still camera.

@@blackentrepreneur244 yes, you probably should. The camera is rated for 150,000 actuations on the shutter. In reality, it’s probably likely to last longer, but that’s hard to tell without knowing the exact history of the camera, how it’s been used/treated, etc.
Do you feel like the canon RP is a upgrade from the Canon 6D
Definitely, in almost every way. It really depends on what and how you shoot as to which benefits will be more important to you, but unless you shoot only still life, always on a tripod with manual focus lenses, there will be definite advantages to the RP.

@@JustinMyersPhoto I’m a novice but I appreciate the camera. When I do shoot it’s random stuff but haven’t been shooting lately. I’m not around the right people to do so. I haven’t made it to 90d status but I am happy with the cameras I have because it’s about the image and lens
@@SuperImmunologist okay cool. I’d actually say that the 6D is quite a bit better than the 90D in terms of sheer image quality for photography, but the 90D definitely has some performance upgrades as well as video upgrades
@@JustinMyersPhoto for me it’s canon atw because it’s had a laid back feel to it and can perform just as good as nikons when it comes to pictures. I focus on the lens first. I have a l kit lens and a 50stm 1.8

Please which cameras are good for sports or moving videos
At a similar price for sports photography, the Canon 7D or 7D mark II are both good budget options (look for them used).
For video at this price, it depends on what kind of video you want to shoot.

Nice review. Been using 6d for years now and it is the best camera for street photography/portrait photography. I would not recommend it for video shoots.

I also do general photography and basically anything that's worth a photograph.
My 6D I bought with 10,000 shutter actions and I've put on and at least 30,000 more since then.

In my experience the 4 frames per second is impossible to achieve in a fast moving active scene. Closer to 1.5 with my 400mm 5.6. Great camera for landscape and street.

I have Canon 50D , its old , i dont know like 15mpix , but guess what does 1080p/30 Video tho be it with hacked software and it will stream it to PC , isnt that wonderfull , got it for 100$ . But its funny how video is not Canon priority . Im going to get 6D anyways , because full frame , i dont care about low noise and what not , but APSC does use only 60% of the lens quality , and the FOV , and i did struggle with Wide FOV picture ,since most lenses are cropped and then you are out of luck , also you lose light and ending up with poorer image , so that is why Full frame .

It has been a transition to a new camera ecosystem alltogether. I had to familiarize myself with the buttons and dials. Overall I like the feel of it and the image quality is just awesome.
Currently using 85mm1.8 and 35mm prime lenses
The Yongnuo 35mm f/2. Its one of the affordable 35mm lenses out there. It does a pretty decent job.
