Float fishing with maggots - Totally Awesome Fishing Show

  • The Totally Awesome fishing show hits another day ticket water, with Graeme & Mike Pullen using 13 foot match rods and small floats to locate occupants of the fishery. They use maggots, and pass on lots of tips on how to fish, without a tackle plug in sight! As Graeme says "it's techniques that really catch the fish, not the tackle". They catch plenty of fish in just a few hours to show their simple methods work. A true reflection of what Britain's fishing was like 40 years ago when fishing with a float was the most used method, Totally Awesome.

    And this is all what I call fishing !!! I'm fishing since I was 6 y.o using float fishing, maggots, corn, bread . I can't understand anglers using heavy rods, casting in the middle of the lake and sitting for hours, watching telly, reading books , playing with phone .... match rod , float, maggots and lots of fun!!

    Same as we fished on this lake film. Small float. You could fish straight under your rod tip and throw loose feed in more accurately. Make sure you have your reel drag set light though.

    19:57 the dorsal fin isn't upright the pelvic fins that means it's not a roach for sure.
    It can be a hybrid ofcourse, but it can be a rudd as well - just with a pale colors,

    They are both good fish, especially the tench. Well done. Try same method, but loose feed plenty of red maggots, using double reds on the hook, or tip it with a brandling. Feed little and often.

    Whole week of shore films starting from tomorrow night,(17 June 2013) 7pm UK time. We hope to nail up a new film each night for five nights, getting better with each one. Last film is an epic hour-plusser. Thanks watching and spread the word over there. Lots more to come.

    All over, but if you mean one of our favourite spots it would be Watmore Farm Fishery, on the Hants/Surrey border.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 років тому

    Location of the shoals first. Then prebait that area the night before. Fish worms(brandlings) or double red maggots over the top. But location first is the key.

    Look for overhangs,lilies,trees and bushes on the far bank. Carp tend to favour the far bank to keep away from the activity on the towpath. Floating baits, if allowed, can give you an indication if any carp are at home.

    Tiny lakes,out in sticks outside Basingstoke,which is in Hampshire.Can't remember name.Ashlet ? Ashford ? or something. Was £7 a day but gets a lot of pressure in summer.We were lucky,we had a day when only a few anglers there.

  • @TAFishing

    Bread,sweetcorn,maggots.That's all you need to make a start. Don't be afraid to throw some in,especially the bread as they don't catch carp in the bait box !

    I was on my float rod 8 pound main line and 6 pound hook link with a size 14 hook....3 red maggots ! It was a rod length and a half and I caught my pb !!!!! 15.3 !!! I WAS FIGHTING IT FOR 40 minutes!!!! People could see me playing the fish!!! Couldn't believe it !! Amazing !!

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 років тому

    Depends on the depths, but they reckon Legering with maggots and a swimfeeder on top of the bars is usually best for the bigger fish.But not if the bars are really shallow. Fish won't go up on them except in low light. Bar needs to be about four feet from the surface ?

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 років тому

    Inside of bends,slacks,maybe not the fast water. Might pay you to prebait with free offerings in these places first .Use strong smelling baits. Trout pellets etc. so the scent goes downstream. The carp should smell it and start to investigate. River carp can be a lot trickier than lake carp, but can scrap better. Well worth the wait.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 років тому

    We never know where we will fish next,or whether it is sea/coarse/trout.But you might try to track down a fishing club with a junior section that you could join.It will give you more information .Try your local tackle shop first,and good luck with it.

  • @TAFishing

    I couldn't advise a make or model, but around 10 feet would be good to start, but don't buy anything too heavy, or too expensive to start with. I use 9 foot Avon rods for almost all my fishing,they only have something like a 1 1/4 lb test curve and are ideal to start with. Make sure you get a small reel as well, like a match reel, and put about 5lb line on it.

    I'm sorry, I must be living on another planet, but putting groundbait,maggots,bread etc in the water is standard practise for thousands of British freshwater anglers. Its sold in every tackle shop throughout Britain. A multi million pound industry. "Chumming" is the use of chopped/mashed fish used as an attractor in saltwater fishing.Yes,I possibly am stupid, no argument there, but with 50 years of fishing experience I may know a thing or two. I take it you don't go to UK tackle shops very often

      If you've watched a lot of Graeme's videos he buys bran and horse feed in large sacks to keep the costs down. He's trying to help the beginners to keep their fishing budgets low.

    just getting back into angling after about 30 years. used Matt Hayes' float fishing tutorial video and caught bugger all. followed TAF and, within an hour, I'd bagged two small perch, two gudgeon and an accidental carp (biggest fish I've ever caught by a country mile!!). plumb the depth and feed the swim... abso-bloody-lutely! wholemeal bread mashed up in water with a couple handfuls on sweetcorn... the future.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 років тому

    I would contact your local fishing club, see if they have some members wanting to sell second-hand gear. Save yourself a lot over new, plus they might be willing to tell you where/how to fish. Don't get sold heavy carp tackle if you are a beginner. Try fishing at a commercial day ticket venue first. Ask other anglers. And fish in the margins, either Legering or with a float,especially in the evenings. We use Avon rods with 1 1/4lb test curve.6lb line. Small fixed spools. Good luck.
