You don't give yourself enough credit Jim - this is a very unique and beautiful piece. You're a talented and creative craftsman.
Thank you!
@@SpragueWoodturning Call 'em like I see 'em Jim. You're welcome.
I agree but it's honestly why I keep watching these vids. He's honest and to the point, and while we can hear it in his voice that he knows what he's doing, he's humble and sounds like he wants everyone to try it for themselves and enjoy being creative :D and I love that. he's teaching us little by little over time :D

Do you sell your pieces there amazing
Who knew a plain ole pinecone could be transformed into such a beautiful object.
Thanks 😊
Check all the screws, all the bolts, double check your entire system. Yup, another item for my checklist! THANK YOU!!!!
Yes you certainly should before every turning session. Thanks
Your daughter has chosen a great profession. I worked as office manager and front desk for 30 years in a dental office. It was a great job and I learned so many things about dentistry. If I was younger……….😊
We think so too, thanks!
The periwinkle with gold is gorgeous. I think the thick gold is fine, but I also really like the thin cracks that have unexpectedly been exposed and filled with gold. Those look really nice.
Thanks 😊
We're all learning, and I probably learn more from you than any other woodturner I follow on youtube. Keep it up!
Thanks I really appreciate!
Have you thought of making a lighted base for a lamp with that wonderful vase? Thank you for your wonderful work and teaching. My father and grandfather turned all their lives. That only let me watch. But I got the lathe so someday when I have a place to put it I'm going to made some stuff.

my husband and I make a commitment to watch your videos every Saturday. keep up the beautiful work
I really appreciate it! Thanks 😊
I'm not a turner, but I love to watch.
And purple always makes me happy.
Thanks 😊
Congratulations to your daughter for graduating.
The hollow form is very pretty. Gold was definitely the right contrast to the periwinkle.
Thanks!
The periwinkle and the gold are beautiful together. The effects of the pine cone is amazing.
Thanks 😊
The gold is the best choice with any purple color. Beautiful piece.
Thanks!
This hollow form looks great with the purple and the gold matches the petals of the pinecone, good choice. Its many times the husband is right!! 🤣. Congrats to your daughter.
We are on occasion, haha. Thanks
Love how the pine cone peaks out from resin. The gold and purple work well together. 💜
Thanks!
That periwinkle is just beautiful. Another beautiful vase 👍👍
Thanks 😊
Ohhhh, those colors are just... *chef's kiss* It looks like a dragon's egg!
Thanks!
Congratulations Carrie on your graduation 👏👏👏👏
Thanks again!
I like the extra contrast of your 'filler' epoxy. After your prep steps prior to applying finish, it looked to me like you already had a coat of finish. It always amazes me how the natural and man made materials can complement each other so well.
Agreed! Thanks 😊
The Pearl Gold you used in the cracks makes me think of kintsugi - like your most recent piece. The contrast of the gold and purple is fantastic, it looks absolutely gorgeous. 💛💜
Yes and I wish I had of done that technique here on this piece too. Thanks!
My bottom dollar to donuts consistent stretching will change your life.
It did mine. Stretching my back, neck, and legs fixed my shoulder and wrist.
I accidentally realized and recognized the relief in my wrist and shoulder, Stretching my back.
Little by little, more each day.
It will be painful at times, but don't quit, or overdo it; hydrating really helps speed up the process and lubricate your moving parts.
I thought I needed surgery for years, and that I'd die with the pain.
Just needed to actually stretch, and hold the stretches; you'll feel yourself get longer.
I can do splits now at 42 not even wanting to be able to, after doing manual labor since I was 17. Once you get the stretch bug, and feel the relief; my jaw even feels better when I chew! I was all knotted up.
I love your videos, I do not mean to push my fix on you; I just want you to get better. Love this vase, and really everything else you have done really!
Agreed, stretching is important and I don’t do enough of it. Thanks for watching!
I love coming back to these earlier ones...watching how far you've come, trial and error, etc...still totally fascinating!
Great! Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous piece! 😍Love the purple and gold combo. I like the multiple size gold slashes. It really adds to the character. That is worth owning! You should make another similar piece and as a night light!
Ya never know. Thanks 😊
@@SpragueWoodturning amazing
That is the biggest pinecone I’ve ever seen and that Periwinkle is gorgeous! Beautiful piece!
Thanks 😊
Those thin cracks of gold are gorgeous! The gold reminds me of the Japanese practice of kintsugi. Very beautiful!
Absolutely, thanks!
I could watch your videos all day long. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Thanks for watching!
I was not sure how the pine cones would turn out but it made for a very interesting and beautiful piece. Congratulations on hitting 50K!
Thanks 😊
Absolutely stunning, Jim. I love the streaks of gold into the rim. I almost would like to see some of the side gold bits extended more into a more random pattern rather than leaving them strictly horizontal just to create a bit more movement as there is on the rim. Well done, as usual. Love the translucence, too.
Thanks!
Congrats to your daughter on her accomplishment.
Thank you very much!
This is absolutely beautiful and so unique. It reminds me of a pineapple, but so much prettier😂. You are so very gifted, and creative.😊
Thank you so much 😀
Great work, Jim. A few thoughts: 1) When you blow out the inside if you use your dust collector hose or shop vac you can suck up all those shavings as they blow out 2) you might be able to sand the major part of the inside with a flap-sander on a drill 3) have you ever tried NOVUS 7100 Plastic Polish Kit - it leaves an exceptional finish on a piece with that much resin 4) the gold looks fine and the wide bit was a good choice - but, you might want to add more lines next time to get the "marble vein" look ... that would have set this piece off even more.
Keep up the good work. Your videos are always a joy to watch!
I really like the veining idea, never used the Novus before. This opening is pretty small to do any sanding in this vessel. Thanks
Jim - This piece is just phenomenal! Dremeling the cracks and filling with gold was absolutely the right choice. I love the way the gold echoes the color of the pine cone petals. I like the end result so much that I wonder if you would consider “manufacturing” cracks where there aren’t any filling them with a contrasting color? I don’t think you could ever go wrong with gold or other metallics but I’d like to see you experiment with other colors too - maybe something like emerald green with the periwinkle purple or yellow on green. The possibilities are endless.
P.S. Sorry to hear about your arthritis.
I don’t think I would do this to a piece that didn’t need it. Arthritis is becoming a real issue with me, it’s a real pain, lol. Thanks
Same thought here - that gold was a showstopper! So pretty!!!
Once again you outdid yourself beautiful beautiful beautiful the shine on this is so nice.
Thank you very much!
the colours are gorgeous and the gold over the cracks was a brilliant idea ...
Thanks 😊
Amazing work love the colour and the shape, really nice piece,I've just had a major leek on a vase i was going to make,520ml of resin all over the shed floor did not see it untill i stood in it,Ah well you live you learn.
That’s a regular occurrence for me, lol. Thanks
I feel for you, it's a common occurrence here as well. The only positive out of it is my floor, at least in that area is now waterproof. Lol
My shed floor is a really nice green and looks clean for once,it's amazing how much a little resin goe's a long way.
@@thesmallestbigbite.itsjust3352 I'd spread it out and refinish my floor.lol.
I really love this, it’s beautiful. I was just at a restaurant and they had some blown glass hanging light fixtures from Juno Lighting, that look very similar to yours. I don’t see why someone couldn’t use this instead of the blown glass. It would be cheaper that’s for sure. That gold resin really looks better than the white you used last time. I’d make a note of this, it’s not often a husband can say he was right and the wife wasn’t. Lol
It happens more than you may think, hahaha. Now back to my beatings, lol. Thanks
Great way to start my day. It’s 5:45am and I’m hanging out with Jim. 😁👍🏻
Thanks!
Very cool!!!
The gold veining added to it.
I haven't been to lake Isabella in forever!! 😂🤣😂
Congratulations to your daughter!!
Thanks 😊
Love the vessel and I really like the crack repair - reminds me of the Japanese Kintsugi. Also congrats to your daughter!
Thanks 😊
Love it. Colors are perfect and the size of the cracks is fine. I am going to try the glue block method since my casting height is limited inside a 2.5 gallon pressure pot. I don’t have a vacuum chuck but I have had luck with jam chucks on my vases. Congrats on 50k. It is fun to watch your videos and also watch the channel grow.
Thanks Kevin, I really appreciate it!
this brings back memories of my grandfather. he had a woodshop in their house that I spent a lot of time in. I wish I would have paid more attention when I was younger before he had passed away. Woodturning and carpentry is really something I want to get into.
Go for it! Thanks!
Love it. The maple collar really looks great. Compliments it perfectly 👌
Thank you so much 😀
My Comment was meant for the one with wood shavings . Don't know how I came to comment on the wrong one duh 🙄
Hi, Beautiful. Love the colours. 1st video, will be watching more. Very nice. Congrats to your daughter and Congrats to you in your 51000 subscripters.
Welcome aboard and thanks!
This piece is beautiful. As far as refrigerating the resin, there is a guy on BM Sculptures channel who put out a video 7 days ago on that subject. His sculptures are larger than what you typically make but theoretically the principles should be the same. ?
I actually follow him. Thanks!
Agree Jim the color contrast is excellent. A clear resin pinecone hollow form with an inside light 💡 would be interesting. Congratulations to your graduate 👩🎓🎈
Thanks 😊
Jim, we totally agree that the gold is a beautiful contrast. Your hollow form is so cool. Congratulations Mom and Dad.
Thanks, we really appreciate it!
😍🥰🤩 what more can I say! That Periwinkle is absolutely beautiful! Dremel’n out the
cracks and filling with gold adds a rich contrast but not distracting the beauty of the piece.
As to the size of the bit…. The smaller one would have made some very interesting veins and could been an even cooler look.
Couldn't agree more! Thanks
Another interesting way to make resin pots and I love the gold with the purple.
Thanks 😊
So beautiful. The periwinkle colour is wonderful, and then the gold picking up the colour of the petals. One of the things I love most about the pearl resin colours is the organic swirls and waterfalls created. I'm watching this 10 months late, but congratulations to your daughter!
Thank you very much!
Had not seen this it's fantastic, be proud, very proud 👏
I certainly am, thanks.
One of my favourite things about watching these videos is when the process itself contributes to the creative vision, as with the cracks turning into gold-filled gouges. Whether it was part of the original vision or not, the end process is that much more representative of the journey.
I also adore how the epoxy ends up being translucent! The hints of it I can see from when you showed the inside of the hollow form make me want to see what this piece would look like in a dark room with a light source dropped into the top-I can only imagine that the glow would be beautiful.
And big congrats to your daughter! 🎉
Thanks 😊
Gorgeous. That touch of gold was perfect!
Thanks 😊
One of your coolest pieces. The wider cuts for the gold worked perfect.
Thanks 😊
Again magnificent, my favorite color. Yes the gold was the way to go.
Thanks 😊
That's awesome. I like the gold accent personally. Congratulations to your daughter. Wish her the best.
👍👍✌️
Thanks!
The alien bugs are back! Yay!!! 💕
Lol, thanks 😊
Very, very nice. Thermal cracks actually give design possibilities. Like the gold fill.
Certainly, thanks!
Thank you for the info on the pens. Congrats on daughter. I was a dentist for 33 years. Now retired.
After the pandemic, dental hygienist are in big demand. She coming into the trade at the right time. Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning yes there is a shortage in our state florida too. In fact they are putting a sec hygiene school in our town.
I like the gold crack filler. Good choice. I'm fascinated by the wood turning process. Beautiful piece and the problems created an opportunity to make a really distinctive work.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful. That is the biggest pine cone I have ever seen.
Thanks 😊
Yeah baby periwinkle! That is fantastic. The pine cone pedals just shine through and the gold was a perfect call. Told ya periwinkle would be awesome! Jim that is beautiful and my favorite purple 💜 ❤ ♥ 😍
Thanks 😊
Love that piece. The gold matches the Pinecone and it looks like gold worms burrowing into the Pinecone.👍🇨🇦
Thanks 🇨🇦🇨🇦
What a huge pine cone! I’ve always thought a vacuum chamber would be more efficient than a pressure pot! Not really sure how pressure help filling voids or eliminating bubbles! No wonder I like watching you work, I’m left handed too! That’s a clever tool!
This vase is a gorgeous color! Fantastic finish! So unique, with that huge pine cone! One f your best pieces!
The pressure pot compresses the bubbles so small that you can’t see them. It will also push the resin into areas that it ordinarily wouldn’t flow. This is why most Woodturners use pressure pots. But a vacuum chamber is a necessity as well. Thanks 😊
Jim, that thermal cracking caused this piece to be extraordinary! The gold epoxy matches areas in the pine cone to a T. And no, I don't think you should have used the smaller burr! It seems like with every piece I'm always saying this is my favorite but I think this is my favorite! LOL! You're the epoxy King!
King epoxy, I’ll take it, haha. Next time I’m going to just stick with the small burr to see which look I like. Thanks
Filling the cracks with gold was absolutely the right choice. Reminds me of kintsugi, the process of repairing broken or cracked ceramics with gold.
Thanks!
This is a absolutely beautiful piece and I agree with the gold. Perfection!!
Thank you very much
Pinecone periwinkle & gold, just beautiful ❤✨️
Thank you! 🤗
Thank you for this video. Very interesting process.
The pinecone gives the finished piece a pineapple and also a peacock feather look with a sheen like a brand new bowling ball
Well that’s a new one, lol. Thanks 😊
WOW!!! I love how it looks. Beautiful Beautiful beautiful!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Another wonderful turning. Congrats to your daughter.
Thank you very much!
This really turned out to be a perfect work of art. I love it.
Thank you very much!
I think it’s beautiful. I feel like you made it for a few reason. You remind me of my father and I really enjoyed the video.
Awesome, thank you so much!
Love that massive pine cone! Thanks for showing both hollowers.
You’re welcome! Thanks 😊
Another amazing, beautiful pieces! And congratulations to your daughter 👏👏
Thanks 😊
Crazy beautiful. The gold in THR cracks was really perfect. Hava Goodun Jim
Same to you. Thanks
I love what you do, congratulations to your daughter!!
You are so kind, thanks for watching!
the gold goes nicely with the wood. actually Ive seen wood that shimmers like gold. the long leaf pinecones by themselves are beautiful. the piece is so regal and tactile. great instructional video!
Thanks for watching!
ABSOLUTLY AMAZING
Thanks!
I loved the second coat and this was fabulous!!

Now 50.6 thousand subscribers. Congratulations to you and your daughter- have a great trip. My granddaughters graduation was postponed for a year due to COVID but it we had a brilliant day. That vase is more than lovely. Thank you for sharing your work, your equipment and shop with us. Keep up the good work 🌞
It’s been a real pain this last 2 years! Thanks for watching!
Great piece. The gold is beautiful with the periwinkle.
Thanks 😊
Beautiful vase a lot of work and a lot of knowledge. I do like the contrast of the longer lines.
Thanks 😊
Well, you already did the 50k giveaway by the time I saw this video but I still had to comment...I think it's a great piece. I like the way you fixed those thermal cracks..I think it blended well with the piece. Congrats to your daughter. That purple was sweet!
Thanks!
I could see that as a lamp, flipped over and on a light bulb. The glow from it would be amazing!
Totally, thanks!
That's a beautiful vase.
Well done. 🤩
Thanks 😊
Really nice Jim. Filling in the cracks makes the piece more interesting. If you put flowers in the form then you may not see the cracks. As for things flying around the shop and you looking for them: we all have had that experience. Makes life interesting. The cone edges look like something floating in water. I would not want to be under the tree went one of them decides to fall. Enjoy the grad ceremony, free dental cleaning is always good. Take care and stay safe.
Being under that tree just might be deadly, lol. It was a great ceremony yesterday! One thing is for sure, if she starts cleaning my teeth I’m sure to get a lecture, hahah. Thanks
Beautiful ❤. I Love that Purple 😍. I've never seen such a big Pinecone 💜
It huge! Thanks 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your art form and skills. It is appreciated!!!

I would love to see that vase with a light inside. It would simply glow. Good Job.
Thanks 😊
I love how it looks at the end when you put the light in….awesome stuff Jim.
Thanks again!
Good choice on the Gold for the cracks. I like it when the cracks are made more straight edged like when you draw a lightning bolt. Makes it look more like a seem of gold or gems in a rock! Very nice piece indeed 👍👍
Thank you very much!

That was the biggest pine cone I’ve ever seen!! But I’ve never seen a pine cone look so beautiful!! I love the periwinkle and gold compliments very well. I don’t know how you come up with these ideas but your mind works better than mine. Congratulations to your daughter and to you and her mom for being the parents of a graduate!! Keep up the good work!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I love this piece! You were certainly right about the gold. It was the way to go. Congratulations to your daughter!
Thanks 😊
Had a bit of doubt about using the gold at first. To me, it looked too close in color to the petals of the cone. I couldn't have been more wrong. Looks fantastic! And if the Waterlox is only the medium sheen, the high sheen version must be blinding.
The advances in hollowing are pretty amazing. When I turned years ago, I took a 90 degree screwdriver and shaped the blade into a hollowing tip.
Congratulations on hitting 50K!!
Thanks! Glossy Waterlox is coming soon!
I love the periwinkle purple, and the gold is a great contrast. The large gold swirls really work well, I think due the the shape of the vase. Another great piece, it looks a bit like a pineapple, wish I had your artistic vision. Of course your channel is great, you're a leftie! Thanks for another show.
Thanks! Lefty’s are in their right minds, lol.

Way too cool.. That would make a spectacular lighted stair post globe.
Never thought of that before, but yes it would be pretty cool. Thanks for watching
2 of those cones joined together would make a cool dragon egg.
