I really do appreciate how you emphasize safety and health issues in the voice overs.
Thanks 😊
WOW that “turned” out fantastic! Looks like an old map. The edge with the red rays looks like a sunrise. Nice work Jim!
Lots of people saying that. I never really noticed until people started saying it, haha.
Yes, I kept thinking it looked like a map too. Love it!
Hi Jim I’m not a wood Turner, but I absolutely love watching your videos. It’s really fun for me to see what you come up with from the pieces you choose. I think you have a great guy and a great imagination. I am legally blind so this is not a craft I see myself ever doing, but it fascinates me and I can only imagine how the woods feel, smell and finish.
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
The resin spaghetti made me laugh. The ghost resin is cool looking and the grain in the burl is beautiful.
Thanks for watching!
Great platter, I also see the old world map, probably because I'm old school.
Lots of others do too, your not alone, haha.
This platter turned out beautifully! When you said the color of the resin was going to be ghost white, I turned up my nose! I love color and white is not one! LOL. I have to apologize because this is a masterpiece! Absolutely stunning! Great job! Bravo!
Oh thank you!
This piece is amazing, it truly does look like the map of some fantasy world with the land masses separated by a beautiful ocean
Thank you very much!
I wish you'd use that ghost pigment more often, I really love it!
Me too!! Thanks
Looks like an antic map of some fantasy aerea. Nice!!!!
Totally! Thanks 🙏🏻
The finish really made the red in the burl pop!
Thanks 😊
Wowza, that ghost pigment is spectacular, when combined with the burl. Its a one of a kind piece❤. Love the figuring in the wood with the swirls in the resin. Such s beauty.
Thanks so much!
Gorgeous, Jim! Can't help feeling like I'm looking at an old map.
I see it too, thanks Dan!
Dan, I completely agree! Beautiful
Beautiful Jim. I immediately thought of an old world map. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
The burl itself was beautiful, and the ghost pigment in the resin is gorgeous so the platter is just spectacular! I am so impressed! Great work!
Thanks again!
Ghost pigments look like pretty clouds!
Sure do, thanks!
Man Jim , that's your most amazing project yet!! Awesome ancient map!!
Thanks a bunch!
I am struggling to find the words to describe this piece. The wood is incredibly beautiful. The piece on a whole is fantasticly gorgeous. 😊💕🤗♥
Thanks Joalla, it’s certainly a one of a kind!
Those Aussie pine cones are pronounced 'bank-see-a'. That is an awesome result from that burl. Well done! 👍
Thanks!
That burl is sensational.
Thanks 🙏
Wow!!! That burl and resin combo is great! Awesome figure in the wood! Excellent job Jim!!
Thanks a bunch!
Magnificent piece.. the burr has the appearance of an old map... well done.
Yes, it sure does. Lots of map comments, thanks.
I love the definition on the burl as you apply the wood bowl finish.
It really brings it alive! Thanks!
It's other worldly. I bet that gets snatched up quickly!
I hope so too, lol. Thanks
The pattern and colouring of the platter look like a fantastic map of Pangea.
Lots of map comments! Thanks Charlie.
Good Stuff Jim…keep doing the wood justice
Thanks 🙏🏻
Incredible! It looks, to me, like an old map of islands with the ocean separating them. Wow is right!
Thanks David!
Great bowl. The natural reds of the boxelder are so unique.
It’s very cool! Thanks
I'm loving the burl, it speaks of so much action and the ghost adds to it. Love it all.
Thanks 😊
I love this. The ghost color is so beautiful!! Great job!!❤
Thank you so much!!
Great I was just getting over my you tube addiction then found this 🤣 RELAPSE!!!!!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 beautiful work btw 🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
This one turned out FANTASTIC!!! Thanks for sharing Stuart
Thanks Stuart!
That is just beautiful. The ghost powder was very nice with the blue
Thank you so much!
Beautiful ghosting, the rays of the burl are amazing. Great work as always.
Thanks Geogina!
Very earthlike, and soothing.
Awesome job Jim, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks
You do keep it real, and in a good way. That's pretty rare. Most people described as 'keeping it real' are pretty offputting and rude, but you're affable and kind. You're the kinda person someone really just wants to run up and hug, even when they don't like hugging people!
Anyway, really cool piece. I like the ones with more color, but this does have a cool effect and I do like how you flip the bookend pieces to keep the interest there. Fyi, one could trim down the bottom and inside so the interesting edges go around the circumference, but they'd still be stuck with the line! Only way around that is doing some cool cuts into it to turn that line into a pattern and hope the two pieces don't move during curing. Your way is definitely easier.
Best to break up any straight lines. Thanks 😊
Wow! You outdid yourself!! Spectacular! Hats off!! Farmer John, Ontario, Canada
Glad you enjoyed it!
you mentioned wanting to revisit that ghost pigment again sometime, i hope it’s sooner rather than later. throw some burl in again for good measure too, cuz that platter is something else. just so good it hurts.
the end of this video was a nice moment as well; you doug and ken are the three channels i watch most so it’s kinda neat to know y’all are on the same wavelength.
Yes, I need to do that pigment again! I watch both of their channels to and it’s uncanny how sometimes we kind of come up with the same projects some weeks, lol. Thanks
STUNNING piece . 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍❤️
Thanks Wanda!
Another beautiful piece of art. Thanks for the teaching commentary, or words of wisdom or whichever. I truely enjoy watching/learning from your videos
Awesome! Thanks!
I really love these glass like resins , you’re too tough on yourself ! They always turn out fabulous 😃
Lol, thanks!
If you ever venture into the bush to hunt for wood, that would be an awesome video!
One of theses days possibly, my body pretty much limits me from doing this anymore. Jim.
Looks good with that white resin... The wood is perfect for that color
There a good match, thanks!
Beautiful. Like the burl with the ghost pigment. Great job.
Thank you so much!
Absolutely beautiful, Jim! All the cool components to create an eye catching piece. Yes, Yes, Yes!
Thanks Ray, I will be doing at least two more of theses using different techniques, Jim.
@@SpragueWoodturning We will be watching.
Wow that's a beautiful platter! Thanks for sharing! Take care and GOD BLESS!
Thanks Stephen!
Beautiful piece my friend! Excellent execution and love the ghosting 👻
Thank you so much 😀,it's super awesome to work with!
Beautiful! Like a space station photo of the earth!
Totally, thanks!
Beautiful just beautiful
Thank you very much!
Oh my Gosh Jim that is so beautiful! The Ghost pigment just popped that Box Elder Burl! Such a wonderful piece!!!
Thanks Jane!
Jim, That piece is just amazing, reminds me of a vintage map.
Lots of map comments, it’s really cool, thanks 🙏
Love the color of the entire piece, especially with the red.
Thanks!
This piece is going to be amazing 🤩 I’d like to see a marbled pour combined in one of your wood designs! I thought the blue would be it, pour from high, the paint will sink low. You can make it rise/sink by using the weight of the pigments, some colors weigh more than others, that’s how they make “cells” with acrylic pouring too.
Great idea! I will give it some thought! Thanks!
So much character in the box elder and the ghost pigment is incredible great job Jim
Thank you very much!
You just keep getting better and better
Thanks 🙏
Fantastic looking platter. I really like that Boxelder Burl!
Me tooooooooo, thanks
Banksia (bank-sea-ah). I am a huge fan of your wood & resin art. I love your creations. Kind regards, Gina Mac. Queensland, Australia. 😊❤🙏🇦🇺🐨
Thanks for watching!
That is the most beautiful piece ever. I love it.

Thanks Curtis!
I see why the white is ghost blue. It does have a very slight blue cast, even before you put the other color in. Beautiful.
Yes, there is a very slight tint of blue, thanks
Absolutely love this. Your work keeps getting better and better.
Thanks Allan!
Another excellent project and looks fantastic it looks like different island beautiful. Thank you for showing us.👌👌👌👌
Thanks Richard!
Jim! I think that this platter is your absolute best work yet! The burl with the opalescent resin is stunning! 😍💕💫🤩If you had a store, this is the piece I would go to first, second ....and last! I hope you keep this piece. Maybe do something similar with the box elder bowl you roughed out last week? Then you have a matched display set!
LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!
Got to many display sets now, it’s for sale, lol. Thanks, hope that winning bowl is treating you good! Jim.
😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍
Wow! Love the burl and ghost pigment 😍
Me too, thanks!
Dear Jim,
I simply love your show.
That Ghost plat is beautiful. But I am surprised you did not used the other side. If you turn your plar up side down you will see that the 2 pice of wook look like 2 people talking to one andother, it would have been so cool.
You are my No 1 show since a do not have the cable.
Beast regards
Helene
Thanks Helene, I really appreciate it!
wow -- very nice! Looks like an aerial photo of a coastline. Nice work Jime!
Totally, thanks 🙏🏻
Oh my...you out did yourself this time!
It’s a beauty! Thanks
Hi Jim, to eliminate air bubbles with resin and burl, try painting the all the edges of the burl with resin and let it cure before casing in the mold, the resin should seal up the burl, great job on the platter and cheers from Australia.
Yea, I’ve done this before but decided against it because I need the resin to penetrate the edge of the burl because it was full of cracks and punky spots, thanks 🙏🏻
The platter is beautiful, amazingly so considering the first time used build techniques. A way of hardening the overall part, achieving an even gloss, and durability is to use a vacuum bag with thin viscosity clear resin to saturate the entire surface with epoxy then spray paint with an automotive clear coat. Vacuum bagging and automotive clear coats are used by boat and billiard cue makers.
Thanks for the tips. I will put them in the pressure pot next time and most of theses issues should disappear.
Lovely results, Jim. I love it! That boxelder burl is awesome stuff!
It really is! Thanks
Wow this looks great. I also paint the edges of the wood with a contrasting color, if you get lucky and pour at just the right time the darker color will bleed into the lighter colors for a cool effect.
I debated doing this but wasn’t sure how the ghost pigment would look so put it off for now anyway, thanks
Absolutely stunning Jim. I love this. I’m so happy to see you make a platter for a change 😝
I’ve got a few coming up, lol.
Stunning I don’t know what to say. Yes like you the burl is amazing and the resin that you used just adds to the beauty.
It’s a beauty! Thanks
Very cool! Always a pleasure to watch you create.
Thanks 🙏🏻
This project is just beautiful thank you for sharing it with us all stay safe
Thanks Tony!
Wow that turned out very beautiful outstanding job take care and God bless
Thank you very much!
Oh my gosh! I would like to combine this Ghost pigment with holo flakes - would make a opal-ish look, I think. This would look great with walnut, too. Congrats to this stunning piece!
Yes, it certainly would. Thanks for watching
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️
Thanks 🙏
Wow you do fantastic work and all of the extra effort that you put into the finishing really pays off. I’ve learned soooo much from your channel.
Thank you so much!
Really, really like it. 👍💛 Love your channel. Seriously, one of my faves. I watch plenty of channels but there are three notifications, in particular, that I’m always waiting for every week and yours is one of them! Thanks for sharing. 😁😊

Absolutely beautiful burl and resin.

Really pretty deep rainbow blue with that touch of pearl 💙 but it's the box elder burl that transfixed my eyes 👀 it looks like it's 3D 😊 just beautiful 🤠
Thanks so much!
I would have to wear ear protection when your trying to get your works out of the mold. I’d be jumping right along with it if I didn’t 😂. It seems LOUD! love you work this time as well. That color would look good with red/ black or gold/ black. Awesome work. Love all the pretty colors you come up with.❤
Thank you very much!
