      Hell yea man!! 🙌 Plenty of time to get it!!! I found that it's a bit easier to do tricks out of the bank. The ones I've done on flat are terrible because I can't bring the knees/legs up high enough yet. So the banks helps for now until I can start seeing benefits from box jumps and step up exercises.

      Thanks! Slappys are so hard-can't grasp the concept without lifting up the nose. Not enough curbs around to spend time on them either. I was super lucky my wheels held for the most part. The more comfortable you get, start shifting your weight towards the ledge. Meaning have your hips closer to the ledge. Right now your weight is closer to your tail which is making it harder to lock in. Think frontside 180 and land with all your weight on the sliding foot.

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 4 дні тому

      Yes sir!!! Thats my biggest flaw I need to fix. Getting the hips over the ledge and sitting on the nose. Think it's a confidence thing I gotta work through. I can do these with no ollie / almost slappy with the hip and weight centered. Just the gotta commit, thanks for tips bro!

    Second I saw that rainbow rail, I thought “I would totally love to try that. I’d bust my butt, but would like to try it” I’m used to skating in the street, so it always takes me 5 mins to get used to the slickness of my garage or skateparks

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 4 дні тому

      Such a fun little feature! I think this is the second one I’ve done. It looks really intimidating at first, but after a few attempts to figure out the lock-in, it’s not so bad. Each time, I’ve worried that the back wheel would catch towards the end, but in reality, that’s not really possible. I’m always overthinking these things! 😂 The slickness of the park took a bit of getting used to, but luckily, I had somewhat softer wheels, so it wasn’t as bad for me as it was for one of my friends on 99s. He really had to work for that extra grip!

  • @joeoconnell4235
    @joeoconnell4235 4 дні тому

    Nice video! Nice to see some real life skating opposed to all the video parts and pros I watch. I’m just starting in my late 30s, so watching some regular guys at the park is inspiring. How do you like those Nano Rats? Are they the 97 or 93? I could tell you had some softer wheels the way you were gliding and from the quiet roll. I feel like it’s hard learning stuff at the park on regular 99a classic wheels because they are so quick. I think dropping the durometer a bit to a 97 or even the 93 dragons might help a little. I’m doing well, but learning stuff like rock to fakie is hard when the wheels shoot out down the quarter pipe.

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 4 дні тому

      Thanks! Appreciate it! I can’t relate to many of the new skate videos or sessions unless it’s a beginner or someone getting into skating and just working for their lines. Seeing that kind of skating makes it more real and inspiring, like you said. Love the Nano Rats-they’re 56mm 93s, and they’ve performed really well on everything from crusty streets to a super dusty indoor skatepark recently. They have a super smooth roll, especially at the concrete parks I frequent. The only other wheel that comes close is the Nano Cubics (the red circle ones)-can’t remember the duros off the top of my head. Love those wheels too! I’d try the Nano Rats out, though, if you’re on parks mostly. Keep an eye out-I sometimes do tips videos for things I see others wanting help with, and rock to fakie is on the list. But yeah, try Nano Rats toooo!!!

      Thanks! Super fun, just a bit dusty-could use a regular mopping. Luckily, I had Nano Rats 56mm 93a (I think 39 wide). They held up very, very well, even when caked in dust. One of the friends had to switch out the harder wheels he was skating because it was pretty slick.

      @ Remind me, are you skating an 8” or 8.25” setup? I’ve settled in seemingly to the 8.5-8.6 range because damn the control is so much better than bigger decks.

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 6 днів тому

      Currently 8.8" on slappy trucks with 56mm Nano Rats. Really been thinking about giving an 8-8.25" another go. I think that width range is pretty optimal. Bigger decks are too 'floaty,' I’m finding. I’m 5'10", about 145 lbs, size 10 shoe, so while I love the float of the 8.8", I think it’s hindering a little board feel for me.

    • @Steves_SkateXplosion
      @Steves_SkateXplosion 6 днів тому

      @@OldBrokenSkater Oh it’s wider than it looked on camera. Another skater friend of mine tried an 8.75 deck recently and he ran into the same thing. Big and floaty and lacking in control and feel. So he went back to an 8”. I used to think wider decks were “safer”, but on these lip tricks we’re doing I find the smaller decks stay stuck to our feet better so it feels more secure to me now.

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 6 днів тому

      Totally my opinion, but I think if you have bigger feet and are into kinda old-school boards or are just starting out, anything over 8.5 is great to learn on and start to understand board feel. Once you get used to skating, going down in width is super helpful. Again though if you have bigger feet then theres only so much you can size down. Definitely feels way safer! I'm sure you know-it’s less terrifying knowing you’re making it back over the coping because you feel the board in the right place.

    Nice job on the noseslides dude. Your transition skating is damn good, loved your fakie pop rocks they were perfect! Keep shredding man, hope the knees alright. 👍🤘🛹

      Thank you!!! Hoping to get some transition skating "tips" vids out in 2025 to spread the love. Been figuring out little things to make ramp skating fun. Knee is doing good now, found a better brace to keep the joints happy. Now just gotta work on getting stamina up for longer sessions 😂

    Fabulous sesh and vid! Loving the nose slides,they looked great 👊🏻 I’m considering getting Slappy trucks on my next set up, I ride Independents mainly as I couldn’t afford them as a kid 🤪

      Appreciate it, Simon! We're making some progress!! I had Indys when I started back up again, and they just weren't quite the same as I remembered them as a kid. Thunders have treated me very well, but I just could never pump the high wall in the bowl, even with super loose trucks. The Slappys made it happen-guess they’re known for being turny or having more turn radius. I definitely love them from the bits I can tell so far. Still yet to try and kickflip with them 😂

      Absolutely can tell the difference in them and love how they turn on transition. Been wanting to get comfortable on that bench for a while-hopefully before spring I get some stuff on it. Heat wave coming soon again, above 30 this weekend 😂. Think I’m free Saturday early and Sunday all day, but I think the low Sunday is single digits 😂.

    Thanks for showing the process on the nose stall on the ledge. It would take me forever just to get one stall on that. It’s pretty high. 👊

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 8 днів тому

      Thanks! It’s super high to me. I think I got one solid stall where, when I watched myself in slow motion, I actually put all my weight on the ledge with my hips centered. Love having footage to make corrections for next time. Hopefully, you’re getting some snow skate or skate sessions in! Also, I’ve watched the video you did on building your box like 10 times already and I'm planning to build one in the 8-10' range for the basement. Anything you wish you’d done differently or would change now? Other than giving the angle iron that roundish edge.

    • @StuffnThings42
      @StuffnThings42 7 днів тому

      @ I’m really happy with the construction itself. After all the skating I’ve done on it, it’s still really sturdy. The angle iron needs some care at the beginning to get it smooth and slippery, but it’s worth it. That’s great that you’ll be able to go 8 or more feet long. That’s great sounds super fun.

      @OldBrokenSkater 7 днів тому

      Thanks!! Love the height of yours and the video you made shows to be fairly easy to make. Also love the insane amount of tricks you're doing on it. Thanks for the input!

    • @StuffnThings42
      @StuffnThings42 7 днів тому

      Specifically for the iron… I used a grinder with a flap disk to get the metal smooth and shiny. Then I hit it with a scour pad by hand to sort of hand polish it. Best of luck. 👊👍

    Doesn't take much to know if you like slappy's or not. I got some harder duro slappy bushings can't wait to try those. Looks like you'll have that noseslide in no time.🤙🏼

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 8 днів тому

      😂 I know! Within the first 10 minutes, I knew these are my new go-to's. That bowl is tight on the higher side, and I've struggled to get a nice flowy turn without picking my front up a bit to turn. I've loosened the Thunders to the point of wheel bite and just couldn’t get the flow. The slappy’s turn radius, though, let me get higher on the wall than I have before on the frontside-consistently too. I was super stoked to get a nice highline without feeling sketched out. Hopefully, it’ll lead to getting on the coping. Thanks, btw! I’ll be chipping away at that noseslide as the weather allows.

    Your first make on that nose stall was awesome, dude! I need to get to using my funbox for grinds and slides. I've used my parking blocks more, but they're less forgiving on grinds, lol

    • @OldBrokenSkater
      @OldBrokenSkater 8 днів тому

      Thanks!!! I've had my eye on that bench/ledge for some time and tried it a long while ago, so I figured I'd start to revisit it. I think just chipping away with a noseslide and maybe a 50-50 will help me on the quest to develop a higher jump or better knee tuck. I recently tried to slappy a curb, and it kicked my ass-it was the first one I've done since I was a teen. Wish I could steal a nice long curb to practice just slappys. The box comes in super handy for grinds and slides.
