We had several 70s Mopars when I was growing up, and I can say everything shown here is accurate. I still haven't come around to seeing 70s trucks and Valiants as collector vehicles. My mom hated being seen in them, hated the doors opening when they shouldn't, refusing to open when they should, and being late places when dad had to get under the hood to make a few inevitable "adjustments". Of course, Dad steadfastly refused to park them until they were all the way "used up". Mom's joy at finally seeing one shoved out to pasture only lasted as long as it took dad to find another one and begin the cycle all over again 😆

Leaving my wrench on the other side of whatever I'm working on is the story of my life too. So, as a not so idiotic idiot, I now use 2 wrenches or ratchets. I have 2 IDENTICAL tool sets, and I put them on EITHER side of what I'm working on. One under the power barn on the ground, one up inside the power barn. One in the interior of whatever I'm doing one on the exterior. Cost me twice as much ONCE when I bought an identical set of tools (wrenches ratchets sockets the whole 9 yards) but it's probably saved me 100 hours in forgetting my tool on the other side. Many years ago I had a 76 D100 short bed 4x4 with factor custom paint. ( look it up it was a real thing) I bought a fresh rebuilt surplus police interceptor 440 from the county auction. Dropped that in place of the 400 pos it had in it and had a lot of fun for many years. But it was a Dodge😢, lots of starter and electrical issues. The stock starter has a copper flat washer in the solenoid for a contactor and when all it would do is go click with the key meant it was time to take it out and turn the washer over or sand it smooth and put it back. The trucks final straw with me was with the fuse panel under the glove box cover that was always blowing fuses, because it was a Dodge and I always replaced them with whatever metallic thing I could find because a fuse would just blow anyway. When the panel started to sag down into the dash from the heat it created with no fuses to pop it was time to let it go to someone else. That and the 440 had brutal torque and over time I broke the front and rear ends and gears and axles what ever. Snapped the trans mount adapter off. Blew reverse on fresh rebuild Trans the first weekend out. But it was a fun truck I almost miss it. Lol

That body ground IS critical because it provides a ground for the ignition module on the driver's fender. On my 76, I put a dedicated ground from under the ignition module to the battery negative. No more intermittent spark!
The wrench at 48:33 looks like it would've been used for tightening the tracks on an old dozer, or something similar with tracks. I've got one I use on an old D6C dozer for my family farm, it is also a very good hammer, and prybar!
Yes! my grandpa has a mint 1975 Dodge D-100 with only 64k original miles and has been sitting in a barn since 98 and is still in the barn. With no rust or nothing. It has the exact same thing engine, transmission and all, ofc it is a 75 but they are virtually the same. The thing that caught my eye on the truck is it was used in the U.S. Navy which I find amazing. So you doing a video on another 70's D-100 I love! I had a '77 W300 tow truck. I wanted to do a light restoration and put her back to being a dually pickup, which is how she started life according to the build sheet. Ended up having to sell it though. I've always had a soft spot for 1970's pickups regardless of brand.
I'm really glad you put this video out tonight it's only 12 degrees outside. I hope you aren't having as bad of weather as we are , as I don't know where you are at . I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas 🎅.
I’ve owned a lot of old Dodge and Plymouth trucks from the 70’s and it seems like every single one had wiring problems. The only thing I can think of is they used the cheapest junk to build them vehicles ! With the plastic dash and crappy wires ! But the styling was spot on !
Best truck my dad ever had (and he let me learn to drive with it) was a 1977 Dodge with a slant 6. Metallic light green in color. Bench seat, headlight dimmer in the floorboard, roll up windows. Great truck, tough truck. I miss it.
I don’t care for snow at all right now. Had a blizzard happen up here in Indiana. Got stuck in the driveway. And the old 6th gen iPhone is struggling. It spent 21 days in the snow after I dropped it snow plowing last year. I just had to blow out the speaker on my phone to hear the video. Too much snow and ice
Dalton, hope you and JD have a great Christmas. Nice job giving the D100 a chance to live on. I still enjoy watching, even with the inordinate amount of shade you through at MoPars.

Been binge watching your channel the last couple days while I’m on holidays. Just finished the holy goat, the roll runner, and silver dollar Chevy. Need a new one!! lol but I love how involved you get your son in with the projects. Hopefully I can get a shop built in the near future and be able to do this with my plethora of offspring.
Nice! My Dad had a 1977 Dodge D100! Slant six three on the column. We hauled massive loads of firewood with it. 1st gear would pull you out of anything. It revved kinda high on the highway so he usually kept it below 60MPH !😂😂😂😂😂
@PoleBarnGarage my guess on the large wrench is to adjust a disc. Some disks 20ft wide and wider will come with a large wrench cause its unlikely the farmer will have an extra one to keep with the disc. Smaller discs will just use crank handles to adjust the tilt angle.
At 3:49 I cought a glimpse of a car that I couldn't tell if that is a 72ish mustang with some kind of different roof line or is that like about 70 mercury couger?? Its bad ass either way.
There can't be any more old Trucks, Broncos or Muscle Cars left in Barns, Garages or Field's. Can there! Pole Barn Garage your the Best! Keep finding them. Shawn.
My younger brother was a backhoe operator for a St louis company, and his laborer sold him one identical to this for 200.00, same color and everything, and the hole in the floor. It had a miss in 1 and sometimes 2 cylinders and had new plugs and wires, compression wasnt that bad on all the cyls either. Now this was in the 85ish era and our heavy drinking beer days, we had to go to our homestead farm to get 2 TO20 rear tires to get replaced, it had a little air horn , that played the Mexican song Hot Tamales , Hot Tamlaes get them while they are hot , theme LOL, and went by the Walmart in Warrenton for beer ,and a bunch of Chicks standing around got a kick out of it, this thing missing and looking and running like a POS. So we got up to the farm, I kept asking him if it was running HOT, cause my feet where like burning up from the firewall heat, oh a little bit it always does. The beer tasted real good getting the tires off the TO 20, that hadnt been off in 30+yrs, started up Big Springs Hill on Hwy 19, and dropped another cyl , so now it has 4 hitting cyl and smoke and steam coming out the back, and 2nd gear is all it would do, sounded like a airplane engine , only a 4 cyl one, we drove that thing all the way back to Warrenton Mo. He pulled the head off, and Dad had a valve grinder, they found that the intake passages in the head, where so gummed up with carbon and oil, it was unreal, 2 cyls intake passages where almost plugged solid!! Those slant 6 ,s I am convinced are almost indestructible the way he abused it, by the way the hole in the floor was a good way to get rid of beer cans, the rear wheel crushed them LOL He got it running on all 6 and some dude he knew needed a cheap truck to drive, while his wrecked new one got fixed and made a couple hundred on it.
I was really mad at myself once for screwing up on a old tractor...1962 Minneapolis-Minnesota jet star...it died on me one day wudnt get spark or fuel ...the carb sucked up a bunch of dirt and trying to start it fried the batteries and shorted out coil and dist...so i rebuild the dist ..got a new coil...check it for spark...was good there ..then went to rebuid the carb...was scrubbing it down and dropped it and if fell on bar and broke the bowl on the inside..its cast i remind you..and old...be hard to find a carb that wasnt expensive...but ugh..so mad at myself for dropping that bowl
Also, many of those years in that truck had amp meters that would fry, catch fire, so pull the instrument cluster and make sure the wires there are very bolted on tight, and the insulator areas probably should have some new rubber washers added too. Absolutely all the charging from the alternator goes directly through the amp meter, and the needle is moved by a small magnet at bottom of the orange needle. It's that high power flowing fully through that meter which set many of them on fire and burnt the white plastic area they were attached to.
The starter. It has a copper disc that is pushed out by the bendix and touches the back of the bolt where the battery cable is, and often it burns a half cresent into that bolt, and just loosen and turn it around half the way, can do without taking the starter off, and that will allow the electrical conduct to happen again on the other still intact half of that copper bolt head that's inside the starter. Maybe can still buy the repair kit they used to sell for that. Sometimes, you can take a 2x4 and bang on the starter and get it off the bad spot, while trying to crank it from the starter relay like you've been doing. I've had 2 of '77 Dodge PU's and know them inside and out. One, same orange color "Adventurer" with the chrome package, I gave to my oldest child who still owns it. 2 years ago used to haul a trailer of things between Maryland and Florida, and then back with empty trailer. Yours is the 225ci, ours is a 400ci, and the one I sold is a 360ci. I would link to pics of both, but YT seem to kill links.
Had a 90 dodge ram had the floor pans like that but was on the driver side on mine cut the roof skin off a old 2nd gen dodge cab i had laying around fixed it i some what welded it in and used lots of fiberglass filters painted it and threw flore mats over it lol

@@PoleBarnGarage I have a feeling that's sarcasm 🤣 but at the same time I can't wait to see
I don’t comment very often but I love your channel and projects.
Thanks! Glad you dropped in
I had a '77 W300 tow truck.
Man it's cold! I'm in Missouri
@@PoleBarnGarage thanks for the reply. I hope you and your family had a fantastic Christmas.
I’ve owned a lot of old Dodge and Plymouth trucks from the 70’s and it seems like every single one had wiring problems. The only thing I can think of is they used the cheapest junk to build them vehicles ! With the plastic dash and crappy wires ! But the styling was spot on !
How often do ya see a 10yo push-start someone with a full-size van?, you-da-man JD,👍, awesome video guys, Merry Christmas, and thanks for sharing.
Yes that is true. 😊
Best truck my dad ever had (and he let me learn to drive with it) was a 1977 Dodge with a slant 6. Metallic light green in color. Bench seat, headlight dimmer in the floorboard, roll up windows. Great truck, tough truck. I miss it.
Love the channel and what you're doing, thanks for always keeping it real
Thanks for watching!
Holy crap! Watching you cut up that van to repair the floors to that truck just put me through my own floor in shock! Well done sir!
Thanks for watching👍
I don't think.i could have done that to the van. That van looked like it was in nice shape before Dalton cut those pieces out of it 😢😢
Merry Christmas boys!...Thanks for another great vid...always better with self tappers and less poop
Thanks!
You worked some magic on that old girl!
Dalton, hope you and JD have a great Christmas. Nice job giving the D100 a chance to live on. I still enjoy watching, even with the inordinate amount of shade you through at MoPars.
Oh come on, even Mopar guys know that 70s Mopar wiring is horrific. A damn shame too, the slant is a great engine!
But they deserve it ALL!!!
'70 Mopar wiring is only eclipsed by British wiring of any year.
@@PoleBarnGarage Actually the ‘60’s, too, but who’s quibbling…
@@PoleBarnGarage I made a comment one time on a video about how old mopars are known for burning down and this dude replied and literally called me a liar that they never have caught fire! I didn't know what I was talking about... This guy was totally offended lol!
Derek @Vice Grip Garage would be so proud of you and the italion tune-up with the Berryman B12 @Pole Barn Garage
Happiest day of a dodge owners life. The day he sells it.
True words!
Amazed how you kept going on this thing. Funny as hell. Hope you broke even. Loved your grandpa's wise advice!
I didn't 😂
Well I just found the reason my dodge doesn’t have spark😂🤦🏼♂️
Enjoying my Christmas Eve casserole and nearly choked laughing when the key turned up!! And then the grandfathers bit of wisdom had me rolling, best YTuber ever!! Your linguistic slapstick is the best…Merry Christmas!
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Ok so ; Lost kids homework and lunchbox and candy, chloroform bottles . We all know what happened in that truck. Might be haunted now .
I like the idea of flipping some of the cars that get revived. I know this is an old vid but i do think that if you have the viewership that you do there are Definitely people who would by some of these and continue there restoration or enjoyment and there not going to sit around as much. I know that since i started watching your channel I now want a nice old classic to wrench on and enjoy. Thank you for all the content new and old.
Am i the only one that thinks he sounds like hank hill?😂
Other people's frustrations and misery with Mopar stuff makes my life so much more simple. Merry Christmas! Still my favorite channel on UA-cam
😂 you're gonna love what's happening with the roadrunner
12 bucks a hour in the 80s he was making good money
Ive watched this video before but finaly took something from if ive been wanting to fix the floorboards and rocker that no longer exists on my 84 f150 and always hate seeing how much pans are i didnt know were to start and you sir have showed me lol you gave me the motivation to start making my truck better.
Totally agree with what you said about getting good pictures and being honest with what you have, even if it's just pictures that you're just showing someone, awesome video!
Thanks for watching!
I love these 70s dodge trucks! going to working on my 77 club cab this summer. and my 74 d100 as well! thanks for the awesome content 👏
You bet! Thanks for watching!
Been binge watching your channel the last couple days while
I’m on holidays.
One holey Dodge, Granny drove it to church on Sundays! Low mileage, great on gas or Moonshine!
I truly enjoy your videos being a DIY’er myself. Your ingenuity is amazing.
Your style and humor are great, and we learn some stuff. Love that you work like the rest of us....in the cold and no lift
Super awesome, I am so happy for you. I can't wait to see you working in that new shop.
69 mustang
I had a d100, loved it.
There can't be any more old Trucks, Broncos or Muscle Cars left in Barns, Garages or Field's. Can there! Pole Barn Garage your the Best! Keep finding them. Shawn.
Will do!
Agree on good pics of vehicles.
That big ole wrench looks like the ones they used to use on the fire hydrants to open them up back when I was a kid.
Big wrench in the back is a railroad item used by crews to change the air hoses between rail cars.
I can't believe you cut that van up to fix the floor!!😂 took the metal from the roof to fix the floor....perfect!!!
Sounds like genius engineering, yet again
It's good to see the D100 again.
Emailed you pics of both when each taken in past when was in my driveway.
Had a 90 dodge ram had the floor pans like that but was on the driver side on mine cut the roof skin off a old 2nd gen dodge cab i had laying around fixed it i some what welded it in and used lots of fiberglass filters painted it and threw flore mats over it lol
I love JD! Perfect for working on crazy projects with you! Keep having fun
Reminds me why I traded in my 1972 D-100. Pro tip, never leave home without a spare ballast resistor or two.
B12 tuneup for the win!
Omg did it just go full runaway Diesel oh the fast idle was on wow @Pole Barn Garage
The look on your face at 10:05 was classic!
Used to have a wrench like that while operating a transfer mix machine, in the Banbury dept of a tire manufacturer
Merry Christmas to you and your family and friends
Merry Christmas
Great video. It's been a cold bastard in the Midwest, so I appreciate any video you can throw out there.
Man it's awful out isn't it
It looks awful from inside the house, my hats off to you and the boy
Flintstone truck..lovin it.
