5 Questions with legendary guitarist Guthrie Govan during a visit to ICMP London Music School. Find out more about our guitar courses: www.icmp.ac.uk/guitar
He makes a lot of sense and comes across as being very open minded. Guthrie could play anything with anyone and he would still do it his way. All we can do is support this hyper talented, modest guy by buying his albums and going to see him live. I've seen him play with The Aristocrats in Edinburgh :) SPECIAL
I would love to see him play, in whatever context, even if it is only a clinic. Unfortunately, his appearances are sparse on this side of the pond, and I'm off the beaten path as it is. Maybe one day!
+Mark Lambert His clinics are by far the cheapest way to get to see him play but he only plays a small amount of music, however what you do actually get is a very intimate environment in a rather small room, you see him from 2ft-3ft away as I did, you actually get to speak with him in a two way conversation, you get lessons, you get little tips, you get a little background info on his influences some of whom you know and some you don't (that is a tip to go check them out for tips too), and you get to have a photo opportunity with him, many somethings that you will never ever get from seeing him live in a band set up in a theatre like with the Aristocrats, Steven Wilson or G3 etc, we had people travelling from abroad come to the clinic I attended last month, I hope you one day get the opportunity to see him in such a setting, it blew my mind more than it did ever seeing him play live in concerts, if you have to then travel far from that beaten track as those foreigners did, you would never regret it, here in the UK I paid £26 to see him live in concert, to see him in a clinic it cost £10, I really want to swear right now to express how awesome that is but I shall refrain....oh ok if you insist, it was fucking awesome !
I love the fact that Guthrie, Bryan and Marco really love playing in The Aristocrats. And they really respect eachother so much. The chemistry in that band and musicality is beyond words :).
+Marius Hjertø (MariusHj) Newsflash, he is ! In fact he is everyones guitar teacher/tutor, much better when it is personal and up close but via video is cool too, my technique has improved very much as a result of Guthrie even though I never play his preferred style.
@@beijaflor9313 Pre Internet I got stressed thinking Guthrie was a basic guitar player and I needed to be better then him. I mainly used his transcriptions of Greg howe and such in the 90s. I worked like a beast on Eugene's Trick Bag but Guthrie didn't explain the original was sped on the film.
He is so spot on about the supergroups. When's the last time a supergroup was as successful as the prior groups in which the super members derived from?
Good ol' Guthers. So personable and ruddy intelligent. How I loves thee and thine utterly enthralling musicianship. A shining example you are Sir. Oh, and I could listen to you both play and speak ad infinitum. Bliss.
I mean you just have to respect this guy.... The way he talks and the way he plays guitar is just out of the world.... His take on things are so out of the way.... Which is why I listen to his music.... You never know what to expect in a Guthrie song... 🔥
+Max DC Guthrie's face is expressive whether he is speaking to you or playing his guitars but when he plays he is actually singing and not pulling faces as most people seem to believe, he told us to predict what note you will play next and to help you predict that note sing that note even if you use indistinguishing sounds as opposed to words.
@@beijaflor9313 It's funny you mention that because my guitar playing started to break through the roof once I realized, I could start to play the cool riffs I would you know say " dun dun duh duhh" but obviously I hear music when I do that. So doing so makes it very easy to "play" notes and "sing" the riffs in my head and leads. very cool insight.
"I tell that's a flaw in my character but it does enable me to riddle out from the question in an elegant fashion" hahaha. I bet he talks this elocuently since he was 3, when he started guitar.
not cool gothrie most kids want to play your songs but not a lot of video lessons you put there to know how to play them even teacher find it hard somtimes haha plz give more videos or someone who can we need someone for helping us your the best gothrie haha
I enjoy listening to Guthrie speak almost as much as I do listening to him play.

Kudos to you for not letting music you do not connect with get in the way of connecting with the man.

Guthrie should have children. His talent needs to be passed on.
I would prescribe Guthrie to aspiring guitarists. Im sure he would too if he wasn't so modest lol
There is god.. And his name is Guthrie Govan! (In your face atheists) jk. haha!
The best band in the world myth failing: Joe Satriani, the Reel Joe Satriani. Look it up.
People always ask dumb questions. Where’s your favourite this of that, who’s your favourite blah blah
