how refreshing , so barbell fishing isn't complicated . I watched an barbell expert on tv and he used all kinds of pellets and ground baits and caught 1 fish all day. thanks for keeping fishing a nice simple relaxing hobby cheers Aden.
Beautiful fish, never caught a Barbel myself, would love to. What I like most about this video is that Mike is fishing with his lovely ol Dad ! My Dad was never remotely interested in taking me fishing when I was young, I used to walk for miles with my fishing gear and spend the day on my own. Which I did for most of my childhood. Nature is paradise for me :0)
Great vid lads, I live in Bridgnorth on the Seven, you cant get a better river to catch your first barbel Mike! Well done mate :) ps got my first rod off mal at his old shop in Bridgnorth :)
this question isn't relevant to the video but im goin to Crete and there is a little harbour which u can fish in but i have no idea what fish species are in there,i thought you might know something, thanks!
I live in South Wales in a small mining town called brynmawr I fish commercials like cefn mably and trafaldu but soon I'm moving to gilwern which is close to the river wye so hopefully next summer will be filled with barbel and chub
On my first barbel the fish took mine and my dad's bait at the same time, after we realised it took ages to fight the fish in fear we would rip t he poor thing in half and thanks for the great tips.
Great video again lads. Can I ask, how much weight did you use to hold bottom? I fished a small river up here in Yorkshire and even 3oz of lead was not holding.
No idea what weight, just what was on the feeder. Either add bigger weights or fish closer in where the current flow is less. Or contact Mal Storey at his tackle shop in Halesowen, he is a river expert and can point you in the right direction for weights.
As always a great video. Great to see that excitement of a first species catch. Question for you, Have you been back to this area recently and is Mal and his tackle store still there??? As it would be great to hear if since 2014 the fish stocks/weights have changed and whether it still fishes as well it did when this video was made.
Was up there yesterday wife "trouble and strife" filming on the Severn Railway.Went right along the river and saw plenty fishing ,one angler was even netting a barbel as the train travelled over the bridge I was filming.Think it was around Hampton Loade ? So must be producing. I think Mal did retire, but the tackle shop was still going last time I phoned. River looked in cracking form .Was sick I couldn't fish .But aim to get back early Sept when all the kids go back to school.
Love your channel, I have recently got back into fishing, since not fishing since I was a teenager.. Love your simple methods and making fishing fun!! Like the look of the tokishuma reels how would you rate them for all round use? (If so can you recommend where to buy one) I live on the door step of mal storeys on kidderminster, Would mainly be for canal and pool fishing with maybe some river in the future..
with winter coming up is there any plans to do ice fishing? as i noticed there aint that many on youtube and it looks fun but obviously not in this country
It does look like an interesting way of fishing but even if we did have the lakes freeze over here, the ice probably wouldn't be thick enough and would likely be dangerous to fish from. good idea though
The barbel will generally pull the quivertip over, all you have to do is pick up the rod fast.Don't strike, just lift quickly. For carp look at our latest winter carp film with Tommy Flowers.
Sorry, never fished there, but take small hooks and go in a supermarket, buy bread and a couple of tins of sardines(in oil,not tomato) and mush up a paste. Then fish small pieces of the paste on say a size 10 freshwater hook. Throw in small amounts like groundbait to get fish feeding.
Try one called a Bibio. Or type the question into your search engine but add the word Forums. You might find others have talked about it.There won't be a lot of fly life around as its still quite cold in March.

Hi ! Your videos are inspiring! Are you using a bolt rig? If you don't, how do you set a hook for barbell or a carp?
The barbel will generally pull the quivertip over, all you have to do is pick up the rod fast.Don't strike, just lift quickly. For carp look at our latest winter carp film with Tommy Flowers.
TAFishing Thank you very much sir!
What feeder would you use for a big lake with no current ?
Open end cage feeder with groundbait that does clog up. You want the feeder empty every time you wind in.
TAFishing ok ill buy one next time i go shoping
have u ever fished in a harbour in Crete? im goin to crete but have no idea what fish i could find there.any ideas?

I have subscribed to your channel and liked you on facebook
Awsome
mal stories is my tackle shop so close to my home
How far do you let the feeder sink????
It goes straight to the river bed, bumps along in the current, then settles in one spot.
I think your dad is absofuckinglutely awesome. I would love to go for a pint with him and learn something
Does your Mum/Wife never ask why she has bluebottle flies in the house IN THE WINTER!!!!!
Haven't you guys heard of razors.
Another boster lads
