Good suggestion from the person about the blue bulb. It's not just a lamp someone is paying for. It's a sculpture, a one off piece of art, beauty and craftsmanship that just so happens to be functional too. If people think a few thousand is expensive for your art, perhaps they should remind themselves that someone paid an obscene amount of money for a blue dot on a white canvas. 😉
Great point! Thank you very much!
Nice work. The "bell" feature truly needs to stay. Now you have a Designer Epoxy jellyfish hovering over the coral reef. Blue bulb looks great. Thanks for posting
Thank you so much!
The blue bulb is a winner. A neat project for sure. 💕
Thanks so much!
It’s absolutely beautiful. I love the blue light, it definitely adds the perfect amount of ambience. Absolutely love it! It’s definitely worth the money. More than I could do right now but it is definitely worth the money! The people that bought this will love it. What a beautiful piece of art.
Glad you like it! Thanks
Hi Jim. Thing is, it's more than a lamp. It is definitely a piece of artwork and could be in a museum. Don't sell yourself short!!! Just fantastic. Was fun to watch!! ❤
Thank you very much!
Here is my thought. The more experienced you are, the easier you make it look and I feel as though I could do this myself, and I don't know a thing. Excellent! Thanks again.
Thanks again!
"Bell feature" was totally worth saving.
And it somewhat mirrors the top shape element of the base, which ties them both together.
Thank you very much!
Definitely agree! On the bell flare and the matching. They're truly an inseparable set imo!
I absolutely LOVE the "bell feature" on the lampshade! So, so pretty! The whole theme is fantastic!
Thanks again!
Jim, although you say that next week will be out of this world, this finished lamp has already achieved that. The use of the glow in the dark coloring and the mix which was achieved within the shade has created an underworld deep horizons effect. I must applaud your skills and the work which went into this lamp was commendable. I was glad you left the air bubbles in the shade they bring a diving dimension to the top of the bell dome. == just thinking of GI Joe under the dome swimming up to the surface == 🤿
Thank you very much!
Being that it's an ocean theme, I Like the Bubbles.❤ It adds to it overall😅
I think so too, thanks!
Designer Epoxy, love how the Blue LED light really gave it a shine.
Me too! Thank you very much!
Designer Epoxy also the thumb nail didn't do it justice! That is WOW just WOW!
Love this lamp. ❤.
The lamp shade brought the whole project together 💖
Thank you very much!
Jim I think this is work of art has become my favorite. You answered my questions about resin, without me needing to ask. Thank you
Glad to help! Thanks so much!
Just gorgeous! The blue light is a winner for sure! One of the most beautiful lamps that I've ever seen. I always knew that Canadians were super talented! Love your channel! ✌🇨🇦♥️💙
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
I like the way the lamp shows off different colors. Your workmanship and talent brings out the beauty in the piece.
Thank you very much!
Jim, you’re a genius! I had no idea a shade made out of wood and epoxy was possible. I figured it would be too heavy. To me, this is a real masterpiece. I love how you experiment with epoxy. It’s amazing what you can do with it. Adds a whole new dimension to what is already a fantastic piece of art.
Thank you very much!
Stunningly gorgeous! The bell shape is reminiscent of jelly fish in motion. Phenomenal!!
Yes! Thank you!
This lamp looks spectacular! The shade makes me think of a jellyfish bell, and with the coral reef base, it's just plain gorgeous!
Thank you very much!
Wow. This is a gorgeous lamp. The blue bulb is the choice here. Most excellent.
Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
Prep work takes a lot more time than the finish work. I really like the blue light in the lamp!!!❤🎉
Yes it does! Thanks!
That is, hands down, the coolest lamp I've ever seen! Not only by using Designer Epoxy's pigments, which were perfect, but the shape you gave it, Jim, was absolutely perfect. And while I understand that you'd have to charge an exorbitant amount to make a profit on one, those who have the funds to spend on something completely and utterly unique, won't blink at the price tag. I'd say put that on your menu of available products, with plenty of time so that it's not the only thing you're working on, the appropriate price tag for a specialty item, and I'll bet someone will snatch it up. If I had the funds, heck yeah, I would!!!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
I’m only a little more than halfway in and I can already tell that is a diamond in the rough. It is going to be stunning. I already love it and you’re still spinning it. Can’t wait to see the end piece .
Thank you very much!
I couldn't hardly wait till today cause i was befuddled on how you was gonna make a lamp shade. Was it gonna be fsbric or resin.i just couldn't see you sewing a lanp shade, not that you could not run a sewing machine but i just dont think that is your main intrest. I can see why this shade is stunning. Beautiful work. Worth the wait.🎉🎉🎉
I made an Hawaiian shirt in Home Ed, lol. Thanks
Love the look with the blue bulb. The UV glow in the dark is so pretty and the marbling effect of the different colors of resin too. I do wish there was more of the burl in it just because I love the look of it in the lamp itself. Overall this will be a great signature piece with its sister bowl. Would be neat to see them together.
I will see if the owner will send me a photo and share it on the community tab at a later date. Thanks
The shade looked like a jelly fish in the dark. That is awesome
Thanks so much!
we had to put down one of are cats today..Purdy she was a wonderful cat three legs but got around great but kidney's were failing couldn't let her suffer anymore I hope God has a place for are animals they deserve a place just like us all maybe even more! GOD Bless Jim beautiful Lamp!!...Larry
Sorry about your cat! Thanks
Now that is a BEAUTY! And the blue bulb brings everything together quite stunningly. 😎
Thank you kindly!
Wow what a beautiful piece. Whoda thunk a lamp shade that big would be made out of designer epoxy resin. I really like the bell shape, it reminds me of the old school bells at the checkin of a hotel lobby or the ones on old bicycles. Very very cool.
WOW!!! That was quite the project Jim. Really love the bell shape and the blue light. Once again super impressive project. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊.
Thank you so much!
Absolutely stunning craftsmanship Jim! As usual! 👏
Thank you very much!
Hey Jim!
Where's Nemo!?!?😂😂😂
Fabulous!
Thanks again!
Woah, Jim! How on Earth do you surpass yourself every time you post? This has been my favourite project of yours, ever. Not least because I was one of the people who asked for a lamp weeks ago 😂. Bravo!
Wow, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
The lamp is very unique. I didn’t get to watch this last Friday. I was in Niagara Falls for the eclipse. Great job. Designer Epoxy.
Awesome! Thank you!
Designer Epoxy. Jim, just beginning to cast bowls with epoxy. Called Designer Epoxy and spoke with Gabriel. What an amazing guy. Very helpful. Great product that you endorse. Will definitely use him exclusively!
Sounds great! Thank you very much!
🤩 Jim, wow! Amazing lamp. The blue light is the winner.
Thanks so much!
It's a really beautiful work of art! I do like the "bell" feature and the blue light is so pretty. Congratulations on a job very well done!
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words.
I am also on Team Blue Bulb and Team Bell! That turned out absolutely amazing! I think the "reef" look isn't as striking in the shade as it is in the base due to the small amount of wood, but it makes sense that you couldn't use much due to the small amount of the burl you had to work with. It wouldn't have made sense to leave the wood out either, because it ties the top and the bottom together. In the end you definitely made the right choice. The new owner will LOVE it!
Awesome! Thank you!
Oh wow the blue light really brings the whole thing together!
It really does, thanks!
You have to charge that much Jim, it's a one of a kind and can't be mass produced. The lamp turned out beautiful, I'm impressed.
Thank you so much!
I love that glow in the dark. The blue UV light really makes stand out. Designer Epoxy.
Thanks so much!
We REALLY appreciate your reviews as you go. We have wood pieces that haven’t sold. Now we are going to add shine and see if that gives them the edge to sell. Thank you!!! Also, thank you for your feedback of cost for a mostly epoxy piece verses the chances of finding a buyer with really deep pockets. We are finding that most people don’t know what they are looking at and have no clue about the cost of materials, time and artistry needed to make it. They just want it for $5 or less. Great job!!!! Designer epoxy.
Yes, most people have no idea how much labour is involved in a piece like this. Shinny sale will be great, thanks!
Jim, This 2 part series was wonderful!!! I can't imagine what You would do, but I would watch ANY series that You did!! You are so very imaginative and don't seem afraid to try anything. I personally find that refreshing. I love the bell shap, it is certainly evocative of a jelly fish. I look forward to another trip to outer space.
I am also praying that you have good luck selling your house, but I dread the waiting time till You get settled and start creating your art again! I am addicted to your channel.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
Oh so pretty. Love all the Designer Epoxy colors and especially the glow in the dark. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and giving me inspiration
You are so welcome! Thanks
Wow. Totally awesome piece Jim. I liked the shape you have. The lamp and shade go well together. This is what i love about turning and project like this. There will never be another piece like it. It is unique. You should be totally stoked with the way it turned out. As always thanks for sharing your skills and ideas with us. It is much appreciated. Cheers Bruce
Cool, thanks!
The blue light works best, in my opinion. You did a great job. I didn’t think I’d like it. But you did it. Work of art.
Thank you so much!
Wow, I love the blue light in that beautiful lamp!!!❤❤❤
Me too!! Thank you very much!
Hi Jim, it's a beautiful lamp. Very relaxing light. The person will love it. The glow in the dark is a great idea. It has 3 looks in one. I love it. Have a great weekend. Take care.
Thank you very much!
A beautiful creation Jim! The reef motif is swimming!! Have great weekend Brother.🍻
Thanks, you too!
11:42 You took the words right out of my mouth. I love purples and blues 😊😊🥰🥰 We just had an inch or so of snow in Western Massachusetts this past Wednesday and.... I already had Daffodils up and blooming. So far, they're still alive by some miracle. 💜💜💜 27:00 The inside color looks so pretty 💜💞 36:25 Wow, love the color blending 💜💜
Thank you very much 🥶🥶
Absolutely incredible. I love how you find your vision en route. Just wonderful.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful looking lamp, such a great idea and the glow in the dark is a bonus.
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing finish on this. The designer epoxy looks so clear so it lets plenty of light into the room. Great job.
Thank you!
I like it with the little bell feature. I agree that it would be tough to get your money back. Maybe just make a base and sell as is or with a store-bought shade. Very cool. would love to see an all-wood project in the future, however I pretty much enjoy all you projects. Thanks. Designer Epoxy
Thanks so much!
I particularly like it without the light on and just “glowing in the dark”.
The bell in the shade reflected the ridges you gave the base. It really is a stunning piece - great artistic achievement ❤
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
Just about dropped my phone when I saw the thumbnail for this video. Got my popcorn ready, jammies on, ready to check this out! 🎉🎉
Hope you enjoy, thanks!
I love that u saved the bell feature. The glow in the dark sets it to a different level/category Next u need to do a glow in the dark hypershift. Designer Epoxy
That would be cool! Thanks!
Another masterpiece. A very different type of art. Decorative, useful, and a one off piece of art. 😊
Thank you so much 😀
I absolutely love every part of the lamp. Thanks for sharing your talents with us UA-cam watchers. Even though I don’t do any wood turning myself. I do enjoy watching many different forms of Art Work. Which in my eyes that’s exactly what this is. I’ll be sending prayers up to heaven for you & your Wife. I hope y’all are able to sell your house for what you are hoping to get out of it.god bless you both & wishing y’all a wonderful weekend. From SE Louisiana, 🇺🇸🙏💗
Thanks so very much! Much appreciated!
Designer Epoxy. Yeah, that blue LED was ALOT better. That is not just a lamp it is a VERY beautiful piece of art. People have to realize that is what they are buying not a several thousand dollar lamp, but a piece of art that happens to light up. Wonderful piece and again AWESOME work.
Thank you very much!
Another wow project. You have surpassed yourself again .
Thank you very much!
This is a great looking project! The shade goes with the base so well. I'm glad you had enough burl in the shade to reflect the "coral" of the base, even if it was not as much as you (or I) originally hoped. Also truly amazing how much the blue light makes a difference to the overall look, that addition definitely a winner.
Designer Epoxy
Thank you so much!
That lamp is freaking cool. I love your ocean themed pieces.
Thanks so much!
Another great colour combo! What an amazing and functional work of art. All the best with the house - we’re rooting for you. And yeah, the cat hair struggle is real! Love this channel, thanks again. 🇬🇧
Thank you! Cheers!
OMG! What a GORGEOUS LAMP!!!! Lots and lots of work, but the customer who got this fantastic lamp really has a work of art! Love love love it, Jim ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
really love the look of this lamp. the shade looks great! It looks like the bell of a Jellyfish floating above the coral base! Nicely done! I love the way designer epoxy looks in this one.
Thank you! Cheers!
Oh, yes, the blue bulb makes it! Ah, I happen to do a lot of color by number art on my smart phone, and there are always a lot more bubbles than that in the aquatic scenes, so I say there's nothing to worry about with that. More bubbles might have been a plus in fact, going by that. Stunningly gorgeous work of art, as always!😊
Thank you very much!
The shade looks like a jellyfish! You said 'open the light' I never heard anyone use that expression outside where I grew up on Long Island, NY. ❤❤ Designer Epoxy
Ha ha! Maybe it’s an East Coast saying! Thanks
A very stunning piece of art and craftsmanship Jim. The bell shape and bubbles fit with oceanic theme for sure.💙❤💜
Thanks so much!
Looks great. The blue led light makes it look better. The shade would also make cool looking bowl for parties.
Thanks so much!
The shade really suits the lamp. It's so beautifully seathrough. Gorgeous. Thx Jim, very interesting
Thank you very much!
O my, Jim. Who thought the bowl would give you such beautiful, um, drips? That’s so festive!
Thanks so much!
I like the glow in the dark aspect. Over all Jim, I think you did a good job ❤😊
Thanks so much!
Designer epoxy yes jim I agree not many people will pay for time/materials nor do they appreciate the effort and skills involved. Here in the lower 48 people are cheap! Thanks for the content 😊
At least 95% of my sales go to the US, lol. Thanks
Nugget from the Sprague Vault of Wisdom: Shiny Sells! Words to live by!! You know that you're in the creative "zone" when even the hot melt glue takes on the aquatic theme! Beautiful work, Jim. Tiffany would be jealous!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
I'd like to see more 2 part videos. I'm glad that this one is sold.
Noted! Thanks so much!
This piece is fantastic!!! How cool! 🥰🤗 I think it’s time for a new jewelry box project, with a hinged lid. 🤗
Thank you again!
Wow, it's stunning and unique ❤ it great no matter what bulb, but the blue one did show the colours better. Love it.
Thank you so much!
Jim, this is a phenomenal piece. I agree that the "bell" rim adds character. The colors and glow-in-the-dark epoxy are fantastic. Superb workmanship. I'm sure the new owner will love it.
Many thanks!
Great job Jim love the clear part on the shade the glow in the dark is amazing . Love all the colors.
Designer Epoxy
Thanks so much!
Love the blue bulb. What an amazing piece! You did a wonderful job.
Thank you so much!
Wow the lamp shade really fits perfect with this piece. Love it.
Thank you! Cheers!
Loving the blue LED light but the lamp is awesome either way!! Always fun to watch these videos. Thanks for creating these treasures!! 🤩🤩🤩 Designer epoxy 😁
Thanks for watching! Much appreciated!
The shade turned out wonderfully. I caught the tail end of the premiere and will go watch the whole thing shortly. Base and shade have both complimentary yet subtle differences that make such a cohesive unit. You have an extraordinary talent, thank you for sharing your craft with us. 😊🙏
Awesome! Thank you!
Shade turned out just the way I thought you would do it, turned out great Jim... Designer Epoxy
Thank you! Cheers!
If I were a Rich man I fill my home with this lamp and more because of the originally of it.
Well done, Sir.❤
So nice of you, thanks!
Awesomeness! You are really pushing the envelope with Designer Epoxy, again awesome work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love it. I also think the blue light made it better. Really cool. Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
The flow in the dark affect is very very cool! I love the lamp idea!
Thank you very much!
I really like the lamp Jim. I can see you making all kinds of them for the ocean fishermen. The colours came out good. I can imagine the time that went into figuring out how to do the shade. When you were notching the top, I was hoping that you would not lose the vacuum. The owner is going to have quite the story to tell when the friends come over. Take care and as always, stay safe.
Yes, the powers been sketchy lately so I was nervous, lol. Thanks!
Jim, I'm running out of superlatives! I hope the owner loves this as much as I do. It is just drop dead gorgeous. It really does look like an underwater grotto. Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
Im not sure I had a lampshade shape or design in mind when you first started the whole lamp project. This week proved interesting and I love the complete project! I love the bell shape, that bottom lip design was perfect!! Its a beautiful lamp, Jim! Thank you. ❤
Oh wow! Thank you very much!
It’s an amazing thing to watch your creativity grow with each piece of art you create. Always look forward to Friday to see what you come up with next.
Thank you so much!
The shade looks like a bowl. Imagine that. I like the colors and the design. Designer Epoxy.
I just can’t help myself, lol. Thanks
A lamp to make any ocean enthusiast happy.Beautiful work!
Thank you! Cheers!
This lamp and 😎 shines. So unique, and shows off your excellent work. Love it.
Thank you so much!
So glad the tip on the blue LED worked out! (That was me. C/o mostly my years of working with reef aquariums.) Definitely looks even more awesome with the blue bulb! It brings out that real depth in the layers. GORGEOUS lamp!
Cheers!
I’ve got a black light now and will take a photo and post it in the community tab later this week. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@SpragueWoodturning The thing with blacklight that I'd be concerned about is the UV, but not all blacklight bulbs actually give off UV but still get that glow, which makes sense (but is beyond my understanding, or at least recollection). Cos UV rays of course damage our tissue (especially skin & eyes, dangerously so with UV from fluorescent & halogen bulbs) and also anything exposed for a while, like the resin of the lamp. That's definitely a factor in the eventual yellowing, crazing, & cracking. IF the bulb doesn't give off any UV (as, again, some "blacklight" bulbs don't) then no problem, but do note. Blue light, however, doesn't give off UV, so there's that. Also, true blue LEDs work better for the glow, ime, and also vs a blue cap over a white LED like the bulb you showed, which still gave great results so imagine! You can easily get one of those bulb retrofits that have a regular e27 screw-in but have several LEDs in blue and in cool white, the blue for that glow & the white for normal light. Usually sold as a grow light bulb or aquarium bulb. All this, feel free to take what I've said here & ask others, like if you have or use Discord, or any board (Reddit or something) that does aquariums or indoor plants would know, probably resin folks ought to have found this, though surprisingly I (personally, anyway) haven't seen it utilised in this way, to make stuff glow.
Sorry that was long, but hopefully it might be useful, or point you in a good direction for this &/or future projects, to get that extra pop & take full advantage of that glow quality. Cos really, just a couple of blue LEDs can make the glow stuff GLOW full-bore without having to be dark (though it's more pronounced the less bright a room) and that can really make someone think twice about "glow in the _dark"_ parts.
Final tip, technical info: in aquarium use, especially reef/saltwater tanks, the specific blue light used is called "actinic blue" (said like "uh'TINNic" or "ah"... not quite "æ" like "cat") and is 420nm to 460nm wavelength. (And inb4 "true" actinic, cos it matters not for this application.) This is different from the "blue" 20,000°K (as in Kelvin, colour temperature used for mostly full spectrum bulbs & their appearance, not the nm wavelengths of coloured LEDs), also known incorrectly as "20K" (would be "20k°K" or at least "20kK") ... Just ignore that stuff, mostly for halide/vapour bulbs & for full grow lamps with full-spectrum mimicry.
Sorry, I never learned to be concise! :x
@@mookinbabysealfurmittens have a look under the community tab and tell me what you think. Yellowing could be a problem over time with the black light. Thanks again for the info!
Really cool shade. The colors are great, it's Just the right size. It glows well, and yes the blue bulb looks best. Great job. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thank you so much!
Nice job Jim, the lamp came together nicely! Thanks for sharing !
Designer Epoxy
Thank you! Cheers!
The final product is exquisite! The thumbnail does not do it justice!
Thank you very much!
Hi Jim the shade is magnificent and unique it looks like a jelly fish on the reef which is the base. You truly are a masterwoodturner and mastercrafter, the blue Led bulb was a brilliant idea it looks great on the Lamp. I really love your finishes on the items you have made they look great and attractive. Thank you for an enjoyable video and last weeks. Amandaxx❤❤
Many thanks, check out the Community tab for pictures with the black light installed.
Turned out amazingly. I love the bell shape on the shade.
Thank you so much!
