Dalton's shirts are almost as good as his work 😂 this has honestly been one of my new favorite UA-cam channels to watch, it's nice to see some cars get paint on them instead of just buffed rust! Your kid is lucky to grow up fixing old cars and learning something more than using Snapchat 🤙
They are impressive shirts and what's even more impressive is they aren't covered in filth, somehow whenever I'm wrenching I get completely covered in filth
Glad to see you’re back on the Torino. If you want to wake that 400 up some more for cheap, swap the timing set out for a set for a 1970 351 Cleveland. All 351M and 400 car motors had a timing set that retarded the camshaft 8 degrees. They did that for emissions. But it hurt the power output also
That is very, very interesting. The 400 is so underrated and such a good engine. I drove one from 1997 to 2007 everyday with an Edelbrock dual plane intake and Holley 600 vacuum secondary 4bbl carb . Still have the car and the 400 but EVERYTHING is so worn out.
@@PatandDoopypoopy Well Dalton @PoleBarnGarage isn't wrong. The 400 is a good engine but it is limited by it's open chamber heads and low compression. The pistons are way down in the hole like a Ford 360 is. The 460 is a better designed engine with more potential. I'm doing the same thing. I'm replacing my 400 with a 460. More power and better fuel mileage. I have Summits version of the 268H cam in my 400 and it's ok but the stock cam with a straight up timing set pulled better from idle to 2000 rpms or so. With his 3:25 gear he is better off to stay with the stock cam and just put a straight up timing set on it.
@BlackLabGarage Yes agreed. I wasn't comparing to the very superior 429 460 engine. Built several. My simple failed point wS the 400 really responds to cam and good chain. Hindsight I shoulda quietly moved along. And the 8.1 comp is great for 87 gas. Tighten up the cam lsa helps cranking comp.
I really like how Dalton does his videos really easy to follow what he's doing, and JD is a legend already really appreciate your channel,no BS and done with great humour
Ya can't complain bout she pulls better, will undoubtedly be more reliable and to top it off you got a free bucket, and like you said JD is a great help. Great Job 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Awww the torino in the Video editing live stream which was awesome and entertaining I been looking forward this finalized video nice work as always Dalton @Pole Barn Garage
I know you're not too fond of the ol 400 but with an off the shelf cam whether you go with an "RV" grind or a light street cam, some headers, and work the heads just a touch, she'll really wake up with what you've already done. You'd need at least a 600 carb on there, a 750 would be better if you tuned it to sip the fuel until you push your foot through the floor. That's what I did with mine and it absolutely shreds my tires if I get into it. It also just sounds great which is half the fun. They do also like a little more compression. It's just a big 351C, taller deck height and I think we all know that Clevelands are most gooder than a lot of stuff out there. Absolutely love the car. Most gooder, most gooder.
@@PoleBarnGarage Hi there l was wondering if you can help me out to get hold of your friend Kevin the junk yard dig because he got 2 Datsun that l really like and l wanna buy both car and 280z l wanna fix for my and got give the car and drive it the last time and he is old. Thanks
Dalton another great video buddy. JD was trying to help and he’s learning by watching. Extremely funny. Loved the explanation of removal of rear axels. Lots of extras from Carburetor to Distributor and rear end. Very cool 😎 Thanks for sharing 💯👊👍
The 400/351M probably get the most hate of any of the old Ford V8’s… that one sounds pretty good. I know simply swapping out the timing set in them for a performance one makes a big difference
I smiled at the point where you're pulling the old distributor out and marking the old intake where the rotor is pointing perhaps forgetting that you're replacing the intake too. ;-) Great content!
Dalton ever since i found you and kevin on u tube i tune in evry time i see that you guys are up to something new, The Torino is awesome, Ford made some cool cars back in the day. I can see the joy on your face when you were driving, having your son along makes it special for you. You are passing on your Knowledge to him so he can continue the legacy of your family, Keep up the good work!
Love seeing the Torino! Reminds me so much of me and my dad working on Torinos and Mustangs back in the 80s/90s. We had several ‘73 Gran Torino Sports; one had a 351C 2V, another had a 351W 2V, still another had a 302. Definitely one of my favorite UA-cam channels! BTW, I could smell that rear end swap through my phone!
This car brings back some memories. My first car was a 1972 gran torino squire station wagon with the same engine and the one year front grill. I bought it used in 84. Loved that car
I bought a 1973 Gran Torino Sport back in 1976. Same color blue with blue lazer stripe, white vinyl top. Great driving car, 351C 2V so not a lot of power, but I really enjoyed it. In the 80's I swapped the block for a four bolt main, 4V closed chamber heads, four barrel and hooker headers. Wow what a difference. Now I have a '73 Mach 1. 4V closed chamber heads are a lot harder to find these days!
I just picked up a 75 Gran Torino. It looked kinda special so i had some Marti Reports done. Its special all right. 1 of 1 ever built. Just up here in MN.
Hey man, thanks so much for being the kind of guy who recommends good tools and products in your videos. I’m replacing the intake manifold gaskets on my F-100 and have been a bit frustrated using flat-bladed scrapers. I picked up that Titan carbide scraper and holy cow what a big difference. Scraping off the old gaskets and carbon and gunk is suddenly going way faster! Cheers bud.
I have been enjoying the videos on the Torino. My mother who is deceased had one like this but red when she was a teenager. I only have two photos of it from the side and the rear in backgrounds of old photos. She used to tell me she'd chase guys around the town circuit with her 351 Cleveland. Before I was born, she supposedly caught my dad with another woman in a bar and chased him with it. He jumped behind some bushes and she ended up in a drainage ditch totaling it. True story (what I was told anyways 😂). But makes me think of my mom. Thanks Dalton.
Went with my Pop to the Ford dealer in 73 and we picked out a Green Metal flake Ranchero same body style. Same wheels. Same engine. Dad loved that Ranchero Great Job Dalton
Had a 73 Gran Torino Sport with a wimpy 351W. Same color with the laser stripe too. Was kind of rusty. New England winters! Love to see you and your son wrenching on it. I'll be watching.
The, old timer, theory of the valley baffle is to keep the heat off the intake manifold. With the thermostat heat at the bottom of the manifold oil splashing will eventually cause a build up of carbon, pieces fall into the engine internals, blocking oil passages, causing other harm. The throttle cable has its own spring, usually they include things in universal kits that might be needed on other applications.
Previous owner put 4:56 in my 86 Z28 305 auto and there horrible gears, yes it'll one wheel peel forever but 60mph on the highway and it's turning 4200rpm I'm definitely going to find another stock rear-end hopefully with disk brake and swap it out.
11:15 I was not familiar with the steering linkage setup on these because it's one thing on my sedan that was nice and tight was the steering. Showing how the loose idler arm causes the issue you have made all the sense to me.
My dad had a '73 Gran Torino. His was silver with a black cloth interior. It was a 4 door with a 302 . His back bumper was just chrome. It didn't have the optional rubber strip in the middle. I would've loved to have had the Sport with the 351 and a 4 speed.
I so enjoy watching you. This car - the '73 - was sold the year I graduated high school, so I saw a few of them (I think). Thanks for all your content. Your son is A+.
I save the old rear brake rotors, put them on backwards and use a sledge as a bearing puller on more modern trucks and cars with hub bearings. works perfect every time!
I had the same issue with the kickdown spring on mine just to be safe I put a small zip tie up on the fuel rail and hooked the spring there so it cleared that throttle bracket seems to work just fine
Good job guys. Now let's get the word out to all these shows that can actually help get this man's car fully restored! Anybody out there that has the ability to help this man please step up.
Don’t take this too seriously because I love my father if I was to pick a new dad you would be it! And I got 20 years on you buddy but the way you interact with your son it’s beautiful!
You are the most smart guy in mechanics I have seen, made imposible repairs like the rolled runner. Etc. Whenever you make a mistake call yourself smart.
I am really enjoying the Gran Torino. I remember my dad buying a new Gran Torino Sport in 73. I always loved the car. Keep on restoring it and I will continue to watch
I just recently got a set of new old stock ac Delco r43ts....at least 25 years old, still in a blister pack. They were at a yard sale for 10 bucks. I think that's what it's going to take to get decent parts. Strictly new old stock. How do you get people to buy a new car? Stop selling good parts. I love the cheap/real aspects of this channel. Always a thumbs up for the nearly local guy.
One time I didn’t unhook the battery, doing a starter in my Bronco, and the positive contact touched the trans cooler line and burned through it. It caught the fluid in the line on fire of course. Thankfully my buddy had a pitcher of bong water nearby that was just enough to put out the flames.
The newest car I have ever owned was a 1999 Mercedes s500. Now a days I drive a 86 Fnord 6.9idi 420 f350 dually daily, 75 caprice classic convertible in the summer + a 69 Lincoln mkIII, 73 Lincoln mkIV, and 75 Lincoln town car. I don't miss the digital computer stuff at all! Thanks for the video content and helpful tips!

Use the air compressor nozzle to put out fires it stops all sorts of rat's nest fires and grease fires almost instantly. Coming from the guy that welds floor pans in with a 1/2 layer of grease on the bottom and a nest behind every patch panel, you can trust me.
if you snip the very tip and cut a V notch into the tip of the caulking tube you can lay a continuous bead of the perfect height by dragging the tip 👍 windshield installer taught me that
love to see another video on the Torino Dalton , you haven't done a video on that for 10 months, love to see may be a paint correction and body work video 😁
To your comment on the guys hootin about 4.11 gears, a few years back I swapped a 3.55 in place of I think a 2.96 in an F150, I loved the acceleration and all, but it didn’t like 70mph, I couldn’t imagine anything taller than that in a daily
I'm gonna have to do a few of these things to the Grand Prix that has a 400 with a turbo 400 trans. I'm likin the idea of bumpin that rear end up a little and definitely gotta have the pertronix dist. Enjoy, and thanks for taking us along with ya!
I just started watching his channel after I saw him on a JYD video but then NNKH was talking about him and said to check him out and now I'm binge watching his older stuff. Great job and I found a new channel
Dalton, back in the day... I have this opinion being a seventy three year old guy who is a ford nut. I ran fords because I did not want to follow the crowd. I lead, not follow so that got me in a ton of fun troubles in the army in Nam. I owned just as many chevys as I did fords so equal opportunity kind of guy... my opinion of course. I did own one of the rare ford fairlanes that came from the factory with nothing inside of it for creature comforts or even wiper blades. It did have a 428 tho and it was one powerhouse of tire burning hell raising fun rig. On a good day was about six miles to the gallon and if ya raced it, figure feet per gallon. I hope that some day, those old fords find a soft spot in yer heart. My dad bought a four door sedan 57 chevy belair so when the banker sold his rig, he came to me knowing I would take good care of it. I might of been a hot rodder but my car was a shinning beauty and of course fast. Old Dudley Ross sold me his 57 ford fairlane with a total of almost forty thousand miles on it and it was in perfect condition! It was the two door hardtop with the 292 and four barrel... Believe me, I did get rid of the old "tea pot" style carb and put a Carter AFB four barrel back on it. I know yer not going to believe me as no one ever did. If I kept my foot out of it and drove right, it consistently got sixteen miles to gallon... right in that area as its been a minute or three since I even seen the rig. I got it in winter of sixty five, I got drafted in spring of sixty six. My dad hated me like your even going to find it possible, hated me so bad that after I was on the bus to boot camp, he hauled all of my rigs to the wrecking yard. I found out later tho, the guy who owned that wrecking yard sold all of them minus a title. So the 57, my 62 fairlane and my 64 1/2 galaxy, all two door hardtops, the fifty seven was three on the tree and the other two had four speeds. I don't have a problem saying that I never forgave him for getting rid of my rigs on me. Even the townspeople were upset as I was the kid who cut their firewood or done a lot of things for old people in my hometown... I figured some day when I got old, ya know, karma would come back and believe me it has. Hey, its a nice rig Dalton and think over time, it just might grow on ya a bit
I had a twin to this car, same drivetrain, FMX, factory 3.25 Traction Lok...... it would come around on a wet road and kill you, demanded respect from your right foot..... at 190,000 miles( I was the I-don't- know-what multiple owner of this thing) the #4 plug looked a little funny....... when I finally broke the car down and sold it for parts, I found a cracked #4 cylinder wall, and it had apparently been that way for thousands of miles..... never affected the running of it in any way.
You check voltage on a resistance circuit, you have to have a load on the circuit, current flowing, you’ll have battery power all day long til you load the circuit. Just to let you know for next time you run into a electrical issue and you think you have voltage. This has bit me before. I’d have 12v on a circuit but it couldn’t handle any current. I always do voltage drop test, with some sort of load on the circuit, light bulbs work good, head lamps for heavy gauge wire, 1156 on small ones. Hope it helps you in the future.
Well, that's it...... You are me 30+ years ago. The ignition/distributor removal w/the noting of it's position is the final giveaway..... Happy wrenching! (It was the best time of my life bro)
It must just be me but the ultimate carburetor is a Holley 650 Spreadbore: small primaries give good economy and very snappy throttle response due to high air velocity and getting smacked in the ass when you stomp on those back barrels. And yes, he really looks up to you.
The 400 being square with a 4" bore as well as a 4" stroke is significant. That added to the added bearing wear area of the 3" mains made for a very durable long running engine with a ton of performance potential. Its pretty easy to get 500 hp and 450+ ft lbs of torque out of the 400 . Just takes the correct parts . Of which the majority of stock 351c parts. 1he close chambered 351c 4v heads and straight up timing set for the 1971 351c 4v engine really wakes the 400 up. KB make pistons that bring the compression up from the stock 8.4:1 in 73 up to 9.5:1 . Which is great for a street engine. Added to the 71 351c 4v heads and straight up timing set and a 600 cfm 4 barrel carb and intake . And you have a 400 ford that will put out over 400 hp and 400 ft lbs of torque that easily
Dalton, thank you and your son for an interesting video. My nephew was looking for his first car about 10 years ago and we stumbled upon a Torino. 1971 302 c4. Don't know what the gears were. Kid had a lot of fun with that car!( And big dreams too.) Crashed it in the twisties. First car things.
It be nice if you put a stage 2 front end , thats a great car just love it . also i like the way your schooling your son on parts and what's their purpose, your son is going to be a great mechanic ,not to many fathers teach their sons on vintage or new cars mechanics and it's great that your son is learning ,not only your son but also your viewers thanks my friend i have also learned a thing or 2 from you 😊.
Firstly I love how you do stuff ! But most of all I love how your son stays so cool even when the blower is on fire and it won't go out he just laughed your doing a top job with him my friend Looking g forward to more shenanigans
Turned into a nice ride. One thing about a ford 9" opposed to a Chevy rearend. Pulling the whole assembly beats changing gears in a GM. JD the junior mechanic is coming along just fine. Needed that idler arm too.
Ahh glad you’re back sir!! And with a Torino update, perfect! Been waiting for your upload after your Texas adventures! Always a great night when I get to watch a new PBG!
16 yr. Old i rd. Around alot with a friend who had a 73 grandtorino sport 351 Windsor alot of fun until bolegs pull in front of a lady and got t boned that was the end of the ford rip.
That is exactly my car- loved it but it was underpowered, it helped when I plugged all the smog lines- My dream tho, would have been to put the 72 front clip on the 73
Torino's were so cool. I had a 69 Torino gt. I loved that car. I was a body man but drove that car for three years in black primer. Some guy stole it from behind my job and had a police chase in it. Of course he crashed it. Miss that car.
Hey man, just for future reference if you every swap center sections on a 9 inch again. The easiest way to to pop it loose and drain it is to leave the top nut on a couple threads and Jack up on the pinion. Pops it right off,👍 just make sure you got a drain pan under it. 😂👌

How do you get people to buy a new car? Stop selling good parts.
I love the cheap/real aspects of this channel. Always a thumbs up for the nearly local guy.
You've never lived until you've tried to spin a master cylinder onto a frozen brake line.
I've got a 78 f-100 with a 400 and c6. I've ended up putting an Edelbrock cam and intake and a 670 street avenger on it and it seems to love it haha
Great content, as always.
Was glad to see that JD hasn’t lost the shop yet.
enjoying your content more and more, Dalton. This time with your son is priceless.
The Torino looks like a fun vehicle to drive. Great how you teach JD about cars.
One time I didn’t unhook the battery, doing a starter in my Bronco, and the positive contact touched the trans cooler line and burned through it. It caught the fluid in the line on fire of course. Thankfully my buddy had a pitcher of bong water nearby that was just enough to put out the flames.
That’s a nice ride buddy. Glad it’s getting some love. You and JD be safe out there and keep jamming!
320 econo-master,very good carb for fuel economy,had one on a 253 Holden V8,perfect for 15+mpg
Man keep on keepin on I’m pretty sure I grew up near ya and I look forward to your videos every week 💯 your hands down one of my favorite UA-camrs and I love your videos 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Use the air compressor nozzle to put out fires it stops all sorts of rat's nest fires and grease fires almost instantly. Coming from the guy that welds floor pans in with a 1/2 layer of grease on the bottom and a nest behind every patch panel, you can trust me.
if you snip the very tip and cut a V notch into the tip of the caulking tube you can lay a continuous bead of the perfect height by dragging the tip 👍 windshield installer taught me that
That's a great idea!
love to see another video on the Torino Dalton , you haven't done a video on that for 10 months, love to see may be a paint correction and body work video 😁
To your comment on the guys hootin about 4.11 gears, a few years back I swapped a 3.55 in place of I think a 2.96 in an F150, I loved the acceleration and all, but it didn’t like 70mph, I couldn’t imagine anything taller than that in a daily
Died of laughter during the entire blower motor on fire sequence. That’s some tasty burnt rat remains lol
Love how ya waited till the blower got good n cookin before you did anything about it, I enjoy that myself when parts defy me
You were unreasonably sensible this episode we need more chaos!!
Love that you and JD are working on this together.....
While working on the blower, I like how you selected a roadkill shirt before you fixed it with fire. Steve would be proud.
I had that exact year and model! 351 Cleveland. Not the best gas mileage but it was a sweet ride.
I'm glad you said it needs exhaust it sounds ticky, and where it bends over the rear axel, it looks pinched, sweet, cool, old car, though.
26:28 "...in _this_ place?" Good how your son is right with the program already. 😂
Now just like the fixing of the AC switch, that’s what a mechanic does and used to do. Now you have parts replacers not all but most.
Incase you were wondering, yep they ship all there 3rd members in bucket's
But most of all I love how your son stays so cool even when the blower is on fire and it won't go out he just laughed your doing a top job with him my friend
Looking g forward to more shenanigans
Thanks!
I used to have a Torino back in the 70s. Awesome video thank y'all
Dig that Torino always liked the body style of those early '70's
Turned into a nice ride. One thing about a ford 9" opposed to a Chevy rearend. Pulling the whole assembly beats changing gears in a GM. JD the junior mechanic is coming along just fine. Needed that idler arm too.
Ahh glad you’re back sir!! And with a Torino update, perfect! Been waiting for your upload after your Texas adventures! Always a great night when I get to watch a new PBG!
I love how the kid agree's with the DAD. Awesome job.
16 yr. Old i rd. Around alot with a friend who had a 73 grandtorino sport 351 Windsor alot of fun until bolegs pull in front of a lady and got t boned that was the end of the ford rip.
That is exactly my car- loved it but it was underpowered, it helped when I plugged all the smog lines-
My dream tho, would have been to put the 72 front clip on the 73
Torino's were so cool. I had a 69 Torino gt. I loved that car. I was a body man but drove that car for three years in black primer. Some guy stole it from behind my job and had a police chase in it. Of course he crashed it. Miss that car.
That back end has a very javelin-ish look.
Oh man when you pulled that blower motor out and said "Hello Fievel" I lost my shit that was hilarious.
What smells like burning rat shit? 😅😂
Hey man, just for future reference if you every swap center sections on a 9 inch again. The easiest way to to pop it loose and drain it is to leave the top nut on a couple threads and Jack up on the pinion. Pops it right off,👍 just make sure you got a drain pan under it. 😂👌
I like that Torino the best out of all your Cars
I like the way you work. I am thinking about buying an old Jeep but I do not have the skill set of you nor I dont have a place to work on it. Keep up the content I will keep watching!
Man that's what it's all about just saying thank u fir the entertainment to watch on breaks at work
You bet man
