I’m actually shocked to see a Nova with such a straight body sitting in a junkyard! I imagine not many people visit there for this little gem to still be there. I wish I knew where these muscle car graveyards were. I would have a ball. I would be scouting for Chevy Novas, Ford Mavericks, and Plymouth Dusters. 👍🏻

This going to be interesting and entertaining. I liked the STANG beside it. I think a stop by the car wash and $50 to rinse off the years of nature plus several cases of rust penetrant.

Hi! I'm originally from a Lake and Cook County I worked in Rockford many times. Our company held outings at Byron dragstrip every year. Thanks for watching!
Long time no see my friend. That's going to be a great series right here. A chore indeed just digging it out alone. Keep up the good work! Blessings and respect!
My wife had a car just like this but a '74 model. She was my girlfriend back then. A barebones Nova hatchback in the same color. What it did have was that 350 engine though. That car never lost a drag race to anyone. Just the way they bought it. That was the summer of '81. 350 with the base carb and automatic transmission. It beat my friend's Z28 with the modified engine and a 4 speed by 2 car lengths in the quarter mile. It beat a 455 Trans Am. And it beat my brother's Dodge Demon with the 340. My Dad said it must have had a perfect gear ratio or something...maybe it was the way it was ordered. Good luck with the revival, nice looking car.
Just subscribed. My first car was a 74 Nova custom with a 250 six banger. Took out the six cylinder and replaced it with a four main bolt 350. After me and my Dad finished with it the car was lighting quick. Bored the block over 30 to make it a 355. It was nowhere near stock. That with the a 3.73 gear in the rear axle it ran the quarter mile in the high 10 the low 11 second range.
i really enjoyed your video. reminds me of the projects my dad and I would take on. I really enjoyed your digging it out of the salvage yard. Good Luck to you, and keep those wrenches turning.
I owned one back in the day those were great cars and considering what new car cost today. It's a gem. Very simple to work on and parts are plentiful and relatively cheap. . I wish I had one today. In my opinion, it's a no-brainer go for it as long as the frame is very solid.
Wow your friend is ambitious…it’s always nice to see something saved but is that really the right one to save? Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses.
I saw a hatchback Nova in our u pull it for 2 summers. They kept it for parts for a very long time for a u pull it. It was T Bones on the pass side, but had a nice newish yellow paint job, looked like it had just been painted not long before it got hit. Never knew they made such a thing until a couple years ago seeing that car. This is a great project car and most of the parts are available which makes it a winner.
@Flatbroke Garage binge watching a few of your videos at the moment. I think 🤔 I’ve found a hidden gem as u certainly have the foundations to become a huge UA-camr. I may be wrong but it seems that content creators channels start to suddenly takeoff once they get between 10k - 30k subscribers & the UA-cam algorithm kicks off n I pray this happens for u. So keep at it & greetings from across the pond in a snowy & windy England England 🏴
If it costs more to get it running than what its street value is it is something to reconsider. But if you have fun doing it and it keeps you out of the bar it is priceless.
Oh man brings back bad memories of my old Nova that had a basically shot column shifter! OMG it would jam up all the time! I was too young to know how to fix it or replace it. Oh well the police and the impound yard took care of that car fairly quickly! 😂😂
I have a 73SS Hatch that I bought brand new in 73… 350 4 spd etc etc… I thought they all came with front disc brakes, not drums… wow… this has me glued to your video… cool❤
For 1969 thru 1972, power front disc brakes were standard an all Super Sports Nova and optional on non-SS Novas. 1973-74 power front disc brakes were optional on all Novas including SS. 1975-79 non-power front disc brakes were standard on all Novas. Power assist was optional.
I like the 1973 nova the best was going to buy one in the 1980s but the rear frame rails and bumper support were shot a really wanted the car.but did not buy I had restored a 1976 nova turned our very nice drove it a while to me it wasn’t the 73 so I traded it for something else don’t remember what like I said it looked Brad new I like the novas .the 1973 was my all time favorite nova 😊 you have a nice channel here
I believe the 73 still had that "first gen" look. Backbin the early 80s my buddy drove a 71 SS nova he dropped a 396 and 4 speed into. Thing was crazy fast. Thanks for your support on the channel
My 1st car was a 1970 Nova I got in 1986 and I had a love/hate relationship with that car, lol. For some reason it went through oil sending units about once every 3 months...driving down the road and suddenly you're out of oil. I used to keep a spare one in the trunk along with 5 quarts of cheap recycled empire state oil as I never seemed to put enough miles on it to ever do a proper oil change before the next sending unit would go and dump all my oil out. Other than that it was a nice car. I sanded it down good and painted it IH black with implement paint from a now defunct store called Central Tractor. Had all the original dog dish hubcaps which I liked but my folks hated and they got me a set of "fancy" plastic wheel covers for it that Christmas (That I never asked for, but pretended to like to keep them happy) I remember one winter out of 4 vehicles in the driveway including the TBird they bought new in '84, it got so cold that none of the cars would start...except for my Nova (Was it because the engine was so loose from age? Who knows, lol) Used it to jump all the others. The tires were new, but wanting to be original I had gotten bias-ply ones from Western-Auto (Also now defunct) so that you could hear the squall on almost every curve! I kept that thing 2 years and sold it for what I paid for it ($400) and bought a '78 Jeep CJ-5. I'll certainly be watching for updates on this old girl.
I swear that's more solid than mine was.bought my 73 over 20 years ago.im in Pittsburgh pa.Mines not done .Had health issues but still at it .Hope it's done by spring summer.
There goes my thumb up just because I love thse cars, which in my country were selled as 'Coupé Chevy SS' or simply 'Cupé Chevy' as it's known here for decades. Cheers from Argentina!
@@flatbrokegarage I hope he does! And I hope that car ends up being restored, maybe not to its former glory, but good enough to be another 40-50 years on the streets. I'd hate to see it being parked in a field after you saved it after 40 years in a junkyard! Anyways, new follower. Looking forward to the next installment!
Looking forward to this. I've got a 73 or 74 hatchback Nova that nobody want it back in the early eighties. So I yanked the engine out and put it into a buddy's Omega. Strip that baby down and now here it is 2023 and it still sits in the barn but at least it has a hatch on it and the interior. And I still remember that my dad told me back then was I was a kid. I shouldn't tear the car apart. Well I got TV show was Father knows Best. Great car possibly in the rough. Hatchbacks for this body style was only 73 and 74. They stopped it in 79 for what it's worth
The 73 Nova hatchback is pretty cool. But I would have talked your friend into buying that sixty EIGHT (not 69) Olds 442. Now that would have really been a fun project. But atleast your friend is saving a 73 Nova, which is also a good thing. Thanks for the video
Totally savable, you're in the US and most of everything is available for those cars. I see some welding but nothing requiring top-notch rod shop skills.
Looks like an awesome project worth saving, but it will take more than a few days to get it road worthy (for safety), it needs quite a bit of work. That windshield will definitely have to be replaced among other things..... good luck, looking forward to seeing the progress. 👍👍
About 40 years ago, friend and I met up with some other friends at a concert and we got a ride home with them in this car. And we were sitting in the "hatchback". It's really just a trunk with no rear shelf. Kinda sketchy. :)
Looks just like my 74, first car I owned. Same color, same rust. lol One of the best cars I ever had. Mine wasn't a hatchback, but my brother's Red one was. 73 and 74 were the only 2 years like this. The 68-72 look similar, but they are very different in a lot of ways. 75-80 was a different body style and whatever that crap was that they put out after 80 was a disgrace to the Nova name. I've owned a lot of Novas in my time and the 74 is still my favorite with my 65 coming in a very close 2nd. Rust areas to keep an eye on are the frame mounts for the unibody and the rear shock mounts (shock towers) in the trunk. Good luck with the project and I look forward to seeing you get it back on the road. 👍
That is a 3rd generation Nova. That goes from 1968 thru 1974. However, 1973-74 are heavily changed from 1968-72. Many 1968-72 parts will work but many are unique to 1973-74. 1973-74 have many unique parts to those years. Even between those 2 years there are unique parts. For example, both front and rear bumpers are different between 1973 and 1974. The hatchback was introduced first in 1973 and lasted until 1979 but 1973-74 were the only 2 years for the 3rd generation as 1975-79 are the 4th Gen. Once again, 1973-74 hatchback parts are unique to those 2 years. 1973-74 Novas have a lot of unique parts that are not remanufactured and very hard to find. And the even rarer hatchback parts are that much more difficult to get. Lastly, very few 4-door parts will fit a 2-door. Glass, interior trim, etc are mostly different as the 4-door sedan was taller than the 2-door and hatchbacks. Good luck, you will need it. BTW, there were 91,012 hatchbacks built for 1973. Of those, 76,835 had a V8. 33,949 standard Nova (VIN starts 1X17) and 42,886 Nova Custom (VIN starts 1Y17) Email if you have any questions. I can help answers or point you in the direction for help.
That's some great info! There is another hatchback there. It's a "spirt of America" edition extremely rusty, but all the red, white, and blue interior is still there. Perhaps he can find some missing parts on that one. I'll definitely tell Paul (the owner) to read your comment!
Years ago a friend had a 1968 and always complained that it was a one off year. Everything looks similar but is more different than it appears. 1969-72 stayed relatively unchanged.
@@jeffrobodine8579 You are correct. There are a many number of things unique to the 1968. Doors are slightly different because the lock button was further back, the entire instrument cluster and steering column are different because the ignition key was in the dash, not the column. The ashtray is unique, A-pillar trim are different, etc etc etc.
IT'S A 1968 OLDSMOBILE CUTLESS. THE TAIL LIGHTS TELL IT ALL UNLESS SOMEBODY WENT TO A LOT WORK. I know you both said that it was 69 first time you showed it and each time afterwards. I think it used to have the trunk lid on it I'm not sure. I guess it did at one time haha. On a 1968 the tail lights are horizontal. On a 1969 the tail lights are vertical. Maybe I'll swing by this yard if when I go to another yard in one in Georgia and one in Alabama. Love you so. Love your approach. Hope you don't get upset that I'm putting this out there for you that's a 68
Lost my job and everything from being sick and this just helped make my day id drive that car every day if it ran shoot my 2005 Ford explorer got more rust lol
To be fair .. I would have had the dumped Camaro you pointed out at the beginning ... the Nova has some tricky to fix rust issues .. hmm dunno if i would have took it on .
Love most novas had a few 1969 am a nova lover except 1973 &1974. The headlights are more pronounced and it looks frog-ish to me and vega taillights. But there are a lot of people who love them and you can't go wrong with 2dr nova.
Cool project, I’m partial to Oldsmobile Omega hatchback or Buick Appollo. I would pressure wash the heck out of that before starting, save some frustration.
That's awsome what you and your friend are doing it's always better when it's someone else's money 😂 I've thought about doing the same thing pick a old junkyard car get it running at the yard and drive it home

I love a challenge, and man is that a challenge!! Looking forward to more!
Thanks for watching! Part 2 coming out Saturday morning
Hell yeah, this is a proper episode :D
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Looking forward to seeing this done.
Be sure to follow Paul for future progress on the Green disease nova @attemptedauto. Thanks for watching!
I have a 62 impala ss that sat in the woods 40 years. It wasn't locked up and i was able to get it back on the road
Very cool. I'm never that lucky 😆 they are awesome cars. Thanks for watching!
thats worth saving good honest video
Thank you, we got an engine in it, running, and back to his house. Other videos are up
That Nova is definitely savable. I'm happy to see it getting a good home and some love.
I was actually shocked how soild it is
Looks like an awesome project worth saving, but it will take more than a few days to get it road worthy (for safety), it needs quite a bit of work. That windshield will definitely have to be replaced among other things..... good luck, looking forward to seeing the progress. 👍👍
It is a handful for sure. Thanks so much for watching!
That looks like a fun place to ramble thru Bill
If you're in the area, you can check it out
I am looking for some stuff for one of my Oldsmobiles ,whats name of the place?
About 40 years ago, friend and I met up with some other friends at a concert and we got a ride home with them in this car. And we were sitting in the "hatchback". It's really just a trunk with no rear shelf. Kinda sketchy. :)
The good O'l days
He got lucky on this one. Mounts look good
New subscriber to your channel looking forward to more content on the hatch nova. Cheers
Thanks! We are working on the car today. We will be posting on both channels as soon as we can get it edited and uploaded. Thanks for subscribing!
Cool car, glad you’re saving that Nova.
It is kinda cool. I'm glad he saving it too. Thanks for watching!
Good content! 👍
Greetings from Middlesbrough n,e😊 🇬🇧
Thanks! I truly appreciate you watching.
Of those, 76,835 had a V8. 33,949 standard Nova (VIN starts 1X17) and 42,886 Nova Custom (VIN starts 1Y17)
Email if you have any questions.
The word of the day is unique, say it again unique
Just found your channel and subscribed. Nice work.
Thank you! I think this will make a nice car for Paul
DO IT ITS GOOD EXPERENCE 👍👍👍
It put up a fight, but it seems pretty solid!
It is!
Hey, it does look better out ,I like to see this build good video
Thanks! Quite an undertaking for sure
Hope you don't get upset that I'm putting this out there for you that's a 68
No problem. We just went off the vin tag. It could be made up of other cars
Wow bill. Alot of work. But a super cool cat
I'm just assisting on this one. 😆
Best bet is a trashed v8 parts car 4 door for all small parts brCKETS SHAFT BOLTS ETC.
Lost my job and everything from being sick and this just helped make my day id drive that car every day if it ran shoot my 2005 Ford explorer got more rust lol
I'm glad we made your day! I really appreciate you watching and subscribing
Great vids!!! like you're channel willl be following.
Thanks! I appreciate it
Good luck. On your trip
Thanks
My first car was a 1969 Nova. 6 cylinder. 🙂
They sure built a lot of them.
Man, look at that Mustang. Could you do a walk around
I will. There are 3 of them sitting side by side there.
Actually it's a pretty rare find, a hatchback Nova.......pretty cool!!!
Turned out to be a fairly solid car.
Yeah it did! @@flatbrokegarage
It's a nova, it needs a lot of love, and a 427
You got that right!
I agree. I think it may end up with an LS
I ❤junk yards heaven 😊a man Walmart 👍🤘🤘👌
It's a cool place
This car has potential.
I saved my 71 Nova from the junk yard. The first day i drove it i was proud.
That's awesome! Another one saved. They mean more when you bring them back yourself
did I see a 1967 Belvedere while you were dragging the nova out? My dads girlfriend totalled mine back in the day...
He just pulled that one out. It was a 318 car. Now it looks to have a 383 in it. It is for sale, but hit on the left front fender
To be fair .. I would have had the dumped Camaro you pointed out at the beginning ... the Nova has some tricky to fix rust issues .. hmm dunno if i would have took it on .
It's a challenge for sure. If you watch the second video you'll see it's a little more solid thatvi thought. Thanks for watching
Love most novas had a few 1969 am a nova lover except 1973 &1974. The headlights are more pronounced and it looks frog-ish to me and vega taillights. But there are a lot of people who love them and you can't go wrong with 2dr nova.
I'm just glad to see novas get saved. I think they need to be better represented. Ya just don't see many around here
My first car was a '74 Nova Hatchback with a 350 and a 3 speed in the floor. Wish I still had it.
They were good cars. My buddy had one. He called it "the square camaro"
We ordered one in 76 350. 4 spd posi am FM radio. Like 3500 bucks
@@gerry-p9x that's a great combo. I may be wrong but I think this one has a posi

Find rear cross, ember and gut partsrfal assy for 4 speed swap
Yard my Dad used to go to had a 77 or 78 Nova with a Prototype sticker on the rad support and an iron duke 4 cylinder.
Oh wow! That's cool.
Cool project, I’m partial to Oldsmobile Omega hatchback or Buick Appollo. I would pressure wash the heck out of that before starting, save some frustration.
It was quite a mess
That's awsome what you and your friend are doing it's always better when it's someone else's money 😂 I've thought about doing the same thing pick a old junkyard car get it running at the yard and drive it home
There are plenty to choose from here
Cool car…hatch Nova, can’t remember that last time I ever saw one.
Me either, I love the oddballs
the leaf springs on those were always broke and doing the sidewinder i had a 73 and 74 the six banger leaf was a single and no problems with those
I'll have to remember to look at those
Mine had a mono leaf but dad and grandpa put a stack in there
U are doing a great job message from Barbados
Thanks! I just hope we get it up and running again
Thats going to be a good project. 😊
It should be fun
Bigger man than i am. There's nova way i could take on that project. :)
It's a big one. Then add only 3 days to get it running is a bunch
