    Not my favorite when I see it on the road here in China, but definitely a more compelling offer than MY. I was impressed by the noise insulation demonstrated in your review. Here in China it comes with highspeed and urban self driving, urban only works in some cities. We also get real leather in the Max version and warranties are basically the same as Tesla, 8 years/160.000km for powertrain. The glass roof gets hot in subtropical climates, people here install sunshades that simply clip on. There's an aftermarket electric one for MY that seems to get popular too, MY is insanely hot in summer here without one, hopefully this gets adapted for the G6.
    One thing I think you should have mentioned is that the G6 comes with 2 Lidars and huge computing power thanks to 2 NVIDIA Orin-X and 12 cameras (no Lidar and 8 cameras for MY), so on paper at least better hardware (I think) for self driving once the software delivers. You can get the car to self park while standing next to it by tapping the side blinker camera three times, useful in case the space is tight.
    Going to visit the dealership this week and try to decide between the G6, the Geely E8 and maybe still the MY, although they're already listed in order of preference before a test drive.
    Excellent review, greetings from Zhuhai !

    1:20 for optimal EV range (lowest rolling resistance) the wheel should have a big diameter and very narrow width to achieve the same contact patch. This minimizes the change of contact patch per distance traveled which is where much of the rolling resistance comes from. BMW i3 is a good example of very narrow but relatively large diameter wheels. Danke Thomas and team, for another fun video!

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  22 дні тому +5

      Indeed! Large diameter but small width would be best range but then again handling and safety also play a role

    I love this car. I like the black trim around the wheel arches and the clean, minimal interior with no piano black, yet some physical buttons. I feel the established brands have become very arrogant in telling us what we want in a car. We've been begging for buttons, no shiny plastics and clean designs but designers keep giving us the opposite. I was skeptical about Chinese cars, but this is lovely.
    I can never support Elon Musk's Tesla - his politics, racism and nastiness will never see me supporting his products.

    Wow. This was a very thorough and great review of this car. It is priced quite nice and the standard RWD is plenty for most normal people and there is absolutely no need for performance or awd in daily use for most ppl (i live in a country and area with LOTS of snow in the winter and i have never ever needed awd for anything in the last 30 years). Price here is 33385 euros for the RWD including fire orange + electronic tow hitch and light interior so the prices here are very good on this car (NORWAY)

    Having driven both G6 and MY - G6 (Sachs suspension) beats the MY in handling bumpy terrain and interior quality & design plus seat comfort. Exterior looks are subjective (though G6 has ultra slim front and rear lights). The drive in the Tesla is more direct and responsive whilst the G6 seems less direct but just as responsive (regen mode is available). UI are similar (NVIDIA vs AMD). G6 self parking works well (driver can be outside the cockpit) as does the point-to-point self driving (switching lanes and speed adjustment without driver input except hands touching the steering wheel).
    Guessing that the Juniper refresh is similar to the Highland and that many potential buyers including myself are weighing things up.

    Styling is mixed.....looks like a Kona with Lexus bottom. Kidney intake with lights embed is so so. The rear is a Mazda 3. The piano black trim is dated. I'm not sure why auto manufacturers think it's cool to have a shiny two toned vehicle. Waiting for this trend to end. The wheel well arches are nice. Looks like another me too product. Not sold.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  23 дні тому +2

      Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
      You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ua-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/v-deo.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
      A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ua-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/v-deo.html
      And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ua-cam.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/v-deo.html
      New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ua-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/v-deo.html
      More and more natural materials are rising: ua-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/v-deo.html
      Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: ua-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/v-deo.html
      For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ua-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/v-deo.html
      Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
      Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest:
      www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html
      In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars.
      We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
      For a great insight into sustainability in the automotive industry, you can also check out our extensive documentary:

    Great and detailed review as usual. Maybe I am impatient, but I can't understand why the 2nd generation of LFP batteries are not incorporated in more of the newer EVs. They are supposed to be virtually non-flammable, higher energy density and possess much quicker charging time. Even when the manufacturers use the 2nd generation of LFP batteries like Zeekr, the size of the battery is still quite small.

    Hi Thomas when you review Chinese cars imported for the European market why are you not mentioning the lack of cooperation between the manufacturers and repair/certification agencies? In the UK a number of the manufacturers are importing the cars but not engaging with Thatcham, who help certify and train repair procedures following accidents. As a result consumers buying the new cars are unable to obtain insurance: the cars are uninsurable. They might be better than the model Y but if you can’t get them insured they are paperweights!

    The standard range seems fine pricewise because of its fast charging, but the LR versions comes too close to the MEB cars of VAG. And the driver assists of VAG is much better than Xpeng´s. Plus you get matrix lights and HUD.
    The overall costs of ownership comparing a G6 LR with a color option with the new Cupra Tavascan, the Tavascan is actually a bit cheaper because the maintenance costs of the G6 is rather high and frequent. Factor in the resale value and the G6 turns out to be quite expensive.
    Also i do agree with the steering. Its quite unengaging and the car really is just an A-B kind of car. Going from a Polestar 2, its a very bland experience.

      @Colt16v 25 днів тому +1

      @@autogefuehl No unfortunately not. I just know that the G6 got 1 year/20.000km intervals, and they are not exactly cheap. Service 1, 3 and 5 costs around €362 and the rest are between €600 and €850. Danish prices though, so could be cheaper in other countries. But the Tavascan is cheaper, being 2 year/unlimited km´s i got a quote of €470 for first and €938 for second service.
      With those service intervals and prices, the G6 ends up being not exactly expensive, but its certainly not cheap either, and when you factor in the resale value and the fact that this is still a new and rather unknown brand, i feel that it should have been cheaper than the Tesla Y LR RWD.

      @@autogefuehl Im not interested in a lease this time. G6 LR with color and towbar is around €52.000, the Tavascan with color but no towbar (ill purchase later) is around €53.500 so not much difference. I understand what you're saying about bigger wheels. However, the bigger the wheel, the better the ride comfort and handling - provided the sidewall profile is around 45-50% or more. A lot of these recent-model EV's have a very big rolling radius from the wheel-tyre package and can easily accommodate wheel sizes above 20" without affecting ride comfort.

    • @joetacchino4470
      @joetacchino4470 25 днів тому +2

      Not really. Ride comfort and handing are two ends of the same teeter totter: you don’t affect one without the other unless you’re using active anti roll bars or fancy hydraulics, or the like. And using your example, a 45 or 50 series 20” tire won’t ride as well as a 55 series 19” in the same diameter. Two reasons: more sidewall for cushioning and a lighter wheel / tire package means the suspension has less work to do because of lower unsprung mass.

    • @pjmorgan

    At least they use the left sterring wheel control buttons for something other than cruise control settings, on my Zeekr X that left knob is useless for me 99% of the time. I wish they had an update to make that customizable.
    But I least the climate control / media can always be controlled on the right knob with the mode switch button, so the UX is consistent which is better.
    So which solution do you prefer? I'd say Zeekr.

    Regarding charging at these fast chargers a long the roads…..

    • @TARS..
      @TARS.. 26 днів тому +3

      Yes they do, which is why getting an EV without a home charger is a terrible idea.
      As for the rate of degradation it's hard to know but using them for just the occasional roadtrip is totally fine though.

    • @SeeliLeck3r

      DC charging can be harsh on the battery pack, but not as much as we would've thought. You can find plenty of articles and videos online, exploring this non-issue
      Plus, I have my EV since March 2023, I have driven 40000km so far, and don't have any charging solution at home. SO only DC charging and some ACcharging at my work place, with no issue regarding the range and the battery capacity.
      Of course, having a home charging station is cheap and super practical, but not mandatory 🙂

    • @BSquare1989
      @BSquare1989 26 днів тому +4

      Fast charging itself does NOT degrade the battery quicker. The factors causing battery degradation are heat, especially at very low or high state of charge, and calendar aging. Since fast charging typically generates more heat, this has a small impact on degradation but much depends on the battery monitoring system. If you fast charge between 20 and 80 I doubt you will find any statistical difference in degradation compared to slow charging.

    when another car maker can equal Tesla for packaging in a given size vehicle, but retain as close to normal instrumentation, switches and stalks, 70+ kWh battery, they will be onto a winner. The trend that Tesla started with mininmum instruments, switches and stalks are such no, no for most older car buyers, as only economy cars of 60yrs ago were known for this.

      Can I ask your view of the BYD Seal and where you think the Expeng G6 falls short of trouncing Tesla ( notwithstanding the supercharger network that will always be Tesla’s trump card even if as network opens to non- Tesla vehicles that vertical integration isn’t there on the non-Tesla vehicles).
      For me the G6 is only missing HUD and a frunk ( a frunk I understand is available as after market).
      Discrete buttons and switches HVAC controls might have been nice but atleast there’s an option outside the touch screen.
      For me the BYD Seal’s only slight failing is the 400V architecture which only gives
      150kW DC peak.
      Polestar 2 and i4 being non-bespoke EV platforms are also rans in my book.

    A few mistakes in this review: 1.
    800V has nothing to do with how fast a vehicle can charge. The heat & chemistry limits are always on the cell level, not on the pack layout (400V/800V) level.
    2.
    99% blocking of UV light is great but has nothing to do with heat, you need to block Infra Red (IR) light to prevent heat from entering the car.
    3.
    Tesla does include most assist features and all safety features as standard, except for auto lane change, auto park and reacting to trafic lights. FSD is not what the XPeng can do so not included there.

    That was very interesting. On paper it has more or less everything you could want for €57k. The killer for me looks to be the vague steering. The interior is perfectly capable and has enough proper buttons, but really does not set the heart racing. I think a lot of European brands should worry about this car and whether what they offer is worth the money. That said I would buy something from Alfa or Mini in a heartbeat as an alternative, and even save money.
