Hey Ed, does anyone have flow figures on the tiny port 8.8L intake manifold? I know the porting crowd is saying that the heads can be hogged out, but what about flow through the intake / runner length on the 8.8L intake.. I want to say it was 22 inches or something even longer / lower RPM than the 8.1L stock unit.
Now granted I am using a measuring tape but 16 to 17 inches long. No idea on flow. You could contact the designers of the intake and probably get flow analysis with their 3d model of it they used to have it on their webpage. www.performancedesign.com/
Any luck with a carbureted intake yet ??? That would solve a ton of expensive problems for me and I would commit to buying two of them from you. I cant even use my Dart intake with 8.1 heads on my 8.8 shortblock due to the extra deck stiffening rails cast into the newer 8.8 PSI 00895R blocks. The Dart intake valley area drops into the lifter valley area and interferes with those deck rails... so Im stuck using the 8.8 heads and EFI intake. I'd MUCH rather use a carb and distributor.
@@fuelslut I dropped off my Dart intake with a machine shop last week. Im having the lifter valley sump area chopped out and raised to clear the 00895R PSI block. Any intake you produce, needs to address this same issue or it will only be good on the 8.1 blocks or the older PSI blocks. All the newer PSI stuff uses the 00895R block which has these upper LS-style valley pan rails. Looks like even the new Raylar FI intake has the interference issue and will only work on older PSI blocks and 8.1 blocks.
I’m working on an engine build myself I’m looking at building a carburetor intake for it any recommendations would be great my intake bolt holes are in the center of the intake ports not having any luck finding one that will work
I plan on designing and 3d printing one here soon for the 8.8 psi head configuration. I may also do an 8.1 version and see if speedmaster will cast them
Nice video showing the differences! Have been looking into getting a PSI 8.8L for some time now. Obviously the Raylar heads are hella money! But also they are supposedly codesigned with a major reputable engine builder if I’m not mistaken?!
The Raylar heads were designed by cylinder head guru Darin Morgan. He was employed for years by Reher-Morrison, he designed the Profiler cylinder heads as well The Raylar stuff is however, very overpriced.
@@AlanRoehrich9651 They appear to use a bunch of junk inferior valvetrain hardware too. Not what you would expect from a nearly $5k set of cylinder heads. They should be sold as bare castings so buyers can actually put quality hardware in them.
@@reloadingfun yeah the 8.0 gm sells as well it is a tall deck engine with the 58x gm kit attached I think some ups trucks use them. occasionally i see them for sale as cores on marketplace
Those are some decent looking chambers on the 8.8….
Have you figured out hesd gaskets yet ? Wondering if the felpro 8.1 gasket has enough bore to work on 8.8

Next week I am going to focus more on it I did print my test pieces to check for fitment

honestly, the only thing good about the raylars is being lighter. It would be nice if they added material in crucial parts to the heads

What about the fact all the valves are in different locations. That's a huge difference.
Confused? besides not being canted any more still in the same big block location
Wow classy title. That will help with sales
Those look like gen 6 coolant passages on the 8.8.
I wouldnt doubt it.
@@fuelslut psi has an 8.0 liter based on a gen 6. It make me wonder how close the 8.8 is to the gen 6. Have you had the two side by side at all?
