My dad is the world's biggest hoarder and he had to build an upstairs to our home just to house all his books and he's got some boxes in the back of the car "so that your mother doesn't know I bought them." Like, collectively his collection is probably worth not much but emotionally it's worth everything. My city has the best second-hand bookstores in the country; it's a lot of books shipped out from UK and US libraries as junk but it makes buying books a city-wide pastime. The high of buying books and not having enough time in one lifetime to read them all 🤗
First- your facial expressions are fantastic; secondly- I will absolutely buy books 📚 from you to add to my collection; lastly- your content gives me so much joy- thank you for that, spectacular Mr. Charles!!!!! 😀
So I just found you on booktube and have watched nearly all your videos. You had me at chapstick mug! We don’t have the same book tastes yet I can’t get enough of your content. Definitely a UA-cam superstar! These rants make my day, and the eye rolls!
I am living for your videos!!! Truly hope that in the new found fame you don’t lose your authenticity and sarcasm and that lovely sense of political incorrectness and unapologetically continue to speak your mind.. Also Im living for your facial expressions in the end of each sentence. You are absolutely the best and most entertaining book tuber!
This is the first video that I've ever watched of yours and by the time I finished I immediately knew that I had to subscribe to you. Your facial expressions are EVERYTHING to me, the whole video was just very fun and interesting to watch. It's hard to believe that you don't even have 10K subscribers yet. I know that I'm not a recent subscriber that's been here since your first video but I've got to say, I am going to be watching all the rest of your videos and cannot wait for more to come !!
It's a bit of work, but you can sandpaper the edges of used books to get rid of stuff like the name. I do this for remaindered books I buy from outlet sites - you get them for 50% off, but they have a dot or stripe of permanent marker on the edge. Takes a good hour of sanding though, so I tend to do it while watching a TV show.
What?? I really like it when 2nd hand books are already marked. Like the book had a life before I met it. Sometimes books travel around the world and it's so cool to see that.
fair fair--I like the idea of marked books, but also I feel like they might interfere with my experience with it (I want a tabula rasa per say hahah). If a friend annotated their fav book for me tho....I'd kiss them...
would love to know ur thoughts on brothers karamozav…it’s been side eyeing me from my shelf for 2 years but i just can’t bring myself to commit. also need a guide to Ferrante. ok i’ll shut up mr sop
hahaha ferrante is brilliant and funny and super approachable. I'm reading days of abandonment rn and I love it. I also really enjoyed the first book in the neapolitan series. I'm still itching to read the brothers. When I do, it'll definitely be in a vid ;)
When you buy off of thriftbook always get the very good or like new if you don’t want any writing on the book. I recently received a copy with annotations all in it so I sent an email to customer support and they’re sending me a new copy free of charge for the inconvenience! Thriftbooks is great!
amen tho. this is a big reason ive become more sparse in my thriftbooking.. its not worth the headache sometimes, but you right the customer service sounds good
Have you read the short story "The Crossing" by Joyce Carol Oates? I think it's somewhat hard to find, but it is included in a collection called Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears. It's one of my favorites, definitely recommend.
We have the exact same taste in books!! I wish I could show you my home library bc my friends aren’t readers and don’t appreciate the hot ass covers or how intellectual I am 😰
Madame Bovary is so lovely and I recommend you to read "the count of monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas❤❤❤. It's a stunning and smart book. One of the best books I've ever read.
@@cs0p Sounds good like my cup of tea. When I'm not the center of drama or not instigating it, I love to read about it. Thanks for reacting to comment, I'll order the book right away. I'll have to hurry, because I promised myself not to buy any books in 2024 and I have only one hour left.
Does the offer still stand for mailing books?? I TOTALLY relate to the the feeling of needing to buy books you love at Goodwill/thrift stores. The deals are just too irresistible. Anyways, I’d love to contribute towards the cause 😉
i feel you on not liking the white americana narratives in books that encompass all american pride. have you read betty by tiffany mcdaniel? its a fictionalized account of the author's mother when she was a child living in ohio as a half native/half caucasian girl in the 40-50s and a lot of the generational trauma that comes with it. touches on topics similar to the bluest eye like internalized hate and such. a lot of whats told isnt easy to stomach or read but i reccomend it if ur ever feeling the need to read something about america that isnt all military/country pride lol
Thrift books used to be my go to but then i realized ebay has free shipping, cheaper prices and actually accurate quality descriptions. No point using thrift books over ebay. Theres like a 50/50 a “very good” thrift books book is gonna come with literal shit on it
HAHAH no ik they LYING. i dont get why everyone doesnt just buy on ebay. there are so many vendors like thriftbooks there too and they all have free shipping. one of them also seems to always be running a buy 3 get 1 (Secondsale i think)
Watched til the first burp. I considered watching on to see if you fart as well, but remembered the previous vid with whole series of burps, and that was it.
You uploaded this video 6 months ago but YES, we need a video with books recommended by Viola Devis! Am I too pushy? Probably. Loved the video as always. Is it okay that I have a crush on you? 😍 Kidding 😁Or am I?) About reading in Russian. I don't recommend it. It is written in old Russian and it sucks. My hot take on War and Peace. I hated it. Like REALLY. Russians exploited Ukrainians as slaves, and to read about how they lived and thought that the war is something noble, that they never considered feeling of other people. It made me so mad. I read 1000 pages just for nothing. P. s. I'm Ukrainian
The unnecessary 15min intro full of nothing, the Kelly Kapoor camara looks...emmie who? ... You are my favorite everything now. btw, I am currently reading The great Gatsby, Moulin Rougue and 1984.
I’m obsessed with the fact that it took you 17 minutes to actually get to the book haul bc you were too busy being silly
this video was out of control 😭
'Reading books is a by-product of buying them'- I need that on a T-shirt
amen amen amen--it's just how i really feel 🫣

@@cs0pcoming back to this comment a year later because our guy done 2000x -ed his subscriber count 🎉
I don't know how to explain this, but you have the vibe of a non-chelant, chaotic squirrel whose drug of choice is books.
