i had some mackerel cooked by my mum some 50 years ago straight out of the sea in Cornwall grilled with a salad. it remains the most memorable fish meal ever
Finally someone who takes an awesome, fresh ingredient like Mackerel and cooks it without covering his own flavor with pointless seasoning. A hint of salt and in the pan. That's how it should be done all the time. Thanks.
many thanks.keeping is simple is the way forward.all the best. . scott
Scott Rea Nice recipe mate, one of my favorite fish. I love mackerel fried the same way you did that, with large field mushrooms fried in butter on toast for breakfast. Keep it up scott.
+Stephen Smith Must try that, sounds good for breakfast, by the way your name caught my eye, mine also

It looks good but I would not put any salt or pepper on it . It doesn't need it . Same with beetroot salad , who wants that .
Nice to see someone else in the UK giving mackeral the respect it's due. Beautiful to see them in the water, and the perfect food fish
The Mackerel is so underrated I dont know why that is, cos it is one of the best tasting fish out there! Thanks for the tip Scott.
You're right Neil. When I boat fished, I used to cook a couple straight out of the sea for lunch. Fantastic fish...
No it isn't spanish people love Mackerel.
So true. Nicest fish in the sea in my opinion. With its natural flavour it needs nothing to make it taste great.
Exactly, beautiful tasting fish

Just filleted my first mackerel, thanks to this video. That cooking method was spot on as well. Thank you, Scott.
Went out in my boat the same day I watched your video and caught half a dozen lovely mackerel.
I cooked them exactly the same way and they were beautiful.
Thanks for the inspiration.

a saturday halloe from jylland Denmark
cheers Mac, , reallyappreciate your comment mate, im trying to create actual easy and tasty simple dishes.which is sometimes what the tv chefs dont do, they all assume people allready have a certain amount of culinary knowledge but they forget most people don't although like myself we buy the cookbooks but don't necessarily cook from them, cause they can be to hard to follow , so hopefully with my channel im demystify cooking and making dishes that are simple and achievable. all the best from the UK. many thanks. Scott

like presentation, simple, str8 forward. fantastic. thank you for sharing
I'm salivating! Now off to catch a mackerel or two hopefully! 😋🍻
Mackerel! the best fish in the seas, better than salmon bass, very tasty. I should know I have been eating them for 82 years. I should say I have caught them and cooked them on the boat. now that's fresh.
Through experience I will say that this by far is an awesome way to clean mackerel. Two thumbs up!
I'm pleased to have learned a simple way of cooking mackerel and the little refrain in the end was very cute.
Excellent video...Looking forward to catching a few mackerel now the fine weather is here...
That looks fantastic! Good work, Scott.
Enjoyed the recipe for the beetroot. Cheers !
How can this get any thumbs down. Job well done. Delicious
Thanks for putting this together. Caught my first mackerel this evening, wasn't sure how to prepare it. You made it look easy and delicious.
50 years ago I gave an elderly lady 12 fresh mackerel I had caught.Next day she gave me 6 back,WOW.She had stuffed them with home made stuffing and hand stitched them up,very labour intensive.Cooked them in foil for 3 hours.Well you could heat everything apart from the head.Best fish I have ever eaten. The fish were Manx mackerel
What did she stuff it with?
@@jdlc903 not sure we ever will get an answer :/
Nice and simple!! Thumbs up!
Nice, simple, honest....wonderful all together...thumbs up..!!

TOP stuff! Simple and brilliant, Chef! Nice one. 😊
Interesting video very helpful 👌🏻🎣
We filleted and cooked our first mackerels following your instructions. What a delicious treat! Thank you so much!
A very nice and complete video , thank you .
Scott, you always nail it.
Best, simplest mackerel dish EVER! Plus fabulous un-fussy filleting instructions. I've always been one of those people trying to like mackerel, but always struggled to enjoy it, whether I or someone else cooked it. I've made this twice now, and now I agree that mackerel is delicious. Plus, that stonking pickled beetroot salad (I've been unable to get good damson jam so used blackcurrant instead - works beautifully). Thank you for changing my fish eating habits for ever...
Just got home having caught 12 mackeral this morning .
Found this video and going to try it right now .I even have damson jam in the cupboard and Beetroot Happy days
How was they bernie nice?
Great video ,thanks for sharing. Much needed information for a new to Mackerel convert and that beet salad looked mouth watering 😋
Easy to follow instructions, tastes excellent, thank you, it is very much appreciated..
We caught some 10 mackerel today about the size of the one you cooked. Thanks for providing a really great and simple recipe!
Thanks Scott, what a quality straight forward video on how to prepare and cook mackerel. (must try that beetroot looks great)
Thank you very much for your video. I’ve just filleted and cooked my first fish 😀
Absolutely spot on! Fresh local mackerel, cheap, environmental great choice, small fish not poisoned with heavy metals. Great filleting lesson!!!! rock on...and the salad bonus :-)
What A Beautiful Fish The Colors And Pattern On It Is Stunning If Never Eaten Mackerel But I Would Love To Try It
That is the best filleting instructions for them I've seen. Going Mackie bashing this weekend, will give it a go!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I will catch some and fillet them up this weekend.:-)
I’ve invested in a smoker. Breakfast of kings. Smoked Mackerel, poached egg, home made sourdough. I used to farm in Dorset. The local shoots could never use all the game. I volunteered as a beater. Came home with pheasant, duck, snipe, pigeon, even geese. . Great deal if you beat, exercise and free game. Best was in deer season. Muntjacs were great eating.
Mackeral is one of my favorite fish. Man, that particular fish was gorgeous!
It turned gold, looks great.
my inspiration to buy whole fish! big thank you as your videos make it all look so simple , i have a big mackerel in my fridge cant wait for tonight will cook it like yours!
caught several today and plan on preparing them exactly like this tonight. Thanks for such a good video ~

Scott try it with tagliatelle delicious 👍
Man, I can smell that from here! Smells awesome!
My god. Why do I watch this late at night when I'm hungry. I can't wait to try this next year. No more wasting mackerel as striper bait for me.
Wow! This is awesome! Getting back into going to the local warf and start fishing for some mackerel and flounder. Was never really sure how to cook mackerel and this video is making my mouth water! We've got tons of picked beetroot so I can't wait to get some mackerel and prepare it like you showed. Amazing video and tutorial :)
I bought some fish,an wanted to know a few trick's,,then I click your video ,,I really enjoyed watching,great info,great video,thank you👍
Great video I learned something, thank you.
This worked well for me - pretty simple, quick, and easy. Removing the backbones, as Rea calls them, also obviously removes the dark flesh, which I think is important Just had it for breakfast with scrambled eggs and picante salsa - caught the mackerel last evening.
The filleting worked very well! I did it in a few minutes. Thank you!
Nice one Deb,glad to be of help, theres no stopping you know, many thanks.Scott
Outstanding! Just started cooking Spanish mackerel over here in Florida. Never had it until recently and I was surprised at how well I enjoyed it.

Real "Man food".
You have inspired me once again. Thank you!
Beautiful!
That's made me hungry, nicely cooked just the way i like it and the crispy skin also!

Nice one Darren.ive been a butcher and fishmonger for 26 years and I'm still learning too.and there's nothing wrong with that . it's great to build new skills. all the best. scott
I only really got into cooking due to delivering meat to top hotels/restaurants in London. Meat for free and i'd pester the chefs till they'd tell me how to cook it properly. Great to find your own way and style and learn great hints and tips from guys like you Scott...even i've progressed from Egg&Chips! ;) ...Michelin Star Egg &Chips you understand..... Lol. Always great to learn new stuff. Cheers Scott.
Scott Rea hey mate, good video.. do u have to get the scales off? I have a thing about fish scales 😨
You don't have to worry about scales. They are so tiny when you crisp the skin up like he did you will never notice them. I live in florida so the mackeral we eat are Spanish. The skin is really phenominal when crispy.
Scott, you are amazing! I'm late t the party, but love all your videos, thank you so much!!!!
You made that look so easy lol. TYVM for the vid. ATB Reeco

ive been catching so many mackerel just lately , I love em, ive been eating them for breakfast and dinner pretty much every day for the past month, been catching little joeys, so sweet, three or four little fillets pan fried in the morning, rounds of buttered toast mmm, had them in sweet n sour stir fry, tried them in a bun like a mackerel burger, and topped with melted cheese for a mackerel cheese burger, fried with potatoes, roasted with vegetables, and so fresh, I live opposite worthing pier, can catch them and have them in the pan under thirty minutes, mmm, ill miss them when they are gone, wont be long now its late September, mmm nice job of filleting them good video
