1978 Chevy BIG BLOCK K20! WILL IT RUN and Drive Home?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2023
- It's REVIVE and DRIVE Time! We head north to Iowa, again, to pick up a squarebody truck, again. This time it's a 1978 Chevy K-20 Scottsdale with a 454 Big Block engine under the hood. Will It Start, and Will It Run and Drive 200+ miles home before we all succumb to frostbite? If we can get the 454 to start, we'll drive her home, and this truck will become Farm Truck 2.0 after the OG Farm Truck was sacrificed to save the '76 K10 Silver Dollar Chevy truck build.

ATTENTION! I'm not giving anything away, I don't have a telegram/sundial/carrier pigeon. DON'T RESPOND TO THE OBVIOUS SCAMMERS!
Why didn’t you just bring JD he that out of there a lot easier then you can give JD some coveralls
What the hell is wrong with you man you using the timing like to set a time on a big block Chevy what happened your ear meter it doesn’t work or are you just a poser I can do that with my shirt and one of your plugged up
Thankyou
Oh you got too much damn timing or you got some teeth missing off the flex plate
Just a tip when you’re in a dilapidated vehicle that has no brakes set your phone to avoid highways in the a longer trip but you’re better off I’m breaking down and get your shit towed
The bigger fellow is pretty much spirit animal.
😂
Big guy reminds me of my dad p.s don't piss him off lol
Same. He had me at “im carrying excessive amounts of person 😂
@@JohnKing-qh8zr hahaha 😂 yesss!
Same, he reminds me of me lol
“I’m carrying excessive amounts of person” had me cracking up so hard. He is funny! Have him on more often!
Can't believe you came home with an empty trailer... That's a sin to haul sailboat fuel!
JD has great camera skills, he make the channel so good. He always gets the right shot and always pans to dad just as he says something stupendous, or just plain stupid.
Right! He's one of my favorite things about the channel.
That kid's growing up fast. I didnt recognize him at first. And I agree - he's 1st class, for sure!
Plenty of practice ... ..
I love how you involve your son. He has a great dad.. thanks for being a good example to all of us, and for the incredible content. Let's get this guy to 100k followers.
I appreciate you!
Let's go! 100k in 2023!
Reminds me a lot of my dad just with a lot less swearing and I don't think I've heard him say "Now don't tell your mother about this". That was a pretty common phrase from my childhood.
For a brief second, my buddy and I were at 26:34 towing an RV! I definitely did a double take when I saw the new truck! Love the videos!
No kidding? That's awesome!
After seeing you on JYD’s channel I’ve been on a binge watching the videos. It’s great to see you and your son wrenching away on this ol rusty metal. Not only are you teaching him life long skills, your making memories that will last him a lifetime. What your doing with him is what I wish I was able to do growing up. Great job and look forward to seeing future videos.
Thanks!
Oh my God same here I've been been watching pole barn garage for like 3 weeks lol
Same
I love how you bring your kid along. Making a lifetime of memories. You're a helluva father
Thanks!
Thought I'd share this, I showed my wife the holey goat 2,000 mile trip video the other night. She thinks the car and what did did with it is cool, but her biggest takeaway was "it's a good thing he loves JD. That boy looks just like him, starting to talk and sound like him, he could never deny that kid. Nice to see a father give a damn about his son." (Her kids father could care less so her kids are basically my kids) hope that brought a good laugh to you, now onto the video lol
Very kind words!
It's sad to see those "fathers" going out to get milk and cigarettes and never coming back. Noticed it's a growing issue nowadays. 👎Keep doing what you're doing!
Lovin this channel! You, JD and the fam are the best of blue collar knuckle busting.
Thanks dude!
You can’t beat the old Chevy trucks 👍
The bodywork on the rear bumper was impeccably done.
Dalton this engine in the Farm Tuck is a beast. JD is great. Don’t freeze the young fellow. Thanks for sharing your Video! 💯
And couldn't agree with you more! Its a TRUCK for doing TRUCK things.
Yep! Nothing more nothing less
When I first got my license the truck I drove everywhere was a '78 H.D. 3/4 ton Chevy. Wasn't lucky enough for it to be a big block, just a stock 350 but with 4:10 gears it was still a beast, at the gas pump anyway. The next time you get one with the thermostat stuck open in cold weather make a winter front from a cardboard box. It'll make a world of difference in the heat in the cab. Just discovered your channel a couple weeks ago, lovin it. Keep up the good work.
Love it, Dalton! I'm with you 100%! When you buy a truck, you buy it for what they're made for, work! And sir, you obviously know how to 'work' a truck, maybe a bit too much. :) Haha! Great vid, bud! Keep it up!
Swanny , like swagger meets swan... The baddest on the pond!!!
I might be a little silly, I saw K20 and 2.0 in the thumbnail and thought someone honda swapped a chevy truck, which would have been the best thing ever
So far, it looks like swanny just says, "You're coming with me." Be careful pulling stumps. You might drag your property through two different counties. Great video, thanks to both of you
Owner's manual seat covers that's a keeper in chrome valve cover pan you know that'll get you home great video dude keep them coming
Thanks for being a member and seeing it so early!
As long as you and JD keep being real, I will always watch. Like some other youtuber that is so big you can't relate to.
Just would like to say i originally found your channel through your collab with kevin from junk yard digs. Absolutely love your content. As a dad i also wanted to say how amazing proud i am know theres still guys like you out there showing your son how to wrench on stuff, and including him along on shenanigans as well. Really reminds me of Derek from vice grip garage. Your an amazing fella with a cool kids as well. Keep up the awesome content sir!
Thanks!
26:42 You don't see proper overland trains very often, and there's two in a row - an Overland train convoy! Looks like you picked a good truck to fill the shoes, er, tires of the OG Farm Truck. Long live square bodies!
There was actually 8 of them total!
I think it’s worth restoring. Seems like a solid rig and they are harder and harder to find in good condition.
Sweet K20! Definitely has some personality. And no bullet holes is always a plus!
Exactly, that what it is, its a truck! a damn truck and a truck is for work. Its for hauling things around. its not for siting in the driveway just so you can look at it. These things help build America that's what they were fore.
Got to love those Big blocks! Great recovery. I love the bonus footage of you using the truck once you get it home!
That's what it's for!
Hey there is my old truck!!!!!! And me too lol
Someone here already mentioned how at an advanced age we older guys can't imagine doing this kind of thing with the temps heading towards single digits. I concur. Youth has its advantages.
I see JD has had a growth spurt. JD is getting to be a fine looking capable and confident young man. Dal'un you have to have a smile on your face when you see how he's coming into his own, wholesome, with a sponge-like attention to your tutelage and respectful of his pop (even when things go south on a difficult task.
Good on you Dal'un for how you respect JD's opinion and how you guide him in the proper and not so proper ways of doing things. Perspective is important.
Giving a boy the experience you give JD in the off handed but meaningful way you convey the message is the truest gift of a father.
It's good to see how in this way that message has been absorbed.
Congrats to you both especially in a time so full of the fragility found in the listless currently young out-of-touch-woke-coasters of this epoch.
p.s.
Dal'un aren't you going to install the hand made engine puller on the bed of Swanny, or do have it elsewhere (in mind)?
That was my original plan, however I think the truck deserves a nicer bed than that.
@@PoleBarnGarage You may have something there... Good find, nice to see Swanney came from a fan...👌👍
You have a holy grail and it has a working fuel gauge man oh man
Once again it is just like listening to myself!
"Its a truck! It for working, hauling, pulling!"
Awesome video! One of my favorites. Find one, try and drive it home. “Put in in the back, let the neighbors look at it”, favorite line!!
Another great video! I love your channel, still keeping it real. There are too many channels I used to watch that are now all sponsored, they buy all the newest parts to just throw on the 100 cars they now own...Keep it up the way you are doing it for as long as you can!
'Unfortunately for you, I don't think I'm going to fit under that truck.'
'Why?'
😂
More videos with these dudes! You guys seem like you’ve been friends forever!
He's my brother
I would say clean it out be cool to make a flat bed out of saw mill lumber for it and just patch of the floor. Add a fan Shroud new speakers for the radio. And you be good to go.
The first inch that truck moved, I thought.....
"I bet Dalton will do donuts while test driving it" 💯
Too cold, too far from home......
Dalton please just this one time, put it on a trailer!
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
No lol
Love how you have your boy involved...great memories for him.
Idea… cut the fender rust out, round out the wheel openings, and put an old muffler on that fits.
It’s always worth fixing up these square bodies. And no you don’t have to do a full restoration to make it look good, but whatever you do to it it will be worth it 😁😁👍👍
Hey. Also joined as a member just now. I came across your channel about 13 months ago and have enjoyed it ever since. I wish you and your family all the best Dalton. F VGG!
Thank you so much 😂😂😂
That truck only needs new oil filters and is ready to work! Thanks for sharing
I inherited my grandpas 78 GMC K25. The most beautiful truck I’ll ever own. I poured At least $8k into it and still have allot of work. I’m also a fan of the Fall Guy and bought the winch mount and roll bar.
Sounds like a good shop/work truck. You have a plow you can add to the front for snow, not sure how much it snows in your area or not. The Fairlane would be a cool project to work on, I always liked those cars.
Thanks for watching!
In my opinion that truck is in really good condition for as old as it is. I would definitely fix the loud exhaust for sure other then that I am not sure. I always enjoy the father and son bonding atmosphere you have on your channel teaching him about working on vehicles is a great thing
i love JD'S POSITIVE YE every time
The definition of diy car repair. Love all of it
I swear, when I was a kid in the early 1990s, at least 50% of all the squarebody trucks were this shade of brown.
Awesome find.
I think they still are, but now it's rust brown
Yup or that two tone brown and tan .I should know had a 84 brown and tan sliverado.
This is an awsome find, I'd love to see you maybe patch up the floors and the body panels alittal, ya know self tappers and all.. lol.. great farm truck, cant beat those old 454's.. love it!
Yeah I think we can make that happen!
Coul build a pretty cool flat bed with some tool boxes and put a cheap crane wench for pulling motors. Perfect shop / farm truck.
She's rough BUT she's a runner!! "I'm carrying an excessive amount of person" classic quote!!! K Chevy Trucks are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol he got out and let the truck pull. Good video my guy
Hell yes! Love this ol monster! Perfect farm truck! You had me rolling at the beginning with your nut crunches on the hood!
I wish there were trucks like that in the UK to have adventures in.
I miss Canada so much.
15 Minutes in, Hell the engine sounds GREAT.
I'm binge watching, just found your channel not that long ago, LOL.
That's an awesome find. So... how about a better truck box and front fenders, and fix the holes in the floor? Plus a good tidy would be awesome. It's not every day you come across a 3/4 ton square body 454 4x4.
Cheers.
For an old northern truck it isn't in that bad of shape. Great video as usual
Farm truck? Compared to the one I drove for 8 years, that’s a show truck. A trailer queen. A radio AND a window roller-upper-arm AND cab mounts made of steel and rubber? (Not a 2x4…) that’s luxury right there. 1979 K10, 350.
I love how every test drive becomes a Dukes of Hazzard moment, Yeahaaw!
Love it!!! It brings me back to my childhood, playing with cars and trucks with my dad, your an awesome dad, showing your boy ,love watching you and him working, thank you from Nova Scotia Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you!
Dalton, thanks for sharing a new video. You and JD are really growing this channel, and that takes a lot of hard work. I am glad to be a member. You are the only channel I support each month.
Know that I really appreciate it!
God man I can't wait to do this with my son/daughter one day. Thanks pbg
"It's a TRUCK dammit!" Truer words have never been spoken...
Man you guys are bringing back so many good memories only difference was the thing I was bringing back to life was going to be my daily. Couldn't weight to get it home and start playing with it lol .love the content keep it coming have a awesome day
I am so with you on the “Truck” and its use. I have an 87 Dodge w150. I drive it all the time and I get hate because its a “survivor” or a “classic”. Lets be real. Nobody gave a crap about these trucks when they were new 30 - 50 years ago. They were made to be driven not to save it for the next guy. Great channel man. Keep ‘em coming.
Damn right
Weld the bed side back on its floping around. wash it inside and out. Its too dang cold though
These videos remind me a lot of growing up doing the same thing with my dad and grandfather but it was a lot more Oldsmobile and boats we were fixing up near the St.Louis area really cool to see the younger generation still wanting to do this stuff
Another excellent video guys. Keep them coming.
The new farm truck is real nice, it honestly reminds me of the times I have gone to a junkyard to get parts for my project and found a vehicle thats nicer in almost every single way than what I actually own. I might say to patch the floors with a panel from that blue van and put some used tires on it but other than that, it is real nice.
Also I hope you get caught up on work because I am sucker for mustangs and that 70' looks like an awesome time, maybe wait till it warms up a bit though.
Rusting bed on this one makes a great candidate for farm trucks flatbed. Bring back the motorized engine puller
All square bodies deserve rehab still use it as a truck but put it all back together with some metal repair and paint good as new!
That's a wicked nice truck! Awesome find for sure! 🤘 Doesn't matter what ya do with it, but it should definitely be kept around for a bit! Thanks for sharing 😎
I realize how you got "swanny" but that truck deserves a name like "farmageddon" tough as hell but just a little rough! Great channel and love seeing your boy in all the action!
Swanny is an old song by Al Jolson. 😊😊😊
Nice to buy a truck and put it straight to work. I'd probably put a light bar front and rear, and a receiver hitch or something more solid to hook to the back.
Nice 454 Big Block thats a pretty clean truck and it has floors omg Dalton that's a Gem @Pole Barn Gsrage
Fantastic vidya, Dalton! Keep it up! BTW... I WANT THAT TRUCK.
Man I get more excited for videos than JYD here lately you’re doing awesome!
Appreciate it!
Like the yellow and cream square body truck also lol
That 454 sound healthy! Nice score.
For sure!
Great content, enjoying going through the back catalogue of videos, all the best from the UK
Thank you!
You're a great Dad! BTW, tractors work better on stumps in my experience..that truck is too nice for stump pullin'. Glad you made the trip with it! Good video!
Tractors like to do wheelies in my experience lol
I still can’t believe this channel doesn’t have over a million subs
We're pretty new on the UA-cam scene, hopefully it comes someday!
She fired right up sounds amazing Very strong Runing Engine
For sure!
I realize that working on a vehicle in freezing ass weather makes for good content, but man! I just can't do that anymore. But then I'm old! Trailer that stuff home!! Isn't your PBG cold enough? Great video!! Great farm truck!?!?! With a little self tapper body work it'll be perfect! 👌
Trailering it just wouldn't be as much fun though!
Only thing Swanny needs is to get that starter fixed. It sounds like someone I used to date.
I say, get it to be driven in comfort and stop. Keep the Farmtruck style but get it to be comfortable and reliable to drive into town, etc. Man, your getting so lucky with these die hard never quite vehicles that you run into by accident. Thanks for keeping things fun and real, the viewers appreciate it👍💪😎
Great video guys !
Reminds me of my first truck I got at 16 Lmao it was defiantly a two man operation to get it started. Right before I ended up selling I wired in a push button starter in the engine bay so I could man the choke and start it at the same time😂
It looks like you have acquired a nice work truck. It does drag stuff around your property pretty well. It does need a correctly installed sturdy rear bumper though.
I think the one off the stepside will do nicely
This was one of the best so far loved it love how great you and JD are your teaching him very Awsome 😊
Loved the drive home, good music, loud a$$ truck and giving it hell!
Priceless!
Great video 📹!
Defiantly something to be said about a big block square body. Another work horse saved and still useful 40+ years later!
Still perfectly good!
I’m early to a new video! lol
Found your channel recently. Watched the entire GOAT series in a day and I’m a fan. You’re 1 of 3 main people I watch. VGG, UTG, and now you! Keep it up man!
Thanks man, I'm glad!
But UTG is boring ut is a loser just so you know!!!
@@jerrycraig6522 why do you say that?
Thanks for sharing. This was fun to watch! What an adventure!
That’s the perfect going to town rig
I haven't finished this but it looks mostly solid for a northern truck 👍
Surprisingly not bad
Cover the big holes and secure the really flappy parts and add tractor paint (maybe by roller)!
I could totally make that happen! Would probably need a new box for it
I wonder how many people were confused by the clips of the car trains going down the highway I see those all over Missouri 😂
Farm truck 1.0 had a engine hoist on it that I think would be perfect for Swanny
