You might want to try the Flowbee , I've been using mine for over 20 years . I use to spend $35 a month on hair cut and tip , that is $8,400 for the 20 years plus the gas and time wasted to get there . Also no human being can cut hair as evenly as a Flowbee , I don't care how experience the barber is it can't be done . Look in to it , if you have the right kind of hair and hair style you can't go wrong .

Just so you know, that lever on the side isn’t about hair thickness. It’s an “Open” or “Closed” lever. Leaving it “open” would raise the clipper razor guard making it a bit longer when cutting. “Closed” will lower the Razor guard so that it’s a closer or shorter cut.
It’s used for things like fades

For men, a barber/hairstylist charges $16+ to cut your hair and takes them no more than 10 minutes from start to finish. It is much affordable to just buy your own kit ($35-$45) and do it yourself or have a friend/family cut it for you.

I give myself military buzz-cuts. #2 guard all around (1/4 inch), then #1 on the sides (1/8 inch), then #0 on top of neck and ears (1/16 inch), followed by just the trimmer by itself in lowest areas. The most important thing is getting a graduated curve going up to the top on the sides, as people can see whether both sides are symmetrical (unlike the back, which is by itself). For me, stray hairs sticking out are better trimmed with clippers than scissors. Then shower, 2 weeks later, trim it again. Never needs combing.

Watching you nilly willy cutting your hair like that gave me the courage to change the way I cut my own hair. I am 66 years old. Hair thinning on top quite a bit, but full on the sides. Retired 10 years ago. I not been to the the barber at all in all those retirement years, but I always used my 20 year old Wahl clippers upside down and cut it very carefully. I did like you did, using some old attachments that came with clippers my mom used on me over 55 years ago, and did to myself the best haircut I have ever had this morning. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!!!!

Um... The "Lever" for cutting "thicker or thinner hair"..... That's a half step. As in... If you put a #1 guard on and put the "Lever" in the half step position it will become 1 1/2 leaving the hair a little longer. This is used to make an even fade from guard to guard and help with lines of demarcation... Good luck.

just a tip and my 2 cents...i've also cut my own hair for years. much of what you said was on point for the most part. your ideal mirror is tri fold though man. your "big mirror" doesn't work as well trust me. a wall mounted, medicine style cabinet that allows the 2 outside mirrors to fold inwards is what works best. It doubles as a great place to keep your supplies. again just my 2 cents

I been cutting my own hair for 12 years pretty much just like this and he's right you have to have patience especially if you're just learning. in the beginning it would take me an hour or more to do it and now about a half hour give or take. I use to buy those cheap Walmart trimmers and finally got me a $100+ pair. don't get me wrong I used the Walmart ones for 8 years and it was probably a good thing because there is a world of difference between the two. the cheap trimmers would have mercy on a mistake but that expensive pair would show no mercy and scalp you quick if you wasn't careful. I feel pretty comfortable cutting my own hair now with those really sharp trimmers but still need patience which is the key to doing it in my opinion.

I taught all my boys to do this. When you're a college student, you gotta be frugal. What number is a 3/8"? We use a 2 or 3 on the bottom and a 4 or 5 for the top.

Roger Sterling can afford to pay someone to cut his hair! ;-)
Good video, but I was looking for a video that is not such a dramatic change. That is, if you can cut your hair every few weeks or so so that it doesn't look like it is every getting cut.

Best haircutting video on utube! This guy is confident, most of these videos-the guy says "i'm not sure about this..." or "it's just way hard and takes lots of practice" I wear my hair very short and am gonna go this route-tired of making appointments and the expense...the tipping, and wasting a trip to the barbers.

You've got to make sure you're using the right blade guards. Which blades did you use sides and back and on top?

because of this video, I cut my own for the 1st time and what a fkg mistake. I fkt it all up. I don't think I can fix it either.
too short in some spots, bare spots. like a lawnmower spit some rocks out. I KNEW I shouldn't have tried this.
I have this vintage Oster 76 clipper, with no other blades or comb att's it just happens to have the 1 blade I didn't want for the shortest haircut. I tried taping a mens plastic comb to it, to make it sturdy enough and the tape covered the breathing holes and it over heated after about a minute, THAT was fkg useless. so I had to stop. this was such a mistake. I hope i can fix this.
