- Introducing the NEW Guthrie Govan Signature MJ San Dimas® SD24 CM
The guitar virtuoso dives into the latest iteration of his made in Japan signature Charvel model.

-----
Whether it's his solo work, his sonically diverse collective The Aristocrats or his collaborations with the likes of Steven Wilson and Hans Zimmer, Guthrie Govan is known as one of the most skilled guitarists in the world.
The U.K. virtuoso is truly a master of all genres, deftly skirting between rock, jazz, prog, metal, classical and everything in between while somehow making it sound 100-percent unique to him.
His technical prowess and other-worldly feel is the result of decades of devotion to an instrument he first picked up as a young child.
“I was 3-years-old when I started playing, but it wasn’t really a conscious choice,” Govan said. “It was a case of growing up surrounded by music being played in the house and seeing a nylon string guitar propped up in the living room.
“So, it was the most natural thing in the world to start learning how to operate the thing.”
With the latest iteration of his signature Charvel San Dimas, Govan feels that he’s found his perfect playing partner. Featuring a resonant basswood body and Three-Tone Sunburst ash top, caramelized bolt-on maple neck and specially wound custom pickups, the Guthrie Govan Signature MJ San Dimas® SD24 CM is as adaptable and dependable as its namesake.
“Teenage me would be really happy to know that one day I would end up with a signature guitar, but it also comes with a kind of responsibility,” Govan said. “I think if you are going to have your name on the back of a headstock of an instrument, that’s you personally vouching for the quality and usability of that instrument and it’s not something to be taken lightly. I have a guitar that I am completely confident to take anywhere in the world and do any kind of gig with. Anyone out there who has heard the kind of thing I do and the way I blend different styles or the way I need to access different tones, if that’s something that resonates with you, I can only cordially invite you to try one out. Should you find one of these in the wild, who knows, you might just like it!”
Watch Govan dive into many of the key features of the latest iteration of his signature San Dimas in this video.

Guthrie looks like he's ascended to an elder god. What an honor to see him.
He went from looking like Jesus to looking like God
I'd say he's back as Guthrie the White
That’s since he fought the Balrog, “Run, you fools!”
@@RoeyHaviv actually "Fly, you fools!", unless you meant that GG gave the quote his own flavour ;)
He is jesus
This man is as articulate with his words as he is with the notes he plays.
i was just thinking that, amazing dude
he has like a bachelors in english from either oxford or cambridge if my memory serves me right
@@chadmarx7718 I looked it up on Wikipedia and he studied English Lit at St Catherine's college, Oxford U, for only a year before dropping out to pursue music professionally. I happen to have an actual bachelor's degree in English, and I can tell you it does nothing to improve my eloquence when I have to speak off the cuff. GG's a natural. God only knows what else he excels at in life.
@@patricklow5652 i stand corrected
There is probably a correlation between that. From what I have noticed most musicians seem to have an affinity for eloquence.
Love seeing Guthrie Govan Greying gracefully into the Gandalf of Guitar
This may well be his final form, time will tell.
You could've added govan in there for extra alliteration...
@@ejRecording Yo I didn’t even realise I had done that
He's so great he skipped grey and instantly became Guthrie the white "You....shall not...pass!! My level of guitar skill."
@@leejlogan LOL
"A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to" Guthrie Govan 2022
I re searched the video on my phone just to like this comment
this is my line when I show up to work late
Mannn i haven't seen gg on youtube for so long!! So glad hes doing well and delivering a new beast into the world
I was gonna say....the last time I saw him on here, he hadn't gone grey yet, haha. Looking good though
Seeing him aging just broke my heart …. He’s the next Zappa 10x
@@itsurwrld633 why? He gets better with age
@@elpolitemexa2272 never said he doesn’t . You just assumed what I meant by that comment . All I implied was that it makes me sad to see him getting older . Goofy
@@itsurwrld633 leave that sadness to his family and friends, if they want to be sad about it in first place
since we last saw him, Guthrie has ascended to being a white wizard it seems.
Yes, Guthrie the white. Better than ever.
Guthrie is continuing his evolution into Gandalf
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is the best presentation of a signature guitar ever.
@merkaba987 I don't know that video. But alright: 'the best presentation of a sig guitar *I* have seen'
@merkaba987 I didn't think you were ;p
If you got a link or title.. you made me curious
would have been nice if we got to hear him fucking play it lol this was shit.
Seeing Guthrie with grey hair got me shook right now. It just now reminded me that I discovered this guy when I was roughly 20 and I turned 30 only a couple weeks ago. Oh how time flies.
This man is an absolute legend. The way he talks, the way he plays, he's just one of my favourite people that i've never met.
If you do get to meet him ever, he's just as articulate, mellow and facking hilarious as you'd imagine him being.
Without doubt the best guitarst to have ever lived. So far.
His solos on Steven Wilson's albums are some of the best ever composed.
I can appreciate his playing while not being a massive fan of his music. HOWEVER - this guy is not only one of the best teachers but also just an allround super nice dude. Always love watching him play or explain concepts. Easily one of the best guitar/music personalities to ever walk the earth
I'm in a similar situation, in that I can see his playing and skill is insane yet I don't always like his sound or his stylistic choices, but even within that I still like much of his work.
One of a kind. As bright in composing and playing as he is insightful and cordial. Stellar human being. Long live Guthrie Govan!
La fel poți spune și despre Shawn Lane sau Jason Becker...ori poate un Tony MacAlphine...cei mai mari chitariști din lume
Guthrie really needs to release a new solo album. As a fan of him I'm getting tired of hearing the same songs from his one 2006 album.
I present to you ... The Aristocrats
@@Kyrelel I enjoy them, but for some reason the music in this video is mostly from his solo album
This.
Indeed, that first album is amazing to....
You may try listening to “West coast grooves” bro. A pretty short album but brilliant. It was a collaboration between JTC and Him where JTC sent him 10 2 and a half minutes long tracks and he just improvised like an articulated Mad god. Worth a listen bro. :)
A treasure of a man.
The Master. I first heard of GG back in the early 90's when he used to write and transcribe for Guitar Techniques magazine. Been a fan ever since.
So cool!
Me too! Although it was a 2002 GT mag in which I heard him play a solo in the styles of Walter Trout, Jeff Healey, and Rory Gallagher. I had never heard anything like it, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor, then listen to it another twenty times. It’s quite unheard of to play a guitar magazine CD alongside one’s favourite albums, but I sure went through a phase of doing that.
Love the thought that's gone into this! Hope to find one in the "wild". Congratulations all round. 👌
Please bring Guthrie back for more JTC sessions.
Please find someone who can make him a Godly guitar...looks like a regular guitar.
@@guitaristteacobouy Didn't you hear about the magical properties of FOAM? smh
I like how he went with a darker color this time. Beautiful guitar. Haven't seen Guthrie in a while. Looking cool with the grey. I dig it. Love that guy.
Guthrie it's literally been years since we've seen a new video of you, we need more!!
Finally found one in the wild, it arrived Monday. It’s a beautiful instrument, cannot stop thinking about it at work. And playing it all night. Thank you guthrie
MIJ Charvels have always been by far some of my favourite guitars - especially those 80's Model models. Will never help me come close to Guthrie's master skills, but still a joy to play for any level player.
im so happy to see him on the internet again very classy and wise guy
I've been waiting for info on this for sooooo long now, can't wait to get one!
So great to see Guthrie again! Haven’t seen him in a video in a long time. This guitar looks amazing.
Already ordered in August 2021 - eagerly awaiting delivery in April 🔥🎸🧡
Guthrie is a phenomenon, truly an inspirational legend. I wish I would have discovered him much earlier in my life.
It warms my heart that Guthrie still has the passion to embark in new projects like this. I'm so glad we still have decades and decades ahead of Guthrie's incredible talent.
so happy to see you back on UA-cam!
Hands down one of the best modern day guitarists out there
This man's solo on Steven Wilson's Drive Home is quite possibly the best guitar solo I've ever heard. One of my favorite guitar players of all time. I've never been a "signature guitar" kinda guy, but I'd definitely consider getting his.
is that the song starting fro 4:27?
long time no see
I could just listen to him for hours explain the most basic stuff and its still nice
Absolutely amazing guitar for an incredible guitar player GUTHRIE GOVAN 🎸 🎸 🔥🔥
This video has everything I like, which is Guthrie playing and Guthrie talking
I got to meet him, I was star struck. He’s been influencing my playing for almost a decade, so humble and wise. He’s the best
Congrats !!!
Guthrie is a monster player and well deserving of his own signature model! I definitely want to check one of these out and maybe add it to my collection. Charvel guitars are great. The first one I bought was an '88 model 3DR, way back in 1988 and I still have and play it to this day!! Most reliable and best sounding guitar I've owned.
I picked up a Charvel DK24 this year and its no joke… A quality instrument can really break the barrier between your natural movements and hitting the notes in the perfect spot.
I hadn’t played in maybe 4 days when i got my Charvel, but when i played it I was playing better than i had in months. Beautifully crafted instrments
Congrats on this new model Guthrie. That thing looks fabulous
Truly brilliant player!
I Never use the word Greatest (because it's all subjective) but I honestly believe: he is in a small handful of the Greatest guitar-players to ever walk-this-earth. He is an absolute monster player. Love this guy. He inspires me to Practice-more. Phenomenal musician. oNe LovE from NYC
He's not Allan Holdsworth, but he plays in so many styles so well.
This was Guthrie at his most serious from everything I have ever seen with him.
The guitar looks nice for sure
Classiest, most eloquent signature guitar showcase.
my goD!!!!!!!! that improvisation over waves is just mind blowing!!!!
Guthrie is amazing
Strange to see him with gray hair, I like to think guitar heroes don't age like the rest of us :( I want him to be around forever
he looked the same as his brother with that gray hair now xD
@@hiraprxc.7141 That was my thought as well. He looking more like Seth Govan lol
What grey? Looks more white than grey
It's strange, he would look much younger with bald head. The hair looks "older" than the face if you catch my drift
Yeah agreed, he looks seventy here.
I reckon he should get rid of that hair and beard.
Beautiful guitar for a great player!!!
Usually I get to see older videos of Guthrie and now with a little bit of shock I see him almost completely turned white hairwise ... geez ... just a few more years he'll probably is going to look like being the wizard that he actually is
Guthrie Govan is one of the best all-around electric players with a pallet of some of the best sounds I've ever heard. Jeff Beck meets Eric Johnson meets Pat Martino meets Alan Holdsworth...and then becomes something more than the sum of it's parts. Gee WHIZ I admire this guy's playing. And he looks like Ian Anderson SHOULD have looked as he got a bit older!
Great work Guthrie as always!
Simply a beautiful guitar, I have two 8th batch charvel USA models, I love them dearly.
The first time they brought out the Charvel Govan sig, I tried one at a guitar show and it was hands down the best production electric guitar I've ever tried. Thing played like butter.
Sounds brilliant Guthrie, can't wait to try one.
Love seeing updates on Guthrie :')
amazing instrument by a talented genius guitarist
Incredible player. Incredible guitar. I'm going to go buy one right now!
(looks at price)
Ah, if only that that brown color was 0.5% warmer, I would've totally bought it, but it's just not my thing!
Get the MIJ Dinky....only 200 bucks less...
Get the Charvel mim. Lovely. I have one😊👍🏿
Same reason I had to pass on that new Ferrari----the red tint was just a hair off.
@@carlsanders7824 🤣
The last 3 seconds of the video say © Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. I thought the Fender Custom Shop in America is meant to be the apex of solid body guitar manufacturing. Is Charvel Made in Japan an even higher super-ultra-club of guitar craftspeople?
this makes me want to purchase 69 of these
Nice
Yo SHRED!!!!!
Not metal enough. Get 666.
One of the better promos I’ve seen!
beautiful guitar!
Charvel please share with us this full session of Guthrie playing. PLEASE
I really hope Charvel starts making lower price point models with Stainless frets
Beautiful guitar
Man dropped one solo album and dipped and is still regarded as one of the best to ever do it
He's taken his final form
"You should have an enjoyable friction-free life as you bend and whammy yourself into oblivion".
When this man talks its pure poetry, I guess that's what he imparts into his unspoken guitar vocabulary (yeah nah, tried to imitate him but didn't work)
Guthrie is great I first heard of him when he worked Guitar Techniques , he was on the CD every month transcribing and teaching songs , learnt alot from Guthrie
Missed you, buddy
That does look like a most magnificent instrument. I imagine it's rather expensive, but would be worth every penny - if one instantly played like GG upon purchase...
About u.s. dollars...... 3500! Buy now, livetime Player!
I can attest that Guthrie is truly as nice in person as he comes across. Congrats on the guitar Guthrie, it’s well deserved. Cheers. 🎸👍🏻
so can i
Wonderful player....watch listen and learn
Between the Aristocrats PG rig rundown recently released, and this walkthrough video, we are seeing a decent amount of Guthrie. Love this for us.
The greatest guitarist of ALL TIME. No person has the chops Guthrie has. He can play anything at any time.
Even though I agree to a point, event he can not be compared with an average concert pianist. I said an avarage, not lang lang.
He's great. But no one ever will top Shawn lane for me
@@keeperofthereign What's even the point of your comment lol did you just want to disagree ?
@@ryadachaibou8098 Exactly. I am tired of people making a God out of Guthry who have no idea about classical music. I am also a fan Guthry fan but there are limits.
@@keeperofthereign Guthrie is indeed a god on the guitar. An average concert pianist can not be compared to him either. I don't see why it bothers you to hear people say he's a virtuoso.
Very Nice and beautiful guitar mate!😊the caramelized neck with the stainless steel jumbo frets are simply gorgeous...plus the 2 point trem which looks like a combination of Floyd and strat is really cool. And played by the man himself Guthrie whom I still consider the "best" modern guitarist at the moment. (sorry Tosin, sorry Tim, sorry Kiko, sorry Steve and Joe, etc)😅....Guthrie still holds that cake. To Charvel company, please do continue to endorse this man. He's a great Charvel standard bearer...
I just have one important request: could you please send the man a supply of pancakes with syrup and a bottle of Vitamins and Minerals? He's too good in playing/ focused in guitar and performing that he seems to have forgotten the importance of eating. 😉.please do take care of the 70 year old man. He's a musical treasure. Cheers!🤘
@Kirk Whammet - Guthrie is endorsing Charvel, not the other way around.
I bought and received this yesterday. Plays like a dream sounds like a dream
So nice to see him again
By now everyone should know that Japan made guitars are top notch and hold their value well 🙂
Top notch, yes. Hold their value well, not so much, unless special sought-after limited edition..
@@Masterfighterx Agreed, ESP and Ibanez MIJ even today lose value a lot more than PRS or Music Man as an example.
@@MaestroJericho How many MIJ PRS and Music Man guitars (not their Bass) do you know of?
@@comment.highlighted When did he state that PRS and MM was Japanese? He compares them to how the 2 biggest Japanese brands hold up to 2 big (but not the biggest) murican brands.
@@Masterfighterx We’re watching a Charvel guitar demo on a Charvel Channel. Maybe I’m referring to the multiple manufacturers that make Charvel guitars and the MIJ ones hold their value well. We can discuss other brand names and manufacturing plants all day long and get nowhere, but I’m talking about Charvel 🙂 Edit: Funny thing, now that I think about it… I actually like my MIM Charvel Hardtail better than my American Fender Elite and use it way more often. Great guitars are great no matter where they come.
Caramelized maple? Sounds delicious. Guthrie is a genius.
Next release, the frets are bacon strips
@@futile-evenings a guitar made of bacon, why is this not a thing
How can we not love this guy! What a gentleman and master musician.
What a beautiful guitar!!! Really nice taste !!!
4:25 that chord tho.
The truth is that a £ 300 guitar would sound great when played by him.
he is literally a wizard now
he is a sensational guitarist. I would love to be able to play like him. so clean
The bend 0:08 and 4:23 chords are fucking awesome. Got me goosebumps 🥵
There's something comical about the face he makes
Whats the song at 4:23
@@samarsalan9897 it’s ner ner.
I love Guthrie and already ordered this guitar back in September, and STILL waiting on backorder. Any word on when this thing will finally see the light of day?
I have two of the USA models I bought years ago. When ordering new guitars in October, I inquired with my Charvel dealer out of curiosity. It's The Music Zoo on Long Island, who are Charvel's darling USA dealer. My salesperson said the MIJ models were expected to "in January - February". So you shouldn't have long to wait, barring any delays that have crept in until now.
Congrats Guthrie, couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy. -John from Vancouver 🤘🏻😝🇨🇦
Most humble sales talk ever.
A word from Guthrie the Wise!! 😂
Don’t care about the guitar, I wanna know what that pick is.
My dream guitar! Right there 🙌
the legend himself!! what a genius
2:33 "nutshopping" 6:01 "should you find one of these in the wild" the way he comes up with words and sentences is exactly how he plays
Congratulations 🎊👏 👏 That's awesome 🔥
Ayyy! The silver hair really work for you man. And that new guitar is absolutely gorgeous.
An absolute legend
A really beautiful functional instrument, this is a serious contender....
Great Video! Ordered :) Always wanted to try a charvel and this one seems to have all the specs I like
good to see the man back
What a great video. Guthrie is so eloquent and in tune (pardon the pun) with his music.
The king is back!
