Auntie Hag - "Filthy shadow magic, brings nothing but chains and misery." Me - "Whatcha got in your basement, Auntie? A box of irony?" I kinda like her sass though.
The Auntie ethel storyline is one of the best sidequests in videogames. As a villain she has a great written dialogue and great voice actor. She wears the guise of the old lady well, but she has youthful energy despite how old she is.
I've only done Act 1 so far but Ethel's facial animations somehow stood out to me. Maybe it's because of the different features compared to humanoid characters but Larian has done an amazing job with her.

Just don't worship the God of hags. She is so messed up that hags only do any form of worship to her out of fear. If you have something like a hag fearful you know it be scary.
They patched this so that the hag won’t help you if you only have one good eye. Also, if you go to Volo after getting Hag-Eyed, there is no option for Volo to try to remove your parasite.
they should add another cinematic for volo trying to pick the eye and the magic repeling him and another for ethel hitting the stone with her nail and say that you tried to trick her triggering the battle
I guess it depends. Volo gives you a fake magic eye after he accidentally ruins your real one. I wonder if you use the fake eye if it won't be cursed by the hag that was probably using your character's eye for a nefarious ritual. If you tell the hag to select the fake eye if it won't do what she intends it to do later on in the game.
I think there should have been a persuasion option to ask for what might be helpful and she spills out that she's heard the goblins going on and on about Moonrise Tower and it might be a good place to start looking. So not what you were expecting out of the deal but you got a good clue, which is close enough.
@@combinecommando001 As a hag she'd be extremely disinclined to tell the player anything, even if she somehow knew about Moonrise Towers. If she can pretend she fulfilled the bargain then she 100% would.
@@combinecommando001 Persuasion isn't mind control, you can only convince someone to do something that they might actually do. That said, there are potential ways the player could persuade a hag. For example the player could insist that she hasn't kept her end of the bargain and therefore she owes you. This, combined with a persuade check, could be enough to get her to spill. I'm sure there are other possibilities. Seems reasonable to have some other options as well, since we're really just trying to direct the player to Moonrise Towers. I don't know what they could be though.

Intimidation is making a big bluff that makes people think "do I really want to risk it against that guy?" Deception is basically gaslighting someone into believing something that is objectively wrong or that it was their own idea from the start. For this situation specifically I'd imagine you could do a persuasion, ONLY if you were nice to the Hag by helping her with the brothers and not making a fuss about the pregnant girl.
Y'know seeing this I always wondered why they didn't just try this while having someone at the ready with like a dagger or something to skewer the parasite and take it out. Ethel was by far the most successful actually managing to get the parasite outside of the players head for a brief period, and from there it'd only be a matter of killing the thing before it burrows back into the head
Two things I found interesting are that this might be the earliest you can learn that there's Netherese magic specifically involved with the tadpoles and that they make a point to say that Netherese magic is so fuckity that even a *Hag* as nasty as Ethel wants nothing to do with it.
If you read all the letters around there and diary you know that there is much more to this, and probably also what you did here, either kill her or haggle with her. There is also a way to save the two brothers and Mayrina and to have Mayrina take her husband with her as a zombie. So I am 100% that there is at least 2 more culminations of the story. They also said that alot if not all storylines and choices will have an impact on further acts down the line. Like the thief kids in the grove, or the shadowdruids, and then obviously the tieflings and much more.
@alita8900 I do know this. Might be a spoiler for some. But if you pick up her jars. and use them, it instantly breaks any paladin oath and Shadowheart attacks you. I dunno where that leads because I freaked out and reloaded. But there are def things that can be done that go much deeper.
You can get the surgery with only one eye if you use disguise self. I had her take Wyll's fake eye but nothing interesting came of it. I'm tempted to see if you can have the hags eye removed by volo with the same method.
if you see the hag first and get here eye., you cant get Volo's stealth eye. charecter freaks out screams I only have one eye and makes Volo stop. I have only done it once so there maybe a way around but i didnt find the option.
How is this different than going to the Hag either before or just straight up not having Volo try to do the surgery? I did this scene in Early Access without ever doing the eye surgery scene and this is beat for beat exactly the same. Does that Volo thing even matter for this Hag interaction?
Also.. everything below your head are controlled by opposite parts of your brain sifes. Left brain controls right side body functions and Right side brain controls left side body functions. Taking left eye might hamper right side body stuff. Doubt its a thing but you never know 😁

Volo treats right eye, you chose left for the hag, what's the point or am i missing something? Thought the point was to see her discover that the eye she takes is not real.
With Volo's eye you lose 1 point of intelligence and gain 1 point of charisma. It's permanent buff. In the lower left corner of games UI in this video at the end I show that the buff from Volo's eye is preserved + the buffs from Hag are added

After making it to act 3 with my Rogue/Ranger Assassin, Gloom Stalker to discover that the good looking female in the dream state i made was a trick. I restarted the game made a Dark Urge Monk and are going to kill that damn Mind Flayer.
its cause of having mods on we cant tell whats what by the way. have you played with mods on from the start? cause idk if youre trying not to spoil what the eyes look like but you do get different eyes if you get one from the surgery gone wrong and the hag. seriously was looking to see the two different eyes. i doubt you even knew which was which yourself when you picked the left eye to be taken by the witch cause the mods literally dont show you those modified eyes. big dislike@@RPGGirlUkraine
There is a reason why every sensible praticioner of the arcane arts fears or at least is cautious around netherese magic. It is incredible powerful and unpredictable - as no one understands it. That makes it dangerous. One of Faerun's most powerful mages (I forgot his name) managed to cast the only 12th level spell I know of. He was Netherese and this spell let him steal a god's power. The goddess was Mystra. Ultimately this led to the downfall of the Netherese civilization, as this mortal could not control her power and domain, which was Magic. Spoiler: Gale has a netherese time-bomb inside him. If it explodes, I believe half the continent (or was it a whole city?) will be gone.
@@somnsfabula Correct, and the name of that ancient wizard was Karsus (amogus), he invented the spell Karsus's Avatar, which he then used to usurp the god of magic at the time. Netherese magic is absurdly powerful and difficult to control, after that debacle of Karsus basically stealing Mystryl's (the previous form of the god of magic) power he basically become a god for like 5 minutes before Mystryl used what little energy she had left to permanently cut Karsus off from the weave, and since Karsus was the new god of magic, all magic temporarily failed. Long story short, Karsus's folly is why all magic has been reduced to 9th level and why 10th level and higher spells are no longer possible. To summarize, the fact that our tadpoles have been augmented by Netherese magic means that someone has not only managed to find a way to properly control that magic, they have managed to use it to augment our tadpoles in a way that gives us basically all of the benefits of being a mindflayer without having to undergo ceremorphosis. And I'm willing to bet that mindflayer in the opening cutscene is a key part of that plot.
All of these videos have Ethel saying "that color suits you" but I never see any difference in the eye color, and I don't know what other color she would be referring to. Is it a setting in the game, or just something weird with my non-game eyesight?
@RPGGirl13 did you use a mod for your characters appearance? Ive been seeing so many videos of appearance mods and they look really good but im nervous because ive heard it can mess up your saves, just wondering if you are using a mod for appearances , if you've had any issues?

She doesn't keep her brargains, the deal was: "You remove the parasite and i give you an eye upfront", nothing in the bargain speaks of inhability to do so and to my knowledge th parasite is still there. She says she doesn't do it because it brings chains and misery, not my problem pal, you said you would remove it, better get ready to have an existence in chains and misery hag. If a devil contract was signed the hag would have to pay her debt at the cost of her life until she was able to remove the tadpole. Don't be fooled by hag contracts, stay true to the laws of hell.

The game does speak on why removing it is not a good idea, it is "bound" and if it gets removed or dies it kills you as well

Oh if you still don't know, they probably use a mod to prevent cosmetic changes. In Ethel's case the chosen eye turns milky white and blind.

@RPGGirl13 did you use a mod for your characters appearance? Ive been seeing so many videos of appearance mods and they look really good but im nervous because ive heard it can mess up your saves, just wondering if you are using a mod for appearances , if you've had any issues?
I'm always using mods for appearance and have never experienced any issues because of that 🙂

So...say this is after the volo eye surgery, but your character doesn't have "see invisible"...you sure about that? or was that something they gave it later on?

I still havent been able to use the invis seeing eye despite running into people who use invisibility. The eye is basically useless

Oh most of the armor is normal. What theyve done is toggled it to camp cloths then stripped them to their underwear

Green hags feed on tragedy and despair. There is no good ending to deals made with one.
It's really inconsistent. Some attempts to remove the tadpole actually make it stronger.
She doesn't keep her brargains, the deal was: "You remove the parasite and i give you an eye upfront", nothing in the bargain speaks of inhability to do so and to my knowledge th parasite is still there.
She says she doesn't do it because it brings chains and misery, not my problem pal, you said you would remove it, better get ready to have an existence in chains and misery hag.
If a devil contract was signed the hag would have to pay her debt at the cost of her life until she was able to remove the tadpole.
Don't be fooled by hag contracts, stay true to the laws of hell.

The metal part is a mod, but you can wear that Githyanki bra as top in the native game. Or even play the whole thing fully nude if you wanted.
