Man, what a band and musicianship! Drummer, bass player, keys and soft beautiful voice of the vocalist ...All perfect!! It was a pleasure to hear them in this jam. Thanks for sharing it
I've heard by so many others speak about how lucky we have been to live in the time of E.V.H. and yes we were but Guthrie truly is the Nikola Tesla of music and he is also a true poet at his art and I truly believe the world is better for it i'm always pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns his musical journies take us on and were they end up and to top it off he is a Master teacher and still student of the art !!! I heard him once speak about being a writer or a musician and life took him into this directions but I would honestly disagree with that because in my book he is a superb writer ! / Story teller !
Allan Holdsworth is the Tesla of guitar. Guthrie is great but Allan is on a whole different level. Guthrie hits a target that nobody else can hit, Allan hit a target nobody else knew existed.
The band members need equal props, that bassist is f++kin wicked, keyboard, drummer everybody else... Its more than an egotistical, ' backing track. lol
@@Finn-fq6dt I´ve pretty much single-handedly listened to only guitar based music for the last 5 years, and I´ve played for 7 years myself. I´m familiar with the greats. Holdsworth, Gambale, Timmons, Friedman so on. Guthrie´s imrpovising though, is firmly on another level, melodically, harmonically and technically.
You couldn’t be more off base and Guthrie would tell you that himself. Listen to flat tire or any of Allan’s live shows. He sounds like he’s got different notes than everybody including Guthrie. Guthrie lines are milk toast and easy to understand what’s going on compared to Allan’s alien vocabulary. Allan is on a whole different level Guthrie would tell that you much
@@Finn-fq6dt I do agree that Allan certainly has some exotic alien-like lines that are unlike anything else. City nights would be a good example of that. Allan is obviously a fantastic player. I've seen a lot of Allan's live shows, I've been to many of Guthries shows. Guthrie is a technically better improvising player. I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. "What Guthrie would say" is a poor argument, he's the most humble guy there is!
@@emmanuelarinze22511000% there is dude. Scarey the talent out there. Just think Guthrie has the widest array of skills and improvisation. Just my opinion.
Guthrie played with Asia for some time, you've heard? That's the top shelf of artistry and musicianship right there. So thrilled to be able to enjoy their music.
btw. , did anybody notice the also fantastic synthesizer sound and solo ? (and the atmosphere in the beginning is so stunning- could have listened to it without solos for much longer...)
@04:42 he just faded his legato phrase with just the softest touch coz why not. This chord progression ain't the hardest but had more soul and feel to it. Still the best improve player and still the best p4p out there hands down.
England has so much to be proud of, but Guthrie man.... I can't help but imagine a long and ancient line of minstrels and king's court entertainers over the last 2000 years passing their genes down down down to distill.... Guthrie Govan.
@@ZippyLeroux Just a wee reminder he has Scottish blood flowing in his veins too as his father was Scottish and you can't get much more Scottish than GOVAN. I'm quite sure many will be back tracking to try and claim a wee part of this magnificent musician and I don't blame them at all. Peace.
@@ChicTumshy Quite right you are sir. My humble apologies. Though to me, the difference is ultimately cultural and historical; the Scottish and British isles gene pool is sufficiently ancient, small, isolated, and intermixed, as to make no genetic difference to the production of a 50 something year old master musician. Excuse me while I DUCK for cover after this comment lol!
@@ZippyLeroux He! He! I'll duck with you. Hey Zippy no need to apologize as I understand your enthusiasm to embrace Guthrie and adopt him as your own (think I'm describing myself here or am I describing most guitar oriented musicians?) Ultimately, I think I must agree with many commentators on the Tube that he is not of this earth. Have fun.
What he is trying to explore now has been lain groundwork already in the past by Pat Metheny, Jean Luc Ponty, Steve Khan, Larry Carlton etcetera so he is just continuing a very high end jazz fusion genre in his own voice
Its amazing that even other genres in music close Guthrie and his music in their hearts and music! This is the meaning of music IMO! Learn of eachother and respect other mucicians...... ore am i getting deluded? 🥳👏😊😊
Of course Guthrie could play by himself and it sounds good but to me having a full band with an extra keyboard or guitar brings out the soul in the music.
And we wonder why no other guitarist wants to jam with him...Matteo maybe but he is just a mega level above any old school, new wave schredders, players of any style....well you know what i mean...
He just doesn't know how to let a solo breathe! Always 20 billion notes that are so forgettable... He needs to take a page out of his namesake Guthrie Trapp and Tom Bukovac to understand to leave space and nuance! Phenomenal player but stylistically very dull.
Every single note played here has its place and definitely not forgettable. This what makes him unique in fast paced playing. He plays an entire 1.30 min long slow part in the solo at the beginning of his lead part, every single note emphasised! And when the moment is right bpm goes up, just like humans, sometimes you talk slowly sometimes you talk fast when you get excited. When they told Mozart ‘too many notes’ he went Mozart: ‘ no there as many as needed’. I recommend you to watch other video of him playing an eastern melody.
@@PamaPamapop I've been watching him for years, he's a supreme talent there's no question. Every solo he does, aside from perhaps the music he interprets for others has a part that includes some ridiculously fast run of the sort he always throws in. If you watch other renowned 'great' players they all mix their solos up. In some cases there's no solo at all, or it's just a part to embellish the music that doesn't require flourish. Guthrie is without doubt one of the best technicians playing today, but he's predictable in the sense of knowing at some point in the song there will be a run that includes hundreds of notes that you can barely decipher and that makes him frustrating to listen to for me personally.
Once you said 20 Billion notes … that’s when you lost all respect …you skipped the fact that it took years to play every note to perfection …you are so far behind the the modern guitarist you might as well stop listening
Holy shit! Anybody want to buy some guitars?
