    Details matter! Here in Hollywood barbering is linked to movie and television production. You must determine your outcome before starting because you're going for a specific look. So, visualizing what a cut needs to look like is key to matching the tools needed to produce it.

I also offer to pay for the barbershop redo if I screw it up but he still refuse. Yet, he goes to the barber every 3 or 4 weeks. I could save him some money but he refuse anyway. Hahahha.

    How is it possible that you cut the hair on the back and sides with a longer comb (green) and shade the top with a shorter comb (yellow)? Will this cut it too short? Do you need to be careful and just comb your hair lightly? Thank you 😊

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 місяці тому +5

      Good question izabela. It is thanks to the direction of the hair growth. When I cut up the sides, the clipper guard lifts the hair and cuts it to the length of the guard. However when going down the clipper guard does not lift the hair, instead it skimms the surface off.

    Thank you! I’ve been cutting my husband’s hair off and on since we got married, and I’ve been cutting my boys as well since the pandemic. This video is REALLY going to up my fade game! One question: When you use the #2 guide in a downward motion to blend the crown in with the sides, would that method work on curly or wiry hair? Thank you again for a great tutorial!

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 місяці тому +2

      It’s less effective the more curly the hair is. This method relies on the hair laying flat in a stack. So you are skimming the surface of the stack off

    What a nice surprise waking up to this! Here's a very basic ?: how high should the clients head be in relation to you? I had cut someone's hair over the weekend & it seemed he was too low for me to maneuver around properly (no barber chair (obviously)).

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  Рік тому

      I hate cutting hair on a normal chair. I prefer to have the clients head at about my chest height. But thats my own preference. Obviously people are different heights, the barber and client are both different heights and the chair as a range of motion on it. Chest height for clipper work is what I prefer and I'll drop the chair down so the top is about chest height when cutting the top. But I've worked with tall and short barbers who don't have the luxury of the perfect height.

      @@theoneminutebarber Obviously my setup at home needs some work. My son's friend showed up with a mass of hair. So much that my Wahl clippers were struggling. I ended up debulking with scissors. Too bad I didn't remember that downward trick with the clipper. Next time 🙂

    Hi! I’ve watched a lot of your videos and have cut my husbands hair a few times now, but I’m still running into the same problem, and hoping you can help. My husband (half Filipino half white) has some very thick and dense hair and he wears it “normal” parted to the right on the top. Every time I do a #4 on all the side parts of his head but then blend it up and cut the top of his hair the side where all of his hair rests looks like it isn’t blended at all! It feels super noticeable and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I leave his fringe a bit longer so it can sweep to the right side but then all the top hair resting to the right makes it look like I used the trimmer but didn’t blend leaving a harsh “line” of hair. Pls help!

    If i wanted use clippers to cut top part of the head (top middle part) in which direction should i use the clippers? From bottom to top or top to bottom?

      That depends on the result you want. If you go with the grain of the hair it will remove density but remain long. If you go against the grain and make the hair stand up into the blade then it will remove length to the length of the clipper guard.

    I tried step #2, blending in the ridge with a 2 guard (6mm) but I chopped of a big chunk of hair leaving an almost bald spot. It's not too bad, but I did what you said in the video...going downwards with a 2 guard. My hair on the sides was 18mm and 42mm on top. I then used the 2 guard (6mm) and downwards but unfortunately I chopped off all that hair. What did I do wrong? Thank you!

      There could be a couple of issues pookie. Is your hair curly? It won’t work on curly hair. Also you have to go in the direction the hit is growing.

      @@theoneminutebarber thank you for your reply. My hair is very straight and I did do it in that direction. Could it be because one of those pointy things on the guard are missing (it broke off some time ago. It's one of those telescopic clippers with two different guards, one from 3mm to 21mm and one from 24mm to 42mm )? Note: this has not been an issue when cutting my hair on the sides and top. Thanks again

      That could be the issue, where the tooth is missing the blade will get slightly closer

    Do you cut the hair on the top of the head first before blending the top of the sides with the clippers @ 3:18 or does it not matter

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  2 місяці тому

      Good question. I tend to cut the sides and try to get it as blended in as possible. But then cut the top after and blend in further. But I’ve seen many barbers cut differently

    do you always use a #2 to take the bulk out? or would it be a larger/smaller for any reason? tysm for the great video

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  Рік тому +4

      I wouldn't go any shorter than a #2. That's the limit.
      You might find that #3 works on longer hair but beyond that it would have little impact. The reason is that the clipper is taking down the density of the hair as it stacks up when laying flat. So even very thick hair rarely adds enough density to get to a #4. Does that make sense?

      @@theoneminutebarber yes! makes sense. tysm!

    Thanks a lot for the video. I have a question. I want to buy a clipper and extra guards online. Can you tell me what I should pay attention to so that the guards snap onto the clipper ?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  10 місяців тому +1

      If you want good guards look for a clipper that features premium guards. Either magnetic or clip on with metal clips at the back.

      Thanks for the prompt reply, very useful information. But my question is different. Do all guards, magnetic and clips, fit all clippers? How do I know which guards fit correctly on the clipper I'm going to choose?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  10 місяців тому +1

      I understand, no unfortunately not all guards fit all clippers. I have found that TPOB, Wahl, and suprent have similar guards and all fit each other however wahl do have different guard systems on some of their machines. My advice is to get a machine that comes with guards.

      This is ideal I just can't find affordable machines with the guards I want. It's all within a few millimeters. With the information you gave me I believe I will find the solution. Thank you very much !!
