    • @anpruch
      @anpruch 7 місяців тому +89

      @@ShadowHeartValentinequite a few linguistic generalized concepts don't act like a binary switch "it's a tree, and it's not", but a spectrum with the objects what are closer to the core of the definition (this prototypical entity, representing the generalized concept in speakers' minds), and objects that hang out at the periphery. Birds, nuts, trees, fruits, receptacles for liquids etc. It's really interesting!

    • @ShadowHeartValentine
      @ShadowHeartValentine 7 місяців тому +55

      @@anpruch for fish and trees, it both linguistic and taxonomic. Since "fish" is the best shape for free-swimming aquatic creatures, so many unrelated things have become fish. It's the same with trees, just that plants have drastic enough differences that we can reasonably argue about them. It really is pretty fun to learn about

      yup. I am a biology student. Its actually crazy how weird taxonomie can be. Species were defined by similarities before we knew genetics, which means that parts of the category system are at least partially wrong, or that certain things are a little blurry, like the definition for trees. Thats why the taxonomie is always changing. For example, in the 90s, a scientist discovered that there are actually not 2 domains (procaryotes and eucaryotes), but actually 3. The 3rd on are the archaea, which have unique metabolism and are biochemically and genetically similar to eucaryotes, but they are single celled organisms without a nucleous, so scientists thought they were bacteria before biochemistry and genetics got good enough to test it that way.@@JoshuaRennig

      @@cubinator3826Yes actually. Burned wood and stuff im general is full of minerals from the heat causing chemical reactions. This is true of forest fires too, at least non catastrophic ones. Natural forest fires actually cause explosions in ecosystem plant health within a generation or so. Volcanic ash is full of minerals from the mantle and crust, so it is even healthier. It replenishes the mineral content of soil that over a long period of time may be barren or becoming so.

    It'd be fascinating to see how people angle themselves to hit consecutive trees, like if the desert series can be chain-hit somehow. That'd shave a looooot of time off!

    This video feels like something my friends would ask in a discord call at 2AM, then proceed to play said game and manually count each tree. It's unconventionally interesting, scratching that weirdly specific itch I never knew I even had.
