    I'm sick of hearing about defendants laughing, joking and doing things like waving and grinning at the victims family in court. One giggle or hideous comment and the judge should put them back in their cell for the remainder of the trial. 3 months of this behaviour in a murder trial is just unbelievable!

      And the worst part of it is that while all the evidence was being read in court, Rhys's mother was understandably upset and crying at hearing it all and the judge had told her, through her solicitor (I think it was) that if she was going to keep getting upset in court then they would have to ask her to leave as it could influence the jury's decision. I mean, that's her son they're talking about and she's supposed to just sit there and not show emotion while they stand and have a laugh and joke when they're up for murder?

    I just don't understand gangs. It doesn't make sense to me that a group of people would want to commit crimes and cover them up. An innocent 11 year old boy was murdered and these Croxteth Crew pricks were totally fine with covering it up and preventing the family from finding peace. I don't understand how anyone could be so unfeeling and cruel. It sickens me.

    Could you cover the case of David Blake who went missing from Kennesaw, Ga, USA. I live here and it feels as if he is forgotten. He went to the high school just down the road from me. He was an avid hiker and hiked Kennesaw Mountain regularly, so he knew the terrain. He even had gear that he didn`t bring the day he went missing. His car was found in an overflow parking lot I`ve been to a thousand times, with his keys in it, but no David. It`s a very odd case and again, it`s like he`s been swept under the rug. Nobody is talking about him and everyone has hushed theories but quickly moves on. I know its quite a short case and maybe you could combine it with other short cases in one video, I just want to see if I can get his name out there because it breaks my heart.

    I lived in a small town when I was on the highschool soccer team. I remember there was a day we weren't allowed to practice outside because it was a gang initiation day and the initiation was to shoot a woman or a child. Even though the gang was located in a town a half hour away we had to take precaution. Gangs are vile groups that don't simply stay in one location. This could have easily been an initiation, a case of wrong place at the wrong time.

    • @caitdesch
      @caitdesch 4 роки тому +18

      When I was in college, there was always once a year a gang initiation week. For the whole week, none of the guys would let any of their girl friends go anywhere alone, even in the middle of the day on what was normally a very safe campus. Punks from the gangs would travel into several different surrounding towns trying to harm women.

    • @pnklady3788
      @pnklady3788 4 роки тому +71

      It really is very very rare in the UK... even in big cities.. almost noone is armed. Those that are are usually gang members. Even when people are shot, it's usually gang members targeting each other (which was actually the case here, Rhys was sadly caught in the crossfire). It's pretty much unheard of for members of the general public to be armed, and handguns were banned after the 1996 school shooting in Dunblane which killed 16 5/6 year olds and their teacher, and injured all but 1 in the class. (Thomas Hamilton's guns were legally held). The police aren't routinely armed either. The UK has many issues, but gun crime isn't a major factor. Knives are another matter.. although I live in the Scottish Highlands where in a 40 minute walk into the town centre, you will be lucky to see another house or a single car, never mind a person . the road is single track and the main walkway is through the forest/mountains/by the loch.

When she said that usually if you're not part of the gang then you're safe I was like "I wish it was like that here", apart from getting caught in the crossfire... gangs here have an initiation dare where they have to kill an innocent to prove themselves, so nobody is safe.

      It’s insane to me. I live in Oklahoma....so there’s quite a lot of backwater attitude here. If someone were to even mention that they wished we had gun laws similar to that in the UK, there’d be huge gun rallies to oppose it. And I don’t mean just hunters. It’d be huge gatherings of people who carry any and every gun they can get their hands on.

    Wow, I'm from Liverpool and I remember exactly when this happened - I was the same age as Rhys at the time (a fellow Evertonian too!) and everyone in the city was so shocked. Croxteth is such a bad area in Liverpool and it is absolutely filled with gang violence, my mum actually worked in Croxteth at this time so I saw firsthand how bad the area and those surrounding it were. It was absolutely tragic that a young kid with his whole life ahead of him got caught in the middle of this - and it is scary to think that I could have easily been in Rhys' shoes just as much. Being from the US, it's actually quite jarring having to remind myself how different the rates of and reactions to violent crime between our two countries are.
    First, to be brutally honest, if a single child was killed in the crossfire of a gang shooting, it likely wouldn't be that big of a news story unless it happened in a pretty small/rural town. Multiple death shootings have become so common that a lot of those don't even really get widespread news coverage. Not that the cases don't deserve it, just that it would be an almost constant stream if every murder became big news, especially in big cities.
    Second, the idea that a parent would hear "your child has been shot" and automatically assume it was a pellet gun is mind-boggling to me. Here, anyone would immediately know that it was a real gun if it was stated that way.
    I wish this weren't the case, but it really did make me stop and realize how much different life is over in the UK. It's deeply upsetting to realize how "normal" these things are treated as being in this country.

    • @WakeyWakeyEggsandBakey
      @WakeyWakeyEggsandBakey 4 роки тому +13

      Hi. Im in the UK. Obviously there is a lot more gun crime in the U.S. However your idea of it being peaceful here isn't really true. Of course, little villages are peaceful like everywhere. But cities and bigger towns have a lot of violent crime. The thing is, guns are legal in the states but not here so they are rarer here.
      That doesn't stop violent crime though. We have a MASSIVE amount of knife crime. Watch this video which is cctv from residential streets in London. ua-cam.com/video/kbigeSOh2Q0/v-deo.html
      It might go a little way to show what it's like here. The main reason the parents thought he maybe got shot with a pellet gun is because he was 11 and not in a gang. A parent of a child in a gang who heard their child had been shot wouldn't assume it was a pellet gun.
      I've only been to Texas in the U.S. And I found the ordinary person in the street to be far more friendly than people in this country. People here are mostly paranoid, untrusting and wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire. That's nothing to do with violent crime, just an observation about the general way people are.
      I'm not trying to get into a "my country is more ghetto than yours" discussion, I just want to address your inaccurate idea of the UK.
      God bless.

      @@WakeyWakeyEggsandBakey Thanks for pointing this out, because just like the UK has more violent crime than you would think, the majority of the US is more peaceful than you would think. Most violent crime, especially shootings come from several large cities such as Chicago and New York were the rate of these crimes is so frequent that when talked about as a country as a whole, makes the US look very violent.

      little villages tend to be peaceful but major cities always have a stabbing, gangs are always committing arson, robbery, petrol bombing etc. it’s easy to think that the UK is peaceful and non violent but there’s a lot of ‘dirty’ crime here- often very messy.

      @@jackwatson3944 i mean you say american standards and i assume you mean crime rates- that might have something to do with the 262 million population difference- and easier access to firearms- and corrupt judicial system...yeah not a fair comparison. ignorant to see UK as tame and safe when you’re comparing it to a country over 10x it’s size. UK is just as guilty as being gruesome and cruel.

      @@jackwatson3944 i assumed we were discussing just general crime- murder would be a rarity in comparison to America but it still happens here alarmingly often, i hope you’re not desensitised to it. again, murder in the USA would be so much easier to execute and ultimately get away with due to access to firearms and the judicial system. murder in the UK is a lot harder as it would require a knife or something not as quick as a gun. it tends to be a slower death, an easily investigated death. but if you compare the UK to a country with a similar population and similar laws when it comes to firearms, you’d see we aren’t innocent, we aren’t peaceful and we aren’t tame. comparing a crime rate of a city where access to a firearm is relatively easy to two countries in which possession of a firearm is illegal and access to a gun license is police issued
