  • When it comes to his signature Charvel guitars, virtuoso Guthrie Govan settled for nothing but the best. And after working closely with Charvel's design team, Govan now has two bearing his name - one with a bird's-eye maple top and another with a flame maple top.
    While at a clinic at the Gothenburg Concert Hall in Gothenburg, Sweden, Govan took some time to break down his signature models to a lucky group of fans. Learn more in this feature.

      Dominic Airola thanks for the heads up, what really sells this is all the wood options and detailing. It looks like it was nearly made entirely of wood.

    at 4:39 hes playing with the tremol-no and a broken string! i wonder if that was a "happy accident" or done on purpose to show the tremol-no in action. A simple double-stop would've sufficed haha

      Because with Suhr he was playing production models slightly tweaked for him, and he couldn't do much about it. Charvel was open to the idea of designing a signature guitar from the ground up, and following all of his requests.

      it gets in the way when He's playing around the first fret plus he likes to do the pedal steel licks where you bend behind the nut which you can't do with a locking nut

    • @sacredgeometry
      @sacredgeometry 7 років тому +4

      there are locking tuners and it locks at the bridge.
      Guthrie has stated on many occasions that locking nuts get in the way. He cant use a mute easily, he cant bend the string behind the nut and he he cant quickly detune (he has a tremel-no incase you thought the floating trem would stop him)

    • @franks471
      @franks471 7 років тому +1

      Very rarely have I seen a locking nut that is stable. Who likes it every time you play a chord strings randomly change pitch a few cents? That doesn't fit the definition of stability in my book. On the other hand I prefer fine tuners on the tail piece. Still I'm finding this guitar interesting. 24 Stainless frets? Bone nut? Yeah!!!

      +Kenny Ken He left Suhr in 2013 because they didn't give Guthrie a dime from the sales of his signature models from them, and he wanted to do some things differently (that ended up on the Charvel model) that John Suhr just didn't want to do. Charvel is owned by Fender so that's how the Custom Shop pickups were put in the guitar.

    • @5urg3x
      @5urg3x 8 років тому +5

      +Kenny Ken
      Guthrie is no longer with Suhr. Suhr is still selling the guitars he used, but his name is not on them. Unfortunately, while I absolutely LOVE this Charvel model, the price is downright obscene.

      +Banter is so much FUN
      The prices have come down on the Charvel models...They aren't that bad anymore.
      Yeah, Suhr prices are ridiculous but they are basically custom guitars...You can customize just about every aspect of it if you want, or you can save a couple grand and get one of the ones that are already made...The Satin series I think.

    • @Quicksilver_Cookie
      @Quicksilver_Cookie 7 років тому +3

      I will sound crazy, but for a custom shop Guthrie's new Charvel is...not that expensive :D Looking at some Fender Custom shop models - Gilmour's signature is whole two thousand dollars more expensive.
      It's obviously very expensive for a guitar, but it's nothing out of the ordinary for a signature custom made instrument.
