With all due respect, forget about jet skis and Nazare: The men who paddled in at the beginning of this video are at the absolute cutting edge of big wave surfing 🤙
@@godisbollocksReally? A great paddle ride wins over a tow ride. Depends on your taste I guess… Tow surfing on big waves looks like those remote control toys 😂
@trifin5772 It's just that the tow guys have so much more speed, so much more manoeuvrability, so much more time to put themselves in the pit. They're not having to steer an enormous boat of a board that barely wants to turn. I get that paddle-in is far more difficult, and props to that. But look at arguably the largest paddle-in wave ever ridden - Aaron Gold at Jaws. All he did was go straight and get smoked by the whitewater. Who wants to watch that?
I had a camera for a day like this in 2004 . 60-80+ and perfect, at that point it was the biggest waves ever ridden. There definitely was nobody paddling that day.. 20ft at 22 secs I should digitize the tape.
Now that is how you put together a surf video of big waves! Music was perfect and the wave selection was spot on. Those guys are incredible to take those slabs on!
That heavy lip falling on his head at 01:01 looks insane. I can't imagine the feeling and weight of it smacking my body, followed by several cartwheels underwater with a long hold down. Dang.
Absolutely mind blowing. Those waves look like living creatures. The size and force of the explosion at the impact zone is difficult to comprehend. Huge respect for those out there getting after it.
That entire clip was nuts, the paddlers breaking new ground , Albee was next level , and the tow waves were massive and at that stage maybe not even possible to be paddled , legends all of them .
@@Kfloochprobably why they could paddle in as hardly anyone out there. On a busy day all it takes is a few tow ins and it's a case of if you can't beat em, join em
I've never seen waves like that before and I've been watching surfing obsessively for over 30 years. Those are the biggest, most perfect, scariest right handers, I've ever seen. Can someone tell me why the surfer at 3:47 waited so long to bottom turn? That was a MONSTER and it seemed like he had it in the bag, just needed to fade and/or bottom turn way earlier, but instead he waits super long and then gets mega drilled and misses it.
Not sure how a 4.5 minute video became 70 minutes on my phone but there you go. So relieved to hear everyone made it home safely. Looks like “epic” alone would have sufficed.
carbajals werent living on island back in 98 & early 2000s where da records were set 😉🤙🏽🌊 northy peaks make peahi taller with minimal barrels but awesome spectacle anyways
So, apparently Laird was wrong... it is possible to paddle into waves that size. I've surfed 20'-25' tall waves but this almost didn't even look real. 😮🤙
@@commercialbreak8290 Hawaii's definitely the birth place of surf, but if we are talking size, I'm pretty sure Nazare produces an objectively bigger ridable wave. You can't even paddle into those waves like you can at Peahi. ua-cam.com/video/ZfLSN4mxY0E/v-deo.htmlsi=jxyDbWv3phAqgdA-

True, but I'd much rather watch tow-in at Jaws than paddle-in.

Not really cutting edge when that’s what they used to do before the jet skis came around

Jet skis or not, getting out there in an Eddie swell takes a few levels of crazy. Throw some logic out the window too
Big up the paddlers. Big up Albee for savage commitment
INSANE! Glad the wind played nice and everyone went home...the paddle guys are warriors
Can't believe the paddle part of the session!
One of the greatest days of Pe'Ahi hands down, I don't want to hear about 1969, when no one had a camera.
Brah laird and I were out there in the early 1800s before anyone knew about it and we were surfing easy 150 foot faces man
...but those were the biggest😊
That's dumb.

Almost sicker than the Eddie.
Now that is how you put together a surf video of big waves! Music was perfect and the wave selection was spot on. Those guys are incredible to take those slabs on!
This is one of the sickest surf video I’ve ever seen.
That heavy lip falling on his head at 01:01 looks insane. I can't imagine the feeling and weight of it smacking my body, followed by several cartwheels underwater with a long hold down. Dang.
I think he got pushed right through his board.
The most perfect JAWS caught on camera. Let’s go!
The water is so beautiful, those waves are giants! Gorgeous filming!
This was so great! The spirit of the Eddie and Hawaii was on display for all who were watching. Respect!
Looks like at certain height it's just inner peace, currents understand, and adrenaline combined to accomplish good surf . Thanks for showing up.
Absolutely mind blowing. Those waves look like living creatures. The size and force of the explosion at the impact zone is difficult to comprehend. Huge respect for those out there getting after it.
The Eddie was great but jaws is funnier to watch. Please shown more of the paddling into the waves as that is the most badass part IMHO.
The music goes perfectly with the video. Surf’s up!
That's Epic Stuff. Praise and Kudos to the Courageous Women and Men who Face Huge Peahi under their Own POWER!!❤😊
AMAZING big wave riding from these professional waterman!!! 🌊

Great paddle in session ever. Awesome combination of courage and athletic ability.
incredible surfing ! kudos to all who took part and those who organised it
Looks like a whole new crew
Yeah never heard of these guys
All the regulars except Albee were surfing the Eddie
@@Kfloochi gotta imagine that if you were an elite surfer yeah the Eddie is the greatest honor but wouldn’t they rather just surf jaws

ALBEE was and is the man! Stunning achievement in one of the biggest swells recorded. Paddle bros are the elite watermen for sure. Wow!
Good to Epic, are you kidding this was all-time!

Yeah that’s the biggest I’ve seen it
He was getting his balance from all the speed I believe. He was cookin' on that thing GNARLY
Absolutely amazing here I am nervous dropping in on a double over head Florida wind chop man I'm sending it on everything I see now 😂
These waves are incredible and to understand them you must see them firsthand. Standing on the lookout there are no words to desribe it.
Biggest Jaws I've ever seen hands down.
That’s what I thought too
OMG - So far beyond what we imagined was possible in the day. Respect to the paddlers!

These are some huge paddle ins!! Wow! What a freak of nature Peahi is!
Jaws is the only spot I like to watch big wave surfing because it’s so big yet still maneuverable.
This is just the sickest thing I’ve seen in quite awhile
Holy smokes!! I’m speechless.
The best we have on planet earth🌊 great edit!
Now this is quality!!! Nice
Now we know why they couldn't find Kai at the Eddie awards - was probably on a plane.
he already missed it. poor sport
And this is why you don't see Albee at the Eddie.
@@lilwavedave lil what? dave
That wipeout at 3:05 looked horrible. Looked heavier than Waimea. Great filming
Absolutely mental! Paddling into these monsters is other worldly!
Wow Albee Layer’s a charger. I might be a new fan.
The editing is great but it is a giant surf lesson to see the drop in's and the ride endings.
If you want to see more footage of this day, I put all the raw clips on my channel! Sick video and edit! Love the drone footage!
Don’t forget to name Chris Davis! He’s in this clip. Lil bro is killin it out there!
whats with the dropin at 2:56? Anyone knows what's the rule regarding two guys on a wave in these conditions?
Yeah that went terribly wrong. I very much doubt they would drop in on purpose in waves like that. Could be easily killed
0:36 you know what else is massive?
That was insane!!!! Perfect mountains
This could very well be the most powerful, fastest moving Pe'ahi ever. Mad respect to the paddlers.
The eddie wqs a joke. this is surfing. raw passion, no egos.
In one word: EPIC
Those drops! Wow and wow again.
Those boys were definitely going for it 🍻
No wonder kai Lenny wasn't on the awards stage...must've been on a plane booking it back to Maui!!!!!!
This swell is so different to usual big days. Real wide and menacing. Mavericks too. Huge. Maybe biggest ever recorded
3:07 well dude, at least it's on video, that was a pretty spectacular wipeout.
Devolition is an awesome choice for background.
Much better than boring contest in Waimea
Hmmmmmad!! So impressive 🔥
Jaw dropping waves! How big? 50-60’? Waimea looks small compared, except for a couple of sets?
I get that the Eddie is historic & very prestigious & respect to anyone surfing 50 ft Waimea, but this is next level... Incredible.
I don’t think I’ve seen such epic jaws in my life. Insanely hollow at 30ft++ 😮
More like 50ft plus
looks like great fun!
New names with massive balls.
Last wave was sick.
That was a great soundtrack. Intense
High performance to da MAX!!
Ty Simpson -Kane, mad respect.
were those last couple waves not bigger than mavericks?
Can’t imagine how exhilarating this has to be.
This made the Eddie look like a beach break
Jaws is like Waimea and Pipe coming together, size and shape
Wheres the rest of 3:50
You don’t want to see the rest…
Just the fact that so many surfers can just ride these waves now. Wow.
Good swell.
Why was the Hawaiian flag flown upside-down at 412?🌊🏄♂️
Amazing swells.
While all the pro‘s chose prestige (Eddie), these guys experienced a once-in-a-lifetime-swell at Jaws.
Hold the Eddie here, you.csn actually surf these waves and they're way bigger. Eddie would definitely go.😢
2:55 homie is on a mission to destroy the bro haha
Looks like a small crew got it when it became too big to paddle. Unreal
Universal friendship from Bordeaux. France.
I hope to someday see these big waves, from the beach or boat...but I ain't gettin' outta' da boat!!😮

Not the only thing Laird is wrong about. Egomaniac.
beyond epic
At 1:34 the guy stalls for a moment at the top of the wave. Whoaaaaa.
kai lenny punching air right now
The boys/MEN are paddling in at this size? I don’t like to use the word record but that’s amazing to me.
looked bigger than the Eddie!
Where is the yellow chopper?
Rick and TJ chillin with Willie in Hana.
Under maintenance.
They have to replace the benji of the rotor.
Jaws makes Waimea look like Doheny.
What happened to Brucie???
Heard a shoulder injury
I got lockjaw watching that
The next gen cutting their teeth. Sick.
Jacob Turner. . . what does the future hold for this young charger?!
If you pause the video at 03:18, you can see the GIGANTIC size of these waves...
3-4 foot Hawaiian it looks like 🤙
