Did the Xpeng rep say which testing standard they used for the 570km range estimate? CLTC/NEDC/WLTP/?? I like how an aborted parking attempt is interpreted as an important fail safe. Very polite. I notice Ritz bit his tounge and stayed silent on that one.
As you may know the 001 was meant originally for Lynk & Co before the decision was made to create ZEEKR as an offshoot brand. The L&C cars that Riz and I saw in China looked good!
Suspension seems gentler in the Seal from my short drive but the braking dynamics seemed better in the G6. Insulation seemed quite good - again the disclaimer being that it was a very short drive so will need to reassess at a later point
"I think a charging speed of up to 800 volts"... is that a thing?. Edit: Just saw your clarification in the description. The sales rep needs to do a little homework and gain a bit more experience, I think ;)

The bings, the bongs, the bangs… they better let you mute those. A very decent car. But an absolute marketing nightmare. Xpeng…. Nobody proudly says they drive one…
Sad to see they did the same stupid mistake Tesla did with Model Y - with Rear View mirror placed way too low down, so that it sits almost right in the middle of the windshield. These car makers seem to forget that there is actually a very good reason why we have glass windshields in cars. That is so that we can see where are we going and what is in front of us. So nothing is supposed to block that view. With this kind of rear view placement - you can not see anything to your left and up. Think of making left turn into a lane, or driveway or some ramp that goes up. Interestingly, Tesla improved in this aspect with new Model 3 by a lot - they raised rear mirror view UP by a LOT. Sad to see other car makers making same stupid mistake with their new cars.
SUVs rarely look that good imho - it’s most function over form. The refresh Y will likely not have stalks like the 3 so I guess that’s one thing the G6 will have as an alternative
Not currently … although that orange G6 you see on the expo floor is actually a LHD Performance! I’ll be releasing another full expo walkthrough soon so stay tuned 🙏🎥

What's that droning sound at low speeds? It's horrible 🥴 Is that the regen braking? And if so, is that sound pretty typical of regen braking on others?
A lot of the features are customisable and I’m almost certain the simulated noises can be switched off as is the case in almost every other EV I’ve tested/driven
One thing I'm immensely saddend by is that cars like the Xpeng G6, Zeekr X, Geely E5, whatever is coming, compared to the Seal, the hardware (and accompany software) just beats it. I love the Seal, but no matter how much i want to appreciate it i know that the Snapdragon 665 will forever be a black stain on it. No smooth interactions, smart features you see in China, hell even the screen quality seems like they were saving money (at least to something like Zeekr). You buy a brand new car in 2024 and you get given a 5 year old mid range mobile processor vs a dedicated automotive platform one competitors use like the Snapdragon 855A (8155) that even GPU operations/s wise can perform 4x better. Same CPU wise. People hope for features to be introduced and it's not that the software couldn't be made, it's just the car will never run it. Di-Link 5 will never come to our processors either.
Because BYD is a traditional enterprise, in fact, Zeekr and Galaxy's boss Geely are the same. If Zeekr were not independent and Geely did not acquire a mobile phone manufacturer, their software would still be garbage.
Yeah I know Geely seems to have a few brands under their belt... As for the trade off, they seem to have rectified it with their recent models. It's just such a shame that their early consumers, especially for the Seal release, got the old one. Also not sure how the ride experience is on the others yet, well at least personally.
@@LudicrousFeed looking very good though Tesla needs a bit of a kick in the butt in the AU market with Software updates for HW4 lagging no autopark or smart summon after realising in US a while back for Vision only. Also the seat controls from the screen are nice

Looks exactly the same as every other SUV sized EV these days. They're all copying Tesla and if its priced similar to a Model Y then I can't see the appeal. In the ICE space you can get so much variety. I would have thought the EV "skateboard" platform would allow for far more creativity than we're seeing right now.

They have to make it cheaper than Model Y for it to be taken seriously
Can anyone confirm the AC charging capabilities for the G6? The rep seemed unclear on this very important information. Is it around 6kW, 11kW or full three phase 22kW?
11kW AC on three phase for both variants as per XPeng AU spec sheet: xpeng.com.au/g6-specification
Great review.
Did i hear Alex saying they are rolling out a charging network?
Also did you try any journey planning in the app? That to me is still a massive Tesla advantage on road trips.
Yes, because Xpeng has its own charging network
Would be great to see them roll out a charging network here … I wonder if that directive is coming from HQ or from TrueEV, the local Aus distributor.
I’d love to do a road trip with the G6 … will work hard BTS to try to get a loan car
If I buy a G6 now, Would it be possible to replace the current battery with a solid state battery once it’s in production?
Hmm that’s probably a question for all manufacturers I suppose … how modular are their packs? Can future packs be easily retrofitted? 🤔
Did the Xpeng rep say which testing standard they used for the 570km range estimate? CLTC/NEDC/WLTP/?? Other than saying 800V for charging speed(which isn't the speed it's purely the voltage category it is in) so the question is what is the curve like for charging and then the peak rate and how long it holds it for. Did he mention off camera anything about pet mode, camp mode, V2H, is it wireless AC/AA? What happens if you use the wrong stalk because driver is used to stalks being opposite programmed? Does XPeng know what they'll do if EuroNCAP drops them a star due to having no physical buttons for commonly used functions?
WLTP range quoted. Up to 250kW+ DC charging with the 800V architecture. I’m thankful to Alex our rep for giving us such a detailed run through in the short time that we had 🙏
i wish BYD had a lot of these features but the cabin is still much nicer in the BYD
Yes what BYD lacks in the software/ADAS department it makes up for in fit and finish
@@LudicrousFeed yes and they can always update the software, so im hopeful that they update it to be better and have the parking space recognition and so on
The UI is like a video game and the strong regen is good compared to BYD.
Yeah agreed
our BYD Seal software is so old compared to this
Yup BYD need to up their game in this department
Very nice - when will this be available in Australia? :)
No confirmed dates yet … hopefully by Q4?
Is the interior actually a bright white that easily shows dirt or more greyish?
Seems similar intensity to the Tesla screens that I’m used to
Great review Tom,
In terms of the comfort of the drive, do you prefer xpeng g6 to Tesla model y or byd seal?
I thought the drive quality was very similar to the Y … probably better suspension but hard to tell given the short drive. The Seal probably has softer suspension but the brakes can be hard to master especially at low speeds
@@LudicrousFeed thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Looking forward to your full review later. 👍🏻
Would love to see what apps/games are available when it launches as well as the dealership support post purchase
If they can nail the customer service part of the ownership experience, they will be one up on their competitors
Is there over the air updates? And I heard he mention UA-cam and Netflix was possible is that right ?
Yes and yes the possibility is there
Most of the car parks has bad internet connectivity, would it effect the self parking?
I don’t have a software background but logically it seems unlikely? Assuming the sensors/cameras are in a closed circuit with the processor for Autopark?
Damn, turn lever is on the wrong side!! 😆
Lol
I like how an aborted parking attempt is interpreted as an important fail safe. Very polite. I notice Ritz bit his tounge and stayed silent on that one.
I’ll stand by what I said, I was impressed by the car’s Autopark abilities as well as its limitations during the current situation
Very nice car. Is Linkt & CO coming to Australia, they got good driving range of o8 PHEV SUV.
As you may know the 001 was meant originally for Lynk & Co before the decision was made to create ZEEKR as an offshoot brand. The L&C cars that Riz and I saw in China looked good!
Tom, how do you compare the roominess of the cabin, compared to the BYD Seal? It looks a bit more cramped.
Very hard to say as I was more focussed on the drive quality and dynamics during the test drive. Seemed quite similar on first impression
@@LudicrousFeed How does the drive and ride quality compare to the Seal? And the road noise?
Suspension seems gentler in the Seal from my short drive but the braking dynamics seemed better in the G6. Insulation seemed quite good
- again the disclaimer being that it was a very short drive so will need to reassess at a later point
"I think a charging speed of up to 800 volts"... is that a thing?.
Edit: Just saw your clarification in the description. The sales rep needs to do a little homework and gain a bit more experience, I think ;)
I’m sure he’ll have his chance as the test drives start to ramp up

Joe mode?
It is dangerous to drive a car with a console control.
Too many buttons to hit and you have to divert your eyes downward quite a bit.
Unless maybe if you have a HUD?
Thanks for the feedback, I might be something worth comparing between the cars I review moving forward 👍
Not LFP battery. Interesting but with a slower 0 to 100 then a Byd seal and LFP. ….

SUVs rarely look that good imho - it’s most function over form. The refresh Y will likely not have stalks like the 3 so I guess that’s one thing the G6 will have as an alternative
Hi Tom is the G6 AWD performance version will be coming to Australia?
Not currently … although that orange G6 you see on the expo floor is actually a LHD Performance! I’ll be releasing another full expo walkthrough soon so stay tuned 🙏🎥

What's that droning sound at low speeds? It's horrible 🥴 Is that the regen braking? And if so, is that sound pretty typical of regen braking on others?
A lot of the features are customisable and I’m almost certain the simulated noises can be switched off as is the case in almost every other EV I’ve tested/driven
@LudicrousFeed yeah I figured that would be the case that you can turn off certain feature sounds 🙂 So was that the regen braking making that sound?
Could’ve been … I’d have to rewatch the footage. At some points I could hear the simulated engine noises when I accelerated also …

Nice car but end of the day it's just a car 🚗 no big deal
Just a car?! 😱
I will say though after my rant that the Xpeng does look slightly bland haha.
Agreed, the Seal infotainment system and software lets it down on an otherwise very good car
Because BYD is a traditional enterprise, in fact, Zeekr and Galaxy's boss Geely are the same. If Zeekr were not independent and Geely did not acquire a mobile phone manufacturer, their software would still be garbage.
It's a trade off. The Seal rides smoother than G6 but the UI is not as smooth or sophisticated. Depends what you're looking for.
Yeah I know Geely seems to have a few brands under their belt...
As for the trade off, they seem to have rectified it with their recent models. It's just such a shame that their early consumers, especially for the Seal release, got the old one. Also not sure how the ride experience is on the others yet, well at least personally.
Screen layout is literally a direct Tesla copy I guess if it aint broke don't fix it
That’s what I’m thinking too
@@LudicrousFeed looking very good though Tesla needs a bit of a kick in the butt in the AU market with Software updates for HW4 lagging no autopark or smart summon after realising in US a while back for Vision only. Also the seat controls from the screen are nice
Whats up with Chinese manufacturers not offering a proper one pedal drive mode though? X Pedal being almost a one pedal, but with a bit of creep?!
MG4 offers OPD I think?
@@LudicrousFeedYou're absolutely right, they do. I've never test driven an MG yet. Nevertheless BYD doesn't offer OPD, and I tried the Smart #1 which had OPD but it was really strange feeling
The exposure makes the screen look very washed out and low res.
An artefact of the lighting and the digital zoom required in post. It’s actually a very high res screen … will do another walkthrough if/when I get a loan of the car!
@@LudicrousFeed okey dokey thanks
Is the adas as good as tesla?
Seemed quite good in the short drive that we had. Will need a longer test to be 100% sure
@@LudicrousFeed autopilot is one of the main features I love about tesla. I drove a Kia the other day and was shit compared to tesla...it makes my drives so stress free and I know the limitations . Everyone is just trying to copy tesla UI but doing a shit job of it..maybe they will refine in a few years ? Look at Volvo how incomplete it is. Look at Toyota with its 2000s ui
XPeng has one of, if not the best, ADAS in China. Not just for its scope, but also how human-like it is. However, it tends to be more conservative compared to others when faced with high-risk situations.
Less comfort technology to keep these cars at a lower price.

Something something imitation and flattery? 😁Jokes aside the Model Y is a very good car so I can see why the Chinese brands are trying to imitate the best

That’s why we need to test these features in the real world!

Very boring car Tom !
I made a similar observation during my trip to China earlier this year (2024) … it’s getting difficult to differentiate between some of the newer EV brands … how do they win us over as consumers?
this is why there has been a price war going on.
