Front passenger tire is locked up. At 40:23 the tire slid when backing up. Both front tires are locked because the hoses are full of crap,
I was watching that & thinking the exact same thing.
Yes definitely the front passenger side tire. Pole barn garage would have had it running down the road in no time.
I noticed that too
Theres nothing wrong with the timing it starts an runs to good to be out of time you just don't know what you are doing you just act like you do if you would pay more attention to things you would be better off
@@peteconley2874 Smarthome (the person you're commenting under) never said anything about timing. Only about the brakes being locked up
Wow, this Ranchero would make the prefect project car !! It has a LOT of possibilities !!!!!!
It does have a lot of possibilities. A lot worse have been brought back.
@@whattherust The"fish-mouth" grill on the 72 Ranchero makes it stand out from later years.
ASE master tech here. My favorite thing about reading the comments is seeing guys sitting on the couch trying to tell you what to do. 😂
This guy needs to stop before someone gets hurt or he burns down the area ..
@@Flathead19498ba Nah, good guy with good knowledge following his dream and doing an excellent job of entertaining us. By any chance, we’re you a hall monitor in school? Maybe telling the teacher on those people running with scissors? Just curious.
-- Burning down the area isn't out of the realm of possibilities... it isn't wise to fire up a long dormant vehicle that's inundated with dry leaves. He stated that there was a three-inch layer under the Ranchero, that's all I need to know! All it takes is a single spark flying off the vehicle, especially from a rusted out exhaust system, to ignite the dry tinder. Before you know it, you've got a raging fire. I myself have lit up dry grass as have a few friends when we were really young, decades ago. What were we doing? The same thing as our hosts - firing up a dormant rig. Fortunately, we were well prepared and the fire was put out quickly with a pre-primed hose... not that the fires were going anywhere anytime fast. There wasn't much grass to burn in the dirt and gravel. The bottom line here is that in this situation, one cannot be too careful. It's wise to take precautions and be prepared. I would have suggested to at least clear out the burnable material from under and away from the Ranchero before firing it up. It would only take a few minutes with a decent rake. I also hope they had a useable fire extinguisher ready although I didn't see one. Peace & good vibes to all.

PS AES master tech? WTH is an AES master tech? I presume you mean ASE master tech...
That Ranchero looks like it might be salvageable. A one off year for the body, definitely makes it valuable
As someone who lives in the rust belt, I would say this Ranchero is VERY salvageable.
Seems frt wheel is locked up
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
I've had a few Cleveland's over the past years. There is a process where you can put the Cleveland heads on Winsor blocks. My Brother-in-law currently has a numbers matching '73 Ranchero GT with a 4v Cleveland, it's 99.9% OEM, only exception is an aftermarket GT center cap on one wheel.
A "Clevor" was not uncommon back in the 70s & 80s before the proliferation of aftermarket heads. To use the Cleveland heads on a Windsor block requires some machine work but it isn't difficult. IIRC, you also need an intake manifold that will mate up. The downfall lies in the aftermarket, the aftermarket aluminum-based heads are superior which is why you don't typically see folks making a Clevor anymore and haven't more or less since the 90s. Still, it's a fun project if you come up with the heads and an intake for cheap... and don't mind doing some machining. best wishes!

Are the front brakes locked up on it?
That's the first thing I would check! :)
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
The front brake hoses are probobly swollen, not letting the brake fluid to flow back towards the master cylinder. That's a common problem in old cars that have been sitting. Old cars period. Cut the front brake line hoses if you don't want to replace them now.@@whattherust
Great video !!! My dad had the same Ranchero when I was just a kid and although I never cared much for them I loved the 351 Cleveland motor in it. Later in life I had a 71 Torino with the Cleveland in it and it was a very strong motor. You all called it right, the motor alone is well sought after and made this car well worth saving!! I also see some awesome Fords sitting beside the Ranchero!! Thanks again !!!
Thanks! This yard is loaded with Fords from the 60s. Check out the tour video I did in September. It is amazing.
That ford was too easy. I love it though. Those old rancheros are so cool. Another great video from you guys. Love yall
Thanks very much. It was a lot easier than some of the others we have done recently. The next one, in the same junkyard, is a mess, and I think it is going to be a real challenge.
May have jumped a tooth on the timing chain
Is the Blonde that does the commentating a super model? If not she could be just sayin!❤
i think the car had enough power if it was able to spin the rear tires. the front tires are just seized up and it might need a new distributor. distributors go bad sometimes. i agree with you in that the engine is quiet. i saw the right front tire slide a bit when you tried moving the car.😊
You look a bit like Mr Spock, Richard!
Live long and prosper.
Omg Richard, I love the Ranchero and El Camino. They are gorgeous vehicles ❤❤❤❤😂
Right front brake looks like it’s locked up
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
Sure acts like a front brake is locked up. If that thing is making enough power to do a smoke show on that piece of wood, it should have moved out of there. I'd look at the front brakes.
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
Seriously u guys on the Skylark it sound just like a timing issue I’m 53yrs old and my Dad had one just like it and it would sound just the same and come to find out the problem was timing all along…but good luck u guys and as ALWAYZ good job Christine!!
Interesting video. Nice; your giving theName and phone number location of the junkyard.
Nice Ranchero. Lugnut's a great kid. Please stop talking about Richard's butt!
Maybe the distributor is installed a tooth off giving the false indication of jumped timing. It may be suggested to verify TDC with rotor position and use a timing light to check and verify ignition timing.
The brakes are stuck plus you messed the timeing up ..haven't you thought about the front brakes being stuck
Richard the timing cover tells you if it's Windsor or a Cleveland. If the timing cover is flat and and attached to the engine block it's a Cleveland. If the the water pump is bolted on and through the timing cover it's a Windsor' Also if the Thermostat housing is bolted to the block and not to the intake manifold it's a Cleveland.
Thanks for the info!
@@whattherust More easy ways to tell the difference between the W & C engines. The 351C valve covers have 8 bolts. It uses small 14 mm spark plugs. The 351W valve covers have 6 bolts and it uses 5/8 inch spark plugs. Fuel pumps: the 351C fuel pump is mounted with 2 vertically positioned bolts - one each on top and bottom of the base. The 351W fuel pump is mounted with 2 bolts horizontally on the left & right sides of the base. The info provided by @rgbigdog is correct as far as I remember with the addition of the timing cover being made from aluminum. Best wishes!

@@MaxGiganteum Great stuff! I am taking a picture of this and will use it anytime I need to identify a Ford engine.
You may just have tired rings or leaking valves on a couple of the cylinders as well. But our rught that the timing chain may have skipped a couple notches or two.
It had enough power to spin the wheels. Some of the brakes are stuck on. It would have taken about one minute to take a leaf blower and blow out the bed and under the hood. That would have made better working conditions. Nice job of cleaning all the connections and checking the fluids.
Normally Ford enbosses firing order in the top of their factory intakes
Thanks for the tip.
Richard, call Josh from sleeper dude. He eats breaths and sleeps ford's. He would love this grave yard.😊❤
That is a good idea!
I use a timing light to check the ignition timing.
If your not sure about the cam timing, go to TDC on 1 and see if your distributor cap is pointing to cylinder 1.
It's one of those rare things that actually seem to go along gender lines. Guys love em. El caminos and rancheros... And women don't.
do you have that old classic car at home from the junkyard can't wait for next video just asking my friend
Richard I think you should have brought a Leaf Blower with you.
Right on. Next time!
Hi, my 54 Ford F100 has a cleveland 400 in it. They call it the modefite 351. Overhauld it in 2019 and has about 400 hp.
400M it's a 351C but has taller deck height and longer stroke. ❤
@@spaceghost8995 The 400 Ford is just that... a 400. It isn't a C, W or an M. Best wishes!

Now we’re talking a ford yesss anything for sale brother that’s a cool ford bronco that would be cool to get running
Its like you're power braking that's why its spinning rear wheel imho .
Is it a car or a truck? 😊 Maybe a cruck
Love those old Rancheros!!!!! Had a 79! Can’t wait for the next video
Richard-Christina-and Lug nut good job amazing the car still runs-and except for the POOP and stuck front tire that car is definitely a seller-onto the next!!
firing order is right on the intake! Gotta love a Cleveland. I have had a few and they are very strong engines.
Watching the video It looks like both front wheels are locked up. The engine sounds good but with the wheels locked It just stumbles when pegd. Nice video and would love A follow-up to this one.
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
@@whattherust Yea cause A few times when the vehicle did go forward the passenger front tire moved slightly then slid on the ground A bit. I don't know about the drivers side but that passenger side definitely slid.
@@SUBZEROinfinity Yes, I go back and check on this and the next video. Stay tuned!
At 140000 miles, the timing chain probably jumped. The plastic tired gears failed. Replacements are iron, much more durable.
Right on.
Amazing when they start that easy! Just got our 84 Z-28 running after sitting 18 years, spun it for oil pressure, poured a little gas down the carb and it fired immediately. Have it running smooth out of the tank now.
Nice. It is great when that happens.
Although I prefer my old chevys, it is a shame to see these rotting in the woods.
Mr. B. Here ! 👀😎👍🍸. My favorite type of vehicle lite duty pick-up , I have a 1976 GMC Sprint. People will always said what is it ( car or a truck ) well the factory classification is Lt duty pick-up . They ride like a car 🚗 when you need a pick-up you got it 🛻. Great video guys !
Hello Mr. B. I was not aware they were classified as a light duty truck. That is very interesting. Thanks for the info.
Mr. B. Here ! ☕️👀😎👍. Yes, GM used the frame for the station wagon to build the El Camino & the Sprint . Also the fenders of the wagon are longer than the Malibu. Just a little FYI , have a good day !
great find richard and christina there ain't many of those 351 cleveland around anymore looks like the car next to the ranchero is an ole '68 to'70 galaxie sweet find thank you for sharing that turned over perfect.that ranchero might be a winner.
Thank you for still making these video's with your wife. You both are amazing and I learn a lot. You kinda are a dad to me who is awsome to watch❤, much love to you two!!!
Thank you very much. That is one of the nicest comments we have ever received. More videos are on the way.
@@whattherust I am so glad to hear that, I always cheer with you if you get it running. One last thing, when will Christina do 'Will it Run' episode again?
So cool to see a Ranchero of any vintage. Just not too many around..and it looks like it could live again.
I Just Realized That Richards Favorite Words Are Unbelievable An Funky!😅
So true. And add Incredible and Cool to the list.
Did you bring your leaf blower? Looks like you may need it Lol
Your later question in Eugene's yard about the scooped hood is that it is from the '72 Gran Torino which starred in Clint Eastwoods movie of the same name.
Prolly H code good for 177 net hp, the'71 Boss 351c was one of the fastest, but had major upgrades up 330hp.
I started lots cars at junk yard because I worked there. And take it all apart
Hi
Good job
Where is the yard located n what’s up with 65 comet ??
Thanks for your time
Paul
That yard is in Dickson, Tennessee. There are a bunch of old comets there. I tour the yard in the video posted at the end of this one where I show them all.
ARE the front breaks are locked up
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
I used to have a 71 ranchero with a 302 two barrel brings back memories of my younger days
Sleeperdude stumbled upon a stash of 351C parts from an ex-Pantera racer. The 4V heads have super huge ports; the 2V heads are just large.
Right on.
Yes what junkyard is it and where’s it at? I can’t recall you ever saying the name of the junkyard. I enjoy y’all’s videoed too.
26:00 in
for all the "will it run and drive shows" that i watch....I fail to understand why none of ya all carry an electric leaf blower to get rid of the crap under the hood and at least have a half assed clean work area.....????.....but good job otherwise....
I use a portable air blower regularly, but with me being between houses, a lot of my stuff is in boxes and not easily found. Once I locate it, I'll be using it again.
I know there were some timing issues, but it looked like passenger front wheel was locked and not turning. Could that been part of problem trying to get it out?
It could be. Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
Those Bosch plugs could be a big part of your problem. I would swap them for motor raft plugs
I think the Front wheels are locked up
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
I didnt catch what Christina was not in favor of. On the Ranchero you may need to put a timing light on to check how far out of time it is. Also if someone put a new distributor on it they could have gotten a gear tooth off when installing it. Just giving you suggestions, not telling you how to do your business.
Understood Mike. Thanks for the tips.
Eres un genio para hacer arrancar esos motores tan viejos, felicitaciones y saludos a tu esposa desde Bs As Argentina.
72 Ranchero I'm a Ford man this is why I watch your show-- you are real
I appreciate the comment. We don't make up anything, and if I screw up, I show it.
Thank you keep it up
I'm a ford man to for life
One of the brakes is locked up or something
Nice car to restore. The 351 is an unusual engine and it sounds good. Just needs some TLC . Good seeing you again!
Runs really good! Lots of potential for this Ranchero, even if it's just the engine. I wonder if there's a possibility the front brakes are locked up. Thanks for sharing, Richard and Christina! Awesome work!! 😎
Thanks David! I checked the wheels and they were free. The car just had zero power. To spin the rear wheel I had to literally floor it!
Two firing orders for Ford's 15426378 and 13726548 , people overlook this .
@@davidt9292 That's right. I had to Google it to be sure which one was correct for the Cleveland.
@@whattherust That's odd... I clearly saw the front P tire skid and never spin. What I don't understand is why didn't you hook up with the truck and pull the Ranchero up to a level spot?!? Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K!

Front brakes locked up ? Maybe whomever put the new distributor in put it in a tooth or 2 off ?
Yes, we go back and check on the brakes and the next video. Stay tuned! You may be right about the distributor.
Thanks for using Cre-Oil!
Really like the 72 Grand Torinos, not as big of a Ranchero fan. I thought that it was more of a carburetor problem. You could have put your spark tester on each wire to see if it was only firing on 5 or 6 cylinders. Why would you name your son Lugnutz? And why did Christina insist on showing us the dog shite on her shoes? T.M.I lol but all in all it was a great episode. Thanks for entertaining us
Lugnut was given that nickname long before I met him, and he prefers it. He is a good kid, and eager to learn.
Yeah he did seem like a good kid, very eager to learn. He will probably take over the family business 1day. That is if we still have salvage yards in 10-15 years. Sadly we don't have any vintage junk yards around Massachusetts anymore
You need to introduce your young friend. Please
Just love the respect you show these old vehicles add hopefully someday it will become somebody's new pride and joy I've never figured out why so many people feel the need to do donuts et cetera
There seems to be quite a few 67 Ford fastbacks…😵😵👍
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws))
Germany sounds like it is not a fun place to live. I would not be able to be happy with restrictions like that.
@@whattherustIts almost as bad as Russia here because Green peoples party rules here and they are corrupt by the Chinese.
Sounds like it's high time for a revolution there in Germany... things are getting all fascist again. I think we all know what happened the last time things got fascist. I wouldn't be concerned with what goes on here in the states. The lunatics are losing their grip on power - folks are waking up and are starting to have had enough of the bull.

Yayyy buddy awesome the Cleveland wizard how do u fix a jump time Richard just curious thank u 2 for the video and commentary we appreciate it ❤ ✌ 😊
The only way to fix it correctly is to replace the chain and gears, since the valves are no longer in sync with rotation of the crank nor the spark timing. One could ply with moving the distributor a tooth, and it might help, but if the chain jumped once, it will again.
@@whattherust thank u never now Intel u ask right ?
Cool kid is a gear head in training 😉
He definitely is he always asks to go to redneck rumble for his birthday rather do that then a party
Those type of vehicle are really more versatile than you would think! If that is in fact a 351 Cleveland, I wouldn't get rid of it! They used them in the Mustang Mach 1 early models (70's) They are high performance engines.!
I agree. These cars were quite useful for those who did not want a truck.
Seems like the front brakes are locked up. Great video though.
Correct. Check out today's video. I go back and get those wheels sorted.
Really wish there were places like that up north! What a car lot! There appeared to be a late 50's gmc down the lane there from your ranchero, but I figure you woulda been over there if it was worth a look. Great video! Love the little big guy too.
Correct, there is a 58 or 59 there. I do a walk-around of it in the junkyard tour video from September.

This place has a bunch of Comets. With parts and pieces, a good one could be built.
As said, the only issue is at least one of the front wheels are locked. Some reason you never checked?Kinda surprised, been watching your channel for a long time 😊
I did check, but the camera wasn't running. The car had so little power it took me flooring it to spin the rear wheel. I think I could have gotten it out with some more wood, but we ran out of time.
Right on Richard, I had a feeling you had too have checked. Nice video again, that car is actually deserving of doing up.Kinda surprised nobody had snatched it up.Definitely potential!
The front brakes are locked up
Cleveland fuel pump bolts vertical not horizontal
Good to know. Thank you.
Believe there is low compression on one or more
Definitely think the front brakes were the reason it wouldn't pull out of there
Correct. Check out today's video. I go back and get those wheels sorted.
Front brakes are locked up!
Back in the day on your old car when your AC failed.
It was easier to remove it, than it was to fix it.
Unlike nowadays, just about anybody could do Automotive AC.
8:30, I know they are practically the same, but I've always been a fan of the El Camino Vs The Ranchero.
Probably because GM's are far better looking than Fords.
That's the last Ranchero design that I like. My favorites are the early Fairlane and Falcon style. That one is well worth what they're asking for it just for the engine alone.
My dad bought a '72 Ranchero 500 new. White, black lower body accent paint, same blue interior, 302/C4. The cluster laying in the seat is '68-69 Fairlane/Torino. Engine looks like an H-code 351C 2v. 5th character in the VIN would be H if that's original.
Great video, we had Clevo’s in Australia from around ‘’71 to ‘84. The GTHO Falcon did the 1/4 mile in 14.2 seconds!!
Sure looked like the front tire on the passenger side was stuck.
Next time I am there I will check those front wheels again. They were free, but perhaps the caliper locked when I hit the brakes the first time.
I've never understood the appeal of Rancheros snd El Caminos. Pickups for people who wouldn't be seen dead in a pickup... Having said that I quite like this one. It's in oretty good shape. What's wtong with the engine is blatantly obvious. It's not s small block Chevy... So when is Lugnut starting a UA-cam channel? Cool dude. 🇬🇧👍
I would have gone for those 4x4s at the back there. Thanks for showing us the "biologicals" on the soles of your shoes.BARfffff! Lolz!
The 351clevend was a small block with big block heads ,a modified version of those heads where on the boss 302
Rancheros and Elcaminos we always cakked Cowboy Cadillacs! I've has 2 Elcaminos a 59 and a 73 but you can't fit 4 kids in one!LOL
Nicely done guys, saving that Ranchero from it's graveyard. She started up easy It's in pretty good shape too. This old girl wants to be a project and keep roaming the roads. haha
It is difficult to say how long this was sitting, but someone worked on at some time between 2007-2012, judging by the plugs and ignition parts. It may have been running at that point. I was working at AutoZone during that time and remember when that packaging came out. Platinum plugs started coming into use in the late 90s, so it would have to be later than that.
Not the timing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Front wheels are locked up. You didn't even check to see if they would rotate. The engine starts and runs too good to mess with the timing.
It wasn't junked because it didn't run, it was parked because someone was tired of dumping gas and oil in it for working on it.
It probably needs body and mechanical work. It's pretty hard to kill a 351M.
good job but i bet its a 351M engine i think most of the cleveland motors were 4bbl.
That's an H code 351C, M code were high performance unless you mean the 351M/400 which came in 75.
Negative... the majority of the Cleveland motors were 2V. Another thing, the 351M engines weren't out in 1972. Best wishes!

If this Ranchero was "easy ", it was due to Richard's experience and know-how that made it a positive result. I believe that the previous attempt by somebody else could not have been successful. LOL Take care.
