this was so chaotic and i love it. also the way you talked about fiction all basically being autobiographical and a fragmented version of reality was cool. I thought Bel Canto was so beautiful but that first cover was silly.
Literally same for me. Thriller probably is my favorite genre but I'm reading less and less of them because it's hard to find a thriller that isn't cheesy and that doesn't have horribly written/annoying characters. It makes me so sad lol

Hello from Tokyo! Just got recommended your video today. Watched one, subscribed, tapped on the notification bell, and binged at least 5 videos. You crack me up. 😂
Actually, Suite Francaise was published from a manuscript of a novel miraculously found by the author's daughter. The author Irene Nemirovsky died in the Nazi concentration camp in WW2. It's a brilliantly written book (the cover photo is quite misleading). OMG I hated The Road too ;D
Would highly recommend Jane Harper's works if you are looking for good non-cringey crime thrillers! My favourite is The Lost Man and her most popular is The Dry which is also very good! Most of her stories are set in small-town outback Australia. She captures the atmosphere and mood of her settings very well and also incorporates them into the storyline convincingly. Love your channel btw!
ok i posted that comment before your spiel on non-fiction books 😂. I totally understand if reading non-fiction, sociology and psychology is not really your thing and you aren't interested in the subject area but books like Outliers and Sapiens are definitely not pseudo-science. They're largely based on credible research done by academics. I will admit that at times, authors can tend to draw conclusions from those studies to prove a point they are trying to make which may not exactly be demonstrated by the study itself. But overall, I find the discussion within those books really insightful. Even if the subject matter of the book and its main message may be very obvious to us (e.g. Outliers basically tells us that success depends on many factors including hard work and luck), I think the stories and examples they use to argue their points are very fascinating and often counterintuitive. And the things you take away from those books don't have to be what the book is trying to argue, it could be something you read between the lines on a more personal level. Like for me personally, the message in Outliers was not groundbreaking but the stories within it really helped me come to terms with imposter syndrome and feeling like I need to join the rat race for everything. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents on why non-fiction books are still worthwhile reads 😆
Thank you for your comments ;) -I think there’s a lot to be gained from nonfiction, I just haven’t been reaching for it recently. I love Robert sapolskys books. Thank you for the book recs 😛

okay i completely understand not liking jane austen HOWEVER! part of understanding and enjoying her works is understanding that the entire thing is sarcasm. she’s a master of satire, and it is really hard to hear it if you listen to it on audiobook by old women. in pride and prejudice for example, the entire character of mr. collins and the reactions to him are genuinely hilarious. some of the interactions between elizabeth bennett and…anyone tbh, are funny as fuck but its so deadpan and serious that its hard to tell apart from other serious conversations (both in the book and in other 19th century lit) apologies for the rant lol, i just love austen and her influence on comedy and later satiric works cannot be overstated
no no no don't apologize! hahaha I appreciate your comment 😛--a few ppl I like a bunch have said a similar thing. My personal taste just doesn't align with her. If like a gen z ass ape made an audiobook of p and p, I would definitely give it a chance. Please move Great Expectations to the top of the pile, it’s to be read in youth, Pip will share many life lessons with you. It’s in my top 5, only wish I had read it back when I had my own GE.

Pride and prejudice is one of my all time favourite books but I dnf Emma and Mansfield park. I really tried. (The only one left now is Persuasion) And I also dnf Sapiens.
@@cs0p I've been slowly working my way through all of Austen's books (a chapter before bed every night means I'm never painfully bored and I enjoy that they're really light plotwise because they're easy to put down) and though I have yet to read Pride and Prejudice, I can also say that some of her other books aren't amazing. I loved Persuasion, because I realized that Austen was funny - which no one had ever told me, but Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, and Emma were all way less enjoyable to me and definitely not worth the raving I see.
@@allbymyshelf4125thats low key super smart for getting through a slow-paced book, and it calms you down before bed. If I eat my words on Austen, I'll start with a big bite out of persuasion ;)
I read Watching You. I remember it being pretty fun, I just don't see myself reaching for another one over the books I have rn. I say go for it. Lmk what you think--I'd definitely read another if my friend read and loved one
so true about the smell of decaying books. i read Jekyll and Hyde this week and the book smelled soo strongly of bonfire. i also have a second hand copy of the Little Friend (unread please forgive me🙏) that smells like play dough... very peculiar
i'm also not the biggest austen fan, but i would recommend northanger abbey! i feel like it's quite different from her other books, there's more whimsy and fun (cause it's a commentary on the gothic genre). also, a tale of two cities is one of the greatest books of all time. great expectations is much overrated imo :P
@@cs0p yeah but it won the women’s prize then orange prize and two other of her books were shortlisted for the prize and commonwealth was a whole films . By that logic Barbara kingsolver had her breakout last month
I just bought The Little Friend because I loved The Goldfinch and The Secret History so much. Now I’m excited, knowing that you liked it as well, even though it has such a low rating in Goodreads.
The low Goodreads review is BS-it’s just ppl who want a flashy plot and don’t care about how great her writing itself is. Tell me what you think when you read it 😏
This is gonna sound pretentious but have you read the catcher in the rye? If you have i would really like to hear your opinion about it. Personally love it:-)
have u read charlotte bronte’s letter to her friend talking about jane austen? “Why do you like Miss Austen so very much? I am puzzled on that point. What induced you to say that you would rather have written Pride & Prejudice or Tom Jones than any of the Waverly Novels? I had not seen Pride & Prejudice till I read that sentence of yours, and then I got the book and studied it. And what did I find? An accurate daguerreotyped portrait of a common-place face; a carefully-fenced, highly cultivated garden with neat borders and delicate flowers-but no glance of a bright vivid physiognomy-no open country-no fresh air-no blue hill-no bonny beck. I should hardly like to live with her ladies and gentlemen in their elegant but confined houses. These observations will probably irritate you, but I shall run the risk.” lol get her char
…I am not a dirty pervert, anywaysssss I too get easily influenced by the authors or readers I look up too, and too get highly disappointed and hurt when these book fell.
ahhaha whatever you say 😉--I have to highly vet my books these days to make sure I'll enjoy or at the very least appreciate them because reading a bad book is the worst
Actually read sapiens and the only topic that I was interested in was about how we started using currency. Just like you, i started it cause i 'supposedly' love nonfic 😂. Meh
Purging books is one of the most difficult, stressful things I’ve ever done! Let’s see who you have rejected. I’m gonna have to fight you on the Jane Austen thing.
You are wise beyond your years! I wonder about people who don’t read fiction; I think it would be miserable to be stuck in your own head with your own stuff ALL THE TIME….yikes
lmao I can relate to the Jane Austen hate. Well, I don't think I actually hate her anymore, I'm a little bit more open to her stuff after reading Persuasion, which had some nice writing and was a generally comfy read, but like... that's supposed to be her best, most mature book, and I only sort of liked it. I definitely still think she's way overrated. I couldn't imagine listening to audiobook versions, that seems like it would make the books even worse.
That's what I'm saying! I'm sure the books are like fine, just not for me not for me not for me and there are so many other way more talented writers I'll never spend time exploring her work

honestly, all these could go. homie, you've got my seal of approval!!! 😤😤😤
also, i felt so seen seeing i'm not the only one that needs to rebuy a copy of a book bc of some god awful thing like writing your name along the pages of the book like that like WHY
hahahah amen I'm still thirsting over one of the didion editions you just got
@@cs0p had to buy the rest to complete the collection i'm obsessed 😵💫
Keeping a book bc of E.M Forster is so relatable. But then again Margaret Atwood wrote the blurb for Mona Awad's Bunny, and I hated that book 😒
get out! Bunny is so silly and fun! And the atwood blurb still makes me giddy for no reason. Definitely divisive tho--I get why people don't like it. Not liking forster tho...I could NEVER understand hahaha
I'm all for a video about books you hated 😆
🫣🫣 I would be assassinated
I like this UA-cam offering…not sure exactly why, but I like it a lot 🙂
hahaha gooood good good ;)
I wish you had kept People of the Book because it is a great book!
i just bought another copy from goodwill because someone commented the same thing! looking forward to it...
people of the book was awesome!!! uts about a history and archeology and libraries/librarians!!!
damn damn damn that sounds good. I'll just buy it again 💀
I unhauled my copy of "The Strange Case of Dr Jekill and mr Hyde" too because of the ugly cover. The book itself is nice though.
me too! i DESPISE jane austen i tried to read northanger abby and it was the most excruciating experience i’ve ever been through…i wanted to fit in with all of the jane austen lovers but alas it wasn’t for me
amen amen ammmmmmen
Please move Great Expectations to the top of the pile, it’s to be read in youth, Pip will share many life lessons with you. It’s in my top 5, only wish I had read it back when I had my own GE.
!! i was thinking about doing 2 cities first! now youve got me all confused...
I’m currently re-reading Two Cities, I remembered liking it in high school, but about 1/3 of the way thru now I’m not as keen on it. GE for the win!
I also recommend going in blind, as I did, no preface, spoilers, etc.
Now I wanna do a scavenger hunt and unhaul shit.
HAHAHA amen.
Yooo I just watched your bookshelf tour vid and now you're cleaning it out? 😭
AHAHAH I'm over reading 😤
I also appreciate the smell of decaying books 🪦📚💞
So so so damn good 😩
idk i'm really digging that second great expectations copy on your unhaul
It is hot!! Love the colors. I just don't like the editions ig 💀🫣
16:44 nooo the purple one is so much prettier
i knowwww I love the covers just not the editions, which is irrational ik
Do you have a Goodreads account? I’d love to keep up with what your reading on there
i dont 🫣
@@cs0p you should make one !
it did break my heart a little to hear the jane austen slander but you definitely brought up some valid points. i’m so glad i’m not the only person to not want to read cormac mccarthy i don’t think i could bear the yeehaw blade eagle rhetoric as harsh as it is 😭😭 really well done video!!
YEEHAW BLADE EAGLE RHETORIC EEEEEEHAHAHA amen. amen. amen. I can't stand him. I get some ppl like austen, she just aint for me 🫣😛
Your right on about books thate have been defiled. I feel the same way.
GOOD--I wish I could get past getting upset over a mistreated book 😭
Pride and prejudice is one of my all time favourite books but I dnf Emma and Mansfield park. I really tried. (The only one left now is Persuasion)
And I also dnf Sapiens.
innnnteresting--Ig if I ever give her another shot it will have to be pride and p. I can't imagine someone finishing all of sapiens it is soo dam long
@@cs0p I've been slowly working my way through all of Austen's books (a chapter before bed every night means I'm never painfully bored and I enjoy that they're really light plotwise because they're easy to put down) and though I have yet to read Pride and Prejudice, I can also say that some of her other books aren't amazing.
How do I find you in Goodreads?
I'm making one! Keep your eyes peeled for the deets in my nxt vid ;)
wait that's a lie I am so sorry for tricking you. I might make one another time but I don't think I'd keep up with it now 🙈
Thriller author recommendation: Ruth Ware :)
i swear ive seen her books everywhere and always been curious...
I've been meaning to get into Lisa Jewel because I have a friend who really loves her. Which one did you read?
I read Watching You. I remember it being pretty fun, I just don't see myself reaching for another one over the books I have rn. I say go for it. Lmk what you think--I'd definitely read another if my friend read and loved one
so true about the smell of decaying books. i read Jekyll and Hyde this week and the book smelled soo strongly of bonfire. i also have a second hand copy of the Little Friend (unread please forgive me🙏) that smells like play dough... very peculiar
hahah you'll read it one day....mmmmmmm bonfire and play dough are great smells for books
i'm also not the biggest austen fan, but i would recommend northanger abbey! i feel like it's quite different from her other books, there's more whimsy and fun (cause it's a commentary on the gothic genre). also, a tale of two cities is one of the greatest books of all time. great expectations is much overrated imo :P
I CANT WAIT FOR TWO CITIES!! Everyone seems to love it! At least abbey is short! haha
no shame in putting that pile of clothes in the frame LMAO!.Im an avid watcher of your vids
HAHAHAH I thought about moving it and then I said let me calm down and be real with the people. Thank you for watching ;)
CLUELESS MENTIONED!!!
sooo good that movie is brilliant
It’s probably too late but The Selfish Gene changed my life.
dam dam dam how so...
Saying Dutch house is the book that catapulted he to literary stardom holding up prize winning bel canto is the wildest take
bel canto was her breakout novel, but it wasn't a finalist for the pulitzer prize
@@cs0p yeah but it won the women’s prize then orange prize and two other of her books were shortlisted for the prize and commonwealth was a whole films . By that logic Barbara kingsolver had her breakout last month
@@Nopi9 poisonwood bible was a pulitzer finalist in 1999 babe 😘
I just bought The Little Friend because I loved The Goldfinch and The Secret History so much. Now I’m excited, knowing that you liked it as well, even though it has such a low rating in Goodreads.
The low Goodreads review is BS-it’s just ppl who want a flashy plot and don’t care about how great her writing itself is. Tell me what you think when you read it 😏
This is gonna sound pretentious but have you read the catcher in the rye? If you have i would really like to hear your opinion about it. Personally love it:-)
I haven't!! but I'll try and fit it in a video and let you know my thoughts ;)
Hi I’m from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 and I like your videos thanks 🙌🏼
Hey!! Thank you for watching ;)
Maybe you could sand the name off / paint the edges like watch some book binding videos on UA-cam. That’s how I clean up some of my thrifted books
dabbing some paint is actually brilliant, thank you I will try in the future ;)
Re: Austen; your loving Ayn Rand gives you a pass on Jane. But you’re wrong 😎
I took the intro personally 😂😂😂. Also Atwood did not do justice to the sequel. To not read it is a right choice 🙌
hahhaa the atwood sequel gives me go set a watchman energy and I'm not a fan
have u read charlotte bronte’s letter to her friend talking about jane austen?
These observations will probably irritate you, but I shall run the risk.”
lol get her char
also i don’t read thrillers much but i did like patricia highsmith’s The talented Mr Ripley! that book bangs
charlotte ate that broad up
…I am not a dirty pervert, anywaysssss I too get easily influenced by the authors or readers I look up too, and too get highly disappointed and hurt when these book fell.
ahhaha whatever you say 😉--I have to highly vet my books these days to make sure I'll enjoy or at the very least appreciate them because reading a bad book is the worst
honestly, i thought i wasn't gonna agree with these, but i completely agree. kill these books!
;)) KILLED 🫶
youre like if uncarley and ana wallace johnson had a baby. aka im subscribing 😂
lmao thank you🫶
Actually read sapiens and the only topic that I was interested in was about how we started using currency. Just like you, i started it cause i 'supposedly' love nonfic 😂. Meh
lmaoo I'm glad I got rid of it
damn thats a lot of books, you can sell me few ahaha
You can have them for free ;)
Purging books is one of the most difficult, stressful things I’ve ever done! Let’s see who you have rejected.
I’m gonna have to fight you on the Jane Austen thing.
hahaha she's just not for me 🫣🫶
You are wise beyond your years! I wonder about people who don’t read fiction; I think it would be miserable to be stuck in your own head with your own stuff ALL THE TIME….yikes
Wow! ❤
hi from morocco am a new subsriber :D
heyy morocco good to see you here ;)
lmao I can relate to the Jane Austen hate.
I'm sure the books are like fine, just not for me not for me not for me and there are so many other way more talented writers I'll never spend time exploring her work
Slowly hides “how not to be wrong” under my iPad so you can’t see I’m literally in the middle of reading it but got distracted by your video….
HAHAHAH TELL ME IF ITS GOOD
i think if you would like any of Austen's books you would vibe best with Emma,, Sense and Sensibility is not the best to start
ikkkkk as a spoiler the goal is to give her another chance sometime soon
hi from trinidad and tobago! new subscriber here, i’m really enjoying your videos so far! just wondering if you have goodreads? i’d love to follow your reviews if you do! looking forward to more of your content
Hey!! I don't have one, but it seems like I might have to make one because everyone is asking! 🫣 Thank you for watching;))
🎉🎉😂😂😂
😝😝😝
Finally, a fellow Jane Austen hater, her work is much better in a film medium, her and Dickens are so dry....
i dont like dickens either...👁️
