I just played my Guthrie Signature at a Latin jazz combo gig today and I'm playing it tomorrow night in a country band. its an amazing tool if you work hard enough to rationalize owning something that fanfuckingtastic to play on.
I like shovels the ones made in the 80s late 80s 87-88 but the stuff now no second of all if you want to pay for something $3,000 just get you Jackson pc-1 it'll do five times or more what that thing does
These guitars are really fantastic. Now with the single coil switch, it's all you need for any music style you want to. Plus they're crazy comfortable to play. They now come in Ash body or Basswood body with maple top.
I have a question guys (Music Zoo)? Since some people do it different. What is the radius of the trem 16"? Since it's a compound radius board. I have seen them 12-16". Thanks!
The non-fine tuner Floyd is the best. Not sure why Chip didn't just use the shims that are available to make the radius match. I set radius's on Floyd's once a week using the shims. Any insight?
I have a feeling Suhr wasn't ready to build something that needed all these special parts. I mean, design and produce a completely new bridge? Pick ups? Might be they don't even have the resources to do something like this even if they wanted to. Suhr will give you modifications to their existing designs, but probably not something new from the ground up like this guitar.
Well, John Suhr has said in his interview on Tone Talk that one of his now fired operations people was a dick to Govan and that he didn't know about it until it was too late. Govan has said that he liked the Suhr guitars but clearly the guitar from ground up opportunity was icing on the cake of a new group of people to deal with.
"Baked Basswood," Cooked Maple." an interesting combination of people and materials that go into creating a somewhat simple electric guitar. I look at the things that went into recreating a musical instrument that made its first appearance approximately 65 years ago. Today we have a Hipster southern California guitar manufacturer that's part of the legendary Fender Guitar group, a prodigious 44 year old eccentric British guitarist banded together for the Herculean task of reimagining and rebuilding the six string electric guitar. How many times must we revisit the drawing board before its popularly decided that we have come up with a perfectly good guitar? I believe it all harkens back to a simple phrase I wrote down in my journal about 20 years ago where I said; There's no time like the present to imagine the future where you can relive the past..."
mollers92 He's usually more laid back and much more composed on his speech. Here it felt like he was scrambling for things to say, whereas usually the guy speaks like he's writing a book on the go. He just seems very tired to me, which during NAMM is understandable.
Why should Guthrie be eloquent, he's a guitarist. It needs an interviewer to bring him out of himself, and so did the other dude. Clunky and not useful.
It's cool. I've always wanted to try the Schaller Hannes bridge myself but I'm dying for something with an evertune. I noticed your profile picture, looks like a dual terror, how do you like it? I've been thinking about saving for one.
***** I have a vintage NFT Floyd on my main guitar and I promise you it's functionally identical to Charvel's bridge. They tweaked a few aesthetic things (the Charvel has slightly rounded saddles), and matched the saddle radius to the fretboard (I have shims under my saddles), but otherwise it's the same. The Charvel bridge also has a pop-in arm, but Floyd has had that part available for about a year now, so anyone can swap it out on their trem if they want. I think one of the real reasons Charvel went with their "own" trem is because of supply problems. Floyd Rose has been having issues getting parts from Schaller in Germany, and Schaller has been having some quality control issues the past few years (ever since the father died and the son took over.) They just now restocked the NFT Floyds, which have been out of stock everywhere for well over a year. These are at least some of the reasons builders like Suhr and Tom Anderson have switched from OFR Floyds to the Gotoh licensed models: much more consistent quality, easy to get a hold of, and they're just as nice as the Schaller-made OFR's (actually I think they're a bit nicer these days, TBH.) My early-80's NFT Floyd is a solid piece of hardware: there's virtually no wear on the knife edges, the fit and finish is fantastic and even the screws are still in great shape. The only thing I've replaced is the trem arm bushing (the nylon washers wore out on the old one) and saddle blocks. I'm tempted to buy one of the modern NFT Floyds to see what the quality is like, but I'm not holding my breath that it'll be as well-made. Case in point regarding Schaller's whacked QC: when my set of new replacement locking blocks arrived, two of them didn't even have a hole drilled for the lock screw to set into! That's kind of an important feature to completely miss doing, since without that little divot they're useless. It doesn't bode well for Schaller's rep, IMHO.
***** I've been wanting to try one of the Floyd push-in arms, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I prefer the old style "screw in" arms, but the push-in ones look promising (and not a big loss if I don't like it.) Here's the link if anyone else is interested: www.floydrose.com/catalog/upgrades/tremolo-arms/push-in-style-arm
Around 4:15, Chip says Guthrie stuffed “cigarette papers” in the bridge area. Busted! That’s probably one detail Guthrie would have preferred to leave out. Chip is of all over him with production details, It’s Kind of painful to watch.
There's literally videos of him using rolling papers to heighten the strings and play with a slide. So it's no biggie he said that. And c'mon we all know Guthrie smokes some weed
Perfect selection of woods, bridge hardware and pickups, baked maple neck, stainless frets, TremelNo, perfect 5 way wiring, sculpted neck joint - all brilliant! However, such a shame that it's butt ugly! Natural maple body, neck + brown pickups? (the flame maple version is not even nicely book-matched for 4 grand! ) I'm all for functionality, but a just *little* attention to aesthetics wouldn't have gone amiss. Yeah I know, "eye of the beholder" and all that. But really, stand back and take a good look at a photo of one...
Yes, lets buy 2... They are only insanely over priced @ $3500!!! And because we all have that much to spend on a Guitar, wait it's still just a guitar right or dose it fly or something???
beannie60 Nice shit costs money.. If someone wants it bad enough they'll save up until they can afford it. $3500 for a guitar? pro quality violins cost more, and pianos cost ALOT more.
And its only $3500 plus dollars. Wow.... $350 max worth of parts x 10. Nice mark up. I bet Guthrie gets $20 a guitar. Almighty Fender.....Oh wait Charvel I mean Fender I mean FMIC.
With all the break throughs in portable digital audio recording gear, why would they record the sound with an AM radio? I dig the guitar! Guthrie, you're a monster among us mortal men…."cigarette papers.." aka, rolling papers? bahahaha! Right on..
Well Guthries guitar may be good but I would never buy a Charvel. They may have been popular in the 80's but even then they didn't interest me. As boring as this video.
could you just give me a free guitar haha looks tonefull i dont know didnt hear it properly could you give me one in a light wood for my broken back for free
Muscles grow when you use them. Check out 3:43.... The girth of Guthrie's forearms compared to his bicep/tricep.... Mental.
I just played my Guthrie Signature at a Latin jazz combo gig today and I'm playing it tomorrow night in a country band. its an amazing tool if you work hard enough to rationalize owning something that fanfuckingtastic to play on.
Can you upload a version with better audio? Or due to circumstances is this the only audio available?
My phone records better audio than this! WTF? This is Guthrie's new guitar! The video should be top notch!
yes!
I like shovels the ones made in the 80s late 80s 87-88 but the stuff now no second of all if you want to pay for something $3,000 just get you Jackson pc-1 it'll do five times or more what that thing does
Looking at this now, my S21 Ultra does EVERYTHING better, God damn
These guitars are really fantastic. Now with the single coil switch, it's all you need for any music style you want to. Plus they're crazy comfortable to play. They now come in Ash body or Basswood body with maple top.
I've never seen Guthrie nearly speechless.
I have a question guys (Music Zoo)? Since some people
do it different. What is the radius of the trem 16"? Since it's
a compound radius board. I have seen them 12-16". Thanks!
Whats with the audio quality?
so where can I get one of those bridges?
I swear to god chip ages 10 years every namm show like holy. I remember when the frankenstrat replica came out he looked like he was in his mid 20's
What's the song in the background at 7:30?
Guthrie Govan - Fives
Thanks

Yup audio is up the zhazzoo, nothing lower than 1khz there ?
Love the shape of the back and sides..will definitely buy it in a year. $3500 will take long to save.
Mic phase troubles?
looks beautiful guys
I wish they made a more affordable version of his signature, something like Rasmus GG Signature or Sterling JP100. I'd buy one in a heartbeat
They've just released one!
3:00 , guthrie laughing at his own playing
they look like vikings chilling in a tent, preparing for a war
It is a Charvel made to be as close to a Suhr as possible.
and why is he not with Suhr??
they had some disagreement over something which Guthrie doesn't like talking about.
Guthrie hasn't been with Suhr for over two years now, although he won't discuss why (that makes him pretty classy in my book, though!)
I have a feeling Suhr wasn't ready to build something that needed all these special parts. I mean, design and produce a completely new bridge? Pick ups? Might be they don't even have the resources to do something like this even if they wanted to. god dammit i love you Guthrie
:O... could there be a MIM version of this guitar?
5:37 aaaaaaand my b string is gone
5:33 major scale by bending one note. :D
Half a major scale but still so cool!
6/8 of a major scale. (:
This guitar is killer....wow...

Man this was an awkward video. I don't know if Guthrie is just tired from NAMM, but there were a few awkward silences.
I think that's just kind of how Guthrie is. Comes across quite intense and serious, probably half the reason he's got to be as good as he is haha
mollers92 He's usually more laid back and much more composed on his speech. Here it felt like he was scrambling for things to say, whereas usually the guy speaks like he's writing a book on the go. He just seems very tired to me, which during NAMM is understandable.
pot is legal in california ;)

that's just how tired old farts talk
OMG THAT BUZZ
Want that bridge but they'll sadly never sell it separately :(
***** it's the bridge it was based on, it's functionally the same. It's the closest thing you can get, I was just trying to help the guy out.
It's cool. I've always wanted to try the Schaller Hannes bridge myself but I'm dying for something with an evertune. I noticed your profile picture, looks like a dual terror, how do you like it? I've been thinking about saving for one.
good to know, i'll check it out and see. It's cheaper too.

Soooo....where do you get it? Seems great but I'm sure it's probably like thousands of dollars
Music Zoo 🙇🏻
Özgür Özcan ...?
You can get it at Music Zoo..
only high frequencies so it sounds like your headphones aren't in all the way

Jesus ... those bends !
4:51 thats some weird pinky movement from guthrie
Jeffrey of JET Guitars has been putting "the jack on a tilted area" for over a decade.
Audio. Can barely hear them.
Mmm that midband sounds goooooooooood.
Its called Guthrie Interviewing green man
I extremely want this guitar but I know I would be kicked onto the couch............worth it!
I feel were doing something illegal watching this vid. its like were listening from the dark

Billy Cosmosis Well that’s just like, your opinion man
the price on this guitar is so high! I'm so sad...!!
Yes, lets buy 2... They are only insanely over priced @ $3500!!! And because we all have that much to spend on a Guitar, wait it's still just a guitar right or dose it fly or something???
+beannie60 You pay all the hand labor that's behind a custom instrument, top notch guitars are on the details (fortunatly or unfortunatly)
its from the regular production, nothing fancy or special. but with a big price tag.
beannie60 Nice shit costs money.. If someone wants it bad enough they'll save up until they can afford it. $3500 for a guitar? pro quality violins cost more, and pianos cost ALOT more.
Bad interview...but awesome guitar
I prefer Gotoh 510 T bridge
If only i could shell out $5000+ for a guitar ; _ ;
excruciating video sound picking on my brain, can't take it I gotta go
And its only $3500 plus dollars. Wow.... $350 max worth of parts x 10. Nice mark up. I bet Guthrie gets $20 a guitar. Almighty Fender.....Oh wait Charvel I mean Fender I mean FMIC.
let the man talk, dammit.
Looks like 2 homeless guys talking about guitars

Terrible job interviewing - can't blame Guthrie. Like how are the PUPS configured ? They never actually discussed it.
$3500.00 for this guitar? Are you kidding me?
EADGGuy Compared to other instruments like the violin, double bass, saxophone, piano, etc, a $3500 guitar isn't much.
Wow this audio is shit and I'm 14 seconds in....holy fuck who had the balls to even post this.
Where would Guthrie find cigarette papers?????????????
Why is the sound so bad on this video? Hum....
ok people the audio is crap, no need to say it a quintillion times. LOL
Why is the audio so shitty?
Such thin body. Almost like an Ibanez S series
The Music Zoo. You should be ashamed of this video.
Well Guthries guitar may be good but I would never buy a Charvel. They may have been popular in the 80's but even then they didn't interest me. As boring as this video.
He must be a fucking nightmare to work with.
Please turn off your amp... that electric humming in the background throughout is maddening.
Impossible, son. This is pre-recorded and time travel is the stuff of science fiction.
The Suhr was better
Well....that was awkward.
could you just give me a free guitar haha looks tonefull i dont know didnt hear it properly could you give me one in a light wood for my broken back for free
