Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Another good video, Tom. 👍🙂
Did you ask if xpengs sub brand, mona is coming? Super inexpensive. Less than the model 2 was supposed to be ( but will never be. ) top spec $21,800 US, 32k Australian.
My sales guy could only give price range for a G6 in HK The cost of the 20" Michelin tires is US$260 to $385 each. The first maintenance is free (after 5,000 km). Annual maintenance is US$385 to $500
Does it have a sunshade for the roof? Does it have non-touch screen controls for the mirrors? Is the gear control a stalk from the steering column or a lever on the centre console?
I like the G6 but my only knock is the battery selection. The models available in HK are RWD 435 WLTP (LFP battery) and 535 km WLTP (NMC battery). I wish Xpeng has the 535 km WLTP version with an LFP battery. Another thing I don't like is the emergency door opener in the back seats. That’s why I didn’t use the H word 😅 Jokes aside, this the best I can hope for until XPeng loan me a car to do some alone time (which has been promised). Certainly a lot of similarities with Tesla but hey if it ain’t broke …

I’m wondering if they will engage a 3rd party like BYD do (MyCar?). With people buying EVs it might make sense for legacy auto service centres to upskill and take on this kind of thing. Thanks again.
Looks good , but no price , warranty terms and service information as yet. I will wait a year or 2 before passing judgement on a very new player that is 3 rd party imported. Chinese based BYD and MG at this stage make a safer bet.
Great video, thanks Tom! Car looks and sounds impressive. Would like to know how the rear view is like given the shape of the back window. Looks very small, is there a digital camera view?
I’m currently waiting for the new Model Y Juniper. How does the XPENG G6 compare to it? How reliable is XPENG as a company, and how dependable is their vehicle? Tesla and the Model Y are known for their proven reliability and superior software. Should I consider the XPENG G6 as a better option than the Model Y Juniper?
Hey Tom. Just curious what your views are on the build quality of this vehicle? I had a rider I'm my car yesterday and they said they went to the Ev show in Melbourne and he was disappointed with the build quality of the G6. He said he liked the Zeekr, but was disappointed with the G6.
Hi Tom. Two questions. Is the iOS App available in Australia yet for the G6? I looked a few days ago and all I could find was a version in Chinese. The sales rep has just spoken about the App at around 13:30 so maybe it is. Also, does the seat move forward and backwards when getting in and out like my 2023 Tesla Model Y did? That was a very nice touch by Tesla. Thank you.
I don’t have any more details at this stage about the app - we’ll find out more I’m sure. I’ll do a more detailed experience vid down the track including the seats when I get a loan car to play with, stay tuned!
A word of warning about the auto seat moving in the Tesla. It eventually wears out the mechanism. My Model 3 needed fixing after the warranty expired so now I don’t use it.
These test drives are only very limited in time … I’ve been promised some me time alone with a car once the first batch arrives so will do a deep dive when the time comes
I'm all for EV adoption, but Tesla made the 'fatal' mistake of being too arrogant in dictating what they think their customers want e.g. driver's display. The other 'fatal' business mistake is opening up the Tesla supercharging network to non-Teslas. Why would give your competitors a leg up?
Pleasure! I'll be honest my time was limited but I will definitely take note of that in a future detailed test I'll ask Paul to see what his usual consumption is ...
It appears that Chinese EVs will be arriving in force in Australia in 2025. How long will it be before Chinese brands dominate the Australian car market?
More variety means better choice for Australians. Be thankful we have a FTA with China who have been a major trading partner for Aus. Australia has to look after itself and not be a follower. Just think if the opposition were the government of the day the situation could be entirely different.
I realise this is a first impressions drive so not everything gets shown however, my concerns is so many features are controlled through the screen so much so that the passenger acts like a co-pilot. There need to be physical switches and/or voice activated commands. I'm sure it is a quality car in every other respect. One thing I noticed at the beginning was an annoying bong. Thanks for the video.
While not physical buttons, you can create your own buttons along the bottom of the screen which should be easy to find. Or you can use voice commands.
So I have a few questions. While some great features being around same price as Model Y doesn't win me over as so many unknowns. Where do you get it serviced or repaired ? do you get upgrades for years same as Tesla ? Will for self driving become an option if and when it ever becomes available ?As it's a new unproven product and brand resale may be poor especially if it turns out to have any magor floors.
As you say there are a few unknowns for now so I’ll answer what I know as of Sep 2024: - Servicing via a nation-wide centre has been apparently confirmed but not yet publicly disclosed - OTA Software Updates will be made available in a similar fashion to Tesla although frequency may vary - XPeng is developing its own self driving software known as XNGP Will update with more info as they come to light

Looks good , but no price , warranty terms and service information as yet. I will wait a year or 2 before passing judgement on a very new player that is 3 rd party imported. Chinese based BYD and MG at this stage make a safer bet.
Fair enough to be cautious. At least the product seems sound, that’s always a good start!
Hi Tom, Great Video!
Will sell your BYD seal and change to Xpeng? Which battery pack model do you recommand is best for vaule in this case. cheers!
Hmmm the better question is … Juniper Y or G6 🤔
- I’ll have to do a comparison between SR and LR once pricing is announced
Great video, thanks Tom! Car looks and sounds impressive. Would like to know how the rear view is like given the shape of the back window. Looks very small, is there a digital camera view?
Rear view was adequate, better than our Model Y. No digital mirror
The rear view comes up on the centre screen when the indicator comes on and reversing
All these are very good questions and perhaps a topic for another video when the price is eventually released
Tesla Supercharger unterstützt nicht 800 Volt ! Mit dem Xpeng dauert es etwas länger. 😉Ungefähr 100 kWh Ladeleistung
100 kW power, not 100 kWh energy
Yes that’s correct but better something than nothing I suppose plus the Tesla SCs are super reliable
@@gsbeak oh, sorry, natürlich kw☺
Hey Tom. Just curious what your views are on the build quality of this vehicle? I had a rider I'm my car yesterday and they said they went to the Ev show in Melbourne and he was disappointed with the build quality of the G6. He said he liked the Zeekr, but was disappointed with the G6.
Arguably the Geely cars have better trims and maybe fit/finish but with that comes a premium of course
The start is both an excellent real world test and supremely stressful
The cameras and sensors were helpful
So is X-pedal the fixed one-pedal drive mode? There's no way to fine-tune the one-pedal driving itself?
X-Pedal is not technically OPD, it’s just the strongest regen setting
Looks great. Get really irritated that they don't move the indicator stalk to the right side for right hand drive models. Just lazy!!
An opportunity for me to practise using my left hand and possibly the other side of my brain 😁
Looking forward when you take this car on a road trip !
Me too! I want to see how fast it can charge at the 350kW chargers 💪
280kW supposedly.
When are you buying one Tom?
Need to know the price first 😁🤑
Hope it is closer to 50k than $59,990 which sounds like what the price will be.
The SR G6 will need to be under Y RWD pricing to be taken seriously whereas the LR G6 can undercut the LR Y given the former is only single motor
Very good car
👍
The width of the spokes on the steering wheel make it a bit awkward for hand position.
Common issue with a lot of new cars these days
Tom, how does the road noise of this car compare to the BYD Seal, which is a very quiet car itself?
Cabin insulation is good - possibly on par with Seal
Thanks Tom. Did you get a response if the turning sound indicator could be reduced in the software? Cheers
These test drives are only very limited in time … I’ve been promised some me time alone with a car once the first batch arrives so will do a deep dive when the time comes
@@LudicrousFeed Thank you Tom. Appreciate your work when it comes to new EVs for Australia
Will the xpeng have city pilot assist similar to what’s in china, also do you know if it has lidar sensors in the front bumpers
Couldn’t see any Lidar on first inspection
I'm all for EV adoption, but Tesla made the 'fatal' mistake of being too arrogant in dictating what they think their customers want e.g. driver's display. The other 'fatal' business mistake is opening up the Tesla supercharging network to non-Teslas. Why would give your competitors a leg up?
Maybe there’s greater margin for Tesla in selling energy products and eventually their chargers to third party CPOs? 🤔
Apps. "It's got everything". Couldn't see a Netflix app🤣
Will be interesting to see what apps are available to download at launch
When can we test this in Melbourne?
Paul said on the drive that they’ll be making it available in other capital cities soon …
Is it possible to turn off one-pedal driving?
Hmm, just reviewing the video: I see Light Medium High and XPeng but no OFF switch …
I sense a lot of road/wind noise. And is that artificial motor noise playing in the cabin as you slow down?
Yeah I think so … I was focusing more on the traffic at the time but will do a deeper dive once a press car becomes available 🙏
Indicator stalk on wrong side . . . Disappointing but otherwise it looks okay.
Work those left forearm muscles 😁
Any word on the all wheel drive? That’s the only reason I am not jumping now
They’re pondering how big the Performance EV market is in Aus … and whether it’s worth bringing it here 🤔
Hi,thanks for review, looking forward to long range test, what was the car consumption on the screen at the end of that city drive?
Pleasure! I'll be honest my time was limited but I will definitely take note of that in a future detailed test
I'll ask Paul to see what his usual consumption is ...
@@LudicrousFeed 😊
Just got a reply from Paul
After 2631km of mixed use driving in this car, it reports a consumption of 13.3kWh/100km! That’s quite good!
Wow good consumption!! Thank you for that replying 🙏
It appears that Chinese EVs will be arriving in force in Australia in 2025.
How long will it be before Chinese brands dominate the Australian car market?
That is the multi billion dollar question
More variety means better choice for Australians. Be thankful we have a FTA with China who have been a major trading partner for Aus. Australia has to look after itself and not be a follower. Just think if the opposition were the government of the day the situation could be entirely different.
Not long, 2 years quite a few will be in the top 10
I realise this is a first impressions drive so not everything gets shown however, my concerns is so many features are controlled through the screen so much so that the passenger acts like a co-pilot. There need to be physical switches and/or voice activated commands. I'm sure it is a quality car in every other respect. One thing I noticed at the beginning was an annoying bong. Thanks for the video.
The bong was the door not being shut properly. It’s certainly more minimalistic than others on the market when it comes to controls.
While not physical buttons, you can create your own buttons along the bottom of the screen which should be easy to find. Or you can use voice commands.
@@flukeylukey7559 The voice commands are a good idea.
The only way Tesla can win back market share is to have superchargers exclusive for Tesla only.
Probably. I wonder if it’s worth their time to continue to sell their supercharger units to third party CPOs 🤔
@@LudicrousFeed Tesla will keep losing market share to Chinese brands as its supercharging network opens to all cars.
As you say there are a few unknowns for now so I’ll answer what I know as of Sep 2024:
- Servicing via a nation-wide centre has been apparently confirmed but not yet publicly disclosed
- OTA Software Updates will be made available in a similar fashion to Tesla although frequency may vary
- XPeng is developing its own self driving software known as XNGP
Will update with more info as they come to light
@@LudicrousFeed thank you
is there any word on pricing for long range g6 ?
No pricing announced in Australia as yet (as of Sep 2024)
@@LudicrousFeed i keep waiting than. hopefully it's within the BYD Seal/Atto price range.
@@LudicrousFeed oh also, if you know is it approved for towing/tow ball acessories and if not if you get the chance to probe sales people on this could you ask.
I'd like to put a bike carrier on it otherwise id have to shove it in the boot.
Nothing about towing accessories listed on the spec sheet yet … xpeng.com.au/g6-specification
@@LudicrousFeed if you get the chance could you ask the queestion to them about towing/accessories
Very nice car
🙏
Does it come with the auto pilot function?
Yes it's called XPilot
My concern with x Peng AUSTRALIA is when G6’s start to be delivered will they have a warehouse full of car parts including panels, or will people have to wait months for parts to arrive to Australia after a bingle?
Yes that’s a very reasonable question and one we will continue to put to the distributor when it comes to warranty, repairs and servicing
can we mute the turn indicator?
Apparent yes but I’ll explore the car in more detail when I get a press loan …
Is there a reason nobody has shown what CarPlay looks like on the G6 yet?
Because we’ve only been limited to short test drives for the time being … stay tuned
@@LudicrousFeed any idea if the shortcut buttons will stay on the screen when CarPlay comes up?
@@BLD999 We’ll do the real world tests soon …
looks pretty good but they really had to slap their name at the back like that
Meh doesn’t worry me. Other brands do it
Im tipping you were extremely nervous Tom.
Meh I’ve driven so many EVs now that it’s becoming easy enough to pick up quickly …
Are you able to program profiles for different drivers? if so, can you save seat position and driving settings?
Great questions, will test for sure
@@LudicrousFeed Another thing i never see people test is the Hands-free calling. Is the microphone any good? I have been in cars that have a mic but all you can hear it the road noise.
Does it comes with Heads up display?
No and no (as of Aug 2024)
Fabular range he said. Is that slang? Just asking.
I think he meant fabulous range
Indicator stalks on the wrong side I hate that I wonder if they are programmable?
I doubt they’re programable
I wonder why they put low profile tyres on SUV's
Maybe so the rims can be scratched and we have to pay for repairs? 😭 I know from experience ...
How does it feel to use the auto pilot in a traffic jam
I didn't engage Xpilot during this drive but will endeavour to do a more detailed test as soon as I receive a press car
Is there a tesla like sentry mode?
Not according to the current spec sheet
How much replacement battery please?
A replacement Tesla battery is anywhere from $A15-20k depending on size. My Tesla Model S is 9 years old ... still on original battery with less than 10% degradation. My Tesla Powerwall 2 is 7 years old with 6.2% degradation.

@@Nae395 Not interested in selling because it’s still being used 💪🙏
What is the warranty on Xpeng
Not specified in Australia as of Aug 2024
Does this car have camp mode?
Hmm not that I can see from the spec sheet: xpeng.com.au/g6-specification
Wow how much did they copy the Tesla UI!
Can’t deny it does look similar at least superficially!
is the infotainment using 5G or 4G network?
Spec sheet says 4G ... xpeng.com.au/g6-specification
@@LudicrousFeed dang,,,i hope it comes with 5G...cos from tesla app feed of live cams are so laggy.
