I tried this a few times as well as another video. I'm glad I decided on this one. It took me a few times but now it's a breeze. I don't understand when people post their videos they have to go off track and tell their life stories; especially when it's a tutorial. Who has time for that? Thanks for getting straight to the point!

Stuck at home with my wifey and decided to purchase clippers (Andis Pivot Pro) which comes with a trimmer. Looked at about 12 videos over the previous week and viewed your video about 6 times. (Your video was the best - good explanation, great demo and the end product looked great.)Told my wifey yesterday that we are going for it today. (I have never cut my own hair.) Reviewed your video with my wifey one more time, did a dry run (nothing plugged in) and then went for it. My wifey gave my cut a 9 out of 10 and I gave it a 9 as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to put out this video back in 2017 which I used today. Stay Safe.

I dunno man, the guys hair in the video is pretty thin in a few spots. Not sure if it's his natural thin hair or if he buzzed it too much in certain areas.

Very true but you must remember no one is ever going to replace our barber, in my case 10 years with Mr. Tran, so do the best you can. Just take your time try a higher setting (better to cut less then more) so you can get the hang of it. I cut my hair for the 2nd time this past weekend and plan to cut my hair every two weeks to practice. My wifey was around at my request as my safety blanket and second set of eyes. She also finishes the cut using the trimmer around the ears and in the back. Plenty of other tutorials available but this one was a good "fit" for me. Stay Safe!!

I watched about 10 DIY haircut videos. This one was the most helpful by far. In quarantine about a month now, my first haircut turned out so good, I thought I should say thanks. It was nine weeks since I last had my hair cut, so having a vacuum cleaner handy helped.

      Worth trying this I think
If it works you could save yourself 2 or 4 cuts out of 6-8 you do.
      Practice practice practice !!
Tip1: place rubber band around your head at each level you want to stop cutting. Then your hand has a guide at what level to trim too...ensuring things go to plan and aren't unbalanced.
Tip2 : Adjust rubber each time....using mirror ....SLOWLY check and recheck to ensure you look fine from all 360 degrees. Reminds me of quote "always check twice before you trim once"...it wasn't about hair but it fits the need exactly !
Tip3: to correct a crooked cut...you could also use rubber band....adjust rubber band to allow you to cut what needs cutting and no more ?
      Win win solution.
Tip4: you could put a big hankerchief on your head and then rubber band over hankerchief, lift the material and trim up to the line of cloth. Cloth then protects all hair above the line even if your being careful a rogue stroke can not do any damage at all as hair above band will be under the cloth.
Tip4 has a risk - it might create a definite line (if it works great, if not revert to just Tip3 if not Tip2 if not use your hand like video says.
Tip5: If you have a partner to cut your hair the video plus rubber band may be enough to allow an untrained untrusted partner to give you a decent trim from neck up to ears upon eyebrow level around head.
Oooo....I'm excited I wanna try it now !!
      Wish me luck!
UPDATE : I did it got a decent trim sides abd back.
      Lessons learnt :
      - rubber band has to be very loose around head is large band so it doesn't slide off head !! But it does work to some degree as a guide
      - my hair style is like the video guy rather than strokes up cutting hair, I found it more effective to cut in the line of hair follows or is combed. In my case my sides flick more backwards so I stroke backwards as if I'm combing with the trimmer
      - final lesson don't let hair stay flat against the skull lift it up between fingers to get trimmer to cut (obvious realky if your trimming with the grain, as opposed to against the grain like the video man)
Overall...took me a few attempts to get into it so don't give up and BE BRAVE...yes being less does you no favours.

My wife has been cutting the family's hair for over forty years as well as her own. She's self taught and does a very good job. She has saved the family a lot of money and she says that before she started cutting her own hair, she had only four hair cuts herself from professional hairdressers that she liked. She says that, if she messes up, at least she only has herself to blame and it cost her nothing.

Because of lock-down, I did my own last week using my beard-trimmer. I used the 3/4" comb to take about 4" off all over, then took pics with my phone from all angles to find any missed areas. Off with the 3/4", on with the 1/2" for an all-over tidy-up. With my thick hair, I had to remove the off-cuts every stroke, or it clogged.

I like to go up and then out. So you go up then pull away. I do that for most levels. Now the part that is hard is thinning thick areas and the blending, but i am not a barber!

Took me one week to go for it, but I finally did it. Doesn't look that great, but it's a lot more comfortable and a better look than Castaway Tom Hanks. Be warned that it is a lot more time consuming if you have a head full of hair.

      If it went wrong
      Try again ?
Try cutting head in two sittings for larger head. Just ensure you cut in balanced way (a little off left and same of right before back to left). Balanced allows you to stop at any point, also limits the damage you do
Try a friend ask them to have a go (can't exactly do worse than you by your own admission !!)
Smile....is just a bad haircut...it will always grow back in weeks !

@@borntodoit8744 Thanks. I actually tried again after editing. Just the shading in the back, and the front were troublesome, because my hair was so long. I sort of gave up with the back, but front looks good now. Trimmed it little by little with the electric machine as if I were trimming and combing as usual at the same time. I got only compliments now.

A few decades I bought a clipper and it did well! After the second time around, the clipper started to pull the hair at times which it did not the 2 times before. I think I bought the cheapest model. The quality of the clipper is very important!

Wahl had this info: "When your blades start to pull the hair the first thing to try is, Apply two drops of clipper oil to the blades and test cut again. ... It also helps the Clipper run cooler. If your clipper blades are still pulling the hair you will need to replace your blades or alternatively have them sharpened."

I’ve watch a number of these, “how too” video’s on hair cutting. The only thing I can say is not one guy uses a cape to catch the hair. Small hairs itch like crazy!!! Look at that mess! The hair cut is fine but the hair!!!!! I was itching just watching this!!!
