Didnt look like a bad session from here. Locked in frontside and backside 5050's, boardslides, manuals. You've got the fundamentals down, that Smith grind wont be far off dude. Nice work! 👍🤘
Thanks!! I think I just need to set the expectations low sometimes 😂 rather than thinking I was going to get it straight away. Officially added to the goal list.
Yea you're absolutely right, the worst sessions are the ones that never happened. Think lately I've just put pressure on myself to do different things, and well thats just not what skatings about. Definitely have a new outlook on this crazy little journey with a focus to just have fun.
I think the smith stalls looked better than they felt, you're closer than you might think. You're pops look effortless, which makes me think I'm jumping too much and not "popping" enough. Nice 180 off the manny pad too btw. 🤙🏼
Think I just need to find a smaller obstacle so I can get the stall and the feel for where the weight should be. Ollies are such a weird thing to describe; it's a combination of popping and jumping. I tried to explain it in an ollie tip video I made around the 3-minute mark. The majority of the jumping motion comes from squatting down and not hinging down. I find when I hinge over, I can't really get my board to do anything.
Takes a little getting used to squatting more, but I feel like this motion improved the pop jump... Oh, and of course, just practicing the squat jump without a board around the house helped too. Wife and dogs look at me like, "WTF are you doing?" but they're used to it now 😂
Hell yeh man, I’m jealous of that front noseslide, it’s on my list , never learned to slappy nose at all and want to. And my front smiths look worse, I don’t understand that one yet. I’m making similar content🤙 will definitely be watching!
Appreciate it, man! You have a sick channel-'learning transition tricks when you're old as sh*t' 😂 love that title! You're definitely doing great!! Keep killing it. Front nose is a work in progress; I need to get more comfortable sitting with the weight of my foot on the ledge... and of course, get more confident with the blind side aspect of all things frontside. Slappy stuff is also on my list. I’ve been trying to find a good curb or obstacle for them, but most of the curbs here are pretty crusty. After watching the smith grind footage over and over, I think it comes down to commitment/fear and finding the right back foot weight on the tail. When looking at my footage, I never fully committed, and it almost looks like I held back from getting up and onto the actual ledge. Hoping to sack up and just plant the tail up there and figure it out. Definitely a lot harder than I anticipated."
@@OldBrokenSkater Thanks man I appreciate the feedback on my channel. And for sure, some tricks seem impossible just because of the fear aspect! There are so many that I know I'm capable of, it's just starting that process of dulling the fear down. But as you know, that 's how the ollie felt at first, we just gotta trust the same process that got us to this point and keep moving forward. And yeh the front smith is a weird one to commit to, even just the stall because of how you need to land on the back truck, such a strange feeling at first
So hard on that ledge, thinking a curb might be a better time. Still need to find a nice long painted curb near us. Next crowded park day, we’ll have to skate the driveway 😂
Man, it’s funny how a seemingly easy trick can be so hard I rolled my ankle last week on Monday, so I’ve been off the board minus some stationary manuals for 5mins. I’m waiting for a new deck to arrive anyway. I can prob get back to skating next week. Anything jumping is prob a no-go for a bit, but I can at least work on manuals and nose stalls. Maybe work on switch stance or go to the park and roll up and down some banks
It’s the wildest thing, it looked easy and all the vids explained how easy it was... I was already doing these in my head. Man, what a surprise I was in for 😂 Sorry to hear you're banged up, man. Hopefully, you have a speedy and good recovery! You have a solid plan-manuals and nose stalls should be light enough and a great way to keep you skating, as well as rolling around the park/transitions. Skating switch is my go-to when I think I don't want to skate... ends up being a good time. I think the challenge makes it worthwhile.
Your funny man! Your bad session is better than my good session! LOL I love manuals but for some reason I can't seem to get a nose manual, I have regular manuals down and I can get a decent fakie manual but nose manuals something weird about them just doesn't feel right. Yours look good how do you get used to that feeling? Anyway man great sesh!!
Thanks, Wes! No more bad sessions after this video for me😂 Only good ones, even if I don’t land what I wanted to. For nose manuals, I started out holding on to something… think it was the end of my truck… so I could figure out where the weight needed to sit. For me, my front shoulder is over my hip and nose of the board. Once I figured that part out, it was just constantly doing little ones in the driveway. Slow ones and somewhat faster ones. I would pick a point or make a start line and finish line and increase their distances. This is definitely one of those tricks you have to keep doing all the time so you get the "board feel" under you. Maybe I'll do a vid or add it to a vid soon.
It wasn't all bad you got a few nice tricks and the smith was there it wasn't too far away. If you wanted to try it on something lower you could try on your manny pad first then take it to the box.
Yeah, I wanted to try it on the manny pad first, and looking back, even though the wheels touched the pavement, it would have been a good choice to feel it out first. Lesson learned and added to the work in progress. Thanks for the support, brother! 🙌
I appreciate that! We all have those tough sessions and sometimes put pressure on ourselves-I know I have lately. But it’s all about getting out there, enjoying the ride, and just having fun. That’s what counts!
Awesome driveway sesh and effortless looking flow you have! The Ollie to nose manuals look rad and that BS nose stall/slide to fakie didn’t go unnoticed …. 👊🏻
Looking forward to seeing you continue with the smith grind mate, it’s one I’ve been threatening to try for a while.
Thanks a lot! I’m hoping to try them again soon... but we’ll see how it goes 😂

Any session better than no session! You may not have got to the park but you are so lucky to have all of that on your driveway!

@@OldBrokenSkater sometimes my pop feels good, I just need to be more consistant. The hinging over I am probably making a bad habit of.
