As well as the 73 being to have a Hatchback instead of a trunk lid. from 70-72 were the best styles, but I was born in 80, so a little bit before me but awesome cars . And I think that also was the 1st year 73 had a bench where as 70-72 having buckets. 70-72 only had trunk lid no hatchback correct ?
First of the big bumper last of the bracket bumper and those bumpers can be moved inward I have done it.... And boy do they look better The last one I done was a1973 SS Nova everyone would take a double look that knew Nova's. 4:34

Nova does mean "it does not go" in Spanish. The verb is IR(to go). When you say "El carro no va" it means the car doesnt run. If you say "El carro se va bien", it means the car runs well/fine/good. Now there is a noun, nova, which means the same thing in english, a new star, but the pause between the two syllables is the determining factor. Nova is the car model name, but "no va" also means "it doesnt go/run/function/work"
Nice..My Son lives in Tennessee, we will look you guys up for a build like this one. You guys are living the dream with the old rides.. My first ever build at 18 was a 70..6 cyl.. converted to a fresh built 350 , put in a 12 bolt rear that had 488 gears in it. I didn’t make it out of the driveway, I was in 3 gear…😂.. 383 worked well after that. These cars are memories of the past.Have fun !
Your so right saying its definitely gonna go. Those 305 small blocks in stock form may not be fire breathers, but they are bullet proof and run forever. I can testify to that as my 84 Elcamino 305 has over 300thou. and still running strong!
Use the OE parts, don't risk your life on parts made by "our friends in the East". They will last just fine. Well done fellas! I used to rock a 74 GTO , hatchback 4 speed, one of 51 made, brought back memories.
My 74 was the same color of Green inside and out. The door panels on mine were made of plastic that degraded in the sunlight, making the plastic brittle and powdery. Mine was also a 3-on-tree with a straight 6 engine(changed from V8 to save on gas). Just looking at yours brings back a lot of old memories of mine.
Bought my '74 two-door with 350 and TH 350 in January of '77 in Goose Bay, Labrador. Green on green (light green)...great fun, and fast in my world. Great memories. Had it for 12 years, then lost it in a crash just outside Newmarket, Ontario (intersection of Davis and Woodbine)
Nice video. Great job so far. Just an FYI, 1973-74 Novas are part of the third generation of Novas (1968-74) however, they share the floor with fourth generation Novas (1975-79) because the floor changed in 1973 due to the hatchback body style being added. 1968-72 floors can be made to work but 1973-79 patch panels are what you want.
definitely takes a lot of cleaning but for being abandoned 40 years it still more solid than I thought it would be. That's still a bunch of work to go through. You did a lot of great detective work to find out about that car great job. Thanks for the video.
That's some fine wrenchin! Love the ole Nova's, can't say I ever saw a hatchback Nova in real life before. I'd say y'all giving her the best chance to make the drive home on her own, just hope the heater core doesn't blow out on the way! That would be a mess!
09-Feb-1992 was a Sunday too. And those Mt Dew bottles with the glass bottle but plastic caps were only '89 to '91. Evidence looks like maybe it being put there in 1992 or just after.
What was cool about the Hatch back Nova and Ventura was you could get the optional tent that attached so you could go camping and Pontiac brought it back in the Ugly Aztec 😅
@@flatbrokegarageThe “hatchback hutch” was a dealer option available on all GM X-body cars (Nova, Omega, Ventura/Phoenix, Apollo/Skylark) As for the sunroof, it was a vinyl folding sunroof called the Skyroof. It was only available in 1972 and 1973. The RPO code was CF1 and the made just 3,259 in 1973.
Was the 72 &73 Nova close or identical, cause my Dad use to have 72 Forest Green color, and I see they put turn signals in the grill. And I see that front and rear bumpers kinda wrap around the fenders.
I think 1973 was the first year for the "large bumpers" I could be wrong. Other than that and the grill, I'm pretty sure they are a first gen front clip.

my mom had a 1972 caprice with a 400 in it but it still got tremendous fuel economy at the time. It have a 2 barrell carb on it and it ran like a dream. She got into an accident with it and in the process of bringing it back up onto the road they sprung the frame. She in turned had to trade towards a newer car in 1986. She had a nova hatchback with a poorly built 6 cylinder due to the engine came apart on 22000 miles. But the dealer said it was our fault it failed.(they were the one maintainng it) They sold her a 1986 celebrity with tbi. It also had starter issues and had to replace the flywheel and starter twice. And the head bolts broke at around 30000 miles that they also said was our fault. I installed aftermarkets bolts into it and drove till i gave to my step son and he set the motor up within the year he nevere maintained it. So sad it ran well and got around 30mpg.

I type very fast and left him all the information just now on his latest video, if he chooses to get those seat covers. It is up to him of course. He may just want to keep the seats already in his car or purchase a new one for the front and back seat. Of course they also have remanufactured ones for his particular year of nova. It is just a suggestion. I'll leave this up a little bit but will take it down later. It may be all bought out if everyone starts looking on there. I don’t know if you’ve tried it yet, but Kevin from JYD uses d-germ, or something like that and it seems to work fairly well. I’ve been wanting to try it myself, but I either can’t find it when I’m looking for it, or forget about it completely.
At 47:23 there were several what looks like trucks in the background. I know you said a Fairlane was back there, but these looked like trucks. It was a quick view, so I may be wrong. Let me know, I may be interested.

I remember back in the early 1980's a quart of Castrol 20/50 was $0.35 and gas was $0.72 a gallon in Pinellas County Florida 😮
Ah... the good old days
I don’t know if you’ve tried it yet, but Kevin from JYD uses d-germ, or something like that and it seems to work fairly well. I’ve been wanting to try it myself, but I either can’t find it when I’m looking for it, or forget about it completely.
Huh... interesting, I'll have to look into it
At 47:23 there were several what looks like trucks in the background. I know you said a Fairlane was back there, but these looked like trucks. It was a quick view, so I may be wrong. Let me know, I may be interested.
He has about 40 trucks. You can email jeff@thecommongear.com he can give you a partial list or tell him what your looking for.

That's exactly what you need to do. Take the booster back off. Put the line on and then put the booster on.

I would leave the Nova as is. If it was up to me I would install a 383 stroker in it. Would make a great sleeper car.
