INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup shea butter
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil
5 drops lavender
5 drops sandalwood
5 drops yarrow pom
INSTRUCTIONS
Place shea butter, jojoba oil, and coconut oil in a glass bowl.
Set the glass bowl over a pot of boiling water to create a double boiler. Melt all ingredients together.
Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
Add in essential oils.
Store in an airtight container.

I made some melt and pour soap bars and I have noticed that at the beginning there was just a little bit of foam coming when you were washing your hands. As I kept using it, after a point the amount of foam increased a lot and I was wondering what caused that. Is there any way to make your soap more lather?

Do you use refined or unrefined shea butter?
I just bought some pure triple whipped sea butter. It is a cream so I want to use it to make a lotion for my face. Where do get the Yarrow Pom EO?
Will the fractionated coconut oil clog pores like regular coconut oil?
I do not find it to clog my pores or cause breakouts. In fact, I find it to do the opposite. My skin is very soft and clear. I use fractionated coconut oil as a makeup remover every night before bed, and it works great. It is gentle enough to apply close to the eyes to remove eyeliner and mascara.

For some people, it works well, but for many people, it does clog pores. I personally avoid coconut oil like the plague because it gives me horrible breakouts. I would definitely test patch somewhere on your face before putting it all over the place.
You are correct! I was always taught to avoid coconut oil on the face & scalp as it will clog pores and slow down hair growth & cause breakouts. Grapeseed/Rosehip/Safflower oil will not clog pores.

I made this moisturizer and live in a warm climate. Mine has turned a brownish color??? It has been very warm and has caused this to melt, I added some cornstarch to help thicken it which helped, but now is has a brown layer toward the bottom. Is it still okay to use or should I toss it? Thank you for your help.
Hmm I am not sure why it would get a brownish color. Mine always stays white. Did you use cocoa butter? If it smells ok I would personally use it.

Why do you not reccommend olive oil and also, what essential oil would you add for more mature skin? I'm 54 and I don't have wrinkles or skin problems (except maybe a few age spots).
Rose and frankincense are great for that!

Hi! Love your recipes. I just made this one - used the Shea butter and jojoba oil linked...and 12 hours later, it’s still liquid. I can’t figure out what I did wrong.

Once it cools it will become solid. You can use a hand mixer to get it fluffy.

Yes! It whips nicely. You can do it assign as it is slightly hardened.

How come you don't use a preservative?

Remember!! Shea butter is natural latex. I am very allergic to latex!

Lavender is a very gentle essential oil. I have never had any issues with it!

It works great for my skin!
There is something called the comedogenic scale. (It measures the likelihood of something clogging your pores.) It's a zero on the scale so not likely to clog pores. But i would still only use a tiny bit at a time.

Yes, those light carrier oils are basically interchangeable :)
Is coconut oil also a good carrying oil for acne or should I stick with avocado and jojoba?
Definitely don’t use coconut oil on acne prone or oily skin. It’s comedogenic, meaning it’ll clog your pores. Stick with avocado or jojoba. I like jojoba and sweet almond oil.
Can I use regular cocunot oil
Fractionated coconut oil is much different than regular coconut oil, so it will change the consistency.

Ghee is cooked butter. Shea is extremely beneficial for your skin.

Not at all! You can definitely whip it!

Yes it stays soft enough to apply to face. And yes hemp oil can be used on the face.

You can whip it using a hand mixer.
If you cool it down quickly, it doesn't crystallize as much! You can do that by putting the bowl of melted oil into a bowl with ice water and stir, stir, stir until it's completely cool :)

Mine doesn't melt and I leave it out at room temp all year long. I don't thing the shea butter would change it too much. Did you follow everything else?

It is a thicker oil and has a strong scent. It can be used, just not my personal favorite!

I made this moisturizer but mine didn't seem to come out right. It has the consistency of jelly and seems very oily. I'm not sure what I did wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I live in a hot climate so maybe that is the problem.
Yes try putting it in the refrigerator to see if it will set up and then you can whip it with a hand mixer. Adding a little arrowroot powder can help if you think it is too oily.
