Ok guys, I have an iron block, aluminum heads, sbc 381, with roller rockers, and a solid roller Comp cams cam. I don't know what cam it is, and forgot my correct lash settings hot or cold. Runs great, made 511hp on the dyno. What should I set the lash to?

I've always set Hydraulic rollers to 1/4 to 1turn after zero lash, Solids to cam specs, but with newer variable rate lifters, they tell you to use a gauge, ( about .020" ) and bottom the plunger out till the valve starts to open, than back it off until the valve sets, and the gauge is just snug. Kinda trying to wrap my head around this, as it seems to me, your setting pre-load to way down in the lifter???
Great vid, just wish SOMEONE would do variable rate lifters vids....Thanks!

I have a question. I'm looking for some insight. I just did head gaskets on my 1997 K1500. Should be the same basic thing as the one you do in this video. I put my heads back on. Now I'm working on setting my valve lash. I tightened the rocker arm just enough till the push rods made contact and wasn't all loose. Then I turned the crank. I know you need to turn it 90 degrees. As I was turning it I felt and heard grinding. I kept turning and it got past it. But the next time I turned it, it was tighter.
So I loosened up all of my rockers. They are completely loose. Now i can turn it over and there is no grinding.
It really seems like the push rods must have been pushing the lifter down on the cam too hard. But you have to take the valve lash out right?
Is there supposed to be a better way to do this if the lifters aren't dry?
You're not the first person I've heard say people get intimidated by this.
Has this ever been an issue before?
    Advice?
Thank you for your thoughts and wisdom.

Talk too darn fast and also go back and forth talking about exhaust and intake valves. Confusing as fuk.
