@joshuareesor1756 mimi scared the crap out of me as a kid. This was the first Paper Mario game I've ever played, so I was like 7 when I witnessed her head twist upside down and transform into an abomination.
I’m so, so happy that SPM is finally regarded as the tried-and-true third member of the OG Paper Mario trilogy. It’s well-deserved. It’s hard to say whether it’s better or worse than TTYD because it’s so different, which is perfect. We got a third PM game on-par with the second that was completely different!
I personally will always put TTYD over SPM, but I'm fully willing to admit that putting one over the other is more a matter of preference than objective quality. SPM had great ideas, but I vastly prefer the combat system of TTYD even to this day.
Also, I just love Dottie. She has good vibes. She seems like that one friend who lives in a cute, tidy, house and invites you over for tea and sweets when things get stressful.
The reveal that Fleep actually has an interesting and unique interaction with a boss was INSANE, Super Paper Mario is one of my favorite games and I didn't even know that. That's awesome
I love you saying it's considered the last "good" paper mario, because you're probably aware that back when it was new, and actually for a while afterwards, it was marked as the start of the downfall, the first BAD one. I appreciate that it has changed over time, and i just wanted to point out how its changed over time.
A lot of people felt fine with the game on launch. Good but it didn't feel enough like paper mario. But then they basically removed even more rpg mechanics which is when the game got a bad rep since it was seen as the start of the downfall. Eventually though people basically re-looked at it years later and were like "Sure it was the first game to start removing rpg mechanics but it was actually a pretty good game. Not a great rpg but a good platformer"
@@bossbrozork3022 my last time thru the pit was soooo early that I like doubled my level in there and that's the only reason I had the health to survive the boss lmao
Tbh, this is actually my favorite game of all time, I absolutely love the characters, worlds and the STORY. The story is the best in the series and I don’t mind the 2d and no rpg battling, everything is just perfect
Love seeing Super Paper Mario challenges. I remember a few years ago doing a No Items challenge, including anything that came from the overworld and ? Blocks. It went so well and I even did the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials. But what ruined it all was right at the end of the game, Chapter 8-2 where you are forced to take the obvious Mushroom bait for Mimi's trap. You literally cannot progress without using that Mushroom and healing. I was so upset at that.
If I’m being honest, SPM is my favorite video game of all time. Is it perfect? No. Is it objectively better than TTYD? No. That doesn’t matter though. This game was the most amazing thing I ever experienced, and I’m glad it gets the recognition it deserves nowadays.

Dottie is actually quite useful in the Pit of 100 Trials because she makes the enemies not see you and therefore not attack, making rooms like the Koopa one near the end a lot easier during normal gameplay.
This games soundtrack is still so different from any other game ever. I love the whole soundtrack even though im traumatized by ghe the overthere theme since i got stuck there for like a month when i was a child
Super paper mario was probably the first game to really have an inpact on me due to the story. Glad to see it made its way onto this channel, and hopefully you do more challenges with this game (brainrot included ofc)
To this day I’m still flabbergasted that what with how well received the story and unique characters were, Nintendo randomly decided that that SUCKED to the point they apparently put restrictions on it for later entires.
25:38 lol. This looks the ttyd turn-based system in which you are super guarding his very telegraphed attacks, then breathing fire when it is your turn.
Super Paper Mario holds such an important meaning to me and even though I understand why people prefer TTYD or PM64 over it, the story in this game never fails to touch me. I've been going through the earlier Paper Mario titles, I discovered your channel earlier this year, been binging through all of your videos and seeing a SPM video from you makes very very happy. I hope you make more modded SPM videos!
This was a really fun challenge! Thank you for showcasing it - this games really was extraordinarily clever with really fun characters and writing. I wish I'd appreciated it more when I was a kid.
I am endlessly fond of most games that introduce darker concepts while still keeping up both story and humour, which this game excels at. I enjoy every single member of the villain team besides maybe O'Chunks, who needs a little more light, and I am still sad that my favourite genocidal Jester hasn't shown up in anything since. His theme rocks and each of his appearances never failed to entertain, much like his role!
As much as I adore Super and genuinely consider it to be the definition of peak fiction, every boss could've done with like twice the HP because it's so easy to absolutely floor them in a minute flat and they end up being really forgettable. Thank goodness we have challenge UA-camrs to completely flip the script and make them torturously long instead.
Currently 49 minutes into the video. I gotta say, even though I think Paper Mario is best when turn based, this is a top tier video of yours! This reminds me a LOT of what it's like to play FromSoft games without a guide and with unoptimal builds. Most fromsoft players copy each other's builds and strategies, but if you use unpopular weapons, you end up in super interesting scenarios where you have to experiment and attempt each boss for hours to get through. I feel like my worlds are colliding, seeing this with Mario.
Im 140% sure he discovered that flip fist thing after playing this game off and on for almost 15ish years and i never even thought to use fleep offensively
I think Super Paper Mario's main balance problem lies in the fact that you level up too quickly and that there is so much that just doubles your attack power. Level up at half the rate and give Bowser (and Super Jump) a flat +2 bonus to his jump damage (but not fire) over Mario, Peach, and Luigi and the game might offer up a nice difficulty. Boomer, Thudley, and Cudge could even retain their double damage that way because it's hard to hit with them. Also, I think King Croacus is probably the most well-designed boss in the game just from a gameplay-perspective. Also also, Slim is worst Pixl.
ngl, I was a Wii kid, so SPM is the first Paper Mario game I ever played, and with me being a child, I assumed it was Super PAPER Mario instead of SUPER Paper Mario, if that makes sense.
This challenge taught me things i didn't know about the game. Also i'll never forget renting this game as a kid and thinking you HAD to work off the debt. i grinded for hours, used a rubberband + coins to hold down on the wheel as i slept (as it was a school night) and woke up to great disappointment and confusion when i didn't get like anything for it. Eventually i had to look it up as i still needed to beat the game in the 5 days we rented it for... I would have never found slim as a kid.
57:00 You know, I have been so privately proud of myself for the last few years for doing that trick within an hour. That feeling has now been shattered lmao
24:04 I've given this game countless playthroughs and thought I've seen everything, but that's evidently not true given my surprised reaction to the Brobot fight in 3D.
when I saw stream title when streams were going on, I thought it was vanilla game and you have to purposefully avoid every non-forced encounter to avoid levelling up
I love this game. Having completed it several times, and done the flipside pit even before chapter 2, I do have to say that the difficulty of the main story is beyond easy. Maybe it could have use a difficulty setting, but who knows. Enjoyed watching your stream beating Wracktail.
Imagine going to hell, picking a fight, and then you get struck by lightning 7 times in a row. I'd reconsider my life choices, but Bowser is built different, ig.
Are you not doing the "chapter titles zoom in with beats of the music" thing anymore? I really enjoyed that unique stylistic touch and associated it a lot with your style. :( I'd miss if it it was gone.
As a child I didn’t have dogass memory so 5-1 I was able to enter the code without issue while today I could forget the last two numbers of a 4-digit code
We should get Mr. Bringle Paper Mario Master to play Block Tales! (It's like Paper Mario 64, with some balance changes, and earthbound mechanics/themes thrown in) It just had a Halloween(ish) update, and its a fun game on Roblox (which is pretty rare) plus there is some awesome challenge material given the Challenge cards you can equip, like double pain, gusto, and thrill seeker. The only worry about the game is that there is no ally system until like chapter three (and I wouldn't call it a classic TTYD Ally System) unless you get some friends to party up with you, but the game is still just fine solo in my opinion.
The day of challenge runs in other Paper Mario games has finally come! Would love to see you play the original PM64 and The Origami King as well one day
I have tried Low Exp runs for this game and enjoyed them a lot. Croacus and the Brobot fights are a lot of fun. Ultimately I think it’s the preferred way to play Super.
I don't remember the block puzzle being painful for me as a kit, they specifically told you to write it down so I wrote it down. Though, I often had a little slip of paper tucked in the cover of the game in those days for maps and notes. Papa's an old-school RPG gamer and he showed me how to take notes by writing down the healing cheats for Morrowind on Xbox. Which is something I haven't thought about in ages, so that was a nice kick of nostalgia.
I actually did this challenge myself back then, it was a very fun challenge. Also trying to do it with only Mario, since the others just have too OP abilities. Additionally I only used healing items. Fighting Bowser was actually one of the tougher ones. I think I also remember the first Brobot being immune to my shots, but not to the missiles.

This was my 1st ever Paper Mario. I’ve never beat it (and want to) but it holds a special place that I will fill. It truly deserves the love that 10-11 year old me should’ve given it
Gotta love Super Paper Mario, it was hated unfairly because most people wanted it to just be an exact clone of TTYD and hated it when there an original idea but looking back it’s a really really good game with a great story and fun gameplay
If you want more Super Paper Mario challenges, you should try a hit challenge where you try to beat the game without getting hurt once. Or maybe a minimum kills challenge where you kill as few enemies as possible? Either which way, I love the Super Paper Mario content
The rise of SPM content and appreciation over the last few years brings a tear to my eye :') this is one of my favorite games of all time, like it is for many, and this was so much fun to watch. The blatant hate for the game simply not being turn-based was never fair, but i have been able to shed my rose-colored nostalgia glasses and see that yeah, the game sadly is very much unbalanced, and some of the levels are much less interesting than they could have been (though personally the most tedious parts people always bring up never bothered me that much). It makes me sad, because if the level design had been stronger and the bosses harder/more balanced, SPM might have been regarded as the true masterpiece it is in my biased heart lol. I still really do think that despite its gameplay flaws, its charm and heart carries it through, and of course the story and music. 💖 I hope you do more SPM videos in the future....!
I would say this was my first paper mario game, but so far it's been my only paper mario game, so... (haven't gotten around to the ttyd remake, trying to finish super mario rpg first lol) Anyways, this game is one of my top five favourite games of all time ever, and I was so shocked when I first learned that people didn't like it (though I'm glad to see people have warmed up to it over time), it was owned by a girl who lived across the street from me and was only occasionally around due to her parents being divorced, and since I was too young to understand the concept of spin-offs, I didn't realize it was anything other than a regular mario game with a funky artstyle. Together, we could NOT get past the ch 2 Mimi bossfight, so I feel a little bad hearing you call it easy 😂. One time, I asked her if I could bring it to my own house to try getting past the boss fight while she was with her other parent, and she said yes. I proceeded to beat the entire game within like a week, because I was the SUPERIOR GAMER. Either way, as I said, since I had no conception of the other Paper Mario games, I was really surprised to learn that it was disliked, but in retrospect, I can understand WHY people were upset at the massive change in gameplay, but on its own, it's definitely a really solid game, especially if you're someone like me who's big on story.
Brobot getting upgraded with hands only for them to be used against them is some hidden comedy I didn't know I needed until now
And the missiles,
MISSILES
That's like some Incredibles shit
the fact that it's fleep as well that makes this happen, never did I imagine they'd have a use in battle
I guess you could say Brobot wasn't ready to catch those hands, huh?

i dunno if they wanted clone or just an expansion of turned based combat, not platforming 2d combat, no action commands.
funny thing, i was about to watch the vods, but now you just uploaded an edited version of the streams
so uhh, thanks i guess?
Watching these streams live was so much fun!
If you want more Super Paper Mario challenges, you should try a hit challenge where you try to beat the game without getting hurt once.
Or maybe a minimum kills challenge where you kill as few enemies as possible?
Either which way, I love the Super Paper Mario content
It would probably be really cool to see a TAS do this
The first three paper Mario games are still some of favorites to this day.
(haven't gotten around to the ttyd remake, trying to finish super mario rpg first lol)
Anyways, this game is one of my top five favourite games of all time ever, and I was so shocked when I first learned that people didn't like it (though I'm glad to see people have warmed up to it over time), it was owned by a girl who lived across the street from me and was only occasionally around due to her parents being divorced, and since I was too young to understand the concept of spin-offs, I didn't realize it was anything other than a regular mario game with a funky artstyle.
Heck yea we superin on this paper Mario
I can play a large amount of this game in my head
This video is a perfect representation of how questionable of a game SPM is
this goes so hard,,, great work!! so curious if the pit(s) would be possible with the same setup
Bowser with Carrie and Barry were my main load outs back in the day when I had this game
Bringle!
I was falling asleep to the streams but now I can actually watch the main content! Hooray
25:17 ahhhhhhhh the nostalgia! i still have the little slip of paper where i wrote it down (M R L...) and i still remember what it is 75% of the time!
i like how for once, fleep does something useful
this is the dark souls of spm challenges
dottie was the mvp in this tbh. as she usually is
Criminally underrated
Dottie is really good in the 100 trial pits
I wish nintnedo would bring back Dimentio. He's my favorite paper mario villain
37:00 It was free!
For the Sammer Guy lmao
Best story in a Mario game hands down.
I got stuck on the block puzzle for months as a kid, because you have to type please a specific way.
