  • Bandung, Indonesia.
61 US Cents for a HAIRCUT, MASSAGE & STRAIGHT RAZOR SHAVE? What a deal!
Barber Aji gives haircuts and shaves in Bandung, about 3 hours from Jakarta, under a tree.
This Indonesian street barbershop, beside a canal, has curtains, a roof with a tarp, a small chair, with a small mirror, shelf, and the shaving soap cup nailed into the tree. He gets electricity from the nearby church to power his hair clippers.
I was extremely impressed by his service. Most of us don't even get this good service in our home countries.
He gives a 5 star haircut at a 1 star price. A real barber of the people. Respect to Aji.
This is a DPR barbershop, Dibawah Pohon Rindang, the barber under the tree barbershop -- Cukur Rambut.

@@JasonRuppVlog when you do this do you ever wonder about 'trivial' things like the water this street barber uses (at least to clean his utensils)? Or the blade of the razor? It looks like it can hardly be clean let alone sterile. What would happen if you suffer a [small] cut? Is your body immune against all the possible infections?

Lol 😂. Where are you a “master barber” this hurts just reading the comments. Great for what the guy is doing. But this is exactly what I expect from street corner hair cutting. 60 cents there is probably profitable but here in USA you’d be lucky to get $10 and most people would look at it as totally unsanitary.

@@powwowtrip5748 clearly he is talking about the man's ability not the setup or conditions in the country. And I live in a high cost of living area in the US. I'd pay this guy 60+ for that treatment. Amazing hair cut, clean razor shave, and a head/back massage? You're insane if you think you would get that for 10 bucks here.

So I chose both of those words because they are almost one with each other. Jormungander is a part of the cosmos, in some cases is more than the world serpent. Is a cosmic intrensic web that is connected hense why it eats the tail.
Yggdrasil is the tree that Jormungander swims around, protecting it. Norse men ate shrooms, psyleciben, and that psychoactive substance causes halucinagens. Norse men described, with natural, worldy characteristics, the things they saw.
Many times there'd be places these men/women took worship, and practiced Asatru (Asatru is a modern varient to traditional Heathenry). When performing their traditions, under the influence of psyleciben, norsemen saw things. Waves, snakes, unity, oneness. A lot of stuff, haha.

Hi, Jason. Just discovered your channel and I'm delighted to see the interaction between you and Aji (also the small audience that gathered around that tent). Very wholesome and heartwarming.
Anyway, I'm Indonesian and quite a bit surprised that no other Indonesians have attempted to translate the things Aji said. To provide better context, here's a translation.
(2:53) Aji asked, "What would you like? A haircut?".
(9:55) He said, "Later I will use a razor for this".
(17:39) He asked, "Still not short enough? Should I cut more?".
(18:13) He asked, "Have you stayed long in Indonesia?".
(19:37) He asked, "Would you like me to use 'soap'?". He was referring to the shaving cream. I don't know if he literally used liquid soap or mistakenly called a shaving cream soap.
(26:47) He asked, "Is it enough?".
(29:13) He said, "Minyak sereh. This is called minyak sereh.". Minyak sereh means lemongrass oil and he was telling you that that's what he'll use. The proper spelling and pronunciation of lemongrass according to the dictionary is actually 'serai' (pronounced səraɪ), but 'sereh' (pronounced səreh) is a very common mispronunciation, more commonly used than the correct one.
(34:15) He said with a smile, "It's done".
    (34:33) He said, "Pardon?".
(34:49) He asked, "Do you have smaller bill?". He was surprised you gave him that 100 thousand and at first expected that you wanted change, which he didn't have for that amount of bill.
Hope this is somehow useful. If there's anything of interest that remains untranslated, just show me the timestamp and I'll translate it. Thank you, Jason, for the wholesome and comforting video!

My barber in here New Jersey USA charges $15 (and that's pretty cheap for around here), plus I usually give him a $3 to $5 tip*, and he doesn't do half as much. I'm going to have to show him this video to let him know about the service I could be getting and the price I could be paying if I got my hair cut in Indonesia.
    * In June, for the first haircut I could get because of the pandemic, I gave him $30. It wasn't his fault that I couldn't get a haircut for three months.

Jason Rupp I’m subscribed and look forward to watching it. Your video was put into my feed by UA-cam and I’m glad that watched it. I appreciate your content which demonstrates a clear level of decency and humanity towards others to be very refreshing during this unprecedented period that is occurring all over the Globe. It truly made me appreciate what I have as opposed to what I don’t have. Take good care and I hope that you’re remaining healthy and safe. 🙏🏻

He is a very clean-hearted man, I hope he will have a shop of his own in the future.

this guy could easily charge 30 bucks a cut here in the US with those skills, maybe even more in new york. He has some serious skills.

Moving to LA for my study soon. This is what im gonna miss the most from Indonesia. Barber with massage. In many places you can even ask them to only shave ur beard and get 10 mins head mssge afterwards. All for 50 cents 😂

Aji had great skills, understood blending and symmetry. He also looked clean and had a good vibe. This was one of the better cuts you've had. Jason, I was in a shop every three weeks, but just today was thinking that it might be a year away due to risk factors. What do you think? Best, JP
