I am a big fan of your redesigns in general, but I think this one is by far my favorite one yet (maybe because I use UA-cam the most idk). The comments, personalization, and general organization in this redesign are all things UA-cam desperately needs
It's not added on purpose. UA-cam wants the algorithm to keep you engaged, not for you to quickly drop in watch a few specific videos and leave. Same reason search is useless now. They don't want or need to find the video you're looking for; just to find anything that you'll watch.
It really *could* look like this if anyone at HQ cared, but the modern UA-cam UI was probably all just conceived through A/B testing to maximize engagement and watch time over usability. @morganisapro8k oh yeah, 100% Generally, we have those for a reason. Twitch IMO has a different approach, where chat is just this giant hive mind, individual people don't really matter, and we should focus on the stream. YT feels a bit more focused on the comments/chat.

I really hate when they recommend shorts on the video feed, keep a different section, whenever I'm watching a video and a short section in there as suggestion, I hate that so much.
Should've been a separate domain/app altogether. There is a ton of people with zero interest in short videos. But it's clear why it is how it is from the business perspective.

Love these ideas! Can't believe some of these basic UX things like not being able to watch a video while reading comments have just never been solved by YT themselves
So far, the best redesign project i've see! I would love if youtube would be like your design, i mean, it's so smart and pleasing. Btw, i love you voice
Am I the only one who's shocked that multiple screens in this video feature other UA-cam videos that were released just yesterday or the day before? A lot of the recommendations in here were also videos I've seen in my recommendations 🤯
Being able to have “Friends” on UA-cam was a thing at one point in its very early days up until around 2011ish I wanna say. Use to be able to send people messages/mail, it was nice
They aren't going to. Google is not a software development company (like they pretend they are) they're an advertisement company. Why would they let people choose what they're advertised? That'd defeat the whole purpose of advertisement. I'm not against advertisement whatsoever, this 'merica, but I do wish they'd actually let people turn off personalized ads and videos. And I think they should make "not interested" actually remove videos in that category from their history, making it actually functional.
Yeah this is incredible. But I bet the reason they don't do it is because if they change one thing, it may have an effect on some outdated, hidden but highly necessary code.
9:55 The new mini player is the BEST thing UA-cam has changed in a while, so that's the thing that shouldn't be changed (because now I get to add other videos to playlists without exiting the video I'm watching) If you want to close just hold the mini player and swipe down. Easy and simple. (This is for mobile btw)
@hanmira not really, no (in a specific but common case for me) (._.) If you're referring to adding videos to playlists was possible while the old mini player was here, yes, you could, the problem was that if you were adding videos from a playlist (that isn't yours and you don't want/care about all the videos in it) to yours, with the old mini player, you couldn't add the last video of the playlist without exiting the video you were watching. It seems like it's a very specific problem that wouldn't happen a lot, but, at least to me, it happened on a daily basis. I was so glad when they finally made the mini player able to move, because now I can get that last video while still watching the video I want (idk if I have it public, but I have a playlist that is essentially a "watch later" but made by me, so it'll appear in portuguese, and it has over 400 videos there... so yeah, that feature was incredibly helpful to me :D) (pardon me for any errors, english is my 2nd language)
15:53 About the playlists, i would like if youtube would actually tell what video was removed, like a notification and actually naming the video that was removed instead of saying "video removed"
@@findya I wonder if any of her redesigns have been adapted for real, officially or otherwise, it'd be nice to actually use the suggested UI in these videos.
A redesign from scratch is something soooo many sites need, but the people in charge just dont care enough sadly. You always show me and us how good the UX/UI can be. Frustrating to see the current flawed designs. Thank you for being an inspiration for me to strive to make better UI/UX ^^
Every now and then I run into this kind of video that redesigns a site or app, and usually it's needless or detrimental change, but this video was spot on. I agree with everything 100%. All that's left is for YT to employ you!
I think everything here is great, only thing I would keep as it is are the channel icons on live chat because they help me easily identify users. I also think DMs for sharing would be nice and this other method would be a bit confusing to use, but since they already ditched DMs I’m sure they won’t bring them back as you said. Anyways, overall this a fantastic redesign and I hope they take some of the ideas :)
at some point, corporate design stopped being about giving you what you want and being appealing to focusing on altering your behavior and "guiding" you to what they want. With each update, youtube takes more control from you and forces more things you don't want at you.
You did an awesome work here! "New to you" is always in the back of the categories, for me and "sharing" - no need, if I watch 2 or more videos, for example "How to decorate an awesome Christmas Tree!" my friend, in another county gets his recommendations flooded with Christmas decorations and I get F1 videos in my feed, within an hour, without being on the same network! UA-cam is scary that way...

I really hate when they recommend shorts on the video feed, keep a different section, whenever I'm watching a video and a short section in there as suggestion, I hate that so much.
yeah but that leads to more engagement
Should've been a separate domain/app altogether. There is a ton of people with zero interest in short videos. But it's clear why it is how it is from the business perspective.
Unhooked plugin for browser and revanced for mobile :)
@oppressor5599 @ivanjermakov indeed, that's true. I really hate those 1 minute videos, they are mostly filled with cringe stuff.
@@bosch5303 I used vanced for a long time but nowadays I prefer to use youtube client applications, because vanced used a bit more battery, although not it's not a big problem and still a good option nevertheless.
This is excellent UX work!
Excited to see the browser extension for this!
I've been waiting for this!
:-)
I've been waiting for this! 🎉
Btw your videos are amazing, you're an amazing designer, you just think of everything.
This redesign is absolutely brilliant!
I'm so surprised by how actually AMAZING your redesign turned out! Like, i want to youtube look exactly like your design.
This is absolutely amazing! The design is so clean and user-friendly, it really feels like the perfect evolution of UA-cam's UI. I wish UA-cam would actually implement something like this. It would be such a game-changer! Great job, truly impressive work! 👏
Love these ideas! Can't believe some of these basic UX things like not being able to watch a video while reading comments have just never been solved by YT themselves
that's a debatable thing i guess.
You don't need to simultaneously look at the comments AND the video, just either one.
Yet another video that is going to leave me sad that the real product isn't like your version :(
Love the changes, and it was nice seeing
10:40 the way she removed the comment section😭
ACCUSATIONS.
ugh, spoilers!
😝
So far, the best redesign project i've see! I would love if youtube would be like your design, i mean, it's so smart and pleasing. Btw, i love you voice
0:06 So glad to see Man Carrying Thing up there. The absolute miss, he never legends!
7:47 what about "Oldest first"?
I need the collections feature!!! Banging redesign as always
MAKE. THIS. A. BROWSER. EXTENSION
yes!
Am I the only one who's shocked that multiple screens in this video feature other UA-cam videos that were released just yesterday or the day before? A lot of the recommendations in here were also videos I've seen in my recommendations 🤯
As another UX/UI Designer and Developer, you did a FANTASTIC job here! Really nothing I could even dream of adding!
BRO having subscription videos on a timeline is genius 😭
Being able to have “Friends” on UA-cam was a thing at one point in its very early days up until around 2011ish I wanna say. Use to be able to send people messages/mail, it was nice
5:00 please youtube
They aren't going to. Google is not a software development company (like they pretend they are) they're an advertisement company. Why would they let people choose what they're advertised? That'd defeat the whole purpose of advertisement. I'm not against advertisement whatsoever, this 'merica, but I do wish they'd actually let people turn off personalized ads and videos. And I think they should make "not interested" actually remove videos in that category from their history, making it actually functional.
I almost cried at your pitch at the end
Incredible work! The level of detail and creativity in redesigning the entire UA-cam UI from scratch is truly impressive.
4:48 love the "how a cat works"
4:37 naaah youtube will never do this. Like seriously not a chance.
3:22 UA-cam on iOS did this for awhile, and reverted the change as soon as I had gotten used to it.
When?
I just want to say that your channel is GODLY MAGNIFICENT. THANK YOU for existing
Jux did it again! Seriously, if we had you working as the lead designer for these companies, the world would be a much much better place fr
3:13 What frustrates me is that they _used to_ have a library button on mobile. At some point they replaced it with the shorts button. -_-
they still have it, its just re branded and now says "You" with your channel logo
@@morganisapro8k Eeeh It's not the same though. The library button used to go right to a list of my playlists and liked/watch later videos.
UA-cam SHOULD PAY YOU TO MAKE THIS REAL OMFG
Yeah this is incredible. But I bet the reason they don't do it is because if they change one thing, it may have an effect on some outdated, hidden but highly necessary code.
this is one of the best ux ui videos i have ever seen, I love the ad preview you made at the end too. Subbed.
It actually happened, it was actually done. Awesome redesign as always, now I really want to use it. Also the rewind, we need the rewind
But you could do that before also?
@hanmira not really, no (in a specific but common case for me) (._.)
If you're referring to adding videos to playlists was possible while the old mini player was here, yes, you could, the problem was that if you were adding videos from a playlist (that isn't yours and you don't want/care about all the videos in it) to yours, with the old mini player, you couldn't add the last video of the playlist without exiting the video you were watching.
Is there no way to tell youtube to adapt this design??? This will definitely be a game changer fr... Great video btw... 👍
My suggestion is to wait until someone makes a browser extension/addon based off Jux's design
@findya cool but UA-cam will for sure hunt it down
@@TheAntinity alright... That's a relief
@@TheAntinity since Firefox has it's own separate extensions, it would be also nice touch to adapt it there
@@findya I wonder if any of her redesigns have been adapted for real, officially or otherwise, it'd be nice to actually use the suggested UI in these videos.
A redesign from scratch is something soooo many sites need, but the people in charge just dont care enough sadly.
You always show me and us how good the UX/UI can be. Frustrating to see the current flawed designs.
Thank you for being an inspiration for me to strive to make better UI/UX ^^
oh geez this is perfection :D not only your idea but you channel as well.
you have one subscriber here.
5:08
LINUX!!!!!!!!!!
clearly the Year of the Linux Desktop is upon us (I use Arch btw)
ARCH!!!!!!! (btw)
10:33 the way she removed the comment section 😭
Every now and then I run into this kind of video that redesigns a site or app, and usually it's needless or detrimental change, but this video was spot on.
I agree with everything 100%.
All that's left is for YT to employ you!
This is actually the best redesign yet, I love the tags/recommendation feature so much
I think everything here is great, only thing I would keep as it is are the channel icons on live chat because they help me easily identify users.
Works with design and watches Dave2D. Juxtopposed really does have a good eye.
I love every one of your redesign videos.
Hey under appreciated employee at UA-cam watching this! Want to be loved by all the users? Make sure these concepts are heard, seen, and implemented please and thanks! 🙏🏻 We would highly appreciate this and love you!
Someone should make (most of) this real and throw it up on Stylus, would love to have this layout on PC.
Wonderful! This needs to go viral. Thank you! Subscribed.
This needs to happen! UA-cam/Google needs to hire this person asap and make her the Director of UI/UX.
You nailed it ! well done !!
The level of effort put into the editing alone is mind blowing. Kudos on the excellent video and design
I don't really comment all that much, but you are simply BRILLIANT! Great stuff!!
