    The feeling "it's not going to work today' ... i recognize very well. It's something not explainable, but you just no. I think it's what you'v experienced trough the years. I realy could tell he is your brother😁 Thnx Duncan.

      Cheers Paul, all the time you have a bait in the water you have a chance, but as you say, through experience sometimes you just know that the chance of something happening is so slight its just time to wind the rods in and head home!

    Incredible fish and a great video. The 3 rivers rolling baits are great, special the 3rb doing well on Thames!

    Im from lancs n fish on the ribble, now doubles take some effort and a good year might catch a couple.
    I want to bring my dad to the trent to catch a double ! And my lad n a good freind ! , i would love to know the best day ticket stretch to fish ! Now we aint bothered about a long walk ect , . My father has been through bowl cancer but is doing really well so i want to give it a go and give him the best chance !, funny i started commenting before you mentioned your own father.
    Thanks for the video and what a fish ,. Obviously conditions are important so booking could be hit n miss i suppose. Nothing is given!
    👍

      Hi Stephen, Im down in Hampshire so only head to the Trent once a year so apart from Collingham can't really help on other stretches but have head of Bob's Island, might be worth googling?

    Thanks, Duncan, a post full of information about real-world anging. I'd like to ask whats your view on back leads fishing rivers with running leads and bolt rigs.

    • @duncancharmanangling1136
      @duncancharmanangling1136  2 місяці тому

      Hi Andrew, backless, have used them on the Thames when carp fishing but never for barbel but can see the advantage's and disadvantages using them. Might one day do a video on the + & - of using them.

      Please do Duncan, really value your opinion and theres little on the subject,You're one of the few anglinging professionals who keep it real-world and invaluable advice that's not just product placement.

    Sometimes longer hooklenths works but anglers pressure around you makes it hard to many lines in the water is have learnt it even in bad conditions

    • @duncancharmanangling1136
      @duncancharmanangling1136  2 місяці тому

      Long hook lengths were used on this occasion due to the rubbish coming down river and building up around the lead which can mask the hook bait when using short hook lengths.

    It's important to remember that rivers change, and the Trent won't always be as prolific a barbel river as it is today. Every river goes through different cycles, whether it be trout to roach, bream to barbel and they can easily revert back again as rivers like the Hampshire Avon have done. Enjoy it while it lasts.

      The Loddon and Kennet, rivers close to me, and ones I have spent countless hours on where once the rivers to be on, sadly these have gone through years of tough times. The Kennet seems to be on the way back but as for the Loddon, it's still a sorry state. The Thames stays relatively productive and the Avon seems to be bouncing back. Im guessing the Trent has peaked and still going through an amazing spell, but Im fully aware this may not last. As you say, make the most of the good times as nothing lasts forever!

    I’ve fished on the Trent for 120 hours this year and I’ve had two bites which resulted in two barbel weighing in at 15lb 2oz & 11lb 9oz, both on the same day. Well worth the long hours with nothing.

      Absolutely, when you know the venue contains big fish you don't mind putting in the hours! Well done

    A old bloke once told me back in the 60s, worst thing thats happening, barbell getting into the trent, they grub about on the bottom and eat other fishes eggs and will take over, veracious eaters, worst thing ever.
    And hes been proved right 👍

    • @duncancharmanangling1136
      @duncancharmanangling1136  2 місяці тому +1

      Maybe he had a point but then again look at the other species the Trent is throwing up now, roach, carp, bream, pike, zander, and all big, so looks like it doesn't have a bad balance at the moment!

      @duncancharmanangling1136 I've not seen many stick float roach anglers on the Trent, it's all tip lads, to be fair, every river I go on, I'm outnumbered by tip lads 👍

    It’s really funny watching people catch huge barbell knowing that I’m on that stretch all the time also catching those monster barbell it’s cool because I’m actually in the collingham anglers association and my family have a lot of history with it

    Please don't start calling barbel by name it's fishing that's nowhere near to the awful carp fishing.

    • @duncancharmanangling1136
      @duncancharmanangling1136  19 днів тому

      Hi Keith, I hate anglers naming fish, and have never done it myself, but just like the carp fishing world, some barbel anglers feel the need to follow suit.
