The Best Professional Full Frame Cameras for Under $500: Canon 5D Mk II vs 6D Comparison
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 лип 2024
- In this video, I'm taking a look at two great, professional digital cameras that can be found regularly for under $500: the Canon 5D Mark II and the Canon 6D. These are two full frame DSLRs that are older, but can offer some great quality for their current pricing on the used market. So, I'm going to look at using them both and talk about how relevant they may or may not still be.

Hello ! For a long time I dreamed of a full frame. I used to use a canon 600d, but I realized that I wanted something else. But during a trip to Kyiv, I saw an old Canon 5d mark2 in the hands of a tourist and was delighted. After some time, I also got such a camera. It was love at first sight. And so it happened that after a couple of days we had a war, but after experiencing a lot of sadness, I am still happy with my camera. Only he makes me happy on a day off, when looking into the lens through him, I forget a little about the evil that is happening now. I plan to buy another lens someday, because one 50mm 1.8 is not enough for me. Thank you, friend, for an interesting video. Greetings from Ukraine.
I’m so glad you have a camera that you are able to enjoy despite the terrible atrocities being inflicted on your country around you. Keep enjoying photography and we will keep hoping that peace for Ukraine comes soon
God bless fellow human, your doing great and this tough life

It is crazy to think at one time the 5D2 was considered the top of the top. The premier video camera, used for sport photography as well (because it was the most affordable FF option Canon had at the time). It was so prestigious to have one. It was used for TV shows. Also, the 5D2 has additional AF points you cannot see which are used to assist.
Was also used to film for iron man
One point to add: reliability. Both are cameras that work and work and work and probably you will fail sooner than the camera. The shutter replacement is CHEAP.
A pair of weeks ago i got a 6D, plus a battery grip, charger, and a 50mm f1.8 STM, a small camera bag, shoulder strap, etc, for $115usd. It is covered with scratches, dust and marks, missing rubber doors, the rubber it's separating from the grip, as the mode dial rubber too and the mode dial plate. The camera have more than 120.000 shutter actuations. But it works perfectly fine. Not a single problem taking images or video. I will buy the door flaps, the grip rubber, and every missing part from China or Amazon and I'll make it look the best as possible because that camera deserves it.
Considering only still photography, the 5D, 5D Mark II, 6D, & 7D remain the best cameras Canon has ever made.
On both the 6D and 5D Mk II you can set the AF method for the live view to Quick mode, which uses the dedicated AF sensor (the same as viewfinder shooting), the live view is briefly interrupted by the mirror moving when focusing but it's very usable.
I have both and I still use 'em for professional work.
Great review by the way!
Instant sub!!!
Thanks, these pieces of information were very useful! =)
Excellent video!! I'm looking for a 5d2!
Thanks man. I have the 5d mk ii and thought to get the 6d just for the higher ISO range. I have a few old EF, L class lens and didn't want to spend money on glass. I like street photography and urban portrait. Even in daylight during UK winters I found that without a tripod I'm not going to get the pictures I hoped for.
Nice review very informative
I picked a 5d mk 2. My first canon I was always a Nikon man. I was pleasantly impressed. It was easy to learn how to use.
I shot a wedding with the 6D back in 2015 and it came out pretty well. NOT a speed demon, but image quality is great. I recently picked up a used one for $350 for my step son. Was just missing an eye cup, which was just a couple bucks to replace.
Ya, definitely! Like I said, I’ve shot events with it as well. Image quality wise, it was great. Just doesn’t have as much of the helpful features as newer cameras would. Great find for the price by the way!
Just got a like new 5D mkii and I can’t fault it at all. It’s such a lovely camera to use, and I love the bigger size of it. Couldn’t be happier.
It’s a great camera, glad you’re enjoying it! What kind of photography do you typically shoot?
@@JustinMyersPhoto I shoot a few different types of photography, I love street photography, taking artistic pictures etc, then I do a lot of landscape photography and do enjoy some portrait work of my family members and friends. My little brother is now getting into football and I’ve began taking action pics of him, so am thinking of buying a 7D due to how cheap they are for that to replace my 700D. Thanks for the quick reply :)
@@ESKATEUK okay, awesome! The 7D is also a great value camera
Just bought my 2nd 6D. A used one from an online dealer. $400 (Actually 400 Euros, I live in France) "Like New", 2,000 shots and a 6 month warranty.
Let me just run that past you all again. $400 for a virtually new, guaranteed, full-frame !!!!! I know the 6D very well. It's a superb camera and an unbelievable bargain.
I always use the centre-point to focus. it's superb. I never use the others so I can't tell you.
I know Pro wedding photographers who use 6D bodies, and have over half a million shots on each body!! Canon build "Tanks" that just work and handle brilliantly.
They are fine for everything but fast action and fast Wildlife (although Fast Action and Fast Wildlife has been shot for decades on worse cameras than the 6D).
Don't miss a bargain. Grab a 6D and be amazed at those Canon colours.
That’s awesome, enjoy the new camera!
Bonjour
Quel revendeur français svp?
I’m looking into the 5D mark ii to take pictures of my glass art. I’m planing to pick up the 100mm macro non-L to take full piece shots and close ups. I’m planing to use a really small aperture to get my full piece in focus at once. Then I’ll shoot with long exposure times. I’m shooting with a black background and minimal lighting to keep the reflections down. My piece is always placed on a mirror for a black base and bottom reflection. I’m thinking that this camera/lens would be my best bet at some budget quality product photos. Color vibrancy is most important for me as I will be honor bound to not edit the colors after taking the shot (just a thing in my industry). What do you think? I’m new to this I’d love some advice
I actually primarily shoot product photography. I think the camera/lens setup will be plenty. My biggest piece of advice: invest into lighting and light modifiers. It will make a much big difference than camera and even lens. To shoot this with long shutter and constant light, you will probably need a basically completely dark room, which gets very difficult, time consuming, and, because of depending on levels of ambient lighting, very difficult to replicate
Surely, you can use the AV out socket on the 5D mk2 for headphones.. Has good manual mic audio level control too.
The quality of audio on most DSLRs (including the 5DMii) is not professional grade. I use the Zoom H4n handy recorder which can be plugged into the camera. You can get a cord that splits giving you a jack for your headphones too. Or just plug your headphones into the Zoom recorder. (The H4n is about as archaic as the 5DMii but still professional grade!)
Just bought this as my first full frame camera. As a portrait photographer, I imagine this will suite my needs just fine. I dont mind having an older camera, as it will just teach me to be a stronger photographer :)
Awesome! Which camera did you get?
Did you think 5d2 has better image quality /crisp image and better cinematic feeling in image quality?
Not particularly, they both have great image quality. The colors might be a little more nostalgic for someone who might have shot with a 5D II in the past, but they are actually very similar in that regard
@@JustinMyersPhoto I don't know why I feel there is something special in 5D2. lt's similar when you bought the best shoes in history.
@@the-entertainment477 it is a great camera and produces awesome images
Hello, great video. I always wanted to experience a Canon5D or 6D. Considering both as well as the 5D classic
It’s a really cool experience shooting with great DSLRs. I’ve never had a chance to shoot with the 5D classic personally though.
What do you typically shoot with?
The classic is awesome!
how do feel about the 5d mkiii as compared to 5d mkii or 6d?
The 5D Mk III is one of my absolute favorite DSLRs. When I made this video, the price was a lot higher than these other two choices, but the price has come down a lot now
@@JustinMyersPhotohow many i can buy mk3 for plz
Please help me decide!!!!! 5d M ii or 70d. No videos just street shots and travel. No selling photos. Been novicely using a t5i for some years now and want an upgrade. My lens game is weak too. please help me
It really depends on you and your situation. What lenses are you currently using?
5d all the way!
@@rubbabandz it’s a great camera!
@@JustinMyersPhoto I had a 70d and it's a decent camera as far as focusing is amazing but that's the best thing. The quality is just decent. I traded it for a 6d and then I traded my 6d for a Sony a7s mark ii. However, I'm looking at 5d mark iii that I will definitely be purchasing in the next week or so. 👍🏾😍 5d mark ii and iii are classic cameras hands down!
@@rubbabandz that’s exciting, 5D III is one of my favorite DSLRs to shoot with!
Thanks. Good video but I disagree with a couple things though. I used both cameras for years and I still have a 5D II. Live view mode AF works perfectly fine for portraits using face detection. Its not going to do well with kids running around but works for your typical portrait. Second, the shutter speed is a huge difference, and not just at 1.2 If Im shooting even at 1.8 with my 60D on a sunny day, its going to blow well past that 1/4000s shutter and will be blown out without a good ND filter. My 5D II doesnt need an ND because I can get my shutter speed up around 1/6000s thanks to the 1/8000s shutter.
The comment at the end regarding only one card slot not being an option for wedding or event photographers kinda made me chuckle a bit too. There are literally tens of thousands of wedding and event photographers who built their careers off this camera and its single card slot...The 6D is also not a professional grade camera, its prosumer. Basically a FF xxD series. I kept the 5D II and got rid of my 6D. However, the 6D is still a really great camera though
Nice, we all have different preferences and opinions on what works best for us and how we use our tools
In terms of only still-image quality, which one have you liked more than the other ?
What would you recommend for someone who is wanting to buy their first camera, budget friendly, focusing on family portraits and kids running around? 😆 I’m a mom of 3 and want to expand past an iPhone. I thought I wanted a full frame camera, but on a budget, but now I’m leaning towards a crop sensor that can keep with my kiddos. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ I love having rich colors, crispness and clarity with a good background blur.
@@chelsierust9906depends what your budget is. Something like the R10 would be a good choice IMO. It’s got the same AF system from the much more expensive R3 and shoots 15fps mechanical and around 30 electronic I believe.
I don't even want anything more than 1 af point. And i keep the camera on single shot.
I owned both. I did not like the 5D MKII sold it and get my 6D. Still my favorite camera!
Glad you enjoy the 6D, it’s a great camera!
I’ve been considering both for landscape since you don’t need speed
They’re both solid options for that at the price point, in my experience.
Is landscape photography what you typically shoot?
@@JustinMyersPhoto I do wildlife an landscape I use 7d2 for wildlife a 70d presently for landscape an an Olympus m5 but considering FF for landscape weather I can get a better IQ with FF prices are good now
@@jimbird963 okay, very cool. Do you have any full frame lenses to use with a FF camera yet?
@@JustinMyersPhoto yes I use C sensors so either buy a wider lense or FF about same price lol
@@jimbird963 ya, that’s one thing to keep in mind: full frame lenses are typically more expensive and APS-C lenses won’t work either full frame sensors
Veteran Photographers must cringe watching this new crop of photographers whining about auto focus lol
Veteran drivers must cringe when this new crop of drivers talk about needing an engine to pull their vehicle instead of a horse. We’ve already been doing things a less effective way, why would we ever need to make any progress?
Nikon d700..
That is also a camera
I got both, just this year (2022). Both are very cheap nowadays 🔥🔥
@@blizzbee awesome, definitely good value for price!
Photoshop will fix 90% of any mistake you make..
Yes, I think photographers should not even learn how to use a camera. In fact, why even take photos? Actually, art is all subjective any way. Thinking that the complete in existence of art would be a bad thing is really just a point of view. We might as well just all give up
