So getting to the point of the message I pulled the valve covers off and I noticed I still have stock springs and rockers why back then I didn't do them I cannot remember. But I would like to add that to make this correct. So again any input would be greatly appreciated. And not for nothing I always spread the information about raylar around here where I live because there's a lot of guys with 8.1 trucks and don't know what direction to go in
@Micah Coy I wanted to check an 8.1 bp202 and roller lifters 50,000 miles later. What is a good way to do that being that there is red loctite on the fasteners. TY.
If they're not making noise, they're good to go. But if you want to check all the parts and pieces, you'll be taking it all apart and then repeating the steps in the valve train video, front to back.
Hi my name is Ron Kirkham, I left a voicemail. I have one of your 203 camshafts in an 05 Sierra. I just pulled my valve covers off to clean them as I'm trying to bring the truck back to life as it has sat for the last six to seven years. I could really use to speak to somebody I have a bunch of questions
Please please answer me someone. I'm not a mechanic. I have a 05 Suburban with the 8.1. My lifter is collapsed. Do I have to remove the heads to do the lifters???
Yes, the crank rotation / tightening procedure is the same on the stock stamped units - though you will not be able to run roller rockers without the aluminum AFN nuts we're using in the video. You can use poly locks, but you may have to swap studs and buy taller valve covers from Dart (Dart 68000220).
A very informative video, I learned a lot from it. You have a great attention to detail, great to watch and learn from.
InstaBlaster.
Hello great video one question though why are the nuts aluminum and not steel ?

So after you set them by feel. Why do you then torque them?
Why not just torque them? Since thats where the preload will be at the end anyways
Is this done with no oil in the lifters ?

@@MicahCoy They are a little rattley for about 3 seconds on the first start of the day. otherwise quiet.

Where can i get it?

Remove the intake manifold and pull out the damaged lifter.
@@MicahCoy thank you. That's exactly how it was.
Do you adjust the valves the same way on a stock engine 8.1 l

So as long as they are all between 1 to 2 turns that is acceptable?
they should all just about match, usually within .25-.5 turn of each other.
Do you use blue or red lock tight?
red
So if you have 2 to 2.5 turns add a .050 shim below rocker studs?
Should work just fine. I've seen people run other brands of BBC rockers with shims without issue. Is this on the iron heads or aluminum units?
Micah Coy
Iron heads, the ones i got from you
sb0mbsilverado
Also what was the torque on em I didnt hear him say it in video?
sb0mbsilverado
120in-lbs or 10ft-lbs.
Don't mess with hydraulic lifters.
