Your testing is the gold standard of EV reviews. All the other reviewers, never focus on all the practical aspects like real world range and charging speeds!
Do not forget noise level and banana box test!
At these point I only watch other EV reviews for fun but the only one I really trust is Bjorn
same! how it works day to day is so much more important than first impressions driving the car once in other reviews!
Autogefuhl is quite ok, but not EV focused

I'd love to see a G9 re-test with the new 4.4.0 software. Not 1000km but just xpilot specifically. Great video.
7 years / 160.000km warranty is also important and class leading. Its a great car. Impressive
10 years / 200.000km for Zeekr
@@evkx Wow
Same as KIA
My 2014 Tesla was 8 years unlimited Kilometers.
@@moestrei yeah, we also got free supercharging, but that was too expensive for Tesla, hence Tesla warranty is average now.
Finally you made this video 🤣 I made a sneak preview in your live stream, and love the future technology of this beast.
Thanks Bjorn as always nice video
Nice video as always 😁💪🏼
Thank you for testing all those cars in such a thorough manner all the time.
Could you please make a video on all the comfort features of this vehicle:
-Air Suspension
-Front Seat reclining to "business class" mode
- Passenger Screen and watching Video/UA-cam while driving
- Back Seat comfort
- Camping mode
Havent found any Review yet which shows these points in depth.
On the IAA in munich i was able to sit in the car, but the infotainment was only in showroom mode :/
I would have to put a piece of tape over that flashing 110 kmh warning 😂
I love how he tests in a fun way and including the sound system
There should be an "European mode" with no irritating sounds.
The sounds are there because of European laws.
Isn't it ironic its EU law that mandates all the irritating noises but its Europeans that hate the noises the most!
Only the speed warning sounds which you can turn off. @@emilun77
It's almost like you were suggesting some kind exit 😮😉

Ordering a performance in coming weeks, drove the G9 today, you get sooo much for the money especially here in Sweden.
2:45 it’s not good in Europe. But in China it’s level 4 now. In city and on highway. And works flawlessly
The slow acceleration to high charge-up speed is to protect the batteries from unnecessary degradation.
Great review as always. That charging is insane. As you said only Lotus charges faster in theory . (hope to see in practice soon in a review from you)
Hey Björn, a big beta update (4.4.0) was released just now. I think it addresses almost all of your concerns. Pretty much all bings and bongs can now be switched off and the car seems to handle way better while using X-Pilot. Not slowing down as bad in curves, adapting to people overtaking you way better, no bings and bongs, etc. Would be cool to see your impressions again, maybe compare it to Tesla FSD in Europe.
The big question will be whether X-Pilot is now just a gimmick that's too annoying or a feature to really consider when buying the car.
Agree!
Agreed, nice to see a test. I see industry experts and a Tesla employee wager that FSD europe wont happen until after 2026 - and that’s not even a guarantee.
The legal system is too regulated, no automated actions allowed (lane change, off ramp, reroute, basically everything required)
alpitronic Hypercharger HYC_300 is always exactly 300 kW, each power stack is exactly 75 kW. Also on market is a new HYC_400 while visually indistinguishable do have 100 kW power stacks so can push 400 kW out. There are no 87.5 kW power stacks. Those on video are certainly HYC_300. Depending on how the CPO specifies them, they can have cables anywhere from 200A to 500A water cooled. You can tell only by looking at the nameplate.
Alpitronic are made in Italy
Then the problems Bjorn could have had were the cable and the bottom SOC speed on that model car.
it's purely the car issue, I suppose there are voltage cutoffs,
Pretty big update coming this month (March 2023). The beta for it just released. It will seems to solve pretty much all the software complaints in on go. Now to see if they can deliver.
Maybe try the car again when it's released?
It features:
- Bluetooth sound quality improved.
- Battery capacity can now also be displayed in percentage.
- Charging stations in navigation can now be filtered by charging capacity.
- German language setting is now possible.
- Fewer disclaimers for apps.
- Improving the translation of functions in Dutch and other languages.
- DSM (driver monitoring system) can now have 3 different sensitivities: low/normal/high. High is what the standard was before the update.
- LSS (Lane support system): number of warnings significantly reduced to the most necessary and legally necessary. Less vibrations on the handlebars.
- IHB (intelligent high beam): Should be more precise, turn off the lights earlier to avoid annoying oncoming traffic. Should be better on highways too.
- X-Pilot ACC (adaptive cruise control): should work more "smoothly", less braking by parked cars at the edge of the street. Also improved logic in processing speed limit changes. Now automatically maintains speed when switching from LCC to ACC by steering movement.
- X-Pilot LCC (Lane Centering Control): Traffic light detection has now been added and appears at the top of the driver's dashboard. Optimization of acceleration and braking, so less slow acceleration and less sudden braking, even when drivers merge in front of you into your lane. Also less delay in corners and less chance of the system switching itself off.
- ALC (automatic lane shift assistant): Feedback has been improved and timing of acceleration after the lane change has taken place has been improved. ALC should be able to be the primary means of lane changing on the highway.
- APA (intelligent park assist): Has become better at parking in spaces. Better comfort due to fewer sudden movements during parking. Better at parallel parking on roads and also in narrow streets. Less time switching between forward and reverse during parking movement.
- 360 degree camera: tires are now visible under the chassis. Transparent chassis has been improved. Steering direction and tire position can now be seen in real time. Optimization of the driving direction in 360-degree view to prevent parking damage.
- Beeps: fewer beeps and visual notifications during X-Pilot with ACC, X-Pilot with LCC and ALC while driving. A more peaceful and user-friendly driving experience should be the result.
- Air conditioning: anti-dust function starts earlier, reducing the risk of air conditioning and window damage.
Well under ideal conditions charging at IONITY, the G9 and all other 800v cars fall flat on their face if you drive to the south of France, it will be a lot slower than 10 hours, it will probably more like 10:20 or more. I experienced this myself, only needed to stop 2 times 35 minutes to drive to south, the 2 times I stopped the 800v cars were slower charging, because of power limit of 175kw or a 300kw being shared ... the IONITY's to the south are all so busy you need to wait before you can charge, so that is a hassle. I had no issues, with the iX I stopped once at IONITY, was full and waiting line, next Totalenergies was empty, 20 stalls! So as long as most 800v cars have a weak onboard converter, yes I'm looking at you Eletre, 80kw??!!! a 400v will be as fast or faster depending on real world use for people driving to the south ...
You're funny lol and that cat sounds like a video game with all the beeps🤣🤣
"Maybe that shit works over in China, but over here in Europe, *NEIN!* "

Would love to some videos with the RWD standard range - especially in winter since its LFP. I think its the best buy
I agree. That _would_ be interesting. Please consider it, Björn!
I would say it is very difficult to get another model. It is not for selling in EU right now.
I agree - would love to see some content on the Standard Range
Thats not true, standard and long range are selling eu, atleast in Norway
Selling in sweden too
Haha neeein. You are great Bjorn.
I only watch these to hear Bjørn say "NEIN! NEIN! NEIN! NEIN!" 😂
Have followed the live stream as well. Wery interested in this car. Great video! Thanks! 🎉 Waiting for zeekr 001 comparison video 😊😅
Game over😀... That is a big complement
Just into the video and had to comment at the part where you're charging the first time and you wonder if the car is coldgating. At around 6:50, you can see on the bottom of the screen that the option "Low-Temperature Battery Preheating" is switched off, so that might explain one or two things. Maybe you pick up on this further in the video, but I paused it to write this comment.
Nope. That feature is for precondition while stationary.

@@LittleSpot oh so funny
If this hyper-fast charging doesn't kill the battery in a couple of years then it is really awesome.
Search for the recurrent ev fast charging study! No effect on overall degradation for the studied evs which did 90% home charging vs those which were almost exclusively dc fast charged over 90% of the time. 😎
@@4literv6It's not about the speed, it's about the temperature. So if they can properly cool it, it should be good, but 300+ kW is a lot...
(actually thinking of it, it would be cool, if EVs had some kind of heat accumulator that would suck heat from charging and then release it for cabin heating on the road)
@ This car has cooling system specifically for battery that starts once you plugged it in
The first charge after your sleep, wonder if the battery cooled off more than when being driven resulting in slow charging performance initially?
With recent changes in price around 23:30 into the video... The vehicle in the background is the direct competition... The Hongqi.... Both are outstanding as for comfort...
Loading speed will become the new standard. From %10 to 80% in 20 minutes. Then a range of 350 km at 130km/h is sufficient. Plus 22kw/h AC. This is the end of the combustion engine.
For my family. It is already ended.
Then you have another problem, will you be able to eat a hamburger in that time, or do they have to create smaller menus, värmer Coca Cola and not that hot coffee?
I think many BEV users today check news, read emails and write SMSs today, and then the time is flying, unfortunately.
You mean... Then end of one of most important Europe economic pilars. So many will lose there jobs...
Can you compare the comfort(suspension) and noise level to the Hongqi HS9?
The charging speed of the g9 is insane, and efficiency is pretty good as well considering the car size. Just imagine what this powertrain could do on a sedan.
read: G6, and future version of P7
is loading so fast good or bad for the battery?
@@miketan373I had the same thought. Usually slow charging is best for a battery.
And having the kids go "are we there yet?" is not getting reduced by having to stop for 40 - 60 min every time you need to charge. :)
How many hours driving are there on a full battery?
Very good video, raw stuff.
Yea this car charges really good and fast. Regarding the noises yea the ding dong is too much at times but when you are in China there seems to be car always trying to go over you - guess that helps 😅
Hello and thanks 🙏 for the detailed feedback of the car, is there any percentage of the fill level of the battery , and how is the difference between the km numbers WLTP and the real distance… regards Alexander
Tack!🌹🙏
Thanks for another great video! How do you rate the sound system? Are you posting a review of it?
The sound is very good, he has 22 speakers, the bass is strong, the high frequency is also good, I think the only drawback is that the voice is not particularly prominent, but the whole is still good
What about the sound system? Is it good?
It’s going to be interesting to see how the battery holds up after 5-7years. Please to a battery test after 12 months and 36months.
Remember that it's most unlikely that people would use this fast charging that often.. It's only for the longest trips. It's important that it has the feature, but if it's not used that often, it shouldn't result in degrading the battery.
@@londonwestman1 Well but People who dont charge at home or work, will charge at the Supermarket or other places.
And there are more and more HPCs there so you cant really choose to charge slower.
Thats my problem with my Model 3 it would be sufficient to charge at 100kW or 80kW but it charges as fast as possible and heats up the battery for that.
@@MrTechfreak95 You can decrease the max charging level in TM3? Or nor? :O
@@jozefputirka1137 charge level? Yes between 50 and 100 percent.
But charge speed on DC no, it takes what it gets.
First, we need a standard to strictly define what is battery degradation, and China is in the process of developing such standards
Another great comparison video, both great cars.
One thing I would like to clarify is the IKEA box test.
It’s my understanding that to drive legally the driver should be able to see out the rear window (which the Tesla cannot legally do) so the Ariya should win the box test with the electronic rear view mirror enabling them to drive legally
Correct me if I’m wrong
Thanks, all the best
Alan
First of all, it's not IKEA boxes. Those are banana boxes. And the banana box test is to measure space. It's not meant to be driven like that.
Any idea what kind of main headlamp it is? Does it have laser / matrix function or adaptive ??
I notice that the display while charging said "Low-temperature Battery Preheating Off" - would that have affected the initial battery temperature, or is that a different setting just for *extreme* cold weather?
That feature is for preheating battery while parked.
I am still waiting on the zeekr.001 140kwh 1000km challenge😊
Logic says it will win because only obviously need one charging stop.. but overall.. at a 5000km challenge it will be very low on the list...
The charging could be much faster in China... It is limited in EU. And the sound can be muted btw. not sure whether they are disabled in europe.
Exactly this
10:40 Hahahaha STOP in Norway is STOPP
The cruise control dont slow down in curvs/swing anymore. The more EU/Norway versjon of the cars software now.
So in the charging status screen it shows 'low-temperature Battery Preheating' is switched OFF. Why is this @teslaBjorn ? Did I miss something?
That feature is for precondition while stationary.
I like the "slows down like a Toyota driver" 😂 an exaggeration though coz nothing can drive more slowly than a Toyota driver! 😅
background music is cool 😎
I stopped at a 250 kw V3 Tesla charger with 10.9% the other day and thought getting 246kw was the Mutts Nutts. I think I might swap over km from miles so I have the illusion of more range and faster charging!
@@BabyKermit_ Yes as long as the V3 stalls locations are opened up to non Tesla, in Europe it is all the same plugs. So I see no reason why a G9 cannot be charged, as long as the owner has a Tesla account on their phone. A V4 charger accepts tap and pay debit and credit cards so may not need an account.
NEIN!!! Totally agree!
arent these the standard and longrange rims instead of the performance rims?
One of my raletives has Xpeng, and it was not noisy to me?? We drove like 500km stright
Such a battery in an efficient car would be awesome!
Wait for the G6. Or go with G9 standard range.
Would love when you test drive Nio EL6. It's a more comparable model to G9.
you know there a li auto mega from China which has a peak power at 500kw and can do 10-80% in 11mins
为啥你们那么关注中国电动车😂,我们的企业想进去你们国家太难了
Usually batteries charge like that, slow in low %, fast in the middle charge and slow when close to full. Phones do the same. To travel the fastest try to always charge with more than 20% and stop at 80%.
I wonder when u get your hands on a BYD Seal?
@7.37, it says low-temperature battery preheating off.
The charging rate by itself needs to be calibrated against the efficiency . How much range/period of time in the 10%-80% window.
I cam deep *hahahahaha* I love your videos !
There’re no irritating sounds in China, possibly because XNGP is not fully supported in Norway at the moment?
Seems to be range calculation based on real soc, which is connected to real voltage. Lithium ion batteries always have a nonlinear voltage drop over soc. Looks like they did not block some capacity from use and gave customers full control in the hopes they will not completely empty it.
Very good for range testing, not ideal for new customers which will freak out the first times they get really low. Otherwise one explanation why power was reduced early into the charge. Current will have been limited to avoid battery degradation. European cars would likely not do it like that.
As for the alpitronic hyperchargers: maximum power is voltage dependant. 350kw may be possible at peak voltage, which is between 920 to 960V. The CCS Connector is rated for maximum 500A of current. This is a hard limit. Only lucid and maybe rimac would be able to get 350kw out of that charger at the time of writing this.
As for power reduction and bounce back at higher soc: in combination with the cooling system going full blast that looked like a battery temperature related limit. This reduction will increase with rising ambient temperatures.
Will it have a ski hatch?
Nice🎉
OMG Circle K is in Norway???
Do you know when you can do range test and 1000km challenge with the Highland? best probably in spring so that is has chance to make #1 🎉
Not yet.
20:32 doesn't sound like car reviewing to me LOL
What kind of car is this? It doesn’t say on your video description
Ausgezeihnet video !
Now that's a big improvement over my id3 82 kWh, the most I ever got was 60 Kw which is quite depressing.
I could live with that... It's a shame the car isn't sold here stateside.
@@FirstLast-rh9jw Are you referring to my 82 Kwh id.3 ?
I have 71.6 Usable Kwh at almost 67,000 Kms and 2 years old, new was around 73.5 Kwh so that would show a loss of around 2 Ah or around 2.5%.
The Id3 82 Kwh offers around 73.5 Kwh when new so it has a very large buffer and in a way it annoys me that I pay for 82 Kwh battery and can only use 73.5 Kwh when new. I understand a buffer is needed but VW annoy me by constantly trying to make you charge to 80% which I find unnecessary with such a large buffer. Having said all that, I really need to take a reading of the battery health when it's around 20 Deg C but that's very difficult to achieve in Ireland but as the battery gets colder it's not able to store as much energy.
60 Kw Charging is a pain in the ass in reality, it's not much better than my 2015 Nissan Leaf 28 Kwh, 21 Usable.
You have to be plugged in at around 10% or less to achieve 130 Kw and that's with a warm battery which in Ireland is never going to happen, even in Summer here the temps can get to 8 deg C or less, that's 46.4F and more than enough to ensure a cold battery when away from home without being able to preheat the battery even though it has a battery heater.......but VW are not alone in that regard.
I would never again buy an EV that can't charge at over 200 Kw + Winter and Summer.
I had high hopes for VW ID cars but DC charging lets them down badly in my opinion.
A European Diesel can get you 900+ kms any weather and 5 min refill or less at 60+ Imp MPG. That's 3 times the distance of my 82 Kwh 71 usable Kwh EV that takes much longer to charge and means you'd need around 200 Kwh battery to give similar range, impossible due to weight.
Wow, and with such a big battery. That must suck.
@@Jajalaatmaar When I need a fast charge yes it does suck big time, the 82 Kwh is capable of around 130 Kw when up to temp which is unlikely in Ireland ever and at a very low charge level. But at 20% plugging in I have never seen more than 60 Kw, however I have not yet fast charged with the new 3.2 software which was supposed to up the charge power.
One advantage of the big battery id3 is that I don't need to fast charge much at all. Living in Ireland means you can't drive too far anyway without landing in the sea which has big disadvantages because we're cut off from mainland Europe.
Even though Ireland is a small Island the public DC charging network is complete and utter shit.
@@Jajalaatmaar I did a test today, first since the 3.2 update and most I saw was 85 Kw, got 22 Kwh in 17 mins. It started off around 70 Kw.
First time I plugged in at 10% so this might have been the reason for improved power because it's known that on ID cars you need to be plugged in at 10% or lower to get good charging speed.
So 10-42% took around 17 mins.
Battery temp was just over 30 Deg C when I unplugged and sadly I didn't check the temps before I plugged in because I'm curious did it heat up from charging or did the battery heater warm it up.
Temps the last 2 days are around 7-9 Deg C.

I think below 10-20% and above 80% the charging is always slow due to battey conservation.....
That's a looong hood. Is it the engine? xD
that is quite insane charging rates, but you have to ask yourself the effect on the lifespan of the battery and also what increase in risk of fire/damage, that high a voltage and amps there has to be some increase in risk of overheating or accidents somewhere along the line, can you feel heat in the wires anywhere?
even at those crazy rates its 40min or more to charge
Isn't it more for road trips anyway? Most charges are done using slow charging. Though a giga charge speed does mean it becomes more tempting to just fast charge more often.
